Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

[personal profile] halfremembered 2012-03-08 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Eucliwood Hellscythe has been called by many names over the years. The Necromancer of Hell and the Core of Magic, she is well-known as one of the most powerful creatures both in Hell and the human world. People worship her power and seek to obtain even a little shred of it, convinced that a powerful creature like she is would be a powerful weapon for any cause.

What most of them don't know is that Eu, as she is called by people who actually know her, is just a lonely girl who wants to live a simple, happy life with her patchwork family and friends.

As a person, Eu is incredibly quiet and seemingly emotionless... not so much because she wants to be, but because of necessity. Being a creature so powerful that her magic leaks even when she speaks or feels, Eu is forced to live a life of perfect self-control. Her words and opinions are usually relayed with short sentences in a notepad she always carries by her side, while her actions are always simple and cautious. In rare times when she does go out to have fun, she is never seen in front of the group. She prefers staying in the back and going along with everyone else, only to make herself known when there is something she actually wants. On an average day, she can normally be found reading, sleeping or drinking tea. Powerful emotions and loud words aren't something to be expected from Eu, who is content enough by a chance to simply smile.

This isn't to say that Eu is a complete wallflower. Being powerful enough to destroy the world comes with a lot of responsibilities, readiness to act among them. When someone truly dangerous shows up, Eu is always ready to step out onto the front line and do everything she can do to stop them. It very rarely works out the way she wants it to - being someone as kind and compassionate as she is powerful, Eu is easily upset by the thought of hurting people and can be outright heartbroken by the idea of killing anyone. It's only her determination to protect the world around her and the people important to her that force her into action even when she doesn't want to.

There was a time when she wasn't as convinced in her actions. Having spent most of her life alone and only seen as a source of power, Eucliwood has belived for the longest time that her only purpose is to minimize the damage caused by her magic. For that reason, she was prepared to remain passive and keep people at a distance if it meant to keep them safe. It was a lonely and pitiful existence, but she was convinced that it was better that way. As long as she kept hurting people just by being there, there was no other choice. It was only when Ayumu and his friends appeared in her life, that she discovered the simple feelings of happiness and comfort. It was also his refusal to let her go that made her realize that sometimes, it's alright to be selfish and do things that make her happy. She's still far from sure if this new mindset can work out. Sooner or later, her presence is bound to bring more misfortune to those she considers precious. However, for the first time in her life, she is prepared to face the problems brought upon by her existence. It won't be easy, but it's a challenge she's ready to take on for the sake of protecting the simple, happy life she has finally found.

Shirley Fennes | Tales of Legendia | not reserved | 1

[personal profile] ladymerines 2012-03-08 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

You would think, when you know her history, that Shirley would be a frail girl, a fragile, tragic figure – someone on the verge of collapsing under everything she has been forced to endure. That someone who is kidnapped and abused as much as she is, she would be a pushover and a coward, but that would be a mistake.

Foretold since her early childhood that she would become the Merines – someone revered among her people, as a savior or a queen – Shirley suffered enormously because of it. Her hometown destroyed, sister killed – herself kidnapped and tortured – and she still keeps a happy, hopeful attitude. Despite every ounce of vicious cruelty she’s experienced at the hands of the Orerines, she does not blame the race for the actions of an individual.

There’s still light in the world.

There’s no denying that Shirley is, in many ways, a very normal teenage girl. She has deep issues with her self-esteem and confidence, and becomes overwhelmed at what, to others, might be a very minor gesture. Considering herself a “failed” Merines, she cannot fathom why people see such a great value in her, when, in her eyes, she’s a failure. When the strangers and Ferines lavish her with attention and praise, she shuts down, withdrawing inward, unable to comprehend why or deal with the attention.

Sheltered her whole life in a hidden village and by her family, Shirley is ignorant of the way the world works and the amount of people who know her closely can be counted on one hand. After Stella’s death, Senel was her whole world, the only person she could trust and rely on without a second thought. Thus, when Fenimore tells her that they’re friends, Shirley is speechless. Between her own deep lack of self-esteem and her lack of ever before having someone grow to value her first and foremost, she does not know how to deal with this. Fenimore, almost instantaneously, becomes as vital as an organ in Shirley’s life.

For much of the first part of the game, Shirley is held prisoner, forcing Senel and the party to try and rescue her again and again. And she feels guilty. Here, someone she cares about so much, so passionately, has to continually put his life on the line to protect her, when Shirley can’t do the same for him. If only she could be stronger, if only she was like her sister, if only she was a real Merines….these are the kinds of thoughts that plague her heart.

So when the opportunity does come, such as when Senel is swept into the canal at the Ruins of Frozen Light, Shirley dives in without a second thought. This is the perfect demonstration of her deep desire to protect and care for others the way they’ve always done for her. The people closest to her mean more than the world to her. She begs with Vaclav to hurt her instead, use her, if it would mean that her sister Stella and friend Fenimore would be left alone – and she continues to beg even after it’s clear that Vaclav won’t listen to her. And she continues to proclaim her unwavering faith that Senel will come to her rescue.

Once Shirley has made up her mind, there’s no changing it. When she’s made the choice to undergo the Rite of Ascension, despite the risks, she throws herself into it. But it also shows that she does not make decisions too rashly, when the opportunity for planning is allowed. It’s clear that she has spent hours, if not days, trying to find the words to plan her confession to Senel. In the end, she swallows, soldiers up, and prepares to make one of the deepest emotional plunges someone of her age can make.

And she’s rejected.

With her longest – and for many years, only – friend and companion, a man she had fallen in love with, emotionally slapping her in the face, with everyone else around her putting her on a pedestal she cannot possibly stand tall on, with only two weeks having passed since her sister died in front of her eyes and she was held captured, tortured, and used as ammunition, nobody would blame Shirley for collapsing, crying, and running away.

But Shirley doesn’t. She’s teetering on the very edge, but she’s still, somehow, holding on – though the next break could be the end.

Amber ~ Darker than BLACK ~ App Interested ~ Part 2

[personal profile] aleeeeeeex 2012-03-08 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
History: http://darkerthanblack.wikia.com/wiki/Amber

Personality: Well, first things first: As a Contractor, Amber technically lacks emotions. Fear, anger, joy--she’s technically unable to feel these things. That’s what makes Contractors such ideal killers, after all. But as Amber says herself, such things are changing and Contractors are slowly regaining a sense of humanity. As she’s the very first Contractor, and such changes occur only slowly over time, she has been able to witness this evolution herself.

So she does laugh, become upset and angry, although these emotions are maybe a liiittle subtler than the average human being. But if someone didn’t know better, they probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between her and the average person – from afar anyway. She’s not shy of saying and announcing she’s a Contractor though, and enjoys educating others about them.

Overall, she’s very practical and to the point. Her goals and beliefs are what drive her and if a person isn’t part of these goals then she doesn’t really care much for them. She’s manipulative in that sense. If someone is important to the outcome she’s striving for, then she will cherish them, look after them, and defend them. Mind you, however, she likely already knows when their time will come--whether it be when they are meant to die; when they are no longer useful to her plans; or even if they become harmful to her plans--and she will likely let it come to pass and not interfere (unless it is the case where said person may become harmful to her plans), unless it is more worthwhile were they to live past that time. Despite being able to manipulate time, she’s not about to let someone waste her time.

But it’s not like these goals of hers are all for selfish means. In fact, they’re for the overall good of the world. She strives for peace between Contractors and humans, as well as the awareness of Contractors. She’s against killing or violence, but knows when it is necessary. Never once has she been seen personally taking a life. Her henchmen do a fine job of killing here and there, but on a larger scale she prefers to avoid it. Even when they are performing terrorist acts on organizations and government buildings, the acts are performed while the buildings are mostly vacant. This sounds violent, right? Well, like I said, it was necessary. She’s just trying to stop other organizations from destroying the planet or massacring Contractors. Saving you from your own ignorance, if you will.

But sometimes, saving you from your own ignorance means keeping you ignorant as well. She’s not always one to explain her plans--she’d really rather keep it to herself, unless it’s necessary that someone be told of oncoming events. Sometimes, this can seem a little suspicious, and it may even seem like she’s talking in riddles, but just know it’s all relevant and all for the best--in the end. For the most part, if she thinks a person has the ability to do so, she will want them to be able to figure things out and piece the facts together on their own. She’ll maybe guide them and point them in the right direction, but usually she’ll avoid outright telling them unless it’s absolutely necessary or dire she do so.

She’s not all serious, not by any stretch. She loves to tease people and test them. This usually means doing something that may upset them, intentionally or sometimes unintentionally. She enjoys watching others. What people do and why they do it fascinate her--how they feel about others, what they’ll do for the sake of others, and so on. This may be because her being a Contractor has isolated her from the common population, or she may have always had this fascination of others. Either way, she finds nearly everyone intriguing in some way.

Hei, in particular, is the most fascinating of all.

Hei’s role in events is continuously large. He is of great interest. His love and devotion for his sister, his self-conflict and attitude toward contractors--he hates them, he hates killing, but he believes he is one and he will kill others for the overall sake of finding his sister. This is a ver-ending point of interest to Amber. It’s a little up in the air, as it’s never confirmed explicitly, but Hei is somewhat a potential love interest for Amber as well. She cares for him, that’s clear enough. Her interest in him goes beyond just the fascination of watching. But in a way, she’s also willing to give him up for a greater good. This is also partially because she knows it’s what she has to do, and what he has to do.

Being all future-knowing can be such a burden sometimes.

[personal profile] greenjacketed 2012-03-08 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Rank-jumper -- Sharpe's most defining moment in both his life and his military career is when he is bestowed with a battlefield commission. The profound effects on this moment carve out the man he must become in order to continue to survive. During Sharpe's time period, the vast majority of commissions are bought by the moneyed elite. Being exceptionally low-born, Sharpe has a very difficult time finding acceptance with his new military equals. Other officers look down on him for his past and -- for the most part -- he has had a military career marked by serving under young aristocrats who have bought higher ranks at younger ages. He frequently must work with officers who have had only a fraction of his military experience. These hassles have left him with a deep-seated dislike for administration and bureaucrats. In canon, requisite visits to Horseguards in London -- to speak amongst the military's pencil-pushers -- are some of his most hated assignments. His position as a man raised from the ranks also complicates how the enlisted men perceive him. Initially, he struggles to gain respect from men who are not accustomed to taking orders from their own kind. In the end, Sharpe has more success breaking through to the enlisted men than the officers; for example, although he commands his Chosen Men with a firm hand, he opts to drink with them during downtime and tends to more often treat them as comrades than as subordinates. As a previous victim of an unnecessarily cruel flogging sentence, he tends to search for more humane and effective methods of disciplining his men for he argues that flogging a solider teaches him only one thing -- how to turn his back. He cites only three rules for those under his command: Don't get drunk without permission; don't steal unless it's from the enemy or you are starving; when it is time to fight, fight like bastards. He speaks to them as equals when they gather around the campfire -- a behaviour that is encouraged by the fact that his small group of riflemen are often treated by the Duke of Wellington as a pseudo-special-forces; he frequently sends them on unusual missions that have them bivouaking and foraging for their own meals well away from the greater machinations of the army. This has lead to certain familiarity with working alone and/or in a small, tight-knit force. Despite all of these tensions, Sharpe continues to rise through the ranks on the simple virtue that he is an excellent soldier who knows when (and more importantly, when not to) obey.

Romantic and sentimental -- Sharpe's second in command (and closest friend), Patrick Harper, suggests at one point that Sharpe would fall in love with anything wearing a petticoat. The man appreciates women. Especially strong, capable women. His first wife, Teresa, was the leader of a Spanish guerrilla group. Although he has not wholly recovered from losing her, he is quick to seek out female companionship. However, he is not a womanizer. More often than not, he is the one who ends up with a broken heart -- he is quick to trust a woman in distress and it has lead to his downfall on more than one occasion. Although he is every inch an army man in his youth and middle age, Sharpe's sentiments turn elsewhere when he imagines his future. His dream is to own a quiet little farm once the war with Napoleon is over. Generally, he enters relationships (both romantic and friendly) with a very open heart and a lion's share of loyalty, even if he tends to have a difficult time feeling his way trough those relationships -- I will expand upon this difficulty in a later section.

Rake and a wastrel -- Sharpe doesn't smile often. It isn't that he isn't often happy -- his pleasures can be very simple and often are; however, he has lived a complicated life and has learned not to trust in too many good things. It is important to note that while Sharpe is considered to be a good man, he isn't necessarily a moral one. At least -- not by modern standards and certainly not by Luceti's standards. Sharpe only ever joined the army in the first place to dodge a murder charge. Before that, he had been raised as a pickpocket: first in the gutters of London and then later in Yorkshire. His life has asked a lot of him -- theft, violence, murder, and quick-thinking. It hasn't required him to be well-read or even literate. Sharpe remains somewhat self-conscious over the fact that he only learned how to read in his twenties and still struggles with literacy well into his thirties despite having also grown proficient in spoken Spanish due to his time spent in the country during the Peninsular War. His edges are rough and his manners are sparse, but they are genuine. Sharpe is nearly incapable of polite affectation and would sooner stand silent than pretend to be courteous. As such, his chivalry tends to be unannounced and more natural than orchestrated.

Rifleman -- Sharpe eventually joined the Peninsular campaign as a captain and was placed with the 95th Rifles. He takes great pride in his association with the greenjacketed rifles, claiming that he wants to be buried in his uniform come his death. He and his men feel a sense of superiority over the musket-toting infantry regiments and take great pride in the advantage their rifles give them over French columns. Because of their usefulness to the army, Sharpe and his men's positions as loose cannons receives a lukewarm reception at best. While their efficacy saves them from being utterly tossed on their behinds, their wayward tactics rarely go without some form of discipline. Sharpe has had to fight tooth and nail to keep his position on many an occasion, despite his numerous accolades -- some of which, such as the capture of the French eagle at Talavera, are household tales. Even still, Sharpe makes for a brilliant rifleman as he possesses near unnaturally impressive marksmanship and later develops a preference for carrying a heavy cavalry sword. Although this is an unusual choice for an infantryman, Sharpe's strength and height account for his ability to wield it while not on horseback. Generally, Sharpe is not the sort of man you would want as an enemy. He has little respect for the rules of war except where they can serve him. For example, when captured he refuses to answer questions, saying only: "I am an officer in His Britannic Majesty's Army, and I demand the treatment proper to my rank." Alternatively, he breaks the rules of war in order to mete out what he sees as fitting punishment, as he executes two French prisoners (officers who were caught raping a Spanish woman) in Sharpe's Battle instead of taking them into custody. Also, he rarely fights fair. He will fight as though he is still in the gutters and execute clever plans to boot -- including switching uniforms and unfair ambushes on enemy companies. Sharpe is also particularly partial to kneeing his opponents in the groin. In spite of all this, he is a good leader. He inspires his mean and tells them what they need to know in order to survive. He is often seen providing them with simple, stalwart mantras; he tells them that the secret to being a successful soldier comes from two things. First, they must be able to fire three rounds a minute and, second, they must be able to stand. These words of wisdom ring true with Sharpe's personal take on how to wage war. He strives to be the better solider and to stand without breaking for as long as possible. He has gotten to where he is with this brand of determination.

All of the above does not preclude kindness in the man; however, a brutal war has given him a few emotional callouses but they are not of the insurmountable variety. Beyond the soldier is an individual who does want peace for both himself and his country. He has watched too many young men die in bloody awful wars to want anything else.

Re: Soren | Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn | Reserved 2/4

[personal profile] dragonsheir 2012-03-08 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Being the strategist and staff officer of a mercenary company, Soren holds a lot of responsibility for one so young. However, he is a very smart man and uses his mind to the best of its ability. Using cold logic, he creates fantastic strategies for both the mercenary camp and the few armies they have been in, all of them coming out victoriously. He keeps the best interest of the company in mind, the job with the better opportunities and coin are more important than helping people or risking themselves. Even with this mindset, when given a command, he will follow it regardless of what he thinks, and makes strategies to Ike's wishes.

He is not afraid to speak his mind, even when it comes to the noble class and royalty. Though a lot of people frown upon his tongue, Ike finds that it's a great thing, saying that he can trust Soren about what he thinks of the situation without holding people on ceremony. His bluntness has caused him trouble as well as help Ike and the Greil mercenaries, reminding them that they were fighting a war and that anything and everything must be found out.

In the first game, Soren clearly hates the laguz, Ike having to calm him down after he insults and attacks an emissary of the Beast King. It mostly has to do with how he was raised, growing up in Gallia where the beast laguz come from and being shunned by them because of his brand. Soren tells Ike that it was more hurtful than all the abuse he had had from other beorcs, like an iceberg weighing inside of him. He doesn't get too close to beorc/humans either because of this. When he does talk to people, it is normally about strategy and supplies and is very rarely personal. Three years later, however, Soren has improved, and is no longer 'lost in his own little world' as Ranulf had put it. He even manages to speak with the laguz with more regard than he had previously. However, he is still his rude, blunt self. Surprisingly, he becomes one of the highest officers in the army due to Skirmir liking him for his intelligence and strategic abilities.

Soren shows great loyalty to Ike, calling him his one true friend. Having been the first person to treat him with kindness and to save him from starvation, Soren dedicated himself to finding the boy after he had left; even if he didn't remember who he was. When they finally found each other, Soren made sure to help Ike in anyway possible. Be it with explaining something, coming up with a strategy, or helping him hide from a wild Aimee, Soren would do almost anything for him. Even when met with Stefan, a fellow branded who tried to persuade him to join a colony, Soren refused to leave Ike. Even if his aging was already slowing down, he could not leave his best friend.

Although he is rather cold and rude, he somehow manages to also have some sort of humor. When discussing lowering prices 'for the good of the company' with Aimee, he tried to swoon her by calling her a true gem and someone more beautiful than the goddess herself. Another time with the same girl, he joked to Ike that she had called him Ikey-poo, teasing him a bit. Perhaps because of his upbringing, Soren dislikes food, this becoming apparent when Titania wonders if he would stop if he didn't have to eat. He seems to have an odd quirk that allows him to know exactly where he is no matter how often or how little he has been there. This could be due to his dragon blood

Maron Kusakabe / Part 2

[personal profile] rhaplanca 2012-03-08 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Character

Name: Maron Kusakabe
Fandom: Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Time Period: During Chapter 5, right before her competition.
Wing Color: Light Pink
History: Hopefully this is enough; if not, there's this tl;dr of summaries up through Chapter 18.
Personality: Maron is, by all appearances, very energetic, outgoing, and always with a smile on her face. While this is certainly true, underneath the smiles and the upbeat attitude, she has a lot of emotional problems that the smiles cover up. These emotional problems are due to the way her parents were over the years to her, including leaving her home alone for long periods of time for work. Because of this, she's not quick to really open up to people and tell them her problems. This also puts a damper on her trusting people, which can take some time. She's good at acting like nothing is wrong and suffering in silence, and she'll swear up and down that nothing is wrong with her if pressed about the issue. Even when Maron starts to trust someone, she won't always open up to them; she may start small and avoid the issue, but confirm that something isn't right. The more she trusts someone, the more she'll tell them.

Besides her awkward nature of smiling even when there's something wrong, she's always open to talk to people. It comes with being lonely for her: the more friends she has, the less lonely she's prone to be. By default she hides how lonely she gets so no one will worry: after all, she's the one that wants to solve everyone's problems, it would be bad for her to have others worry! But in actuality, she's very lonely and tries to alleviate this as much as possible.

Aside from all of that, Maron enjoys rhythmic gymnastics. It takes her mind off of a lot of her problems and relaxes her a great deal. She also enjoys to cook and clean due to living alone and fending for herself, so if things get too messy, she'll clean it herself. She has some sort of maternal instinct in that as well, and really likes small children, and children in general. She'll help them in any way she can, no matter what the cost to herself. She's also very girly, liking to dress up. I wouldn't doubt she reads girly comics either.

Maron tries not to let frustration and anger build up too much, but when it finally does spill over, it's not very pretty. She'll let you know by venting, or even just sounding off about her current, angry feelings. This generally happens when that jerk Chiaki is involved.

Because of the ability to transform into Jeanne (which won't be present in Luceti due to Fin not being around), it gives Maron a slight boost of confidence, strength, and the ability to go on. Even without her strength as Jeanne, she does have some degree of determination. Lastly, as said by Fin in the second chapter, "She really hates to lose". Rivalries aren't really her thing, and she'll do anything to come out on top. It's most likely a defense mechanism in order to get acceptance in one way or another. She is still a good person of course, and she usually keeps any rivalries in good sport, unless to comes to demons. Maron is a girl on a mission, which is where her determination comes from as well as her job as Jeanne: to get the wish that Fin had promised her in order to get her family back to a loving family.

History: This: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Dresden_Files_characters#Molly_Carpenter is actually an excellent summary. I don’t need to add a thing.

Personality: (Please consider here things such as habits, likes and dislikes, thought patterns, experiences and so on. This section should be fairly detailed!)

In order to really understand Molly Carpenter, you have to understand where she comes from – who her family is. Her father is a Knight of the Cross, one of three warriors Chosen to fight against evil with a sword forged with one of Those Three Nails in the hilt; he met her mother while rescuing her from a real life dragon. Yeah. After that, the two fell in love and married, and had Molly, the first of a brood of seven children.

Molly has grown up with an understanding of the supernatural all her life. Her father would receive calls from God (and occasionally a wizard) and go out to face unimaginable evil while her mother would hold down the fort in a very literal sense. Charity was a stern, comforting presence who exhibited nothing but faith in front of her children when Michael went out in response to a call from God, but couldn’t hide her derision when her husband went out at the call of that wizard, since those were the missions Michael most often returned from injured and for various other reasons, Charity had a good reason to fear the influence of magic in her children’s lives.

Raised in this environment, never knowing when her Dad was going to come home, watching her mom fashion armor from steel and Kevlar and practice swordsmanship with her dad when he was home, until she hit her teenage years Molly was essentially a Roman Catholic schoolgirl with a mischievous attitude. She was the “boss kid,” in charge of all the others when they weren’t around, and responsible for most of their nicknames (Leech for Alicia, Hobbit for Hope…), but at about fourteen Molly started to rebel against the strict lifestyle and in particular her mother’s authoritarian nature in a huge way.

This rebellious nature and inherent sense of what is ‘fair’ and what isn’t carries through in other aspects of her personality as well. Determined to express and differentiated herself, Molly got numerous piercings and extensive tattoos. Even at an age where she’s stopped wearing most of her piercings, Molly continues to dye her hair radical colors. She is determined to be distinct.

Molly is also a very caring individual. Her first step towards serious magic – and black magic, at that – is primarily motivated from the best of intentions. Her pregnant best friend was a heroine addict and had already lost one baby, and her boyfriend was the father of her best friend’s baby… what she did was based off of independent study, she wanted to ‘fix’ them by magic, and so motivated them to be too afraid to shoot up again. Unfortunately, because she was also feeling angry and betrayed, she inflicted severe psychological on both of them, primarily her boyfriend. Unfortunately, the use of this dark magic also tainted her own mind, having the potential to twist her and turn her

There are several times that Harry states that “Children whose world had been founded in something as solid as Charity’s love for them would be able to do almost anything.” And in Molly’s case, though her fate is yet undecided, he’s absolutely right. She could be a powerful force for good… or a powerful force for evil. She is not someone to set on the sidelines and watch. In fact, when confronted with what she’d done to her boyfriend and best friend, learning that she had broken the 4th Law of magic, and that she would have to go before the White Council to face execution… Molly volunteers to turn herself in. Her mother urges her to put her magic aside, to hide, but Molly refuses, citing the parable of the talents – that she has this power, she has it for a reason, and she wants to use it for good.

Molly is a loving older sister, a good friend, and a horror movie aficionado. Her mental landscape is literally painted with Star Trek extras, and she’s been known to her mentor “Miyagi,” in part due to Harry’s own influence.

It took her some time to understand that magic wasn’t a Band-Aid or a fixer for everything. She continued to be impetuous and disobedient throughout various aspects of her training with Harry, including following him on to crime scenes. At the point from where she’s taken, though, she is a trusted apprentice who has learned the cost of her power, compassionate and strong and determined to do what she can to help.

Fandom: Persona 3 Portable
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Time Period: March 5th 2010, Post-game.
Wing Color: Coral Pink
History: Minako's canon history is here, though her background crosses with Minato's as well.
Due to the nature of the Persona games (where one's choices determine the main character's personality, and, in turn, every detail of their lives down to when they go to sleep and which clubs they choose to join) quite a bit of Minako's personality here is inferred headcanon based on in-game choices given and the "correct" responses provided. If anything is at all unclear regarding Minako's personality, strengths or weaknesses, I'd be more than willing to elaborate. (And this time without the pretentious novelization even.)

In addition: after ~holding court~ with Minato and Ryoji's players (Griffin and Snarky respectively), they've consented to my playing Minako as Minato's sister under the assumption that hers is an alternate universe from his: in this parallel timeline, the Arisatos were survived by their daughter following their fatal car accident, Minato having died in the crash with them. Minako also will have, during the course of her year in Iwatodai, entered into a relationship with the Shinjiro Aragaki and Ryoji Mochizuki of her universe, becoming romantically involved with both at some point.

[2/????] AAAH JOINING THE BETA FAIL TRAIN

[personal profile] pout 2012-03-08 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
what on earth can you do on this earth / but catch at whatever comes near you / with both your fingers / until your fingers are broken?

Minako's life is built on a tragedy she never speaks of and refuses to share, a truth you'd never guess from looking at her. She is Orpheus rising.

Because at first glance she's one of those people. You know. The ones the ones who are smiling and laughing despite the shoddy weather, economic recession, and war going on outside your bedroom door? Vibrant, optimistic, and impossible to ignore. Her first impression is a lightning strike: there's a smile and an introduction, little in the way of shyness and nothing in the way of distance, and before you know it she's lighting up the sky with energy and verve, independent of the storm around her. Like thunder, she is a force to be reckoned with in the strength of her bravery and determination.

You can read it in her face: I am alive. I am here. I am Orpheus singing.

And for a girl who lives so fully in the present, the darkened past and distant future have little place in her interactions with others. All that matters is Now and what Now has to offer, what you can do with it. If someone is struggling, she will never hesitate to reach out. She will begin by holding fast to your hesitation and end with pulling it from you bit by bit, using words of encouragement and bold gestures as incitations to action, inspiration. Minako is an entirely proactive force, dynamic even in the little things she does to help. Listening to people's problems becomes an activity in itself, something she devotes all her time and attention to in involving herself completely in hearing people out. She's good that way. Good with people. Minako knows exactly what to say and how to say it to get people up and on their feet again after a fall. Where anyone else might come across as pushy (and certainly her actions read that way from time to time), her compassion affords her the benefit of the doubt when she does anything forward. On the other side of the coin, naturally, are her tendencies towards recklessness and impulsivity: Minako, though rarely a creature of ultimatums, has moments of absolute brashness. It isn't her cheer alone that mimics a storm: anger her and the earth will shake. Think of mother bears and women scored. Think of the bristling indignation one human being feels on behalf of another. Think of a symphony gone wrong.

for when Orpheus played / his music charmed the beasts / their natures so wild they could not be tamed by the gods / and his song brought to life the flowers and trees / and the stones around him

Minako is charismatic. Minako is likable. Part of her charm is how real she is. Because unlike her brother she holds very little back and allows emotions to move her deeply. Look: there are tears in her eyes, a tremble in her shoulders. Look: fury and the spark it lights in eyes the color of blood and hard candy. There are no second thoughts about crying when sad, cheering with exhilarated, dauntlessly going after whatever it is she wants. In relationships especially she will take the initiative with a cheeky smile and words you couldn't possibly misunderstand for their boldness. Teasing is a trademark. Flirting is guaranteed. Feeling is a full-time occupation.

Ever-so-friendly and just shy of perpetually impish in her sense of humor, that Minako is such an incredibly social person -- one who forms bonds with those of all ages, backgrounds, and natures -- should come as no surprise. More than befriending others for the sake of appearing social or performing tasks and participating in her school's activities out of some sense of obligation, it is for her sake as well as others' that Minako puts one-hundred percent of herself into everything she does. Sewing Club, Cooking Club, eating -- everything is important and nothing is beneath her. It is because of this dedication and an unwillingness to hold back that she makes such an excellent leader. Though her kindness is unfailing, she demonstrates the readiness required to be candid with others regarding their shortcomings, and in helping them find the root of their issues, she uses her honesty as a tool for building up the strength of self and integrity necessary in others. People follow her and take to her advice because it is good advice. She is just as capable of heading expeditions into Tartarus as she is at directing cultural festivals and organizing entertainment on school trips. Minako is the type of leader whose words and actions are evenly matched in how effectively they instill such passionate loyalty in her teammates. She is thoughtful (surely you wouldn't mind if she baked you cookies or fashioned you a cell phone charm of leftover string) and steadfast (though never spiteful, she will however tell you when it is you're doing wrong -- especially if she believes in your ability to correct things) in equal measure.

The girl is Orpheus, shepherding.

And you'd think she'd tire, wouldn't you? Certainly when she pushes herself past her physical limits, Minako may buckle. Often the power of stubbornness alone is what keeps her awake through grueling lectures or level grinding. But other than the occasional lazy snooze or rebound illness (she will sicken quickly after too many nights spent studying through exhaustion) her armor is smooth. There are no chinks to be found, no dents in the flawless metal of her extroverted enthusiasm.

Some people in need can't ask for what they want.

Look: this is a silent cry for help. Look: this is sleeping beauty wide awake. This is your first clue that something is wrong. Because real people -- they stumble, don't they? They are made from their imperfections and shaped by masks worn for the sake of protection, stitched together with doubts and insecurities. But Minako's behavior is almost seamless, everything fitting together so that nothing -- and everything -- seems an act without flaw. And maybe it isn't even an act at all. Minako is the heroine, the protagonist. Look: this is her story. Maybe Minako is perfect.

here, we hear the well / from which only the dead drink / when the god silently beckons them / the dead

But she is perfect because she has to be.

When Eurydice was bitten by a serpent and died, Orpheus journeyed to the underworld to bring her back. When her family was killed in the car accident that bound her to Death, Minako died with them.

And then she came back.

Orpheus descending.

all you / who are spared any doubt / I salute you / the reopened mouths / who already knew silence's name

Because little orphan Minako, she was alone then. Left with the knowledge that she would never see her brother -- the twin whose heart once beat in time with hers, her other half -- again. Left with the knowledge that her parents were gone forever. In the aftermath, a mad shuffle from household to household that saw her taken in by cousins and grandparents and distant uncles and the sort who need a meal ticket more than they need a daughter, the desire to again belong and be looked after grew to irrepressible proportions. She was a burden. Someone's headache. A problem to be dealt with. Look: which of these things is unlike the others? And though there was never any abuse, no outright maltreatment or exploitation, there was always the yawning distance that screamed "you do not belong". Minako's hope for something better was so strong that she opened her heart over and over, leaving herself vulnerable and hoping, praying, that the love she had to give, boundless, would be returned to her as it had once been.

But it wasn't. Instead she realized the true depths of her family's resentment towards her. And again she was alone.

Orpheus looking back. Orpheus abandoned.

But instead of retreating into silence, smothering her loneliness with a near-apathetic acceptance of circumstances like her brother would in his universe, the second Arisato used her uncanny insight into human nature to a different advantage. Look: this is a girl shaping her personality until it is malleable. Minako's desires to be liked and admired and cared about are much more obvious than Minato's; they manifest in her drive to be perfect. While not openly obsessive about control, she possesses something of a compelling need to manage the uncertain variables in her life. She likes knowing what's what, knowing where she stands with people in relationships and planning things as they come up. She's very much a Type A personality despite all evidence to the contrary. Minako throws herself into her school work, her friends, her life -- because without these things to fill up the unoccupied blocks of time, she's got very little, and she feels alone. If Minato uses distance as a means of control, then Minako uses fullness and presence to keep herself from thinking too deeply about the unhappiness she associates with her past.

Her family was accommodating, yes, and never cruel. But perhaps that made things worse: Minako felt like an outsider, and because there was no "real reason" to feel that way, developed guilt over her dissatisfaction and discomfort. When she was old enough to realize she was unwanted among her relatives, the truth of this drove her to adopt an almost obsessive need to prove herself, to be useful, to help others. To be seen as competent and talented and worth keeping. Because beneath everything, she retains an incredible guilt for what happened to Minato -- and then, later, for the mess heralded by her arrival in Iwatodai. Minako feels constantly like she has to play the mother, protecting people. Watching out for them. Smiling for them. Keeping up a charade of perpetual happiness in order to be exactly what people are looking for. In a friend, a girlfriend, a confidant, a student, a leader, and a person.

And because she was treated with this shallow kindness throughout her formative years, never good enough to be welcomed into the fold, never quite fitting in with the families she was passed around between, Minako learned quickly how to tailor her language to suit whomever she was with, switching effortlessly between light ribbing and enthusiastic explanation, mild scolding and easygoing discussion. They aren't false, these personas. Minako truly does feel a deep, immutable compassion towards others. Each "face" she wears is a facet of her personality, a window into her true self. But she knows now the value of pleasing others. And not only does it make her happy to see people free of pain, it ensures her a place in their life, and ensures that she will never be alone.

She is Orpheus, mourning.

my lyre must always play / for without music we are nothing / we knead the shapes out of nothing / tunes out of silence / love out of hate / music that lasts forever

But triumph and tragedy go hand-in-hand. And although her past sits heavy inside her, the weight of it affords her a perspective unique to her situation.

Because she understands pain, she can alchemize others' suffering into joy. Because of the loneliness in her heart, she will never turn from the lost. Because hers is a history of loss, her story, then, is a study in empathy and growth. Even without sharing these truths with anyone, there's just something of the sage about her: Minako is not merely the girl with the smile: she is the girl with the beautiful fault line across her face, death and life made into one. Because of her suffering you will trust her, believe in her, and she, the fool, with love you for that.

In spite of the despair she's seen, Minako finds a song in herself, a refrain: it is the resolve within the doubt, the wisdom in uncertainty, and it carries her -- beyond a sacrificial lamb or a girl selflessly willing to give up everything for humanity's second chance is a girl who sees the rich possibility in everything and everyone despite of the horror of the world, and who finds it in herself, over time, to care regardless. She is not wholly self-sacrificing. She is not, however much she would like to be, perfect. Minako has been hurt, and is no stranger to cynicism or apathy. She simply believes in something better than that, something she found when in 2009 she arrived in Iwatodai and her life changed irrevocably forever. She was reminded that when her mother was dead and her father was dead and her brother was no more, there was hope to be found beside the agony. A hope unwavering, undeterred. The kind of hope that becomes a song if you stick with it long enough, nurture it in yourself, fortify it in others. Minako saw hope beat out despair each and every time -- no matter the pain it took to get there. And the song of it carried her through the journey of the fool until she stood before the world and felt The Universe. The fevered hum in her blood and her heart. Orpheus rising.

take her from this afterlife and don't look back

Minako's life is built on a tragedy she never speaks of and refuses to share, a truth you'd never guess from looking at her. The girl is Orpheus shining: she is a poet and musician in her exuberance, her warmth.
And the girl is Orpheus performing: the lonely child who became the bubbly woman to protect herself.
The girl is Orpheus fighting: in order to protect others she journeyed to the underworld and found "courage".
And she is Orpheus, torn to shreds and still singing down the river: the Messiah, the life of one given for the sake of all. For love. And for hope.

Utena Tenjou - Revolutionary Girl Utena - 2/??? [PROBABLY SO MANY ERRORS]

[personal profile] revolutionarygirl 2012-03-08 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
History: (Written out because all wikis give the bare bones for history:)
One upon a time, many years ago, there was a young princess. She was very sad, for her parents had passed away. Before the princess appeared a handsome prince atop a white horse, casting a regal and kind smile down at the girl. Surrounding her in a rose-scented embrace, the prince gently wiped the tears from the princess' eyes. "Little princess," he said, "you are brave, living strong within your sorrow. Never lose this nobility, even as you mature into a young woman. The ring I gave you is a momento of this day, and should you never lose your noble heart... we will meet again--this ring will lead you to me." The ring he had presented to the princess may have been an engagment ring. Perhaps... but the princess had been so impressed by this prince that she vowed to follow in his footsteps and become a princess herself one day! But was this truly a path she should follow?

You hear this story at the beginning of many of the episodes, but it's far from what really happened.

The earliest event of Utena Tenjou's life that we know of is the death of her parents when she was a young child. Thrown into despair, the little girl entered the church where the coffins containing her parents' bodies were. Finding a third, empty coffin, Utena decided that it was meant for her and climbed into it. When two older boys found her in the coffin, she told them that her plan was waiting for death, as she no longer believed that it was worth living anymore if everyone is only destined to one day die: "there is no such thing as something eternal."

They leave... and Utena was soon found by a third individual, a prince known as Dios. She asked him if he was an angel of death, to which he answered that he wasn't. As he walked away, something prompted Utena to leave the coffin and follow him. She was led to a disturbing sight--a girl who didn't seem to be much older than Utena herself, suspended by swords impaling her. Dios told Utena that the girl before her was a witch, the Rose Bride, damned to suffer forever for taking him from all the women in the world. She had sacrificed herself for the prince she loved so dearly, despite the fact that the prince was no longer what he once was. Suffering was the only thing the Rose Bride had left.

Utena became clearly distressed by this, begging Dios to save the girl before them. When he said that he could not become the girl's prince, and that the only thing that could save her now was a different prince she could believe him, Utena made a bold declaration. She decided that she would become her prince and one day save the Rose Bride. The prince then presented Utena with her rose signet, stating that if Utena could maintain the nobility she possessed now that she may be able to return to where they were and save her... but also that Utena was a girl, destined to grow up and become a lady. That she would likely forget about this night entirely. Utena stubbornly rejected this, stating once again that she would become a prince.

As Dios predicted, Utena did indeed forget about that night. However, she did not forget about her goal. Her desire to become a prince who saves princesses persisted, dressing up in a male uniform and engaging in more masculine activities. She became a rather popular person, admired by the female and male students alike. Despite this, she seemed to only have a couple or so close friends--one of those friends being the bubbly and energetic Wakaba Shinohara.

One day, while walking the halls of Ohtori Academy, Utena and Wakaba come across a bunch of male students reading a love letter tacked up on the wall. Finding the behavior disgusting, Utena walked forward and tore the letter off the wall, even going so far as to tell off the boys for reading it. However, once she looked back to Wakaba, she found her friend in tears. When she ran away, Utena followed her only to confirm her fear--Wakaba had written that letter.

Angry on Wakaba's behalf, Utena confronted the boy who was the subject of the letter--Kyoichi Saionji, vice president of Ohtori Academy's Student Council and one of the boys who had found her the night her life changed (though neither of them recognized each other.) After hearing Saionji's cruel remarks regarding Wakaba, Utena was quick to challenge him to a duel. After noticing Utena's rose signet, he accepted, calling her the 'new challenger.' They were to duel in the forest behind the school. When Utena arrived there, she found an arena suspended in the air, and after climbing the steps to it, things only took more of a turn toward the strange: a classmate of hers was present, a quiet girl named Anthy Himemiya. She explained the rules of this duel to Utena and she placed roses in their breast pockets: the one who has their rose knocked off loses. Saionji slapped Anthy in punishment for wishing Utena good luck, causing Utena to snap at him for it, then proceeded to draw a sword from Anthy's chest. More and more strange things.

Mei | One Stormy Night | Unreserved | come and join me mods

[personal profile] sawasawa 2012-03-08 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
History:
A long time ago in a meadow far, far away... when Mei was nothing more then a little kid (get it? kid?) he and his mother were attacked by a pack of wolves while grazing. His mother, being the brave and amazing mama goat that she was, bought Mei some time to escape and live another day by attacking the wolves head on. She even bit an ear off one wolf! However despite being in an animated movie aimed at small children, a single goat is in no way a match for a pack of hungry wolves and she was devoured.

Flash forward an indiscriminate amount of time and Mei is now out eating grass and playing with his friends. As they were about to head home, a terrible thunderstorm inconveniently blows in. Being absolutely terrified of thunderstorms, Mei spazes and panics his way over to an abandoned barn while his other friends run home. Now nightfall, the barn is pitch black, aside from the occasional lightning strike, and the weather has given Mei a case of the sniffles. So as he hears a mysterious stranger enter the barn, he assumes they are another goat. As they began chatting, they realized that they had a freakish amount of things in common. For one they were both coming down with colds and couldn't smell a thing, not to mention they were both so terrified of lightning they closed their eyes every time there was a flash. Coincidentally both of their mothers would tell them to eat more, and both of their mothers were dead. Not to mention they both liked eating at the same place, not even realizing their definitions of "food" were very different. Realizing just how similar they were and just how much they got along, they promised to meet each other the next day for lunch. Of course, since neither knew what the other looked like, they came up with the code "One Stormy Night" so they would know their new friend when they say them.

Of course, it was very surprising for both parties when they found out that the friend they had met the previous night was their predator and prey. Though surprisingly enough, that didn't stop them from their picnic. Mei trusted his new wolf friend because if he had wanted to eat him, he would have done so when they first met. And for his part, his new friend told him that he treasured friendship more then a meal. As it turns out they had another thing in common: both being raised to take care of their friends. All in all? Things go pretty smoothly until they have to cross a crevice in the road, and his new wolf friend accidentally drops the lunch he packed with him. Suddenly his words are tested, and he eyeball's Mei's literal ass and contemplates how delicious he would taste the rest of the way. And surprisingly not even this ruined their picnic, as he successfully managed to convince Mei that he had absolutely no interest in goat meat. Which was all well and good until Mei decided to take a nap, and by then his wolfy friend was simply overcome with instinct to devour his new friend. Nipping at Mei's ears. Naturally this caused Mei to spring awake, not because of the sudden mortal fear that he's about to be eaten, but because his ears are extremely ticklish, and being the naive little goat that he was: thought his new friend was just tickling him. In fact Mei doesn't even fear for his mortal life when he was being lunged at, only asking him what he wanted. Luckily instead of being devoured they instead awkwardly came up with another date.

The following meeting is a little more dangerous then the first. At a meeting of all the goats, the elder goat reminds everyone not to travel on their own. Mei tries to sneak off during the meeting however he is caught by his friends and is forced to go to his secret meeting with them tagging along. Obviously Mei is a little disappointed that he has to bring his friends along with him, as it's awfully hard to keep his friendship a secret when other goats are around.Thankfully they are spotted and his new friend decides to hide in the bushes beneath a particularly fragrant olive tree, which has the lovely side effect of masking his scent. The precarious situation was only made worse by one of Mei's friends telling him about how ugly wolves were. Being thoroughly insulted by the description, Mei's friend howls from the bushes. However that backfires, as that only goads his friend about how he isn't afraid of wolves. And in a display of how he's fight them off, accidentally kicks the wolf in the head. Not being able to handle this crap anymore, he leaps out of the bushes and successfully scares Mei's friends off so they can take a nice walk through the woods and chat about how they need to keep their friendship a secret. It is during this meeting that they finally make introductions, and Mei learns his new friend's name is Gabu.

Personality: (Please consider here things such as habits, likes and dislikes, thought patterns, experiences and so on. This section should be fairly detailed!)

Gabu is a loyal wolf, who ‘holds friendship above all things’. He dedicates himself quickly to Mei when he finds out how alike they are. Since he was a pup, the people he thought were his ‘friends’ would tease him and bully him, so someone like Mei was easy to attach to because of his sweet disposition. Gabu’s loyalty to his friends goes so far as to make him forcibly give up his nature as a wolf and vow not to eat Mei, even though goat meat is his favorite food. He’d rather go without than lose Mei to death or betrayal by eating his comrades. He goes against his entire pack, figuratively and literally, just to keep Mei safe and protects him with his life.

He’s very friendly, accepting Mei almost immediately upon learning he was a goat during their first lunch together. He tends to be polite, apologizing for off color things he might say almost immediately and always offering Mei a hand when walking over obstacles in the woods. He likes to laugh and make jokes and generally do pleasant things with his friend. From what we see of his interactions with the other wolves, despite their ill nature towards him, he’s pretty consistently nice to them, as well.

Gabu’s got a crafty nature, and is intelligent. He can think up plans on the fly, even though they might be reckless, in order to save Mei or himself. He tricks the leader of their wolf pack away from Mei when he almost finds him in the fog on Crumbling Rock and thinks to hide himself and Mei behind a boulder in a cave to keep Mei from being caught.

Out of the two of them, he is probably the most optimistic. He almost seems to flat out refuse to give up hope until he’s in dire straits. Even as Mei seems to be dying on the mountain and pleads with him to eat him so that he can survive, Gabu opts instead to make his own option and find food for Mei so he can make it down the mountain. Gabu start to doubt, but never gives up on their dream to make it to their forest.

Gabu can sometimes stick his foot in his mouth. As stated before, he sometimes has to apologize for off color things he says to Mei. He doesn’t always think about Mei’s position as a goat when he’s speaking, though he always catches himself when his mouth moves before his brain and apologizes for it. The culture of wolves is all he really knows, and he sometimes fumbles through his attempts at learning what is and isn’t sensitive for goats, being prey and being hunted by his kind.

Pinkie Pie | Reserved | 2/4

[personal profile] brokethefourthwall 2012-03-18 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Character

Name: Pinkie Pie
Fandom: My Little Pony: FiM
Gender: Female
Age: Unknown, in canon. Headcanon places her at whatever the pony equivalent is to early-20s.
Time Period: Right before entering the maze in “The Return of Harmony, Part 1”
Wing Color: Bubblegum Pink
History: Wiki
Personality:
Bubbly and excitable, Pinkie represents the Element of Laughter, a powerful combination of friendship and magic that has helped to protect the kingdom of Equestria for thousands of years. Even before gaining her Element, she was the embodiment of happiness. She lived as a filly on her family’s rock farm (which heavily suggested an Amish lifestyle) with her two sisters. It was only after witnessing a rainbow-colored explosion in the sky that she decided to dedicate her life to making people happy, through laughter, comedy, and her now-famous parties. It was later revealed that the explosion was actually her friend Rainbow Dash’s first Sonic Rainboom, further cementing their friendship as something “fated” to happen.
While Pinkie’s comedic attitude can come off as immature to those unfamiliar with her, the bubblegum-pink pony is surprisingly intelligent and insightful. When the town becomes infested with a plague of Parasprites, Pinkie devises a plan which, while looking like another random prank, ends up saving the town. She is also surprisingly courageous. In “Friendship is Magic, part 2” she teaches her friends her secret to laughing away her fears through an impromptu song. As such, rarely is she truly scared in many situations. During Nightmare Night, the pony equivalent to Halloween, Pinkie spends the night screaming and fleeing in terror from Princess Luna, however, when confronted about the behavior, she simply thought it would be funny and fit with the holiday theme. Her perception also allows her to recognize her limits. She is usually can tell when to stop and leave someone alone, like exempting the cripplingly-shy Fluttershy from her pranks and more “excitable” antics. Still, her determination and stubbornness may push her over the edge, leading to shenanigans she often needs help to fix.
Friendship may be the most important thing in the world to Pinkie. She makes an effort to meet, know, and befriend everyone she meets, no matter the cost. She also memorizes a surprising amount of information on all her friends, including birthdays, hobbies, and anything else that might be a cause to celebrate. If someone doesn’t want to be friends with her, she will continue to try, doing whatever it takes, generally not leaving that person alone until they accept her. This has led to some being friendly to, but generally annoyed by Pinkie and her antics. Still, she remains blissfully unaware of this fact. Friendship is so important to her, in fact, that the thought of friends abandoning her drives her into an instant depression. In “Party of One,” when Pinkie believed that her best friends no longer wanted her around, it resulted in a reality-breaking delusion. She continued to throw her planned party, but instead created her own friends out of various household items, and being aggressive towards any actual pony trying to interact with her.

Envy || FMA: BROHOOD || Reserved 2/?

[personal profile] oldest_trick 2012-05-01 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Envy is one of the seven homunculi that Father (or Dwaft in the Flask) made to separate the seven deadly sins from his very being. Envy is the most sadistic out of all of the Homunculi, and finds the act of killing to be exhilarating, even fun. It finds enjoyment in all kinds of murder from killing a mere child and starting the Ishvalan War, to seeing the look on the face of Maes Hughes as it killed him in a body that looked exactly like his wife’s. It’s somewhat psychotic personality is a perfect match for it’s powers: transformation. This allows the Homunculus to imitate others and make it’s methods of killing far more creative and effective.

However. Despite it’s love for murder, it still does not seem to like confrontation. In the manga when it first meets Ed, it states that it finds fighting to be bothersome. Which isn’t exactly true. It’s not that it doesn’t love fighting (it initiates several confrontations in the series). It doesn’t love fighting that it doesn’t feel like is a complete curb stomp in it’s favor. Inside Gluttony’s stomach it doesn’t mind taking on both Ling and Ed at once for example. Against Roy, it actually tries to start a fight with him but runs away when it is clearly outmatched.

It might not LOVE fighting but it doesn’t seem to mind it all that much. That being said, Envy is an assassin through and through though and favors killing mainly targets that can’t properly defend themselves or are too distracted to take immediate action. Which is a reason why it chooses to use it’s transformation abilities to their fullest and transform into people it’s victim knows. That way it creates enough of a pause to leave an opening.

Although Envy boasts about it’s hate for humans and how inferior they are throughout the majority of the series, at the end it is revealed by Edward that it’s actually quite envious of humans. It’s jealous of their unity and how they can look pass the past and come together for a common goal. Envy knows it will never have this kind of closeness with it’s fellow homunculi or even the figure it refers to as “Father” and it is obviously saddened by this fact.

Even if Envy talks as if it’s big and tough, it does recognize authority as well as when it is clearly outmatched. Until then it doesn’t hold anyone (but Father) at any particular high regard. Not even it’s fellow Homunculi. It even calls Bradly a “brat” in the manga. Yet it seems to show respect for Father as it never strays too far from his original plans. It also apologizes when Father tells it it talks too much (in the official dub at least). This is the only time it’s ever seen doing this in the whole series. And of course, another example is when it is fighting Mustang. It has no problems begging for it’s life when it is endanger. A part of the reason is probably to try and play off sensitive “human emotion” so it can have enough time to recover and maim Roy.

Despite decades upon decades of murder it has committed, with sadistic glee, Envy itself is actually terrified of death. It’s shown crying in agony at the last moments of it’s life, begging for Roy not to kill it. before finally accepting it’s fate and committing suicide.
Despite it’s sadistic nature Envy is actually (surprisingly) not a complete monster. And is even capable of having regular conversations and even having what people would consider associates. It has somewhat of a close relationship with Gluttony and Lust as those are the two it hangs around most often in the series and they are also who it acts friendliest with. Gluttony it treats as somewhat of a dumb pet and Lust it actually seems to regard as a friend. In the manga, Envy throws a fit at Wrath for not killing Roy after he had killed Lust and humiliated them.

Envy doesn’t just like killing humans however. It also likes creating pointless human conflicts to prove just how “beneath” it and easily manipulated humans can be from just a small, single action (It brags about how Ishval was wiped out all because of a single bullet it fired). It often does this by using it’s powers to disguise it’s self as someone, and doing something to create enough tension that violence becomes inevitable. Such an example is of course how it started the war and another is after Edward and Alphonse exposed Cornello as a fake. Envy impersonates him and performs a “miracle” trying to convince Edward. This leaves the town folk to divided about what to believe and trust that they begin to fight each other.

Name: Anju

Age: No canon age given; estimated 21
Time Period: The night of day 2, 8:30 PM. Anju ☂ The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask ☂ Reserved 2/3

[personal profile] stockpot 2012-05-01 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
History: Long, long ago...Yes. We were still young. We made a promise...didn't we?
Personality:
Anju is, for the most part, a meek and hardworking woman. She lives and works entirely in her hometown, Clock Town, and does so tirelessly. She is a caring individual; she listens to her mother, she takes care of and cooks for her difficult grandmother, and she is helpful with all of her customers. Unfortunately, life has a tendency to work against her. Her cooking is awful, so her grandmother pretends to be senile to avoid eating her cooking. Her mother is incredibly overbearing. When the Festival of Time comes around, Anju is also so overworked that she has trouble managing the reservations. She is relieved when people do have reservations, and she gets extremely flustered when she has to turn people away for not having one.

While she’s content in her work and where she is in life, she struggles with her confidence and her happiness. When her fiance, Kafei, goes missing, she can’t even bear to see him in person; she’s too afraid of the answer she’ll find. At certain times, if Link speaks to her in the right form, she’ll also admit that she’s been moping too often, that she needs to smile more and try to be happy. However, when things hit Anju, they have a tendency to hit her hard. She’s extremely impressionable to the point where her emotions can make her stay or evacuate Clock Town without seeing her fiance again. She also overreacts often and is easily flustered/startled; whether it’s wearing Kafei’s mask, receiving a letter from him, or just having someone walk up to her at the wrong time of day, she may stammer and be unable to complete her thoughts.

Her main driving force in the game, though, is her fiance, Kafei. Events prior to the game’s staring have him missing, leaving Anju to wonder about his love, whether or not their marriage is going to happen. This will no doubt carry into Luceti; she’s left waiting for him, sure he’s going to come back after receiving her pendant of memories from Link. Him not being around is a constant source of stress and worry for her, and it’s made worse by her mother saying that he’s no good and trying to get Anju to evacuate Clock Town with her. Her devotion to him not only shows that she is an indecisive woman who worries a lot; but he is the only one for her. In the end, Kafei is the person she’s loved since they were children.

There’s one thing about Anju, though, that separates her from other people. While the moon is falling closer and closer to the town, more and more people panic. Some don’t, some cower and become afraid...but when she has the means to, Anju is completely fearless. In her final moments in the game (though time is reset thanks to Link), she waits alone in her room and waits for the moon to fall so that she can spend her last hours with Kafei, all because he gave her his word that he would show up. While everyone has evacuated the town and the moon is surely going to destroy the town, Anju is one of the few who remain, willing to put aside her fear of death to see her love again.

All in all, Anju is a normal woman, if somewhat meek, who constantly gets the short end of the stick. Her father died when she was young, her cooking is so awful her grandmother pretends to not know who she is, and her mother tries to make important decisions for her. She’s a sane person living in a town with people like the Postman and Link-Goro constantly confusing her. She works hard, never hardly works, and is concerned for the well-being of everyone, always willing to give a hand. And in the end? For her, her love with Kafei can convince her to do almost anything.

Strengths:
Physical: Anju is a hard worker! She doesn’t tire out easily, as she manages an entire inn with her mother. It may only have two rooms, but it’s still a lot of work doing chores for so many people. She’s young, healthy, and in shape. She may not have any special abilities aside from those, but she’s perfectly capable of giving her all.

Mental/Emotional: Anju is relatively level-headed when compared to the rest of the people in Clock Town. Despite how flustered she gets and how she loses confidence easily, she is able to look past these things and focus on work instead of giving up on everything. She’s able to force a smile and keep working, even if the pain is obvious to everyone around. Her relationship with Kafei is also a strong point for her; he’s living proof that she’s able to overcome things, become fearless. She’s always willing to do her best to help out; this is seen clearly in how much work she does around the inn despite her less than stellar state of mind. Not much is revealed about her education, but it can be assumed she can read, write, and do math given that she reads and writes letters and works in an inn.

Weaknesses:

Physical: Just like she has no real physical strengths, Anju has no major physical weaknesses. She’s not the strongest woman around, and she has no special skills aside from doing chores and working hard.

Emotional/Mental: As aforementioned, Anju is a person who is easily surprised and flustered and depressed. She has the potential to move past these feelings and work hard, but those feelings are there. She has difficulty trying to get her point across, she sometimes is so down that she’ll reveal it to strangers, and she also has a tendency to be easily pushed around. Her happiness, at times, is entirely dependant on Kafei (though that’s hardly her fault; the true love of her life vanished). She has a terrible memory for faces on the mental side of things, and she can be a bit clueless about things that are going on around her (such as her grandmother only pretending to be senile).

[personal profile] victorbychance 2012-05-01 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

I think Peeta Mellark can best be described by an acronym involving the letters of the alphabet, so I’ll start with that.

Just kidding.

Come to think of it, that sounds like something he’d say.

Peeta seems to have been deliberately created to be the epitome dream guy. He’s the only character in the series Katniss describes as “good.” As in, he constantly puts others before himself, to the point where it’s easy to wonder he has no self-worth, is biologically lacking in any self-preservation instincts, or if he’s simply angelically humble (I think it’s a combination of the first and last). Indeed, he seems to spend as little time as possible thinking about himself, which includes (besides two dark points) any form of self-pity or brooding. He’s good in the sense of something that permeates every thought and action. His morality is completely devoid of revenge or gossip, and his natural charisma makes him a real charmer to boot. He is kind, patient, loving, romantic, strong, solid, and dependable. On the other hand, he’s also very possibly the series’ best liar and manipulator.

So many of Peeta’s traits begin with his charisma. In the interviews the night before the Hunger Games begin, the tributes are given three minutes to make an impression. Both times, Peeta completely blows the other candidates out of the water with his easy charm and witty humor. Katniss remembers him always being surrounded by a crowd of friends at school—no one close enough to volunteer to take his place in the Games, but probably very good friends nonetheless. He has an inborn way with people, and knows exactly how to get the reaction he wants in front of a crowd. It’s no time at all before a crowd is eating out of his hand.

This innate sense of how people work is his superpower, which he uses for good. His manipulations are used to benefit Katniss in the Hunger Games—first, making her look desirable by confessing his love publicly, then causing outrage before the second Games by saying she’s going into the arena pregnant. He has a very patient way of dealing with Haymitch and the morphling woman from 6, and in the latter case gives her a sense of comfort as she dies. He pulls a particularly powerful stunt on Katniss by bringing into the second arena a locket containing pictures of her family and Gale to try to convince her to save herself instead of him. While she is deeply moved, she still refuses to budge on the issue. It’s not a literal superpower, after all. The closest we come to seeing Peeta use this power for himself is in his casual statements of flirtation to Katniss when he’s already been told she’s not ready to love him or anyone. Even then, the flirting seems to be designed to uplift rather than guilt. Haymitch hardly ever coached Peeta on how to appear in front of a crowd, since he decided he was such a natural there was no point in wasting his time.

Part of this superpower is that he is a brilliant liar. The first memory Katniss has of him is the infamous day when he throws her two loaves of bread in the rain. Upon seeing her starving, he deliberately burned a few loaves of bread, knowing his mother would probably beat him for it. Taking her blow in stride, he carried the loaves out, threw one or two to the pigs, then discreetly tossed the last two in Katniss’ direction before going back inside. Without saying a word, he lied to his mother, letting her believe him clumsy and stupid in order to give Katniss bread his mother believed was going to the pigs. His lies to the audience about a secret marriage between him and Katniss and fabricates a pregnancy to increase sympathy for her. It is highly likely that this skill for deceit is as much a part of his survival routine as hunting is for Katniss. Peeta is (presumably) the youngest son in an unstable household, and lying is probably something he learned to do to diffuse his mother’s wrath for his sake and the sake of his brothers and father.

Being a liar doesn’t make him malicious. Peeta is incredibly kind, something Katniss first suspects (aside from the bread incident) when he volunteers to clean up Haymitch on the train. Haymitch is drunk, unconscious, and covered in his own vomit, but Peeta does not hesitate or complain. When he and Katniss visit District 11 as part of their Victory Tour, he publicly donates one month of their winnings to the families of Rue and Thresh every year for the rest of their lives to honor the sacrifice of their good-hearted children. When the idea backfires and he realizes this could spell trouble for the families instead of an end to their hunger, he is mortified and furious no one warned him the situation is so delicate. In fact, it’s one of the few times we see him angry enough to break things, and a few dusty old statues see the ends of their lives. He can’t abide being the cause of someone’s suffering.

Also despite being a liar, he has a very strong sense of integrity. The night before the first Games begins, his main concern besides getting Katniss out alive is keeping himself. “I want to die as myself,” he says. He doesn't want the arena to change him, and he wishes he could find a way to show the Capitol he's more than a tribute, more than a source of entertainment. In the end, he finds a way to do that, in the aborted suicide pact he and Katniss form. His highest, most selfish concern is protecting his self-identity.

Even when dying in the first book, Peeta has an irrepressible cheer, a real humor and wit and a desire to cheer people up. Delirious with blood poisoning, he apologizes to Katniss for costing her so much trouble, but assures her not to worry as she’ll get it all back. There’s an interesting dire quality to his humor, not really gallows humor, but putting a light spin on dark situations by making them seem not quite so bad. In the second book, his heart stops when he runs into a force field. When Finnick barely manages to revive him, his first, weak words to a nigh-hysterical Katniss are to warn her of a force field up ahead. His flirtations with Katniss in the second book tend to be lightly dusted with humor. He tells her they’re supposed to be acting madly in love, so she should feel free to kiss him at any time.

Rarely, Peeta has been known to display a temper. It seems to take quite a bit to really rile him, and it almost always involves someone else being wronged. Besides the previously mentioned incident in which he feared Rue and Thresh’s families would be punished, he is furious in the third book when President Coin suggests holding a Hunger Games involving children of the Capitol. He’s irked when Katniss shoves him into an urn and causes his hands to be badly cut, but doesn’t fly into a rage the way he does when it’s someone else on the line. The key factor seems to be personal responsibility—if it’s something he can stop, he takes it more personally. He really seems to believe in his own power to change things, and compromising that power or corrupting it is very, very problematic for him.

Perhaps unsurprisingly for someone with such a resolutely hopeful outlook on life, he’s a resilient sort of fellow. As evidenced by the second book, he doesn’t really bottle his feelings (although it takes him years to express his crush on Katniss). When Katniss awakes from a nightmare, she screams. When Peeta awakes from a nightmare, he paints. Katniss is “treated” to an exhibit of Peeta’s renditions of scenes from the Games, so accurate that she can’t bear to look at them. This method of self-expression possibly reduces, but does not cure, a natural sense of shame over his lack of ability to control his post-traumatic symptoms. He says they don’t make the nightmares better, but they must bring him some sense of catharsis or control, or he wouldn’t do it.

His devotion to Katniss’ well-being could be said to be a control issue resulting not only from his traumatic experiences in the Games, but from an unstable family life with an abusive parent as well. He never says so straight out, but I rather believe that, while he is truly a good and selfless person, helping others above himself provides him with a sense of control he has lost thanks to many circumstances in his life. Protecting someone else as well as himself is too difficult, but if he looks out entirely for someone else and not himself, that’s easier. Maybe he’s given up on protecting himself anyway. But if he can protect Katniss in any way possible, he can control something. He can really make a difference. He can be worth something. Even his taskmaster phase of sobering Haymitch and Katniss up for the second Games was for their sake, not his, and by gum he made them do it. Peeta is at least as fiercely protective as Katniss, but Katniss has her methods and Peeta has his, and in Peeta’s case, his protectiveness only marginally includes himself. It’s possible after so many years of taking his mother’s criticism and abuse, his sense of self-worth is not what it could be, but that can’t be all of it. His goodness is a strength of his, not a result of damage, and his selflessness is part of his goodness, so low self-worth can’t possibly be the entire explanation.

Peeta is a Sensitive Guy. As said before, it’s like Suzanne Collins wanted to create the epitome of What Women Want. When Peeta and Katniss meet after saying goodbye to their families in the first book, Peeta isn’t even trying to hide the fact that he has been crying. He’s far more prone to romantic sentiments than Katniss and his sense of hope in the world can lead him to getting hurt (although he seems to think it worthwhile). He’s clearly jealous of Gale in the second book and expresses to Katniss that they’ve saved each others’ lives but he doesn’t even know her favorite color. He’s not just a horny teenager, he’s a dude who would do anything for the one he loves, including dying. In future years, he’s the one who wants kids and convinces Katniss that she wants them as well. His fury and despair in the third book over being turned into a weapon against his friends leads him to suggest self-termination far too often and easily, and Katniss has to do an awful lot of convincing to get him to stay with her instead. But as stated before, he’s also resilient. He bleeds badly when he’s cut, but he’s willing to stick it out and wait till he heals again. In the end, after everything he’s been through, he still manages to find happiness with Katniss and their children.

Katniss thinks of Peeta as a wordsmith. He has a way of arresting people when he talks, and not just because of his charisma. Peeta has the mind of an artist, and words seem to be a part of that. More immediately, he’s an actual artist, a painter and (to go with the Sensitive Guy aspect) a cake decorator. Part of how he copes with the trauma of the Games is to paint, and part of his therapy after being hijacked is decorating Annie and Finnick’s wedding cake. In the end, he, Katniss, and Haymitch make an illustrated book about the other tributes and lives lost because of President Snow. It’s as naturally a part of him as breathing, and he’s very good at it.

Katniss describes a few habits of his, like how his default easy expression gives way to intense concentration when he’s being an artist. “You’re a painter. You’re a baker. You like to sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your tea. And you always double-knot your shoelaces.” Touch seems to be a real love language for him, and he spends many nights sleeping with Katniss in his arms to ward off both their nightmares (his are mostly of losing her, so when he wakes up and sees her, he’s fine, but it’s harder when he’s alone).

In conclusion, I think Peeta is best summed up by the following Weezer lyrics:

Again, I’m just kidding.

Character

Name: James "Logan" Howlett (aka Wolveirne)
Fandom: X-Men Evolution
Gender: Male
Age: 121 (Physically in his 30s)
Time Period: Ascension - Part 1 (before leading the attack on Apocalypse)
Wing Color: Yellow and black
History:

In-show history will be in regular text. Supplementary history taken from the comics will be in red.

James Howlett was born in 1882 in Alberta, Canada. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Howlett, a well to do family who had made it big in the copper industry. For the most part his childhood was a happy one, but circumstances with his childhood friends left a a bad mark on him. When his father was murdered in his teenage years, James's powers first manifested and his claws extended from his hands. He attacked his father's murderer and killed him. Realizing what he had done, he fled from his home and there began to start of his journeys. In order to hide his identity, he took the name Logan, which was in fact the surname of the man who killed his father. Over the course of his travels he went all over Canada, eventually joining up with the Canadian Army during the first World War.

During World War II, Logan once again fought for the Canadian Special Forces. For a time he even worked alongside Captain America, a super soldier from the United States. The two become close friends and fought several battles together, at one time even rescuing a young Erik Lensherr (who would later become Magneto). When they discovered that the super soldier serum was killing Captain America, the two worked together to shut down the program permanently, so no one else would have to go through the same process. In order to preserve his life, Captain America was placed in cryogenic stasis until a cure could be found. Though no scientist, Wolverine kept in close contact with SHIELD to keep track of his old friend for the day he could be revived.

Once again a loner, he continued his travels, spending some time in China and Japan and other parts of the world before eventually getting involved with the CIA and after that, the Vietnam War. During that time he worked with a black ops group called Team X, composed of Sabertooth and other mutants. He did this for several years, up until shortly before X-Men Evolution begins. It was because of Wolverine's abilities that he was taken to be a part of the Weapon X project by the Canadian government. It's unknown whether Logan was forced into it or did so willingly, as his memories from around that time are now fractured. But he underwent a painful procedure to have adamantium coated over all of his bones. The process was mind blowingly painful and a chip was installed in his brain in the process. He went crazy, destroyed the lab and killed many of the scientists and fled into the wilderness.

He was found abandoned in the snow by hunters who brought him to society. Violent and angry, he soon got involved in cage matches and gained a reputation as "Wild Man". He soon attracted the attention of Professor Xavier, who had begun the formation of the X-Men with his first member, Ororo Munroe. After escaping incarceration, Wolverine was confronted by Xavier and Magneto, both vying to get them on their side. When it came down to choosing Magneto's war against humans or Xavier making peace, Wolverine concluded that he'd had enough war and he never thought of himself as any better than anyone else. So he chose to work with Xavier, becoming the second X-Men.

For awhile he and Storm worked as partners until Xavier began looking for young mutants to train. Their first was Scott, an orphan with the ability to fire optic blasts. Though cold to him at first, Logan soon came around to admiring his optimism and dedication. Soon after they found Jean Grey when her telekinetic powers went out of control. Following her was Kurt, arrived from Germany and Kitty, from Illinois. Storm's nephew Spyke joined the team and eventually, Rogue came around to become one of the X-Men too. Though a team full of rookies, Logan played a crucial role in their training, with his methods usually being dangerous and severe to the point that the team was often terrified of training with him. They even chose a summer wilderness survival camp as being a better alternative to his training.

Over the course of their conflicts with the Brotherhood and Magneto, Wolverine was called back to the site of the Weapon X program where he learned fragments of his past and about the chip in his head. Thanks to the help of Kitty and Kurt, he was able to break free of control and return to the X-Men. Over the course of the next year, after a conflict with Magneto on Asteroid M, the school is expanded with an extended group of students to train. Later he discovers that Magneto has found the device used to create Captain America and intends to use it for himself. Reluctantly he takes Rogue and Kurt along on a mission to destroy it. At the last minute, Kurt fails to destroy it and spares Magneto. Though the device ends up destroyed, Magneto chooses to spare the three of them because of Kurt's own mercy. The three are allowed to escape.

Later that year Wolverine is captured by Trask and used to test his new Sentinel program to see how well they can deal with mutants. In the process, he is captured by the government and the X-Men and Brotherhood are exposed as mutants on national television. He is held in Area 51 until the remaining free X-Men (with a tip from SHIELD's Nick Fury) release him. At that point, with Xavier still missing, the group goes into hiding. When they're spotted by the military, Wolverine is eager to take them. However Scott steps up and declares that they won't be killing anyone. Furious and angry, Wolverine goes his separate way while the remaining team takes on the military. He goes solo for awhile, trying to track down Xavier. When it turns out that the others manage to find him on their own, he comes back to the team and rejoins.

As the mutants deal with being outed in public, a villain named Mesmero began his efforts towards releasing Apocalypse. Later, Rogue's friend Risty is exposed to be Mystique, who had also been Rogue's adoptive mother. When Rogue's psyches and mental state become too much for her to handle, Logan takes charge in trying to bring her to sense. Rather than take her down by force, he talks her down and convinces her to take control. When she finally does and passes out, Logan stays at her bedside continuously until she wakes up again. Not long after, Wolverine is again visited by Nick Fury. He discovers that before the Weapon X program, the terrorist organization HYDRA managed to steal Wolverine's DNA and created a female clone of him, X-23. Despite being only twelve and recently infused with adamantium, she escaped their custody and raided a SHIELD lab and is now eager for revenge on Wolverine, who she blames for his creation. The two eventually have to face off, but in the end Logan is able to get through to her and something of a bond is formed. However, she is forced to flee when SHIELD shows up to collect her, leaving Logan to speculate her fate.

Soon after, Rogue fell under the control of Mesmero and was used to absorb the power of every X-Men so that she could awaken Apocalypse. Wolverine was forced to reluctantly team up with Sabertooth and Gambit to track her down, all the way to Tibet to try and stop Mesmero. In the end, they arrived too late and despite the assembled forced of the X-Men and Magneto's acolytes, they stood no chance against Apocalypse and were taken down by a single blast. While Apocalypse began to set his plans in motion, the X-Men had to bide their time waiting for a way to strike back. During that time, Wolverine was kidnapped by Omega Red, but managed to escape into the forest where he ran into X-23. She was on a mission to take down Madame Hydra, who was responsible for her creation. In the end it appeared she was killed, but after catching her scent, Wolverine concluded she was still alive and on the run still.

Soon after, the time came for a confrontation with Apocalypse, where Xavier and Storm went to try and negotiate a truce of some sort. However, their attempts failed and the two were seemingly killed in the process. With the X-Men as the last line of defense, Wolverine has begun calling in any mutant they can to join the fight, while working with SHIELD, and coming up with a plan to neutralize Apocalypse's powers.

Character

Name: Sheryl Nome
Fandom: Macross Frontier
Gender: Very, very female.
Age: Late teens. We're going with 17ish
Time Period: End of the anime series but not drawn from the movies
Wing Color: Pale yellow with baby pink tips
History:

Sheryl's story begins back on Macross Galaxy. She's a child of the street and lives like any homeless person would before she was discovered by Grace O'Connor and rescued from the streets. After this, there was a period of time where Sheryl was admitted to the hospital to begin treatment for the V-type infection that she has become a carrier for. This is a very difficult to treat infection and as such, comes back to haunt Sheryl in the later years of her life. It is sometime during this point in her young life that Sheryl is codenamed Faerie-9 and given the name Sheryl Nome by Grace. Of course, this was never the case as Sheryl was aptly named by her mother, Mao Nome. Sheryl's mother also left her a gift in the form of her Grandmother's Fold Quartz earrings and Sheryl will eventually begin to take the steps to become the Galactic Nymph.

Fast-forward many years towards Sheryl's arrival at Macross Frontier where it has all been conveniently planned that the Vajra will begin their next series of attacks. Sheryl goes about her daily life as a pop idol as she prepares for her concert. Her first encounter with Alto was when he caught her after she jumped off a tower edge during her concert and he had to take her sailing through the air to the delight of an enraptured crowd. However, this concert doesn’t go as planned as the Vajra begin their first attack upon the Frontier. The first attacks takes place during Sheryl's first concert and she's outraged that it's ending. It was her show and she wanted to see it through to the end. When the call to evacuate is given however, you better evacuate. Of course, Alto doesn't approve of this and let's Sheryl know that she isn't being a professional if she doesn't care about what happens to her fans.

Along the way in her travels on Macross Frontier, Sheryl encounters Ranka Lee who is a big fan of hers. They eventually end up in a park where they witness the SMS Skull Squadron taking off to fight in a battle. Eventually, Sheryl is reunited with Alto where she demands that he return the lost earring that she'd been searching for earlier in the day while also searching for him throughout the main colony of Frontier. She's also quite skilled at getting lost but anyone is likely to get lost while running around in foreign territory. However, just in time for some good old bonding time between the love-triangle, a Vajra attack occurs. Thankfully, there's an emergency shelter nearby, which has Ranka, Sheryl and Alto taking refuge in. Alto and Sheryl being the wonderfully mature young adults that they are, take the time to have an argument in front of Ranka who does good on her attempt to diffuse their lovers spat. In comes the specialty of the Nyan Nyan Restaurant; perfectly shaped breasts with perky pink nipples! tuna dumplings! Insert laughter here. Sadly, tragedy is looming in the air as their oxygen begins to run out but help is on the way. Just in the nick of time, Grace and Cathy find them in the shelter and save the day!

This leads Sheryl to giving Ranka some advice about a golden opportunity being just around the corner for the young aspiring singer. This event is none other than the Miss Macross Pageant. Sheryl is a guest judge for the event in which she witnesses Ranka lost the competition but she begins getting a lot more attention through her tribulations. At this time, Sheryl is still the number one pop idol despite the tragedy that befalls her home of Macross Galaxy. A distress call comes from Galaxy about being attacked by a huge swarm of Vajra and it is eventually learned early in the series that the main island of Galaxy is presumed lost in space.

Eventually, the Vajra have settled on Frontier as their main target as Sheryl proclaims that even though Galaxy is missing, that she will keep moving forward for the sake of those who are missing. She sings bravely and refuses to give up despite the fact that she practically breaks down emotionally on the stage while singing. Before the concert however, Alto shows up backstage to return Sheryl’s earring to her. This leads Sheryl to give Alto the earring as a good charm luck to keep him safe in battle. Regardless of her tsundere nature, Sheryl is falling in love with Alto.

Naturally, when Alto loses her earring in the heat of the battle while he’s saving Luca, Sheryl’s not overly impressed with this. It also leads her to stay on Frontier as there is no news of Galaxy’s whereabouts. Furthermore, it leads her to spend a day at Mihoshi High School to see what it’s like to be around kids her own age. Sheryl’s never experienced what it’s like to be a normal teenager so this is a new experience for her. Eventually, Sheryl also joins the high school as a member of the pilot programming.

Sadly for Sheryl, her V-type infection is starting to manifest itself. She doesn’t have as much work to do lately so she’s been seen at Mihoshi High a lot more frequently. At first, there are just little signs of a problem and perhaps she’s just getting a cold when she starts sneezing. As it is soon discovered, Sheryl’s constantly running a fever and overworking herself when she should be resting. Being the stubborn and headstrong young woman that she is, Sheryl keeps pushing herself regardless of her health and wellbeing.

Eventually work is arranged for Sheryl around Alto’s birthday to which point she offers him the gift of being able to fly in an open sky. This leads the duo toward Gallia IV to put on a concert for the 33rd Battalion which is mostly comprised of Zentraedi. Sadly though, Sheryl collapses immediately after landing and is not fit to perform in the concert. This situation enrages the rebel Zentraedi at the base and a large battle ensues while Sheryl begins a fight for her life. The day is later saved by Ranka and Michael who arrive from Frontier in the nick of time to prevent a lot of bloodshed.

Not long after this, Sheryl is recovering and insists upon helping Michael searching for the now missing Ranka and Alto after a series of events have all the electrical devices malfunctioning. Of course, it’s not long after this that another battle with the Vajra ensues. Meanwhile, Sheryl’s manager Grace decides to unleash a powerful bomb that destroys half of Gallia IV. Michael, with Sheryl in tow, boards his plane and begin their escape from Gallia IV by hitching a ride with the Vajra horde that is intent on attacking Frontier.

Naturally, Sheryl and Michael make it back to Frontier but the SMS pilot is injured during the fold trip back. This leaves Sheryl in quite the predicament as she must put her training as a pilot from Mihoshi High to the test. She proclaims that she’s Sheryl and pilots the plane back to the Macross Quarter albeit haphazardly. Michael is taken to a medical centre for treatment while Sheryl goes to make sure that Alto comes back to the ship alive.

After the battles are over, Sheryl is hospitalized to recover from her illness. Grace takes it upon herself to cancel all of Sheryl’s work while the diva declares that she’s fine and can still work. However, before Sheryl can get in another word, Grace leaves the room which annoys Sheryl. Later on, Alto comes to visit her with Ranka in tow and soon afterwards, Sheryl and Ranka are engaging in a contest to one up the other in regards to their relationship with Alto.

Soon after this, Sheryl learns that Grace has become Ranka’s manager at the insistence of the Frontier Government. The ill diva will leave the hospital and find her way to the bridge of Macross Quarter. It is here that she witnesses the power of Ranka’s song Aimo. After witnessing Ranka’s song, Sheryl makes the decision to confront her manager and demand why she’s become Ranka’s manager. This is where Sheryl will learn that if Grace hadn’t pulled her off the street all those years ago, she would’ve been a nobody that no one would pay attention to while living on the streets of Galaxy. This devastates Sheryl and leaves her to go staggering through the streets while searching for Alto in the rain. She soon collapses after this and calls out for Alto’s help to be aided by his adoptive older brother.

Dressed in the garb of Alto’s late mother at the Saotome mansion, Sheryl proclaims that she’s going to give up singing. She cites that she’s achieved most of what she wanted to do anyway which infuriates Alto who had snuck into the mansion to visit and he ultimately leaves in frustration. During the concert to celebrate National Aimo Day, Sheryl watches from a distance and is about to give up on Alto when she is encouraged by Klan to not give up on her love. Sheryl goes after Alto and tries to talk to him only to have a dizzy spell and fall into Alto’s arms.

At this point, the vajra have begun a large scale attack on the interior of the Frontier. Ranka is pleaded by Alto to sing and with Sheryl watching, the younger girl runs away. Sheryl catches up with Ranka who has tripped and sits on the floor weeping to give the girl a slap across the face and encourages her to sing. Unfotunately, Ranka’s song doesn’t have the same impact because her feelings for Alto have been completely crushed. Together, with Luca, Michael and Nanase, the group flees Mihoshi. Sadly, an attack lands in the middle of their group which leaves Nanase badly injured with Sheryl at her side.

She shouts at Alto to keep going and essentially to fight. It isn’t stated how Sheryl and Nanase arrive at a shelter but they do. Nanase’s wounds are tended and the people inside the shelter are terrified. It is here, that Sheryl discovers that she truly cannot give up singing. After deciding that if Ranka is going to be the songstress of hope that she will be the Songstress of Despair, Sheryl sings her song Diamond Crevasse to calm the people inside the shelter.

Restarting her career under the eye of Elmo, Sheryl begins to sing again but in a different perspective. At this point, Sheryl’s V-type infection becomes terminal as it reaches her brain. However, because it has does this, her singing now has the ability to transmit faint fold waves. Her talents are immediately employed by Mishima’s newly formed government to continue Frontier’s fight against the Vajra. Alto even takes the time to cook for Sheryl despite limited resources on a slowly being crippled Frontier. It allows them to have a brief respite of peace even as the songstress gets drunk and gets carried to bed by Alto.

Then, the final battle to save Frontier and to settle a recently discovered habitable planet – soon discovered to be the Vajra home world – and Sheryl sings to help the Frontier troops. A battle ensues as Ranka’s song soon leads the Vajra to fight better and Sheryl’s own songs to be ineffective. Much to the woman’s horror, she watches Alto’s Valkyrie get blown up. Witnessing this devastates Sheryl in a way that being told she’d be a nobody ever did. She stares at the screen in a catatonic state until Alto declares that he knows who the true enemy of Frontier is. In the end, it takes a combined effort of Alto and Sheryl to snap Ranka out of her trance and disrupt Grace’s control of the Vajra. Furthermore, Sheryl is also cured of her V-type infection as Ranka magically transfers the infection from her brain into her belly.
As Ranka returns to Frontier, Sheryl and the latter combine their singing efforts to take control of the Vajra so that the true enemy, the Battle Galaxy, can be defeated. Thanks to the Vajra and Macross Quarter, Frontier safely lands on their home.

In the end, Ranka and Sheryl go running into the distance after Alto.

Cheria Barnes | Canon update 2/?

[personal profile] madonnya 2012-05-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: When she was young, Cheria acted very pushy towards her friends despite her illness. For example, she scolded Asbel for hoping to name a girl Tiger Festival and got mad at him and his brother for visiting the flower meadow without her. After the seven year skip, this trait is still very much present. Every so often, she’ll try to give the party members a forceful nudge in the right direction. She tries to catch Pascal and force her to take a bath, tells Malik off for spreading wild stories, gets mad at Asbel for not looking after Sophie properly… you name it. A trait that diminished after the timeskip is her jealousy of Sophie. She considered the girl a ‘rival’ when she was young, worried that Asbel might find her cuter. Later, she comes to the realization that he considers her more of a younger sister, or even a daughter. When she first meets with Asbel after the seven years have passed, she acts incredibly cold towards him. After all, they hadn’t parted on the best of terms and she hadn’t heard a word from him since. A while later, she learns about his reasons for staying out of touch and seemingly forgives him, becoming more open.

Cheria is a very emotional person when it comes down to it. She’s seen crying a few times in the game, when things get too hard for her to handle. Near the end of the main arc, when Lambda starts to overtake Asbel’s body, her knees literally give way. She’s also very prone to screaming when she becomes frightened, to the point where it’s downright hysterical. Of course, to compensate for that, her positive emotions are also very strong. She blushes easily and when she’s in a good mood, she’s very pleasant to be around.

Cheria is very kind, acting like a mother for everyone. She gives advice where it’s needed, tries to calm her friends down when they’re upset and guides them along. Her motherly traits are even pointed out in the game several times, whereas Asbel would be the protective father, a notion which instantly causes Cheria to become flustered. While it’s clear to everyone except Asbel himself that she holds strong feelings for him, she has a lot of difficulty expressing this. In this aspect, she’s similar to her mother, who apparently had to write a piano song to let Cheria’s father know how she felt about him. Whenever the topic comes up, she’ll become flustered or even downright defensive. Whenever she feels cornered, she isn't beyond putting up a huffy front and denying all accusations. Mind, she’s a terrible liar and most people can see right through her.

Growing up a servant, Cheria has very strong feelings of loyalty, especially towards the Lhant family. She tries her best to be helpful by doing everything that she can. After all, when she was young she was always burdened by her sickness and harbored a wish to be stronger. Strong enough to keep up with Asbel and everyone else. Thanks to Sophie’s power, her illness was cured and she could work as hard as she wanted. Despite that, even now, she still wishes she can be stronger, making her rather similar to Asbel. Whenever soldiers or civilians are injured, Cheria’s the first to approach them and heal their wounds. It doesn’t matter whether they’re allies or enemies, they’ll offer to help them if she can. She even healed Raymond, who stabbed himself after Hubert found out about the fact that he’d kidnapped her. It takes a lot of compassion to be so forgiving. Aside from that, she’s also very polite, speaking in a courteous manner, using apologies and "thank yous" whenever the situation calls for it. At one point, she’s compared to an “angel of joy”. After both Raymond and Bailey confess their love for her, the first even going as far as to ask for her hand in marriage, she doesn’t become upset or rudely reject them. Instead, the first thing she does is apologize and explain why she can’t be with either of them. Her heart belongs to someone else and she has things she still wants to do, after all.

Her feelings for Asbel are the reason he’s an exception to her polite nature. She views him as more of a childhood friend and secret love interest than a member of the prestigious Lhant family, which is why she’s more prone to losing her temper around him. Even as children, she would not hesitate to yell at him whenever he came up with another idiotic plan. This mostly counts for Asbel and to a lesser extent for everyone else. Her friends are the people she trusts and because of that, she feels she can be outspoken towards them. She respects Hubert’s voice of reason, but if he does something unreasonable she won’t hesitate to speak her mind. She watches over Sophie closely, as she considers the girl a younger sister, loses her composure more easily around Pascal because of her laidback nature, and holds a fair bit of respect towards Malik.

The main difference between Cheria in the main arc and Cheria as she is in the Lineages and Legacies arc, which takes place six months later, is that she seems to be a bit more open about her feelings for Asbel. She’s certainly accepted them as being true and when the others tease her about it, she gets a bit less flustered and defensive than she would have in the main arc. While suffering from a fever, she admits to him that she believes they can do anything if they stay together. Despite that, it’s ultimately Asbel who takes the first step, rather than the other way around. She still dotes on Sophie, she still badgers Pascal to take baths, she still teases Hubert about his feelings for Pascal, she still pushes herself to help others wherever she can… The only thing that really stands out is that Cheria harbors quite a bit of mistrust towards Lambda, believing firmly he will take over Asbel’s body. Her worry that Asbel as she knows him will cease to exist drives her to tears and in the end, it seems that she still does not believe in Lambda himself. Rather, she believes in Asbel who believes in Lambda.

Honestly, aside from less defensive about her own emotions, Cheria hasn’t developed much after the end of the main arc at all.

[personal profile] noletters 2012-05-01 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Roku is a carefree individual and a goofball at heart. With little turmoil in his life and living during the years before the war, Roku developed with more freedom and open view of the world as oppose to how much more militaristic the Fire Nation became. He was raised to be proper and of nobility, but when it wasn't necessary he was an easy-going guy who knew how to have fun. Much of his freetime before he was sent off on his Avatar training was likely spent with his best friend Prince Sozin. Titles meant nothing between them, and it showed Roku was very down to earth and treated others as equals. He can be a bit of a show off and a prankster, often wanting to impress his friends. He showed off a new trick he had learn with his glider to his friend, Gyasto while learning to airbend for example. He also has a little bit of arrogance as well, like how he pointed out his loss to the firebending match with Sozin was because of the tree root, not by Sozin's skills. These traits don't appear to cause harm towards others though. It's all good fun and not meant to cause trouble or a fight for anyone.

He likes to see others happy. He'll try to cheer people up who are down and frowns upon people who cause harm to others with terrible intentions or do it just for the fun of it. He's humble and modest. He values friendship and second chances, since he knows no one is perfect. He looks over people's faults and tries to see the good in others. This usually causes conflict with his own judgment, blinding him from the reality of it all. This means Roku can be indecisive, a flaw that even his older self admits to on several occasions. In a sense, he's naive, only knowing the life within the Fire Nation until he finally left for his training. At his age, he lacks the foresight never thinking that far ahead in the future and more concern with what is happening in the now.

Much of his personality remained relatively the same during his time in Luceti, although after being told certain events that happened during and after his time has left him feeling confused, cautious and doubt. It was his own best friend that was responsible for the 100 year war afterall, and he knew he was somehow responsible for letting it happen, a difficult fact to take in. Despite knowing this, he could never see Sozin in that light. He only wants to remember him as his best friend, though he'll never say it in front of the others. He did a terrible thing, but that's later, not the Sozin he knew yet. This again, further shows how he can easily turn a blind eye when it comes to his own friends.

When he returned to continue his training at the Southern Air Temple, he learned their customs and how the air nomads sought peaceful ways to resolve conflicts. This of course transfers to Roku easily due to his own carefree nature. He also learned about detaching himself from worldly problems and concerns, something he likely struggled with. Leaving the Fire Nation with nothing, but the clothes on his back was difficult for Roku afterall, with the only thing reminding him of home was Sozin's crown piece. If there's one thing he probably gain from training with them, it's to keep an open mind and don't always stay rooted to the ground. There are never one solution to a problem.

Strengths:
Physical: Roku is a skilled firebender, mastering it before he was told he was to be the next Avatar at age 16. As a firebender, he has a strong offense due to the nature of firebending, the element of power and a strong will. He has also mastered airbending after returning home to finish his training at the Southern Air Temple. Due to his already carefree nature, airbending comes easy to him.
Mental Either he's got a strong will, or he's just stubborn. It's hard to break his spirit since he tries to look for the positive in everything and ways to solve a problem without conflict. He is very open to things, carefree, and accepting. He may also have a better spiritual connection after his airbending training as the air nomads were a very spiritual culture. This in turn can help him have better control over the Avatar State and communicating with those in the spirit world.
Emotional Roku isn't the type to hide his feelings. If he feels happy, he'll show it, if he's feeling down, he'll let others know. If he has a crush on a certain girl name Ta Min, he'll have a hard time hiding that crush. Doesn't mean he's a total sap though, just that he has nothing to hide and pretty much wears his emotions on his sleeves.

Weaknesses:
Physical: As firebending is heavily based on offense, it leaves his defenses wide open. Eventhough he's learn to be more agile through airbending, he's still a bit of a klutz. He nearly fell down the stairs when he saw Ta Min. Besides that, no real tough skin or anything like that, so he'll bruise like any other normal person. Since he's devoted much of time mastering the elements, he's really only proficient in using his body and the elements as a weapon.
Mental: He only knows what he has been taught, the culture of his own nation. His mind was still naive about the world outside since he's lived all of his life up till then within the fire nation. He knows of his duty as the Avatar, but having to leave his friends and family for many years to come, that hits hard on a young teen who had only just learned of his destiny.
Emotional: Sometimes he lets his feelings get the better of his own judgment, leading him to be indecisive. It makes him think irrationally, eventhough he knows it is the right thing to do. An example would be, having to leave on his journey to become the Avatar. If he had the choice, he would not go on the journey so far away and to places unfamiliar to him. It can also be something as simple as trying to talk to Ta Min, but he is unable to find the courage to walk up and say anything.

Billy Kaplan / Wiccan 2/?

[personal profile] automailed 2012-05-01 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

"It's okay, Mom. We're super heroes. I meant to tell you."

Billy is the twin son of the Vision and the Scarlet Witch, soul-transferred to be reborn as the petite 16-year-old gay son of two ordinary Jewish folks living in the west side of New York. Already his life is overrun with Issues.

First and foremost Billy is, at the core, a nice kid. He's sweet, he's kind of sensitive, he's cheeky, and he has a great sense of humour. Sometimes he can be overly serious, but in general it's a situational thing; for the most part, he's right alongside his teammates making snarky commentary even in the middle of a battle. They really are exactly as advertised- Young Avengers. Bunch of teenage fanboys (...and girls) trying to be superheroes. And sometimes they even succeed!

"Okay, this completely violates Growing Man continuity."

Billy is one of the more fanboyish of the fanboy squad- he hero-worships the Avengers and many other superheroes of the world, speaking to them with respect and sometimes even awe, often making quiet "aside" comments about how he can't believe this is actually happening, or his teammates won't believe him, or how awesome it is. He is a superhero geek to the very core. He's a geek to the point where you could compare him to one of those walking-dictionary comic convention panelists. (The kind people just want to punch sometimes.) Often times in battle or when the team is facing off against a hero or villain they haven't met before, Billy is the one to recognize the person and in some cases state their significance to a degree that ought to be worrying. It comes in handy on occasion, though. He's also a Norse mythology geek (his super-alter ego was originally based on Thor, after all), and is almost certainly into comics and video games, too. For a character who is normally rather dry and sarcastic, his geekdom is one of the things that gets him really enthusiastic and passionate about.

"Your mom died protecting the one person she loved more than anyone in the universe. She was a hero... just like her son."

The geek side comes hand in hand with the fact that he's kind of... well, sensitive. He cries, he's sometimes easily offended, and he loves to touch people. He's the first to set a companionable hand on someone's shoulder or to offer an encouraging word, and it doesn't take much invitation for him to try and get close to someone. He likes musicals and cozying up to his loved ones and holding hands and- okay, he really is the epitome of bully fodder in high school. But he's not a pushover either, even if you were to ignore the superhero powers. He'll use logic and clever thinking to avoid a conflict if it's possible, and if it's not, then he'll face the problem head-on and deal with it. So what if his hills are alive with the sound of music when the costume comes off?

"They're not your people. They're not even people."

As a contrast to the above, Billy can be really insensitive at times when it comes to the feelings of other people, and it shows through some of the careless remarks he makes or the dismissal of the concerns of his friends; when Teddy attempts to save the Super Skrull during the invasion storyline he angrily brings up the fact that the aforementioned Skrull murdered Teddy's adoptive mother. He's quick to backpedal, of course, but it doesn't change the fact that he doesn't always think about what he's saying before he says it. He even slips in a little racist commentary with phenomenally bad timing, eg. saying the Skrulls are "not even people" to Teddy, who is half-Skrull himself. It's not to say that he is intentionally racist- he's later shown to say that Teddy's half-Skrull heritage is "cool", but even so: careless remarks are not unusual, coming from him. He also has a pretty lousy temper and a tendency to rage quit when he hears something he really doesn't want to hear. Very few people can get him to stop and think about what he's doing beforehand, Teddy being one of them. He's also pretty sarcastic, making the occasional snippy commentary even at the most unfitting of times.

"Let him go, or yours will become a suicide mission."

He is very protective of his teammates and the people he cares about, and he's not afraid to use his rather extensive powers to keep them safe and alive when he's around. Case in point: stopping a nuclear explosion and putting twenty people in a coma with a single thought when Teddy is injured by one of them. (...Actually a lot of his more volatile reactions stem from Things That Happen to Teddy. Don't screw with an overclocked mutant in love.) He follows the Avengers moral code of "don't kill" as well as his own values re: taking a human (or even alien) life, and the one time he does threaten to kill someone, he's very shaken up by it after the fact. Murder or even killing in the name of self-defense is something he keeps in mind almost constantly while in battle, particularly because he's packing a lot of power.

"Please don't worry. It's not like I'm planning to invade Latveria, confront Dr. Doom, and rescue the Scarlet Witch tonight. At least, that's not the plan."

He can be really careless about self-preservation sometimes; he's impatient about Getting Things Done and will too-often charge off into danger regardless of the potential consequences (eg. injury, danger, capture, a lecture from the boyfriend). He does have tremendous faith in his friends/teammates, so even while rushing into the aforementioned danger he still has plenty of confidence that they'd come and rescue him if he got in over his head. That faith in people often even carries over into people that he may not necessarily know well, but has a great opinion of: he's quick to defend the actions of the Scarlet Witch despite her mass-mutant genocide, justifying her actions as possibly having been possessed by some evil entity despite no evidence to back up his claim. He also believes in her (admittedly true) claim to not remember any of her history with the Avengers or her crimes. Because she's his mother and favourite member of the Avengers, he doesn't hesitate to think the best of her. On the flip side, he refuses to believe Dr. Doom's self-proclaimed good intentions in regards to the Scarlet Witch, assuming he's brainwashed her or placed her under a spell rather than genuinely loving her. In his mind, "good guys" can do terrible things and still redeem themselves, but it's harder to convince him that "bad guys" can be good.

"I've never really had a problem with being different from other people. It's other people who have the problem with me."

Even though he has a history of bullying and gay bashing from school, Billy isn't meek or easily intimidated. Thanks to the Scarlet Witch's encouragement before he discovered he had powers of his own, he learned to stand his ground even when facing insurmountable odds- not for his own sake, but for the sake of other people that he wanted to protect - and in the process, he discovered that he had the power to really protect people. In a way, it's because of her that he's a part of the Young Avengers now, and he's never stopped being grateful to her. At the same time, however, the accidental misfire of his powers nearly got one of his bullies killed, so he's had to keep that in mind since it happened. He does have a lot of confidence that his morals will carry forward into his abilities- since his spells are created by his wishes, and he believes that he'd never wish for someone to die, he doesn't worry as much as the others that he could be too powerful (or, even worse, end up like the Scarlet Witch).

"Now, would anyone other than Team Sociopath care to weigh in?"

One of the most solid things to note about Billy is that there's no pretense about him, no faking, no bullshit. He says what's on his mind, whenever it comes to mind, regardless of who he's talking to. He speaks freely with his friends, his parents, his heroes- he mouths off to Iron Man and Captain America and offers no apologies. No matter whose company he's in, he is himself, and they're stuck with his true self whether they like it or not. He still keeps secrets, of course- he's not a completely open book about everything. But if sometimes comes to mind and he knows that he can say it? You better believe that he will. Consequences be damned. ...And usually apologized for, after the fact. He's not totally callous or anything when he realizes he's done wrong, especially if he belatedly notices that he's hurt someone.

...Okay to sum it all up, Billy's basically a snarky little fanboy with superpowers. God help us all.

Orphen | Sorcerous Stabber Orphen

[personal profile] harmonia 2012-05-01 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Generally regarded as an evil-looking, egomaniacal, badly dressed magician, Orphen is a much better person than he seems. He tends to come off as rude and unfriendly because of how honest he is, and people usually dislike him for it. He is incredibly impatient with little tolerance for silliness and stupidity, and he is not afraid to let someone know when they’re pissing him off (though it usually doesn’t take much to get on his nerves anyway). Just ask either of his traveling companions! Majic comments that even though Orphen can be mean, his powers as a sorcerer are incredible, and he just can’t help but look up to him. Aside from being powerful, he’s also pretty smart. He’s familiar with a lot of his world’s legends and lore, so it’s no wonder that Majic is interested in him even if he’s a jerk. He isn’t opposed to sharing stories and myths (and even showing them off if the opportunity presents itself), assuming that he’s in the right mood, that is.

But Orphen definitely isn’t a bad guy. In the first season, he is driven almost entirely by his desire to save his childhood friend Azalie from her unusual fate, and he never passes up an opportunity to help someone in trouble along the way. Even if he’s just passing through, he’s saved people from bandits, towns from being burnt to the ground, and girls from giant, evil dragons. Although he can be harsh, he isn’t cruel—he doesn’t blame people for things that aren’t their fault, and he’ll always give credit where credit is due. He values his friends and acquaintances deeply, even if he doesn’t always show it, likely because he’s so used to not having many in the first place. In regards to his own feelings, Orphen tends to keep a lot of things to himself, but he is certainly not dishonest. If he doesn’t admit to having something on his mind, the way he acts will probably show it well enough. He’s definitely the kind of guy that closes himself off and broods, though he’s gotten better about it these days.

While Orphen’s magical strength originally made him feel like something of an outcast when he was younger, you’d certainly never guess it now that he’s an adult. He’s not exactly a show-off, but Orphen is incredibly confident in himself and his abilities. (He also thinks he is one handsome devil!!) He never thinks about something being too difficult for him, he just does it. Even when he was told that he could not save both Childman and Azalie, that it would probably be the death of him, he didn’t give up. He just kept fighting anyway, and naturally, succeeded in the end. Although he complains a lot, he never gives up on anything.

He isn’t really the best master, though. Majic’s lessons happen only rarely, and Orphen isn’t the kind of person to give false praise over tiny accomplishments. He tells Majic that setting a piece of coal on fire isn’t real magic, and that he’ll compliment him when he actually does something worthy of praise. Orphen might be a jerk, but he keeps his word, so when his traveling companions really do something to be proud of or something that he can genuinely appreciate? He’ll be honest and tell them just how well they’ve done. He isn’t really encouraging, but he recognizes accomplishments.

Of course, when Orphen isn’t fighting giant evil dragons or vengeful sorcerers, he’s a pretty laidback guy. In fact, “laidback” is probably an understatement—he’s just plain lazy. He’s always telling his apprentice that he’ll teach him magic “later,” and in the manga, Orphen is notorious for his attitude upon waking up in the morning. (So notorious that people refer to him as the “morning terror” or “catastrophe of the dawn.”) He’d much rather sleep in really late than set off from town early in the morning, and if there’s an opportunity for free food, you can bet he’s going to pass up cooking in order to take advantage of that instead. Why do everything when you don’t have to do anything, right? With no goal in mind, he’s content to just sit back and relax—he doesn’t seem to have enough opportunities to do that back home.

Castiel || Supernatural || Reserved

[personal profile] eggstasy 2012-05-01 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

A being hundreds of millions of years old is usually expected to have plenty of personality and lots of life experience to draw on, but not this guy. Oh no. Castiel spent the overwhelmingly vast majority of his existence following the orders of a father he'd never even seen before in near-blind faith. The host of heaven was conducted more like a military organization and less like a family, despite the angels referring to their fellows as brothers and sisters and siblings, and referring to God as their Father. Angels apparently didn't hold onto the same family values that humans do, that's for sure.

Think fundamental Christian community meets Navy SEALs. Yeah. That's pretty close.

As a result, Castiel acts every bit like the alien life form he is, and not at all like the human he's inhabiting. Angels haven't interacted with humans in over two thousand years, so he's a little out of touch with how humans behave and as such, acts a lot like a deer in a mansuit. Both comical and creepy.

As for his personality, Cas is at his core a soldier. More than that, he's an alien soldier. He was created with the purpose of being not much more than a soldier, so most of the time that's his default state. He's silent, focused, and thinking of any given situation in the same way a warrior surveys a battlefield before he or she jumps out with war axe a-swingin'.

And when I say focused, I mean like laser pinpoint focus. It's really kind of annoying; like the proverbial dog and bone, Castiel will usually run something into the ground (a plan, a concept, even an emotion) if that's what he's set on, and it's difficult to distract him from it. He's not a very flighty creature, though maybe amongst his brothers he could be considered as such. Angels aren't known for their willingness to change, after all, and Castiel decided to up and rebel against Heaven because he felt that things were wrong. Not a whole lot of angels even reach the 'questioning loyalties' part of that process, so that Castiel ran the whole gamut through and emerged from the other side a changed...man-thing is somewhat remarkable.

Doesn't make him seem all that human, though. He just doesn't get things.

More specifically, Castiel has absolutely no concept of what's considered polite conversation or behavior. He also only very vaguely has a weak grasp on the methods of bending the truth; he doesn't understand why humans do it, doesn't quite know exactly how to do it himself, and most of the time doesn't even bother with that nonsense unless Dean or Sam tell him it's necessary for whatever mission they happen to be on.

That sort of thing. (If you're interested, pretty much everything he does in this clip here explains exactly how little he gets about the merits of doing things the human way and how skilled he is at it. Quick answers: very little, and not at all).

Castiel also doesn't get pop culture references, which is regrettable considering the people he hangs out with the most love making them. It makes having a conversation hard when Dean (mostly Dean) is throwing out things about Bonnie and Clyde and Thelma and Louise and baseball terms and what is he talking about, Dean, focus. It's an annoying distraction and it's not as if Castiel doesn't grasp the general meaning of what he's saying some of the time, but one would think after a while Dean would come to understand that Castiel just does not understand that reference. Ever. None of the times will he understand them.

That isn't to say that Cas is incapable of adapting. Since rebelling from Heaven he's been cut off from Heaven's power, so a lot of his own powers have been diminished to what he can accomplish with his own hands and his own Grace (the life force and physical composition of all angels). Castiel doesn't complain, doesn't whine, doesn't hem or haw or wish for a better option, or at least he doesn't do it where anyone can see or hear or even guess that he's doing it. Whether it's because he wants to keep it to himself (likely) or because it's just not in his nature (also likely) or because he just hasn't learned how to yet (again, just as likely) isn't always clear. He's learning this emotions thing as he goes.

This, of course, makes Castiel hard to relate to. He has noticeable difficulty blending in, connecting with people not willing to make monumental effort to understand just what exactly he is and communicating with anyone who doesn't have the patience to fight information out of him. Castiel tends to be very close-lipped, because he expects people to already know what he's saying, because he expects them not to but trust that he knows what he's doing anyway, and because sometimes he just doesn't know that right, yeah, people need more information in order to do something.

Castiel still keeps his personal sense of justice and righteousness about him though, even in the furthest depths of his doubt. He believes in God, believes that his father intended very different things for Earth and her people -at least, at this point he does- and as such is searching desperately for him. He doesn't make long-winded speeches about hope, or try to cheer anyone up with his belief that God is alive and can help everyone, or do anything like that. In fact, considering most of the time he has to convince Dean that God is actually real, he seems much more defensive.

With everything Castiel does, though, he has a sense of urgency. Like what he's doing is of monumental importance, like the weight of the entire universe is on his shoulders. He feels guilt over his siblings' inability to understand, and he feels shame over not having changed his ways sooner. His drive is a combination of a sense of duty, a desire to protect his newest (and two of his very small pool of) friends, Sam and Dean Winchester and the need to change his family and set things right.

I DO FEEL THE NEED TO MENTION that Castiel's vessel has both a name and an identity; Jimmy Novak. He's kind of your average nice guy Christian dude, jaded by being possessed by an angel for years and such, but his existence inside that body is debatable and the only way he would ever even come into play is during an event. Or if for some crazy reason, someone in Luceti had the power to drag Cas out of his vessel, which I imagine is extremely unlikely. I CAN PROVIDE MORE DETAIL IF NECESSARY o/

[personal profile] no_compromise 2012-05-01 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

A talented and honorable soldier, Viral has made great strides in his understanding of the world and humanity in the years after Lordgenome and his empire fell. While still as arrogant and prideful as he was when he was a Vice Commander, his willingness to fight and his hotheaded streak have become overshadowed for the moment by his own psychological weariness. He is imprisoned at the canon point I will be pulling him from, and his only crime is disobedience of laws that he felt were morally unethical and unjust. His love of the fight is still there, but he’s learned and experienced too much for his glee in combat to be his default reaction in the current situation.

Just as when he worked under Lordgenome, Viral has his own moral principles that he holds to regardless of what he’s told or even what he thinks. His biases against humanity are still evident, although it is less about him seeing himself as superior and more about how disappointing their actions have been. He maintains his condescension out of pride, but is truly alarmed by how they have taken to treating their own people, and how they have become the same as the beastmen they sought to defeat. Forcing humans above ground is the same as keeping them below if they are unwilling, and Viral is unafraid to point this out to the first officials who are able to capture him when his Enkidudu is finally unable to continue the fight. Since the humans that wished to stay below ground had no protector, he became one for them.

One man, even a beastman, taking on an army is an act of reckless futility. He knew this and still did it.

It is very easy to forget about intelligence when faced with someone so obviously strong and beastial, but Viral is probably the only beastman currently left standing that knows most of the truth behind the how and the why of their creation. His most notable action during the war against Lordgenome, aside from his showing mercy to Simon and a wounded Yoko when he finally learned that Kamina was dead, was asking a question that Lordgenome hadn’t expected from one of his soldiers: why? As a final request before his execution for disobeying General Cytomander’s direct order to kill Simon and Yoko, Viral wanted to know why they had to keep fighting the humans. He wanted to know why they always picked themselves back up after being beaten down, especially since they would only face being beat down again. It made no sense to him.

His intelligence does extend to being moderately formal and even socially graceful when the situation calls for it. When General Adiane repeatedly beat him out of anger and frustration over General Thymilph’s defeat, he allowed it without question. At a point after the one I pull Viral from, he tacitly informed Team Dai-Gurren of his stance on the matter at hand upon his official acceptance in the organization. He didn’t ask for them to forgive him and forget the past; he wanted them to know that he was willing to put their prior animosity aside, and felt that he was speaking on the behalf of all of the remaining beastmen on the planet. The humans weren’t the only ones with their lives at stake.

His honor keeps him in line, his morals act as a compass that point him in a direction that he does not waver from, and his intelligence allows him to be rational when he does manage to put his pride aside. These traits combined with his determination and his own latent will caused Lordgenome to issue one final order upon granting him immortality. Live, and bear witness. Be a storyteller. Although Lordgenome’s intent was to have Viral tell humans for generations to come exactly why they shouldn’t rise against the beastmen, Viral has remembered these orders under the new regime.

To his knowledge, the only thing he has left to bear witness to is the effects of human stupidity, and the destruction of his world.
