Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Character

Name: Faith Lehane
Fandom: BtVS/AtS
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Time Period: AtS 2x1 “Judgment”
Wing Color: Red...like Buffy’s.
History: Here
Personality:

When Faith first arrives in Sunnydale, she seems confident, fun, and full of a couldn’t-care-less attitude. It’s a mask she wears well, but can’t maintain. As she settles into life on the Hellmouth, the cracks in her careful facade quickly become clear.

Above all else, Faith is desperate to be wanted and accepted. Growing up, she never really had that from her own family. Her father was abusive and later imprisoned for murder, while her mother was an alcoholic. Faith quickly learned how to pretend like she didn’t care about her home life, but her lingering bitterness comes to the surface while talking to Buffy in Enemies, saying, “"When I was a kid, I used to beg my mom for a dog. Didn't matter what kind, I just wanted, you know, something to love. A dog's all I wanted. Well, that and toys. But Mom was so busy, you know, enjoying the drinking and passing out parts of life, that I never really got what I wanted."

When she comes to Sunnydale, she seems to settle in so well that Buffy is apprehensive at first. Faith gets along with her friends, with her mother, and with the boy she was potentially interested in, too. But even though Faith is charismatic enough to be liked for her own traits, she has no real confidence in her place there. That self doubt causes her to worry when Giles, Buffy, and Buffy’s friends hold a meeting without inviting her. It makes her brush off Buffy’s invitation to Christmas dinner, worried that she’s only doing it because her mom told her to, before loneliness drives her to joining them anyway. And it makes Faith compare herself to Buffy constantly.

The first real seeds of doubt are planted when Gwendolyn Post arrives, claiming to be Faith’s new watcher. Faith is slow to trust, and worried about becoming attached to another guardian (her last having been brutally murdered by a vampire), but Gwendolyn offers her two things... seeming confidence in her ability, and a kind of camaraderie as a fellow outsider. It is Gwendolyn that plants the idea that Giles and Buffy are purposefully excluding her and Faith from their meetings, adding to Faith’s already significant insecurity. When it turns out that Gwendolyn was actually dismissed from the Watcher’s council and had been using them all, especially Faith, the sense of betrayal hits hard. Rather than removing the worry that Gwendolyn had planted, Faith’s confidence in her ability to judge people is shattered even further.

In the end, the persistent feeling that she’ll never live up to Buffy makes her stop trying. During one of their patrols, she accidentally kills a man...and panics. She’s so terrified of getting in trouble that she tries to blame Buffy and, when it doesn’t work, turns traitor and offers herself as an ally to the Mayor.

Faith never really wanted to be “bad.” She thrives off of being physical and violent, and her trust issues and history of emotional and physical abuse (at the hands of both enemies and people she should have been able to trust), means that she’s likely to act first and think later. What really drove her towards being evil was the fact that, in the Mayor, she found everything she’d been wanting.

However evil the Mayor was, his feelings for Faith were genuine. Working for him, Faith felt loved, useful, and wanted. She didn’t have to doubt that the Mayor was comparing her to Buffy or using her, except as the employee she’d offered to be. In fact, he even protects her from some of the harder jobs, at first, allowing others to go after her former friends instead of trying to shatter all her ties at once. He truly tried to protect her, and Faith loved him back (though she might never have admitted as much), as the father she’d never had.

Later, when she tries to reform her life, the only person left who will give her a chance is Angel. Unlike any of the others in her life, he knows what it’s like to try to rewrite his life, moving from monster to protector. Faith is fragile, still, and her hold on the “right” path is tenuous, but the deciding factor in her reversal isn’t all that different from her relationship with the Mayor. The Mayor’s approval and acceptance had her working for the bad guys. Angel’s approval and acceptance of her allows her to believe she can turn back around.

Her relationship with her mentors is definitely a balance between love and hate. Faith’s natural distrust and her sense of isolation makes it very difficult for her to give control over to anyone else. She resists Gwendolyn Post’s appointment, completely ignores Wesley, and later develops a hatred for the Watcher’s Council that rival’s Buffy’s own dislike. Faith doesn’t like being told what to do, and she’s willful enough to make that very, very clear. This is only made worse by how many of her mentors have actually failed her or betrayed her. Gwendolyn, Wesley, and the Watcher’s council all betray her at various points, writing her off as foolish, stupid, or unsavable. To make matters even more complicated, the only two mentors she truly felt safe with were brutally murdered - her first watcher by Kakistos, and the Mayor by Buffy.

Whichever side she’s on, one thing doesn’t change: Faith truly doesn’t like herself. When Willow tells her that she’s screwed up everything and doesn’t deserve forgiveness, Faith can’t just shrug it off. She attacks Willow, saying “You hurt me, I hurt you. I’m just more efficient.” Later, when she receives a post-mortem gift from the Mayor, she has the opportunity to escape her life entirely. She steals Buffy’s body, leaving Buffy to take the other slayer’s penalty, while Faith makes plans to run.

While she’s still in Buffy’s body, she decides to take advantage of Buffy’s boyfriend, Riley. The results are disastrous. Riley sleeps with her, not realizing that someone else is in his girlfriend’s body, but the genuine care and affection Riley has for Buffy is too much for Faith to handle. She nearly breaks down, pulling away from him and very nearly fleeing in panic. And when she finally faces off with Buffy again, she violently attacks her former body. She takes out her dislike of herself, shouting at her old body as she does, calling herself “disgusting,” “nothing,” and a “murderous bitch.”

Faith’s low self-esteem makes relationships...complicated. She’s well aware that she’s attractive and, more often than not, she uses that to her advantage. She dresses in tight, form-fitting clothes, she flirts shamelessly, and she’s incredibly casual with sex. She writes men off as useless (except for one thing), calling them all dogs. But Faith’s sexuality isn’t as casual as it appears. Linked in with betrayal she’s suffered from other sources, she doesn’t expect that men really could want anything else from her. Rather than looking for more and getting burned, she shortens what she sees as an inevitable process, using men and then ignoring them once she’s done with them. When someone does try to get close, as with Riley or (later) Robin, the intimacy panics her.

Whether Faith is good or evil, there’s no question that she’s not exactly the most stable Slayer ever. The circumstances she grew up with never really prepared her with coping skills for difficult situations, and the added pressure of super strength and an unavoidable destiny was enough to make her crack. Faith has a bit of a victim mentality...which has dangerous repercussions now that she’s strong enough to dominate most people around her. It allowed her to justify a lot of the horrible things she did, blaming it on people using her or not living up to the people they should have been. When Xander tries to come and talk sense into her, she very nearly kills him before Angel stops her. And, in season one of AtS, she tortures Wes mercilessly while waiting for Angel to find her, hoping that showing how evil she is will get Angel to put her out of her misery. While doing so, she lays the blame at Wesley’s feet, wondering out loud if this would still be happening if he’d been a better Watcher.

Angel’s refusal to kill her and his insistence that she could be a better person allows her to try to start over, but it’s a struggle. She still deals with insecurity and violent impulses, but she really doesn’t want to let him down. She eventually turns herself in, handing herself over to the police to keep Angel from getting into trouble, and she stays in prison, even though she’s more than capable of breaking out.

Strengths:

  • Physical:
  • Slayer strength and speed. Slayer healing.
  • Mental:
  • Faith isn’t really the schooling type, but she’s very street smart. While she can be manipulated (as with Gwendolyn Post), she’s actually pretty decent at judging people...at least as far as determining whether or not they’re a physical threat. While she’s not the best of the best, she does know how to think fast and judge the situation around her. It’s how she’s stayed alive as long as she has.
  • Emotional
  • While it’s possible to crack, Faith really does do well at maintaining the devil-may-care attitude. Especially now that she’s trying to do the right thing with her life, she’s got a better handle on her emotions and is a tiny bit better about not letting people immediately under her skin.

Weaknesses:

  • Physical:
  • Magic and weapons will hurt her as much as most humans. She just heals faster than most. If a wound would normally be instantly fatal, it’ll kill her too.
  • Mental:
  • Academically, Faith dropped out of high school. She’s not dumb, but she is likely to miss references that might be more obvious to someone who had finished their education. She’s also prone to being manipulated. Because she’s so desperate for acceptance, she’s more likely to miss waring signs when dealing with someone who is both dangerous and charming. She can identify smarmy people, but people like Gwendolyn or the Mayor (who are either genuine or very good at faking), can fool her.
  • Emotional:
  • Faith has a horrible temper...and she’s not always the best at handling stressful situations. She has a complete breakdown when Kakistos shows up in her apartment and is only saved by Buffy. She steal’s Buffy’s body from panic and jealousy, and later brutally tortures Wes to try and get Angel to kill her. While she’s doing better, she’s still not 100% in the coping department. She can also be goaded into things. While not necessarily the worst suggestion, she allows Robin to goad her into giving him another shot when he insults her sexual prowess.

Samples

First Person: [Faith plucks at the sterile white sundress, giving it a bit of a distasteful look as she addresses the journal] You know, I was getting pretty sick of the jumper and all, but if this is the price of freedom, I think I’d rather go back behind bars. What’s a girl gotta do to get some decent clothes around here?

[there’s an uncomfortable pause, before she sighs. Right. Might as well get it over with] Not that I ain’t grateful for the jailbreak and all, but... I wasn’t really looking for a ‘get out of jail free’ card. Part of the whole road to redemption, goody-two-shoes spiel. Pretty sure the day pass wasn’t really part of the deal.

But, hey. If this is gonna stick, I guess I can’t complain too much. I’m not lookin’ for trouble. Just point me in the direction of some decent music and a stiff drink. Someone does that, I think this place and me will get along just fine.

Third Person:

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

The blunted sounds of contact were soothing, fitting perfectly with the familiar jolt through her arm as her fist connected with the punching bag. She didn’t bother with gloves. The skin of her knuckles had turned red, the first signs of scrapes appearing, but she didn’t stop. The pain was soothing, too. It helped ground her.

You don’t know what evil is

Thud.

Thud.

The bag swung crazily from the impact of her blows, the chain protesting the movement.

This place wasn’t so bad. It wasn’t LA. Hell, it wasn’t even Sunnydale, as far as city life went. And maybe it was just another prison, but she could wear what she wanted and the food actually had flavor most of the time (if she didn’t make it for herself), so really, she couldn’t complain. Except this was Buffy’s town. Same as Sunnydale had been. Maybe even more so, because here she wasn’t hiding. Here, Buffy was one of the champions, ready to ride in and save the day and everyone knew it.

And Faith was...

Something else entirely.

I’m evil! I’m bad! I’m evil! Do you hear me? I’m bad! Angel, I’m bad!

Buffy seemed to know more about her attempts to reform than even Faith did...but it still felt wrong. Off. Like she was invading Buffy’s territory just one more time, and she was out of place. A loose canon. Undecided.

It was what she deserved, probably. Karma, or turnabout being fair play, or some other line of bull shit that they fed to you during group sessions about facing consequences. So maybe it was just part of the process.

Didn’t mean she had to like it.

Thud.

Thud.

Crash

One particularly fierce punch, and the protesting chain gave way. The bag wobbled in mid air, almost like it was surprised to suddenly be freed from its support, before crashing to the ground. Bits of ceiling and drywall dust sprinkled down, making Faith grimace as she stepped back, holding her bruised hand. She considered the damage, face impassive, and then... “Damn.”

She left the bag where it had fallen, and headed out to the village proper. She needed a drink.

Sapphire Birch | Pokemon Special | Reserved

[personal profile] holofluff 2012-05-08 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:  Sapphire is a young protagonist in an action series. Being a girl, she doesn't follow the standard shounen-hero mold to the letter, but the basic elements are there - a hot-headed temperament, the power of raw determination, a heroic streak, and a tendency to do foolish or socially inappropriate things. She has a very loud and boisterous presence, and her vivacious energy is evident in her speech and body language - she doesn't just walk, she bounds and leaps and climbs, and her (horribly accented) voice is full of audible exclamation points. She's idealistic and generally a happy, enthusiastic person, willing to approach just about anyone with exuberant friendliness and always ready to help people who need her strength and combat skill.

Sapphire practically grew up in the forest, and isn't bothered by dirt and mild injury - she's a rough-and-tumble girl who grows her nails long, wears clothes made of leaves when she can, and brawls with her chicken-monster best friend for practice and fun. She also has the knowledge base appropriate of such a lifestyle - she's clever and intuitive, noticing things in her environment and using her situation to her advantage in battle, but is a horribly poor reader, doesn't have much patience for non-hands-on learning, and is entirely unfamiliar with city life and typical...decorum, I guess. She's acrobatic, strong as hell, and does a lot of moving around on four feet. Sapphire also has a good understanding of animals (Pokemon) - she doesn't talk to them or see them as equivalent to humans, but she understands their behavior as a function of their environment, and can deduce their motivations based on what she knows about the creatures she's familiar with, able to tell when they are sick or hungry and figure out their natural skills with clues from their anatomy and actions.

In addition to the exuberant, wild energy shown on the outside, Sapphire has a lot going on behind the scenes. Her passion for battle and in-your-face temperament aren't innate traits. Up until she was about six years old, Sapphire was, as she puts it, "girly" - still friendly and excitable, but a child who expressed herself with more gentle words, indulged in her fantasies of fairytale princesses by wearing dresses and cute clothes, and enjoyed playing with cute or sweet-hearted Pokemon rather than training them to fight. When she was six, a friend of her father's came from Johto region to take a Gym Leader qualification exam. He brought his son, Ruby, who was an avid novice Pokemon Trainer and nearly the same age as Sapphire. The two became good friends, and when Ruby's father had his exam, they went to explore and play in the woods. What happened next was the most influential event in Sapphire's life. The two children were attacked by a savage wild Salamence, and while Ruby tried to drive it off with his Pokemon, Sapphire could only stand aside helplessly. Ruby fought hard to defend them both, pushing Sapphire out of the way of the dragon's attacks, and finally managed to wound the Salamence and drive it away - but not before it had clawed at his face, opening two large wounds on his hairline. Sapphire vividly remembers lying terrified on the ground from the chaos of the battle, and bursting into horrified tears when Ruby turned to her to reassure her, his face covered in blood from his wounds.

In the aftermath of this incident, Sapphire changed almost completely. She felt guilt and shame over the incident - first for being able to do nothing and having someone else be injured while fighting for her, and secondly for being frightened by the aggression that Ruby showed. She began to train herself physically, accompanying her biologist father into the woods to assist with fieldwork and asking him for Pokemon that she could train and train herself beside. She began to change the way she interacted with people, becoming more assertive and aggressive. The new personality was not a facade - Sapphire genuinely grew to love being loud, strong, and tomboyish. Her "girly" appreciation for romance and cute things wasn't overwritten, and she will defend to blows her right to be a little feminine, but she does have a kneejerk reaction to things like frilly, impractical clothes, which revive a bit of her shame over having not been emotionally resilient during the Salamence incident. Her biggest lingering issue with the whole incident is her need to be able to take care of herself and others. Sapphire absolutely does not want people fighting on her behalf, especially in actual physical fights. She is terrified of someone getting hurt for her sake again, and does not like being "protected" or kept from a battle she wants to be involved in. Sapphire has nothing against being a team player, but defaults to fighting solo (as "solo" as a Pokemon Trainer can be), easily accepting help from allies but only asking for it in dire straits.

Sapphire is young, and it shows the most in how she reacts to other people. She has a habitual respect for her elders, speaking to them as messily as ever but toning down her energy and addressing them more formally than usual. That respect is multiplied in a student/teacher or junior/senior situation, regardless of the superior's age. Sapphire is open to learning from other people, either from their direct instruction or by imitating what they do, and easily defers to a more experienced party as a leader to take orders from. One thing she really doesn't have any experience with is children younger than herself, and she has played the role of a student and junior, but never that of a mentor. She sees herself as someone who has a lot to learn, but is proud of what she already has learned and of what she believes is a great potential to be stronger and more capable.

Sapphire has a very competitive nature. Like many others from her world, she sees competition as a way to gauge someone's worth - not just in whether they can meet the goal or not, but in how they go about meeting the goal, how much effort they put in, and how they treat their opponent. She expects others to pay the same attention to her, and throws herself into any kind of task, challenge, or contest as though she's being graded on her performance. She's not just showing her capabilities to onlookers when she does this, but proving to herself that she can meet all of her own expectations.

Her time as Ruby's friend has removed most of her scorn for people who enjoy the "girly" things she edges away from, and Sapphire doesn't begrudge any civilian or trainer for not being strong. But she tends to get annoyed with people who don't try, whether their wasted potential is in physical strength or emotional strength or any variant on the idea, and Sapphire is personally offended and infuriated by people who have the abilities or resources to solve a problem and choose to ignore or run away from it. To her mind, that's just as bad as causing the problem yourself.

Personality: Ruby is a hat wearing twelve year old pokemon protagonist. But how he behaves makes him rather unique among this class of trainers. To put it in layman’s terms: The way he normally behaves, Ruby could give Sassy Gay Friend a run for his money.

He loves fashion, cute things, and isn’t afraid to tell someone if their ensemble clashes. He’s highly opinionated when it comes to these things, often putting him at odds with foil, Sapphire. Even at the end of Ruby and Sapphire’s very first meeting, after treating wounds on Sapphire’s unconscious body… Ruby proceeds to modify an extra set of his clothes for her. He leaves a letter with the clothes instructing to wear them because he simply cannot stand the fact all she wore was palm fronds.

It’s these interests that make up his being, or at least that’s his aim: It was originally (and arguably still is) a persona. When he was younger, he was essentially everything he’s not now. He loved pokémon battling and playing rough: in the flashback there were rips in his clothing, and he had scratches from his head to toes; he took care of his clothing so poorly that he even forgot to button his own collar. What changed him was his incident with the Salamence; (Also in the history section) Ruby had thought he’d permanently tainted his childhood friend with his display of violence. Distraught by the consequences of his behavior, Ruby adopted a persona centered on the opposite of what he was when he upset her; vowing to never let anyone see him fight again, and to walk the path of beauty instead. It worked, for the most part, but for a long time he jumped to the extreme other end of the spectrum of his old self: he became exceedingly vain and judgmental of any trainer who battles as a negative result, and only just now has he been showing signs of getting better about these things. Only tiny fragments of his original personality remain today– when pushed to battle, he’s still level-headed and confident in his battling skills.

Ruby doesn't handle stress well, and has a lot of trouble talking about things that affect him emotionally. He's the type to avoid whatever is bothering him for as long as humanly possible as a coping skill. Aside from his reluctance to admit why he truly doesn't like battling, Ruby had also once told Sapphire he had a crush on her. Unsurprisingly, he claims to have amnesia about what happened around the time of his confession when he's asked about it later on. There's strong evidence that he's lying: Mimi evolved and he could recall her coming back to him to Emerald, but not the confession; these events both happened around the same time. It's my head canon that he does this to avoid his relationship going astray with her again, and in his young naiveté isn't quite sure how to handle these feelings he's having toward the opposite sex. So he'd rather avoid the situation all together. Whenever he seems to avoid admitting something: it always seems to be out of fear of what others may think of him. Therefore, how he's viewed by others is very important to him.

Though rare to be seen, Ruby's a friendly boy underneath all the cattiness and vanity. There's actually quite a few instances where Ruby assisted people purely out of generosity. Like when Ruby accidentally lost the fish the swimmer was looking for: Even though the swimmer told him he could leave after fishing with him so long, Ruby refused and stayed into the night with him looking for the fish again. He also has a soft spot for pokemon; he'd bonded quickly with Zuzu after getting him, despite his odd appearance and snot covered face. Unfortunately though, because he tries to keep to his vow so thoroughly, people have been known to mistakenly label him as selfish. Poke Criminals attacking? “I don’t wanna help”. Helping defeat a Seviper? “Fighting will give my pokemon ugly muscles.” In truth, all he was trying to avoid was frightening people with 'brutal side'. He doesn't want to lose his friends or his family like he did before, so he lies and makes excuses for his pokemon to cover himself. Only very very late into the RuSa arc, after almost losing his pokemon and helping a blind boy find his Magicarp with Ruby's pokemon's skills did Ruby realize that beauty is more than just appearances, and that he can actually use his battling skills to help others instead of hurting them. Further into the story in the emerald chapter, he even seems to get over his fear enough to agree to battle with his fellow dexholders to protect Jirachi and the people on the Battle Frontier.

Personality:
To most of those who see him, Gai Tsutsugami is the perfect leader: fearless, intelligent, charismatic, and confident, bordering almost on arrogant at times. This is a man who thinks nothing of addressing a group of thugs with "greetings, my deceased fellows" by way of a greeting, then going on to explain that they're all dead because the current situation doesn't allow for their survival before promptly taking several of them out single-handedly without even so much as a weapon at his disposal. There is never a doubt in his mind that he is going to win against them, and this confidence both inspires his men and fills his enemies with fear.

This confidence goes hand-in-hand with Gai's intelligence as well, and in fact is likely partially derived from it. Gai is nothing short of a tactical genius, able to come up with and execute complex plans for things such as breaking into a facility and destroying a satellite control system that cannot be touched physically without shutting down. While part of this comes from his extensive advance planning (he thinks nothing of coming up with 140+ possible scenarios for an event and memorizing the proper course of action for every single one), the fact that he's able to change his plans on the fly when things don't go the way he's expecting is indicative of an extremely high level of intelligence even without said planning.

Of course, confidence and intelligence mean little in a leader without the charisma to back it up, and that's another thing Gai has in spades. He knows how to turn on the charm when it's necessary and is an excellent negotiator; as he tells Shu, "You can't change the world just by running around with guns." He's capable of negotiating deals for money and supplies, and not only that, the mere fact that he's running a resistance organization full of men who will follow his orders without question at the age of 17 speaks for itself.

However, for all of his charisma, Gai is also more than capable of being, to put it quite bluntly, an unrepentant jerk at times. He is a man who values hard work, but only if it leads to results. Failure is not acceptable in his eyes unless there are mitigating circumstances, and even then it galls him. He also isn't above using and/or outright manipulating people if it means that he can achieve his goals (it's revealed in episode five that he even went so far as to instruct Inori to feed Shu all of those "I belong to you" and "I want to stay with you forever" lines in order to lure Shu into joining Funeral Parlor). Gai is truly a person for whom the end justifies the means in most cases.

But what only Inori and Shu know are that his confident and at times cold personality is a deliberately constructed facade to allow him to remain an effective leader-- his "leader face," as he himself refers to it. As he tells Shu, he doesn't want to be this way, saying, "Do you think I can shoulder everyone's lives and not feel any of the weight? I don't want to be indifferent. I want to be worthy of everyone's feelings." What Gai truly wants is to be a person who is worthy of the sacrifices that so many people have made for the sake of his goals. When things don't go well, he doubts himself and even wonders aloud just what he is doing everything for.

Not that he would ever give up, however-- he's nothing if not determined and stubborn as hell. But what drives him is not what most people immediately assume it is-- that is, the liberation of Japan from the GHQ. Yes, that's a part of what he wants, but at its heart what he desires most is to find and save Mana Ouma, the girl he loves, whose soul is being kept as a prisoner of sorts by the GHQ as she was the originator of the Apocalypse Virus that very nearly wiped out Japan ten years prior. Ultimately everything he is doing is for her sake, the cross he wears at all times (which formerly belonged to her) a constant reminder of his goal.

But for all of his outer bravado and seeming nonchalance, Gai possesses a hidden soft side as well, though it usually only manifests itself around Shu and Inori. The moments don't tend to last long, and they're often somewhat awkward (particularly when directed at Shu; his way of showing that he's worried about Shu is through phrases such as "You're as dense as ever" and "This is why I can't leave you to your own devices"), but they're proof that he does care about them in his own way. He just isn't very good at expressing it.

It's also worth noting that Gai's personality has changed drastically from when he was a child. It was Shu who was the bold one while Gai (then "Triton") was quieter and more timid; Gai admired Shu and wanted to be more like him. That combined with his desperate desire to become stronger in order to make up for being unable to help Mana during the first Lost Christmas is what shaped Gai into the person he is today.

Strengths:
Physical: Gai is in peak physical condition: he's strong, fast, and an excellent martial artist who is capable of taking out a group of thugs with nothing more than punches and kicks. He's also a skilled marksman familiar with multiple types of guns (rocket launchers included), though his weapon of choice tends to be a handgun. Given that he's able to run around and fight despite suffering from severe Apocalypse Virus symptoms and a serious wound in episode 12, he's got one hell of a pain tolerance and crazy stamina as well.
Mental: Gai is incredibly intelligent, both when it comes to tactics and to reading into situations. He can always figure out what the best course of action is for a given situation and then take it without hesitation-- this is the only reason the mission in episode 4 ended up being a success despite Shu and Inori both messing his original plans up. He's also stubborn as hell and is pretty much the definition of a Determinator: when he sets his mind to something, the only thing that will be able to stop him is death. And then there's that confidence and courage. Boy has balls of ADAMANTIUM. He's so confident that his plan will work out that he just stands there without even blinking as dozens of missiles are fired right at him. (For the record, it does.)
Emotional: When it comes down to it, Gai has no problems setting aside his emotions to do what needs to be done. He is cool, calm, and logical in nearly every situation; never once, not even under duress, does he lose his head or let his feelings interfere with his decision-making process. This is part of what makes him such an excellent leader. At the same time, he cares for his men and is willing to put himself on the front lines during missions, even at the cost of injuries or possible death for himself. He's a leader capable of being cold when the situation requires it, yet he is far from being heartless, and this is part of what has earned him the loyalty of his men.

Weaknesses:
Physical: For all of his fighting prowess, Gai is a normal human without any special powers (save for his ability to see Voids) and thus is vulnerable to illnesses, injuries, and anything else that would affect a human. In addition, he suffers from the Apocalypse Virus, and while the progression of the disease will be halted in Luceti, he will still have to deal with flare-ups of the symptoms every couple of weeks until he can get a blood transfusion to temporarily suppress them again. While it never gives exact specifics of what those symptoms are, from what we can see in canon it leaves him weak and shaky and in considerable amounts of pain.
Mental: Gai is stubborn and proud, qualities that both serve him well as a leader but also make him very reluctant to accept help when he needs it. He's the leader, he's the one who shoulders all of the burdens that it entails regardless of how much it hurts him on an emotional level. And it DOES hurt him; he just keeps that part hidden from everyone else. When Shu says that he'll help Gai in episode 6, rather than thank him for it, Gai's response is a simple "You're a fool;" at the end of the episode when Shu goes looking for Gai, he seems surprised that Shu even bothered, asking "Why are you here? One sinner is plenty." He's terrible at allowing anyone else to help him or see him in a vulnerable state at all.
Emotional: Gai's background has left him with a distinct lack of the ability to connect with people on a normal social level. Sure, he's good at putting on a mask to play whatever part is needed of him at the moment, and he is genuinely charismatic as a leader, but when it comes right down to it, he's just not that good at relating to others on a personal level. One of the ways this manifests itself is in the fact that he quite literally sees nothing wrong with using others to get what he wants. To him, that's just something that you do. It isn't that he's not empathetic - it's clear that he cares deeply about his subordinates - it's just that he isn't good at expressing it and in fact doesn't really know how, which can lead to him coming across as colder than he intends to at times. Take him out of a fighting situation and he is a social awkward turtle.

First Person: Q&A please!

Third Person:
The first thing Gai noticed when he opened his eyes was that it no longer hurt to move. Or, more precisely, it still hurt, but the pain had settled down into a dull ache centered between his shoulder blades rather than the outright agony that had been his final moments. Had those really been his final moments? He'd spent enough time contemplating the subject of death that he was fairly certain that things weren't supposed to still hurt after one was dead. A quick investigation of that pain revealed its source: a pair of feathery wings that twitched slightly when touched, still sore. Heh. And here I always thought the wings were just a figure of speech. This was hardly what he'd expected the afterlife (not that he'd ever really believed in that sort of thing) to look like either-- if anything, he'd been expecting a lot more clouds and pearly gates and less forest.

Still, he also found he couldn't be bothered to care about that fact either. For perhaps the first time in years, Gai Tsutsugami felt... content. At ease. He'd finally accomplished what he'd dedicated the last ten years of his life to, and Mana could rest at last. She'd even had enough consciousness of her former self at the end to address him by his old name. It may not have been a typical happy ending, but it was the happy ending he'd been striving for, and for him, that was enough.

A soft smile found its way to his lips as he considered his one slight regret-- that he hadn't had more time to spend with Shu after his childhood best friend had finally remembered everything. Knowing Shu, the other would be beating himself up over that right about now. But with those regained memories had come a new strength that Gai had borne witness to there deep beneath Roppongi Fort, and that was enough to reassure him that his friend would be all right. He had Inori there with him, after all. In the end, she too had chosen Shu, and perhaps that was for the best.

For a life cut so short, Gai didn't really have many complaints. And if this... whatever this was happened to be what awaited him, then he'd deal with it too the same way he'd faced everything that life had thrown at him: head-on and without backing down. He never was very good at following other peoples' orders.

Anko Mitarashi | Naruto | Reserved - Pt. 2

[personal profile] dangodiva 2012-05-08 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Anko is...kind of crazy. More often than not, she's loud, outspoken, usually to the point of being obnoxiousness. Anko finds no reason to cushion her words, or to be anything but blunt and to the point. She prefers to do things how she wants them to be done, with her own quirky mix of playfulness and goofiness. Think of a kid running around on a sugar high, but embodied in a busty woman with a penchant for fishnet. That's Anko. Usually. She's also like a child in her extremely short-temper, and how quickly it can turn, much to the misfortune of anyone in the nearby vicinity.

But beneath that, there is much more to Anko than meets the eye. While she may act the fool, she's also very intelligent, something most might be surprised to realize if they bothered to look past her outward actions and appearence. Orochimaru wouldn't have played mentor to anyone who was anything less, and giving that he taught her so much, forbidden techniques included, it only gives further credence to how under-appreciated this aspect of her is. She was his pupil as much as she was his guinea pig, and she absorbed all that he would teach her. He trusted her with the finer points of his research after they left Konoha, and was constantly preparing her to take on more and more as he molded her into a perfected student, and later, the first test subject to be successfully branded with the Curse of Heaven Seal.

Another thing to point out would be Anko's sense of loyalty. As Orochimaru's questionable activities were found out and he was forced to abandon his facilities within Konoha, Anko left with her teacher. She shared his exile for a number of years before his betrayal, continuing to study under his tutelage, trusting in him completely. It was only after he admittedly lost interest in her after being the only one out of ten original test subjects to survive his branding of the Curse of Heaven Seal, and the knowledge that she did not share in his desire for endless power, did Anko take her leave and return to Konoha. There she has remained, and served her village faithfully. She never forgot the kindness of the Third Hokage in accepting her back, despite Orochimaru's taint that would always tarnish her, and has since given her all in repaying that kindness in her unfailing devotion to her village.

Strengths:
Physical: Anko comes with all of the above-average combat skills that a Jounin possesses; accelerated speed, hand-to-hand combat training, weapon training (most notably for Anko, kunai and senbon) and quick reflexes.
Mental/Emotional: Anko's intelligence is one of her biggest strengths by far, even if it isn't flaunted as much as brute strength, or ignored all together for the immediate satisfaction of killing something dead, or at the very least, causing a significant amount of pain. She also seems to relish any sort of fear she can instill in the unwitting victim, such as she did with Naruto prior to the second stage of the Chuunin exam.
Special Abilities: Note: For sake of ease, abilities are listed in an English translation rather than their romaji counterparts.
- Hidden Shadow Snake Hands/Many Hidden Shadow Snake Hands: Pretty much what the name is. The ability to shoot a snake (or snakes) out from her sleeves (position of her choice. Orochimaru was known to expel them from his mouth as well), to attack someone from a distance.
- Summoning Jutsu (Snakes): Anko was the first of Orochimaru's subordinates to sign a blood contract with snakes that would allow her to summon and use them as she might need them, mostly in the aforementioned technique.
- Twin Snakes Mutual Death Jutsu: A forbidden jutsu, the most notable of them that she had learned from her mentor, and one she had nearly performed in an attempt to put a stop to Orochimaru back during the first Chuunin exam. It's a murder-suicide technique that will kill not only a target, but also the caster once performed. Once the seal has been made with the caster and the target's combined hands, snakes will slither out and strike both people, injecting them with a deadly venom to bring about an instant demise.
- Various Fire Release Jutsu: A staple with most Konoha ninja, the ability to concentrate super-heated chakra within the stomach and releasing it through their lungs and mouths. Anko in particular is shown using the Fire Release: Dragon Fire Jutsu; shooting off a large fireball that hurtles along lines of cord or anything similar towards a specific target.

Weaknesses:
Physical: By far, the biggest weakness for Anko is the Curse of Heaven Seal. While it is inactive for the most part, Orochimaru could activate the seal to subdue her (as seen during the first Chuunin exam), or even being in close range of her sensei can cause it to wake, bringing about tangible pain. It remains to be seen if Kabuto with Orochimaru's chakra and DNA has a similar effect, considering his current ploy of leeching away Orochimaru's chakra that still lingers within her seal.
Mental/Emotional: Even as her perseverance is a strength, it is still a sensitive subject, and one that can be manipulated. The stigma of being a subordinate under probably the greatest known traitor of Konoha is one that will follow Anko until the end of her days. It's a heavy burden, regardless of the typically cheerful facade that can be attributed to her. It's not something that she or her fellow shinobi can put aside, considering that nearly every techinque she knows and even right down to some of her mannerisms can be traced back to her sensei. No matter the smile on her face, it's hard to put aside the unease she can sense from others, or if there is any question of her loyalty from fellow shinobi.

Character

Name: Princess Mi Amore Cadenza - "Cadance"
Fandom: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Gender: Female
Age: ... She's a pony princess without a supplied age, ok. Given her behavior and teenageriness when babysitting tiny Twilight Sparkle, however, I'd guess her to be about 30 in human years. No telling what it would be in-universe.
Time Period: Before her wedding, [shortly before Twilight Sparkle is imprisoned in the caves with her by the Changeling Queen Chrysalis].
Wing Color: Alternating feathers in three shades of blue, like the mane of her twu wuv, Shining Armor.

...or just "Cadance" is fine... ♥

[personal profile] authenticity 2012-05-08 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Cadance is, above all other things, one of the kindest, most loving, friendly, and humblest ponies you will ever meet. Why shouldn't she be? She's a princess of a land where friendship is literally magical and, fortunately, where being royalty certainly doesn't mean you are out of touch with being a good person.

And yet, Cadance goes above and beyond this. Although she is a princess, she thinks nothing of 'foalsitting' a 'regular old unicorn,' and even goes as far as insisting that young Twilight Sparkle is anything but extraordinary in her own right. At her core, Cadance adores making others feel good about themselves and has an invested interest in making sure those around her are existing in harmony. Like most unicorns, Cadance's inherent magic is strongest in a particular area; hers happens to be in the realm of love. She is explicitly shown using her magic to strengthen the bonds between other ponies, stopping a disagreeing couple mid-argument; coupled with her caring personality, she literally spreads love wherever she goes.

All in all, it's safe to say that Cadance is not at all like the spoiled brat her imposter would make her out to be. Again, even though she is a princess with a fancy name, she doesn't go by it, insisting "Princess Cadance is fine." She speaks to others with friendly, candid intentions, and deliberately seeks out fun even when planning her huge fancy wedding, regardless of what you'd expect out of a pegasus unicorn of royal breeding that the entire city of Canterlot and the kingdom of Equestria beyond it has their eyes on. Years later, she still recalls the goofy chant she and Twilight Sparkle would do when the latter was young.

And since this can't go very far without mentioning him, Cadance loves Shining Armor, and at the thought of losing him, her heart is broken. However, her love is not selfish at all- when the Changeling Queen is threatening to marry Shining Armor herself using Cadance's appearance, Cadance's concern goes beyond 'her' chosen stallion being taken away and her own feelings being hurt. In her part of the song spelling out her thoughts versus the changelings' plans, she turns to tears at the thought that someone might marry Shining Armor who wants to use him, who won't treat him right, take care of him, and love him for who he is.

Because of Shining Armor's predicament, we also see another important part of Cadance's personality: even after being imprisoned and abused, Cadance is still very much willing to stand up for what she loves and believes in, bravely exposing and then threatening Queen Chrysalis despite being recaptured. That said, although determined, she can also get caught up if what she should do is not immediately in front of her. Her reactions seem to lean on the "OH NO WHAT SHOULD WE DO" side of things- not to the point of falling over and shutting down entirely (she's still willing to try and does manage to come up with the idea to distract her hypnotized bridesmaids with a bouquet), but it is noticeable that she definitely needs help here and there when there's a problem involving herself needing to get out of trouble. In this vein, she also possesses a bit of one-track mind that can blind her to seeing the obvious, especially when stressed.

Strengths:
The obvious: Cadance is a freakin' unicorn pegasus princess pony - one of only three ever shown - and because of it has a bit of an advantage that goes even further than the fact that she's slightly taller than most other mares. Pegasus ponies in her world can not only fly, but also walk on clouds and manipulate the weather. Unicorns can use magic and, outside of spells and the like that one would expect, often do so on a daily basis to accomplish what a human might do with their hands as well. In full power, Cadance has the abilities inherent to both types.

Specifically, Cadance's special talent, reflected in the teal heart-shaped cutie mark on both her flanks, is based around love. She can magically make ponies stop arguing with each other-- literally. She can heal hearts and actually powers up Shining Armor with her love. Plus, given nobody raises an objection to Shining Armor describing fake!Cadance as using her magic to soothe his headaches, it's not a stretch to assume her powers extend into relieving physical pain as well.

Otherwise, given her royal status, this is a pony sure to be very well-educated, and likely has had training in how to govern as well (even though Princess Celestia and Princess Luna taking up the highest positions seems unlikely to change any time soon). Despite Shining Armor being busy protecting Canterlot, she's capable of taking care of the wedding arrangements herself (...or would have been, had things not gone awry with the whole imposter deal).

She's... she's also a cartoon pony and has a body that bends or behaves in strange ways- holding a hoof up to her face and flying despite her relatively small wings are both no problem. The ability to freak out people who aren't used to technicolor ponies yet?

Weaknesses:
.... She's a princess pony, which spending some of her teenage stage foalsitting her future sister-in-law aside, means she likely hasn't actually been out in the world, living day to day like most ponies would; for better or worse, she's been catered to her entire life. Not only that, but... well, she's used to living in a world designed around her own kind, rather than these funny humanoids that dominate the Luceti population.

Despite her pluses, she still isn't perfect, and is far from physically invulnerable. Emotionally, she seems prone to little fits of drama if her path isn't clear, and as mentioned, occasionally experiences moments where she misses the obvious (not using her magic to clear the way of the mining cart, nor attempting to get the changeling goo off her feet aside from physically trying to pull away).

She will also undoubtedly be sad when separated from Shining Armor. Sappy as it is, he is her one true weakness.

First Person: I STILL CAN'T SETTLE ON AN IDEA FOR THIS, JUST GIVE ME A Q&A FGSDGW.

Third Person:
At first, Princess Cadance had thought she'd simply fallen into sleep, weakened by imprisonment and downtrodden by still having no luck escaping. The place where she woke up was certainly dark enough to be the caves she'd been thrown into, and knowing perfectly well just how terribly hopeless her situation had become, she nearly just let herself drift off again despite the threat of nightmares...

And yet--

Heart fluttering in her chest, the mare pulled herself to her feet almost before she was fully awake, feeling dirt beneath her hooves as she turned first one way and then the other. The floor wasn't stone, the silhouettes around her too leafy to be crystal- this wasn't a cave... it was a forest! There were trees!

"Hello? Is anypony there?!" The words were out before she had time to think, tinged with relief for the simple fact that she wasn't trapped any longer... but not more than a few moments later, she found herself trying not to wince. She had never been in a place quite like this before, and it didn't take long for her thoughts to sink into uncertainty, her mind inevitably on that evil Changeling Queen and her usurpation of her life and Shining Armor's love. Was this actually her fault?

Furthermore, there was-- something-- tied around her, or... what exactly was this thing, anyway?

After a minute of more than a little bit of sore, awkward squirming, she managed to get the thing off, but even holding it in the air to get a better look at it, turning it this way and that, didn't do much to help her figure out just why it was on her and what its purpose was supposed to be, other than only vaguely being shaped like an article of clothing. Maybe if she--

... She paused, eyes widening at the sight of shadows on the ground, then turned in place abruptly.

Even through the trees, Cadance could tell that if nothing else, at least the moon was still hanging in the sky here. Wherever she was, it was sure to be currently under Princess Luna's watch, and by extension, Celestia as well. If she could just find somepony else, then maybe... just maybe it wouldn't be too late to put a stop to the mess threatening to overtake Canterlot. Trying her best to gather up jumbled thoughts, pushing aside the weakness still threatening to make her limbs shake, she looked for an opening in the branches big enough for her body as she spread her wings--

And squealed in surprise as the reason why getting off that strange garment had been even more awkward than it should have been... suddenly became all-too-evident.

Princess pony she might have been, but four wings was way, way too many.

Takashi Natsume | Natsume Yuujinchou | Canon update 2/3

[personal profile] returnthyname 2012-05-08 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Before trying to understand Takashi, you first have to know what kind of life he lived as a child because his childhood plays a big role on how he turned out.

Takashi was that one child that you would always see talking or doing something with someone that was never there, almost like an imaginary friend, but of course it was more than just an imaginary friend. His ability to see ayakashi and yokai (Japanese spirits) was something passed down to him by his grandmother, Reiko. Because the trait was never handed down to anyone else in his family, Takashi would always appear to be ‘creepy’ or ‘scary’ since people would always just see him running away or act afraid of something that wasn’t there . Even the children he went to school with would shun him and call him a liar when he tried to prove to them that an ayakashi was there. Eventually, his own relatives would become so scared of him that they would send him off to live with another part of his family so he never stayed with one family for too long.

Takashi as a whole has a lot of issues mentally, which have all come from this childhood of his. But even though he has problems inwardly, his outward attitude is much different than what someone would think.

Something that may sometimes come off as surprising, if you know his past, is that he’s very kind and selfless. He never holds a grudge against those who were cruel to him when he was younger nor does he judge them for treating him the way that they did. He’s not even mean to the yokai he so happened to despise when he was younger. In fact, he holds a strong desire to help them. Or really, help anyone he can, even if that means going the extra mile and end up putting himself in harm’s way, as long as he can make them happy in the end.

But of course this isn’t always a good thing. Because he can be so naïve and because he wants to be so helpful, he often ends up falling into traps or just dangerous situations in general. This making Nyanko call him idiotic or stupid for being too kind for his own good.

In a way, Takashi's childhood has made him a strong willed person in the end. Saying "when I was younger, I couldn't look at this but now I can." when he was referring to a photo of his parents, he, over time, has grown. Though his past and even parents can be somewhat of a sore spot to talk about, he can face what problems and people he went through in the past strongly.

”I guess he’s starting to rely on us a little.” - Taki

Because of how he grew up, Takashi has always had a lot of trouble trusting and just relying on people in general with his secret. Instead of going to people for help, he likes to carry the burden of what he goes through on a daily basis on his own. Not only to keep himself from being a burden to others, but to keep other people safe and out of harm’s way. But of course, when he is finally able to trust someone enough to share his secret with, he allows himself to rely on them a little when he needs to. But just a little!

”He said it was because he wanted them to stay smiling.” - Tanuma

Going about his whole life with people living in fear of him, Takashi only wants the friends and family he has now to smile around him. He doesn’t want to cause people grief or have any of his friends worry about him so he is often forced to lie about the things that happen to him. For example, if he were to be chased by a yokai and got dirty somehow, he would simply tell the person that asked what happened that he just tripped and fell. Lying isn’t something that is abnormal for Takashi to do but that doesn’t mean he likes it. But telling them the truth isn’t something he wants to do either. He believes that if he were to tell his friends or anyone close to him what he goes through daily, they would never stop worrying about him and they would possibly be put in harm’s way. He prefers for them to live in ignorance and be happy rather than know the truth.

Strengths:

Physical: Being an average student in a Japanese school, Takashi is well in shape. It’s actually possible that he is a much faster runner than most kids seeing as how he is constantly running away from yokai that chase him around. He can also punch and kick relatively hard, enough to push away a strong yokai.

Seeing the memories of Reiko, Takashi often sees spells she used to exorcise yokai, like how she got rid of the karime that had invaded Shigeru’s house as a child.

Mental/Emotional: Being strong willed and stubborn, Takashi uses these qualities quite often to get what he has to get done. He never gives up on what he believes is the right thing to do, no matter what other people say to try and stop him.

Weaknesses:

Physical: Though Takashi is capable of defending himself with simple punches and kicks, he is nowhere near as strong as his grandmother Reiko was, therefore he can’t fend off more dangerous yokai. When he is in grave danger, he is forced to count on Nyanko to save him as he can’t do it alone.

After returning a name, Takashi becomes exhausted and collapses on the spot. This often causes him to be even more tired during the day, as some ayakashi appear to him at night, and he falls asleep during the day because of lack of sleep.

Mental/Emotional: Takashi is the type of person that wants to help if he can do anything at all, even if that person happens to be an ayakashi/youkai and this can often lead him into trouble. In his attempt to make another person or spirit happy, he will put himself in harms way without thinking twice about it.

In a way, Takashi can be considered emotionally scarred because of his childhood. He has troubles trusting and relying on other people, even those who are close to him. He tends to keep a lot of his feelings bottled up and never tells anyone what's really going on around him so it doesn't worry them.

Personality

[personal profile] didntmeanto 2012-05-08 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: To a stranger, Liz wouldn’t seem like a very friendly or approachable person – and they wouldn’t be completely wrong with that assumption. Liz makes a habit of keeping people at arm’s length when it comes to getting to know her, and she doesn't really have much interest in making many more friends, either. It isn't that Liz dislikes being around people, but it takes a while for her to warm up to people, and the same goes for being able to trust new people (outside of the line of duty, that is). In that sense, it's easier to for Liz to try and keep a professional relationship with other people than it is to go for anything more than that. In her line of work, people can die easily and without much warning depending on what's going on. It's always tragic when people die, but it's easier to move on and keep going if she isn't familiar with them.

Liz doesn't hold back when she speaks her mind about certain issues, as well. If someone does something she thinks is stupid, she'll let them know and she won't bother with sugarcoating it, either. As far as Liz is concerned, the chance of some hurt feelings isn't going to matter very much at the end of the day. It's better to be blunt and to let people know exactly what's up than to dance around the issue and hope that somebody gets it.

Liz also has troubles with commitment and sticking with the choices she's made. Throughout her years working with the B.P.R.D., she ended up quitting 12 times so she could try to live a normal life. However, she always ended up returning because no matter how badly she wanted a regular life, Liz could never completely trust herself in the outside world. She's also acted similarly on a much smaller scale, as she frequently quits smoking before taking up the habit all over again. Liz is aware that it's bad for her, but it calms her down and that's good enough for her.

However, while Liz isn’t the most easygoing person, she certainly isn’t bad. There’s a sweeter side to her, although that mostly comes out when Liz is with her friends, or anyone else she cares for. It's easier for her to relax around them, joke around, and just be herself instead of The Burn Lady. Liz is a happier person when she's with the people she loves, and she appreciates them more than she lets on. If someone stays friends with her and cares for her in spite of what she's done and what she can do, it helps Liz with dealing with any loneliness she might feel. Even if she doesn't have a place in the normal world, there are still people out there that care for her. It usually takes a while for her to grow comfortable with someone new, but with enough time and effort, Liz can bring herself to trust someone enough to let them into her life.

While Liz may have friends to support her, she lives with a great deal of guilt and self-loathing, too. Accidentally killing her family and 29 other people was something she has accepted, but never truly gotten over. She killed the people that loved her most without even meaning to, and they weren't the only ones. So many people have died over the years, all because Liz couldn't keep her abilities under control. She considers it a personal failure on her part, and it's something she definitely hates herself for. People shouldn't have to lose their lives just because she's not in complete control of herself or her abilities. While Liz has since gained better control over her abilities, it's still something she'll probably never forgive herself for.

Still, even with all that, at the end of the day what Liz wants most is to be able to live her life peacefully. A life with no nightmares, no fear of losing control, and no world going to Hell. It probably won't happen, though, and she knows this. So, when she's in a good state of mind, she does her best to try and make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. If she can take care of business without anything going wrong, without somebody dying, then that's good. It may not be perfect, but it's something, at least.

Yuri Lowell | Tales of Vesperia | Reserved [2/Maybe 3 or 4, I was never good at math.]

[personal profile] onceaknight 2012-05-08 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Due to the nobility treating the Lower Quarter like the dirt on the soles on their really nice boots, Yuri has grown to be a cynical bastard who also speaks sarcasm very fluently. He gives off that he doesn’t have a care in the world, being calm and thinking highly rational in any given situation. Relaxed, one would say. But once you really get to know him better he’s really caring and would do anything to protect someone. He mostly comes off as a big brother figure, and will not sit there and watch if someone’s in danger and he’s right there. He has a sort of grudge for nobles, and honestly who can blame him? They abuse their power and it’s sickening to him, so he high distrust for any nobles. If you happen to apart of any military, no matter what rank you are or how special you think you may be because of it, he’ll talk to you like you’re no different from any other guy. He doesn’t really know how to show manners, unless given circumstances.

He also has a high habit of teasing people, regardless of the atmosphere around him. Mainly though, he’ll do it in serious situations just to ease it out a bit. Otherwise, he’ll just do it if he’s bored enough or based on if he’ll always get a good reaction out of you. He doesn’t do pranks often, but if everything is already in place and he puts two and two together, he’ll put you in a situation to where you’ll inevitably fall into it. Although, he’ll soften it up a bit afterwards by…teasing, but that teasing usually gives you a way out of embarrassment.

Yuri’s strong sense of justice will be called by some “out of whack.” His simple way of thinking usually helps with his type of justice. If a man makes people suffer and no judicial system punishment or just any punishment in general has been given, Yuri will deal with him personally, dirtying his own hands. If protecting the innocent people of Terca Lumireis means that he has to become a murderer, a common criminal, or a traitor in the eyes of everyone, then so be it. He’ll accept any titles given to him by society. Although, it’s always in the back of his mind, that if he keeps this up, he might slowly become exactly who he hates the most. It frightens him to a degree but he keeps his cool about it, keeping his composure straight and doesn’t let sight of what’s he’s trying to gain.

“You can only see Yuri truly happy when he’s fighting,” is something along the lines that Flynn says about Yuri. This is true. He really enjoys fighting, it gives him exercise and, it’s fun to him. It’s almost sort of like a hobby for him, if you were to name one.

Yuri also enjoys hinting to everyone that he can in fact; understand what Repede is ever saying to him. It’s never exactly known if he can or not, but odds are he guesses to his best ability and usually gets lucky and understood it right. He’ll also treat you just like family if you ever get real close to him. If you need advice or support you name it, he’ll be there to give. If you’re young and close to him, he’ll give you confidence and encouragement. There’s also the inevitable teasing but that’s just his way of showing he cares. A bit. Maybe.

He has a bit of a sweet tooth and has a thing for cat ears. Most indefinitely, his favorite dessert is crepes. He can also cook very well. Since he stayed at an inn in Zaphias, a lady who ran the inn taught him how to cook. Estelle was very pleased with his cooking skills when Yuri had to make food for her. One time, Yuri had made croquettes for the party and they were highly impressed. When asked what the secret was, he said “love,” causing the party to react very hilariously in Yuri’s opinion.

He has a dislike of compliments and people who are appreciative of his good deeds when he does them. He has this weird thought that he shouldn’t be thanked for whatever he’s done, to the point where he even gives Flynn credit for what Brave Vesperia has done. He’s highly uncomfortable when people give gifts to him and he doesn’t accept them when offered, unless forcefully given. He tends to get embarrassed a bit when people thank him to a high degree and slowly tries to get off that subject and go onto something else. Some would call it being a gentleman; others may just call it strange.

Strengths:

Physical: As lazy as he seems, he's also a quite the show-off. And there's no point in showing off something if it's not all that impressive. Yuri is fit and active, exercising as a hobby more than a chore. His Bodhi Blastia helps his fighting skills during battles, allowing him to use Artes that he didn't normally learn through the knights. Although he's good with a sword, he CAN fight without it, as shown in some of his Artes, like Brutal Fang (Mash that attack button for a flurry of fists to the face!). He can hold his own in a fight, even if the power difference is highly noticeable. He won't go down without a fight, and hell, he'd probably want to be smacked around a little anyway.

Might bring some more fun to the table.

Mental: He's a genius.

Okay, there's a catch. He's a genius only in the mindset of fighting. You can talk all you want about learning this crazy, crazy move that took years for you to master, if Yuri sees an example of it, chances are he'll pick up on the move if it proves of interest to him. In a matter of seconds. It's how he learned Fatal Strike from Clint, without him even knowing he taught it to him. He sometimes doesn't even need to see it. Give him some notes on the arte, and he'll learn it through trial and error, or just Wild Mass Guessing. (See: Tiger Blade.)

He picks up information easily and is also capable of noticing things others don't.

Emotional: It's really hard to break this guy. At the most, you can anger him, but it'd be a hundred years before you could break him. He doesn't let most things try to drag him down, and instead pushes forward. What's done is done, and we have to move on. He also can be pretty happy during the most darkest things, as Duke even comments on that during the final moments before the final battle begins.

Wing Color: Crimson (the color lightens as it gets closer to the tips)

[personal profile] endangered 2012-05-08 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: To some teaching a younger generation might not sound appealing, but to Kurenai it is a chance to give these children things that they lack in their everyday home life and help them become stronger individuals. She cares for her students deeply and will do anything within her power for them; even overstep boundaries and step into a place that doesn’t belong to her. Kurenai goes to the head of the Hyuuga clan when Hinata is placed into her team and takes on full responsibility for Hinata since she isn’t getting the attention or encouragement that she needs. This might have started out as a teacher looking out for her student, but as time passed it turned into something more; perhaps it brought out a maternal side that she never knew that she had. Yet, she wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

When she looks at Team 8 she doesn’t see a four man squad, but a family that encourages one another and does everything to ensure that no one falls behind. It seems that her students lack something in their everyday home life and she wishes to give them what they lack. To help nurture them into the adults that they will become and to have them explore their full potential without behind hindered by anything that might stand in their way. Out of all her students she has a deep fondness for Hinata; she knew the views that the girl’s father had on her and knew that it was wrong for any parent to view their child like that. She tries her best to be the parental figure that Hinata needs and is always rooting for her, even if she remains silent.

From a young age, Kurenai has shown a bravery that is found in every shinobi; to not back away from danger, even when your death could be in sight. While in her youth when the Nine-Tails attacked the village Kurenai (along with a group of other youngsters) wanted to protect the village. To do what they could (even if it wasn’t much) to repel the beast, but they were forbidden to do anything by older shinobi (her father included). This could be frustrating for a young person, to be unable to do anything because of your youth even when you feel that you are capable, but that is another discipline of the shinobi. When given an order you do it no matter how unsettling or much you dislike the task. The elder shinobi placed something else within the hands of the youngsters; to pass the Will of Fire on to the next generation.

As a shinobi Kurenai has been given many tasks that go against her moral standards, but because they were orders she had to abide by them. Such a case was when she was training a young girl named Yakumo Kurama, who was talented in genjutsu much like Kurenai, and longed to become a shinobi. Because Yakumo couldn’t control her illusions Kurenai was forced to seal away her abilities, keeping her from ever fulfilling her dream of becoming a shinobi. Because the young girls powers provided a threat she needed to ensure that she could protect everyone, even if it meant destroying the dreams of one individual.

Kurenai is a secretive person when it comes to certain aspects of her life. Letting people know that she is emotionally attached to someone is a difficult thing for her to do and it can prove to be a liability when it comes to the enemy because they can use that person against her. She already has her students as a factor that can be used against her and with a love interest on top of that it could break any person; even if they are the hardest of shinobi. That’s why her relationship with Asuma Sarutobi had been kept secret for so long. She didn’t want anyone finding out about it and using it against her (the teasing that would have come from that wasn’t appealing either, as indicated when Kakashi found the two together and teased them that they were on a date; it made her blush and she quickly denied them being on a date). Even if she tried t keep her relationship with him a secret there were many that speculated that there was something between them.

She had a hard time accepting things from people, often trying to give the item back to the person that gave it to her, but in the end she is thankful for the gift. When Asuma gives her the poppy seeds she tells him that she will kill them, but she fawns over the seeds, touched by the meaning behind them and cares for them. Accepting help from others is another hard thing for her to do as she is an independent person and hates to be considered a burden to someone. She often told Shikamaru that he didn’t need to worry about her and that she was find, but deep down she was thankful that he was always there because he helped to fill a void that she felt with Asuma gone and a strength to hold onto when she felt that she couldn’t keep going.

Character

Name: Princess Celestia
Fandom: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Gender: Female
Age: Never specified, but over 1000 years old
Time Period: Post season 2
Wing Color: White
History: Always go for the wiki pages.
Personality: As one would expect from anyone with the title of Princess, Celestia knows how to keep a calm, professional demeanor at all times. She’s served as one of Equestria’s rulers for over 1000 years and after playing the same role for so long, she plays the part very well; she sincerely cares for the well being of all of her subjects and does everything in her power to ensure that everypony is treated fairly and with respect. And after ruling her country with kindness and prosperity for so long, Celestia earned herself an unrivaled level of respect from those who’ve had the pleasure of living in her country.

She’s very well aware of how revered she is and as much as she appreciates how quick everyone is to bow to her as she walks by or treat her with the utmost respect and formalities, Celestia wishes that other ponies could ease up around her. One thousand years of praise is incredibly generous, but she would greatly prefer being more casual around them; in one occasion where she was paying Ponyville a visit, the entire town was panicking and rushing to make sure everything went smoothly for her party, going as far as topping off her cup of tea each time she took a sip. Playfully, she pretended to take a sip from her cup, only to have the town-goers accidentally overfill her cup, where she replies with a simple “gotcha.”

Re: Princess Celestia | My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Part 2

[personal profile] herroyalsunrise 2012-05-08 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
While things like that are usually harmless, she isn’t afraid of resorting to other methods of lightening moods and encouraging her subjects to enjoy themselves. The main example was during one very specific Grand Galloping Gala, a festival considered to be the greatest of the great parties in all of Equestria. Unfortunately, this greatest of the great proved to be the highest of the highbrow for the Princess to properly enjoy; after attending each one for the past millennium, she’s come to regard the Gala as “awful” because of how uptight the guests usually are. Knowing they would make the Gala exciting, Celestia invited Twilight Sparkle and all of her friends. Despite the destruction they caused being great, she was still able to share a laugh with them about the fun they brought to a celebration that needed it most.

Despite her playfulness, Princess Celestia is very capable of playing the role of mentor and guardian figure. As Twilight Sparkle’s teacher, she serves as the guide who tries to help the others as best as she can without directly telling them what to do; a good teacher helps her students find the answers for themselves, after all. While this may make her appear mysterious any mischievous to some, she only does so for the benefit of her little ponies.

She’s a strong believer in no one being able to change someone else except themselves…however, she also believes that sometimes, someone won’t always know the right way to go and need a nudge in the proper direction in order to do so. She views herself as the nudge everyone else needs. Whether it’s reassuring Twilight that she doesn’t need to send a letter to her every week, or if Princess Luna regrets turning into Nightmare Moon or even if Fluttershy shouldn’t have taken her pet phoenix without permission, Princess Celestia is the kind of pony who refuses to give up on a person. In almost every case, she’s willing to give a person another chance to make amends and do better. She wouldn’t be a fair princess of Equestria if she didn’t.

Strengths:
Physical: Her physical strength is never mentioned, but as a princess, she must look her best at all times. Rarely will anyone be able to take a glimpse at her and not see the regal princess she always is.
Mental/emotional: Incredibly adept at magic. In fact, her main ability is being able to raise the sun every morning and set it every evening. She’s also known to be able to do the same for the moon in her sister’s absence. And being alive for over 1000 years gives her more wisdom than any other pony in Equestria, with her sister Luna coming in second.
Weaknesses:
Physical: One can assume that in this respect, Celestia probably isn’t very strong. Maybe average strength or so, but not much more than that. As for her appearance, being so regal and professional might actually make her look intimidating to some, even though she really tries not to look that way.
Mental/emotional: Living 1000 years covers up most of what would’ve made for passable weaknesses, however that is still to say she has them. With her wisdom comes the idea that she has all of the answers; while the ponies could understand this, she could likely be interpreted as arrogant because of this.

Character
Name: Monkey D. Luffy
Fandom: One Piece
Gender: Male
Age: 19 (Technically 20 if you are counting Strong World as age!canon?); In Luceti he is about 23
Time Period: Chapter 672 while he’s passed out
Wing Color: White
History: Linky link

Personality:
At a glance, Luffy will seem like a completely reckless and blatant idiot. He rarely listens, charges ahead (most of the time) without thinking whatsoever, and he is incredibly stubborn and hates to come to terms with anything as long as he has his mind set on something. Sure, in a lot of ways these things are true, but he is a character who has a certain layer of depth you have to dig for to really understand. For example, part of the reason for his completely recklessness behavior is likely because of his dependence on his crew. He realizes that he cannot do everything alone, and tries to focus on what he IS good at and let the others be good at what they’re good at. And that is why he leaves a lot of the thinking to his crew. Meanwhile, he focuses most of his attention on generally becoming stronger so he can fight the main bad guys.

Despite his adventure-craving childish exterior, he takes the position of captain quite seriously. He doesn’t have ranks or order within the crew, or treats them like their beneath him in anyway, but he does appear to bear the biggest burden out of everyone. And that’s mostly due to his strong desire to take EVERYONE with him and not have anyone die during his journey to become Pirate King.

Now, as for his more noticeable personality traits, well that’s far simpler. Essentially Luffy is a rather simple-minded teenager who has a thirst for fun and adventure. He’s all about having fun and will take on any adventure no matter how dangerous it is as long as it leads to new awesome experiences. He’s incredibly loyal to his friends also. So much so that he would have no problem risking life and limb for a person he just became friends with only a while ago.

He isn’t easily intimidated, even some times going as far as to say one of his opponents moves or attacks are “cool” or “awesome” even though that person may very well have the ability to kill him. This is most likely due to his high self-confidence in his own abilities and the motivation he gets to go on from his dream to one day obtain the legendary treasure known as One Piece and become King of the Pirates… Or a more likely explanation could be that he’s incredibly simple minded. He appears to have a fascination with anything that happens to be “cool” or “awesome” and like a child; he can be impressed by even the simplest of things (Such as a laser beam).

Luffy also has a strong love for his close friends. This is evident by the fact that he says he wants to become stronger just to protect them, and uses the technique he names “Gear Second” to pump the blood through his body faster to obtain inhuman speed and strength. Lucci warns that this is not a wise thing to do because his body’s stamina can’t keep up and he’s hacking away at his own life. Luffy simply states that this is a more favorable outcome than losing his friends. He even happily agrees for his friends to be revived from stone without hesitation despite the fact that it would mean he’ll be trapped on an island full of Amazon women trying to kill him.

He has been shown to be very rude, exhibiting bad table manners and quickly eating large quantities of food, even when eating amongst royalty. Although Luffy isn’t the brightest light bulb in the bunch, he cannot be classified as a complete idiot either. It’s a somewhat rare occurrence, but Luffy shows signs of intelligence as well (Even if that “intelligence” is just common sense). Like when he tells Vivi, it’s useless to try and just stop the war, and that it makes more sense for them to go take on Crocodile. And how he always has to fight the strongest guy. A task he usually does alone even if his friends are right beside him and are in good shape. There’s a number of reasons to why he does this but two of the most notable seems to be that he first views it as his responsibility as the captain and second is that he doesn’t want them to get hurt. Just about every main fight he gets into is a life or death struggle with a very powerful foe, and as such he prefers to do it alone if he is able.

Because of his obliviousness and simple minded thoughts, his intentions and motivation are shown to be mostly pure, with little to no selfish reasons behind them. He wants to become the Pirate King, not for the power, wealth, or fame one will possess, but simply because of the fact that he believes the Pirate King will have more freedom than anyone else. Another benefit of his simple thoughts is that he doesn’t quite understand how much danger he’s in. The only thing that he concentrates on is defeating the enemy which has proven to be quite useful except for his battle with Magellan where he tries to defeat a man practically made of poison with pure blunt force attacks.

Although he DOES depend on his crew to do most of the immediate thinking on smaller things (Such as stopping him from destroying the ships coating and thus dooming the crew to drown; small things like that) he is more than capable of thinking when he’s on his own. When he was stranded on Amazon Lily, he needed to see the head person of the island in order to get a boat. So after thinking about it to the point of almost catching a fever, he decided to go to the tallest building because that’s usually where the head honchos stay. And it turns out he was right. He landed in the exact place Hancock—the empress of Amazon Lily-- was taking a bath.

After the time skip Luffy has remained more or less the same that he was two years ago. He still enjoys being with his crew, having adventures, and generally being the goofy silly guy he is. His horrible memory has also remained the same throughout the years as well. It has always been sort of a running gag that unless a person was a close relative or friend to Luffy (or was a major villain such as Crocodile) he would quickly forget about them and not be able to remember who they were the next time he seen them, even if it had not been very long ago. This still remains true even ‘till today as he was unable to recognize Mohmoo or even Perona when he sees their faces signifying that there will probably be a lot more people in the future he will fail to recognize as well.

Luffy’s attitude towards animals has changed just a bit as well after his training. He never seemed to have a huge opinion on them, but occasionally he would befriend one or two if they were particularly good individuals. Such a Biri from Strong World and Vivi’s companion, Carue. Aside from that though, usually a lot of the animals he run into he treats them as second rate enemies. Easily tossing or throwing them aside if they attack him (on rare occasions he might even talk to them in a similar manner he did Duval’s bull or Laboon). After his training however, he has grown a sense of dominion over most wildlife. Thanks to his Haki he can make most animals concede to him with only a stare. This is how he was able to become the “boss” of Rurukaina and even stated he regretted not eating the only three animal friends he made on the island because he thought they would taste good.

Personality:

Throughout her homeland of Arland, Rorona is a well-known, highly-respected alchemist - one of only four that exist in her nation. Having done so much for her nation, and especially after becoming a traveling alchemy teacher, one would expect her to be an influential, amazing person, right?

... Too bad she's almost the exact opposite.

Even as an adult, Rorona is a very childish person. She cries easily, she gets jealous quickly, and she can get very stubborn about the strangest things. Her outlook on a lot of things tends to be quite childish in general; many serious situations have a tendency to either go right over her head, or other times, leave her not understanding exactly what the problem is (a big example of this being when Totori tries to explain to Rorona the demon problem Frontier Village was facing, which left Rorona only understanding the basics of what was happening). Her childish behavior also leaves her doing things that would be considered a huge deal without explaining anything (i.e., using Pamela's doll body as a fake sacrifice to the Frontier Village demon without telling anyone that Pamela was nothing more than a ghost possessing a doll body), as well as causing her to do some very airheaded things that she has little to no excuse for (falling into a river and nearly drowning when she had items she could have synthesized to prevent that very situation).

Then, there's pies. Rorona absolutely loves pie, and especially loves making pies - sometimes to the point of getting way too extreme about the idea. In Atelier Rorona, she grew a little too obsessed with making new pies to the point where she was beginning to freak out those she was living with - her lazy, scary alchemist teacher, and a homunculus - and started to make pies that were more dangerous than edible (dark pie, ruby pie, meteor pie, etc). This obsession with pie crosses over very clearly into Atelier Totori, where the Chims she creates for Totori can only be "paid" in pie, and where she ends up making pie versions of every item she attempts to synthesize with Totori (along with terrible names for them, such as "medipie" for medicine-turned-pie, and "suppiement", for a supplement-turned-pie).

Thankfully, though, Rorona is more than her childish attitude makes her seem. As a very kind-hearted person, Rorona is always eager to help those around her in any way she can - something she's shown to do several times throughout Atelier Totori, such as when she (tries to) synthesize something for Ceci and Totori when they meet her for the first time, and when she insists on helping Totori find her missing mother (even though she herself is looking for her missing alchemy teacher). This may be a product of her line of work requiring her to help others (throughout Atelier Rorona, she had to take on various requests from townspeople), but given her personality as a kind, well-meaning person, it's more likely that she simply enjoys helping others. Rorona is also outright noted by other people within the game as a kind, easy-to-talk-to person (something noted specifically by Filly the receptionist), although her kindness often shows just how airheaded she can be, leading to some people having entirely different opinions about her ("She's kind of a pain in the ass", as said by Eksel). Adding on to her kindness, Rorona can also be a pretty big doormat - something shown all throughout Atelier Rorona, but only really shown in Atelier Totori when you convince her to join the village festival, especially after it's revealed that it's actually a swimsuit contest. Instead of getting mad about it, she only mentions being kind of embarrassed. Aside from that, she takes that situation and many, many other things in stride, not letting much of anything really get to her or bother her too much - unless it's related to a person she likes/wants attention from, or related to pie. However, it's her kind attitude and love for alchemy that led to the job she currently holds in Atelier Totori.

Even though she has a very, very high tendency to wander from place to place constantly, Rorona is an alchemy teacher in Atelier Totori. As she is a very highly skilled alchemist, one would normally think this would make her a fantastic teacher right off the bat. ... Unfortunately, she's an absolutely abysmal teacher. Instead of saying something along the lines of "Only use a pinch of this powder", she'll say "Just take a little and scatter it - like this! Scatter ..." - or, instead of telling someone to stir their cauldron at a certain speed or in a specific way, she'll simply tell them to take their stirrer and "twirl" it. It's no surprise that Totori - and later in the game, Piana - are the only people to ever understand her alchemy lessons. To make matters worse, she doesn't see anything wrong with her teaching style, even if she knows that she's a bad teacher. In the Rorona ending of Atelier Totori, instead of admitting she needs to change up the way she's teaching things, she just whines about all the students she's taken on only listening to Totori instead of her.

There are some other points about Rorona's personality that aren't too large, but are notable enough for mention. In Atelier Meruru for example (this being a flashback to during the time of Atelier Totori) , it's mentioned that she would sometimes up and wander off on her own a lot without saying a word - something that more or less adds to her childish do-things-without-explaining/telling-anyone behavior, but also shows how she can sometimes be a little unreliable. She'll also hang on to one word or one part of a sentence and ignore all other parts of it sometimes, causing her to freak out about something (i.e., when Totori asks if Rorona knows how to make liquor, and Rorona completely ignores the part where Totori says it's for someone else and not her, freaking out and wondering where she went wrong with Totori) until an explanation is more or less shoved down her throat. As two final notes, she nicknames pretty much everyone, only because doing so makes their names "cuter", and she can and will get into petty arguments about some of the silliest things (such as Totori being able to call Marc McBrine "Marc" before she was allowed to, and her desire to call the guy "Briney" - even though he had already told her no years ago).

So, in short, while a fantastic alchemist and a very kind, nice person, Rorona is a childish, poor excuse for an adult. Good thing she barely even looks like an adult, even according to others in the game!

Personality:

Vivi is so moe.

Well no, that's unfair. At the start of the game, Vivi is so painfully moe it almost hurts to look at him toddle around with his moe waddle. He stammers, he's meek, he shrinks back from confrontation, he lets people boss him around and he runs and hides at the first hint of danger. He's a very scared, very timid, very unconfident little boy. Despite having the ability to cast magic, not a very common trait, Vivi is still terrified of danger and of being hurt. He's- well, a kid.

As he travels with Zidane, Garnet and Steiner though, he slowly starts to learn how to stand up for himself. He starts to take more initiative, especially in matters that concern him and his origins, something he really wants to know more about. Zidane encourages him to stick up for himself and sprout a spine, and Steiner showers him in praise and respect so it's a little hard for him not to like himself. Garnet is affectionate and treats him like she'd treat any other child, which is nice. Vivi begins to experience the benefits of having friends, and comes to love them as he did his grandfather, Quan.

Still, though, even after everything he's learned Vivi is still a doormat. He would much rather allow himself to be bossed around than start a conflict, and unless he's directly involved he'll generally keep quiet in a heated conversation. He'll occasionally cave when confronted, preferring to hide away and protect himself than lash out or strike first. Very docile, this one.

When he loses his temper, though, it's kind of scary. Feet stomping, screaming, MULTIPLE EXCLAMATION POINTS!!! kind of rage going on here. Granted, it takes like...enormous, world-fuckery-level philosophical pain to get him to that point, but it happens. On super-rare occasions. So no, Vivi isn't a hopeless moeblob, he's just that way about ninety percent of the time.

When he's happy though, he's freakin' chipper. He jumps up and down, runs about, fidgets, begs Zidane to please can he please go look around, displays all the typical little-boy enthusiasm for things he enjoys. He genuinely likes talking to people once he gets past his horrifying shyness, enjoys trying new things and loves the company. He's a social little creature, kind and sweet and loyal. He could do with more of a backbone, but he's working on that.

Patty Fleur | Tales of Vesperia 2/?

[personal profile] madonnya 2012-07-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
History:
The party first runs into Patty in Capua Nor, where she is trying to invade Ragou’s mansion. In fact, she succeeds in invading it far before the others do, by throwing a smokebomb to distract the guards. They later encounter her in Ragou’s cellar, after she’s gotten herself caught in some sort of trap, and release her. As it turns out, the surveyors' guild "World's Cellar" has given her a few leads regarding Aifread’s legendary treasure, which Patty is desperately searching for. The rest of the party is shocked, as Aifread is a rather notorious name. The leader of the pirate guild Siren’s Fang, Aifread was supposedly responsible for something called the “Black Hope” incident, where many innocent civilians were killed. Patty decides to tag along with the party for a brief while, until the “Dragon Rider/Freak” breaks Ragou’s weather Blastia and they set off to pursue it. Patty parts ways with them at that point.

The gang encounters her once more in the forest of Keiv Moc, where she was ‘playing’ with a monster and continuing her search for Aifread’s treasure. While the gang offers to take Patty with them, it’s immediately proven that she can take care of herself just fine as she shoots a monster in the face. So they leave her be and carry on.

The third time she appears is while the gang is on its way to Nordopolica with Kaufman. Patty had gotten swallowed by a merman monster- again, ‘just playing’. As another of the monsters attacks Tokunaga, it’s up to Patty to navigate the ship. However, they soon run into a ‘ghost ship’, the Atherum, and decide to board it. In the bridge where they find the Clear Ciel Crystal, a mysterious monster (the wandering skeleton swordsman) appears before them. It seems to recognize Patty and retreats after the battle, leaving her a bit confused. After they reach Nordopolica, she leaves the party again. However, there’s another cutscene a bit later on, where Patty is buying items from a merchant by the docks. A random man comes up to her, asking if she’s Aifread’s granddaughter. After all, she dresses like Aifread and rumor has it that a girl has been going around, claiming to be just that. Patty neither confirms nor denies it, but the shopkeeper seems to think her silence is enough of an answer and asks her not to come by the store anymore. After all, Aifread was a traitor to the Guild’s beliefs for slaughtering the people they were sworn to protect. Yuri objects to the shopkeeper’s attitude, but Patty tells him not to get worked up over it. She then runs off.

They next run into her inside the Weasand of Cados, while chasing after Regaey. It’s at this point that Patty admits she doesn’t know for certain whether or not she is Aifread’s granddaughter, as she suffers from amnesia. She’s searching for Aifread’s grandest treasure, the Maris Stella, in hopes of meeting Aifread himself and regaining her memories. Patty decides to tag along with the party once more and has a quick talk with Yuri in Mantaic. One of the members of World Cellar approaches Patty and tells her that he has more information on the Maris Stella. However, if it’s true that she’s Aifread’s granddaughter, they will not help her anymore. Doing business with the grandchild of a traitor to his own guild would hurt their guild's reputation. He also warns her not to take revenge against the World Cellar guild, though Patty claims she would never do such a thing. After the guildmember leaves, Yuri is amazed by how calmly Patty took that whole ordeal. She claims that because she doesn’t know what sort of person Aifread was, she can’t agree or disagree with what people say. She runs off, leaving the party yet again.

However, shortly after entering the Sands of Kogorh to find Phaeroh, the gang runs into Patty once more. As usual, she’s in search of treasure. This is the point where Patty joins the party for real. In the town of Yormgen, she has another little talk with Yuri. Here, she explains she’s been doing a lot of research about Aifread. That’s how she knows Aifread’s secret oden recipe. She also explains that her oldest memory is that of Aifread giving her her name. She still remembers the kind look he gave her and how it made her feel like he was very important to her. After Belius’ death and Judith’s betrayal, Patty admits to Yuri that she’s realized being with others is a lot better than being alone. That’s why, even after she regains her memories, she’ll stick with the party. Besides, the group needs to return to Dahngrest to hand Belius’ apatheia over to the Don. As he was an old friend of Aifread, perhaps he could help Patty regain her memories.

As the gang runs into Don Whitehorse in the Manor of the Wicked, the man’s attention falls on Patty. He claims that she’s a spitting image of his old companion Aifread, but he never heard of any grandchildren. He also explains that Aifread was a “free spirit”, who never told Don too much. That’s why he has no clue where Aifread is now. Patty wonders if perhaps she and the Don have met before in the past, but he doesn’t recognize her. After he leaves, the party wonders how Patty could be a spitting image of someone they all pictured to be an intense man like Don Whitehorse himself. However, as the Don’s death follows soon after, they have no way to ask him much more about Aifread.

Patty continues to exist in the background for a bit as the story continues and is even offered membership of Brave Vesperia, but declines it, as she doesn’t have her original memories yet. Even so, the gang continues to stand by Patty even as more people insult her for being Aifread’s granddaughter. While searching for a way to get into Myorzo, the gang passes through a dungeon known as Lenansla Cavern, where they run into a graveyard. They discover that this is where the victims of the Black Hope incident were buried. The party is astounded by the large amount of graves, and thus the high amount of people who were presumably killed by Aifread. Crushed, Patty stays behind with Repede while the rest of the party continues to search the bell that will allow them to enter Myorzo. When they return for her later, Patty is still downcast, but agrees to leave with everyone else. She utters a single name, Cypher, before turning away from the graves.

After they return to the airship and Ba’ul, Patty announces to the others that she’d like to part ways with them now. She feels that she should no longer trouble the party and even if the whole Aifread affair doesn’t bother them, it does bother her. Still, the others convince her to stay, at least until she’s had some time to think about it and decide it’s certain this is what she wants. She continues to be downcast throughout the Egothor Forest dungeon, but pulls herself together a bit more after the party reminds her that they’re her friends.

After Estelle is kidnapped by Raven and the gang runs into Alexei, it’s revealed that like Barbos and Ragou, Aifread was a pawn in Alexei’s plans, but no detail is given. Even so, Patty becomes distracted further and while she pretends like nothing’s wrong, she’s determined to hunt Alexei down. Inside the fortress Heracles, she has a quick talk with Flynn about what it was like to confront Yuri, his best friend, in Nordopolica. Patty believes that he’s strong for doing that.

After finally freeing Estelle from Alexei’s grip in Zaphias, Patty has another brief talk with Yuri in private. Here, she asks Yuri if he would’ve really gone ahead and killed Estelle, had she not regained herself. When he states that he likely would’ve, she questions how he could do that if he knows it would hurt him. Yuri explains that he would do it because Estelle’s his friend, and he couldn’t let strangers take care of his friends’ problems. Just like in Flynn’s case, Patty believes that he’s strong for feeling that way. When he asks about her search for the Maris Stella, Patty replies that she’ll never forget, because her memory is the strongest skill that she has. She states that she’ll never forgive Alexei for sacrificing anyone for his ambition, then promptly changes the subject, though it’s clear she’s still hiding something else. Yuri notices and tells her to talk about it when she’s ready.

In the Enduring Shrine of Zaude, Patty finally finds what she’d been looking for for all those years: The Maris Stella. Rita asks what she’ll do now that she’s found it- whether she’ll use it to try and find her grandfather. However, Patty states that ‘beating that wicked Alexei to a pulp’ comes first.

Shortly after defeating Alexei once and for all, Patty reunites with the presumed-dead-Yuri, Estelle and Repede in Zaphias. The gang sets out once more, hoping to find a way to get rid of the Adephagos. They cause the birth of the four Summon Spirits, but even after this, Patty continues to be troubled. Yuri is the only one who truly seems to notice. As they spend the night at Capua Nor, Patty sneaks out by herself and heads for the docks by Ragou’s mansion. Here, she summons the ghost ship Atherum using the Maris Stella. The party corners her and asks what she’s doing out all alone. Patty explains that there’s still one more matter she needs to settle before they head to their final battle. As it’s her own problem, she can’t let anyone go but herself. When the gang questions how the Atherum could be summoned like that, Patty explains that a fragment of the Maris Stella is aboard the ghost ship and the two fragments are drawn to each other. She allows the gang to accompany her, on the condition that she is the one to settle her ‘problem’. She also explains that the Maris Stella isn’t a treasure that Aifread owned and hid, rather it’s something that Aifread had been looking for. When Karol asks if Aifread is aboard the ghost ship, Patty promptly avoids the question.

As they corner the wandering skeleton swordsman on the Atherum’s deck, the party assumes that he is Aifread. However, Patty calls him by his real name- Cypher. Raven explains that Cypher was the name of Aifread’s First Mate. After defeating him in battle, Cypher’s spirit emerges from the skeleton swordsman and the truth about Patty’s past is revealed. That is, she herself is Aifread. Though it isn’t all explained in this particular scene, what really happened during the Black Hope incident is that it was all just an experiment set up by Alexei. He drew magic formations on the Black Hope ship, then requested the Siren's Fang Guild to help them, only to become Alexei's test subjects and scapegoats. The victims, including Aifread’s crew, turned to monsters and they had to be killed. Cypher was the one to take this task upon himself. Aifread was able to survive the Black Hope incident because Cypher gave her a potion called Amrita, which resulted in her turning into a young girl. As a side effect, she lost all her memories. Presumably, this is the moment Patty referred to in Yormgen, when she said she could remember a man who was very important to her giving her her name. Cypher later turned into a monster, the Wandering Skeleton Swordsman, himself. Meanwhile, the empire hushed the whole thing up and blamed it on Aifread.

Now that Patty is fully aware of the truth, she realizes that it’s her turn to free Cypher, just as he freed the other victims of the Black Hope incident. He presents her with a special item, the Maris Gemma, and she shoots him, ending his life. The party regroups on the docks in Capua Nor and Patty, having lost such an important friend, breaks her own motto and cries. After a good night’s rest at the inn, Patty asks the gang if she can continue to tag along with them, as she can’t just ignore the Adephagos either.

This is the moment where Tarqaron rises and the decision is made to turn all Blastia into spirits. The night before they set out to face Duke, Patty is found standing atop a watchtower of Aurnion in search of Yuri. Flynn approaches her and she invites him to sit with her. They have a conversation about the worth of having support from your companions when times are tough, then Patty decides to give up on finding Yuri and retreats to bed.

Demon Diary - Raenef | Reserved | Also 2/4

[personal profile] ihasamap 2012-07-01 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Raenef is a very nice, happy, optimistic Demon Lord. All of which he should not be considering…he’s not supposed to be like that. No matter how much Eclipse, or anybody tries to change him, it cannot be done. He likes being the way he is, and thinks that even though he is supposed to be a mean, and evil Demon Lord, that is not a good enough reason for him to glare at everybody, and kill. (He also has an extremely weak stomach, and faints at the sight of death and blood, and will cry over the death of a giant talking tomato from his dreams) And since when he does try to act like a Demon Lord, he gets laughed at, and patted on the head while being called cute. Though if it weren’t his friends saying such things, he might bite the hand that’s patting him.

The boy also has the attention span of a child. During his lessons, if he is not being watched carefully enough, he will fall asleep while taking notes, or just find something else to distract himself, even if that’s just twirling a pen, or looking outside wishing that Eclipse would stop talking about boring things and let him do as he pleases. (Whacking him on the head will get him to pay attention for a little longer though) Also, with any problem, he handles them all like a child. Thinking of the most obvious thing that comes to mind first. Like if he suddenly can’t use his magic, he thinks someone took it.

He is also very respectful to everyone he meets. Calling them ‘mister’ or ‘ma’am’, especially if they are someone important, or he just doesn’t know their name. (And to learn someone’s name he has to repeat it over and over so he won’t forget…out loud) This doesn’t mean that he won’t do some very odd things to get someone’s attention though. If someone is walking away and he wants to get their attention, he will not hesitate to tug on their hair, even if it’s almost involuntary reflex of his. He will apologize after doing so of course.

Raenef is the biggest crybaby someone might ever meet. Not only does he cry when he’s sad, but just about anything can get him to burst into tears. Like if he doesn’t get his way, or he really really wants something, someone insults him, he thinks someone doesn’t like him, thinking he messed up (even with small things), gets scared…the list goes on forever. He does not care what anybody thinks about his crying, as long as he is eventually told it’s all alright, or he gets his way. Either way, it doesn’t take much for him to cry. Even being scolded by Eclipse about crying can make him start to tear up.

Being who he is, Raenef is oblivious about many, many things that go on around him. Something could be as plain as day, and he would still have to ask a few questions. And he will ask questions to anyone, and sometimes very stupid/obvious questions, even if the person is trying to kill him! He really does like to know what’s going on, and what people are talking about, and will even ask people to stop and tell him what’s going on if it’s all going by to fast.

If a situation absolutely demands it, Raenef can act like the adult he’s supposed to be. Even though it will almost always happen if he’s learned that acting like a child won’t do him or the situation any good.

Name: Natural Harmonia Gropius/N
Fandom: Pokémon Black and White (games)
Gender: Male
Age: His age is unspecified in canon; I place him at about 17/18
Time Period: Mid-game, after the battle in Chargestone Cave. I'm also working with the assumption that he's supposed to befriend Reshiram, but this can be altered to fit the rest of the cast if there's a conflict.
Wing Color: White, with a black trailing edge. (Think American white pelicans.)
History: N's page on Bulbapedia
Information on Pokemon Black and White as a whole

[personal profile] centrifuged 2012-07-01 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: There's something decidedly...off about N.

Talking to him for less than five minutes will reveal that much; he's a very open person, willing to tell the world what he thinks and how he feels, but there's a sense of distance about him just the same. Something that says that he's holding the world at arm's distance, that he prefers to watch people rather than associate with them; he doesn't shy away from others, nor does he hold himself back if he really has something to say, but there's a sense of wariness in his posture that might lead you to question whether he's afraid of something deep down - something that most aren't aware of, something about others that only he can see.

...and then you speak to him a little more and you realize that no, he's really just that arrogant.

From his birth, N has been groomed by his father, Ghetsis, to be the next Hero of Unova - basically, a human seen as "pure" by one of the deities of the Unova region, Reshiram and Zekrom; someone who's both capable of gaining their trust and earning their respect, who will befriend them and supposedly bring peace and unity to the region. (Or, you know, ensure that Ghetsis gains ultimate power and can take over with no opposition whatsoever once he has a tremendous dragon god in his possession. Same difference, right?) And when it comes to forming bonds with Pokémon, N is the perfect person for the job; he has the ability to speak to Pokémon, to understand their inner voices and comprehend their feelings on a deep, personal level.

The result of this? All his life, N been living in a fairytale - he was raised in a castle and kept separate from most humans in order to retain his "purity" and ensure his worthiness to receive a deity's blessing. As a child, he lived alone in his room, surrounded by toys and the creatures that he came to love more than he loved any human; as a teenager, he was crowned and revered as a king, in preparation for his ascension as the Hero of Unova. Even after his coronation, however, his interactions with humans were very limited - restricted to Ghetsis, the other members of the Seven Sages, and his personal servants, Anthea and Concordia - and he continued to cultivate his skills with Pokémon. These gifts didn't escape his father's notice - in fact, Ghetsis encouraged them rather enthusiastically...

...by surrounding N with horrifically abused Pokémon all his life. And telling him that all trainers treat their Pokémon in such a way, when clearly the creatures had done nothing wrong except love the trainers that had beaten and neglected them. Have I mentioned that N had next to no contact with humans as a child, and these were the only living things he spent time with? And he could hear their inner voices crying out, unable to understand why they had been so abused and unloved, questioning what they had done wrong?

Yeah.

...okay, so clearly the fairytale was written by the Brothers Grimm or something. Either way, it goes without saying that N's opinion of Pokémon trainers is not very high; he sees them as sadistic slave-owners, relentless abusers that only own Pokémon to further their own personal gain (whether it be status gain, monetary gain, or simply their own satisfaction). He looks down on trainers with disgust and disdain, especially those who contribute to the creation and completion of the Pokédex; he sees the goal of "catching 'em all", as it were, to be nothing more than the wasteful, needless enslavement of previously-free creatures, just for the sake of adding some information to the 'Dex and stuffing them in a box to languish. He's very open about his disapproval, to the point of telling the creator of the Unova Pokédex that she's a horrible, ignorant person and effectively throwing a tantrum when she argues her case and tries to encourage him to get some perspective.

Tantrums are still kind of a thing with N.

N overall is a bit odd when it comes to societal norms - he doesn't understand tact or the idea that some things are really better left unsaid, as he believes the best policy is complete honesty; he tends to have very little regard for personal space, often positioning himself directly in people's faces to talk to them and generally having no qualms about being all up in people's business if he has a point to make, and as was mentioned above, if that point doesn't go over well, then he seems to find yelling, backhanded insults and just pitching some sort of fit to be a valid solution. Physically speaking, N is an adult, and his mental capabilities do reflect that - he's capable of grasping complex subjects like advanced mathematics and appreciating the engineering behind mechanical structures; emotionally, however, a childhood full of neglect, manipulation and emotional abuse (whether he recognizes it as such or not) has left him in a very childlike state. For N, there are no shades of grey - almost all humans are always evil; Pokémon are always one's friends, pure creatures that are horribly mistreated by humans who want to take advantage of them; his followers are the only ones he can trust, and his father always, always knows what to do to make things right when N himself is feeling lost. His emotions are very raw, made oversensitive by his upbringing; his world has consisted of nothing but the lies he's been fed by the few humans he's known.

With this in mind, it's no wonder that N is arrogant; as far as he knows, he is the only completely pure human. He believes himself to be the savior of the oppressed, a mythical Hero whose coming was foretold in legend; he doesn't believe this through conceit, but rather as the result of abuse and deceit. He lives in a world of children's toys and make-believe, but in his innocence, all of it is very, very real.

N isn't entirely about fantasy, however; as was mentioned earlier, he's good with math and formulas, often describing his work as solving the equations of the world. He takes comfort in math, because math is a constant; it's a logical progress and there's always a correct answer, unlike most dealings with humans. (After all, if you add two and three you will always get five; you won't usually get five but sometimes get six, or get nineteen on Wednesdays, or get negative one because a fight broke out and Two broke Three's arm.) Ironically, the key to breaking down N's defenses and getting through to him on an emotional level (because N is, at his core, an emotionally-centered being) is to appeal to logic - to reveal the fallacies by showing him that that Pokémon can be happy with their trainers because good humans actually do exist, and to provide him with proof that not all people are the slave-driving demons that his mind has made them out to be.

Fortunately, N is the antagonist in a video game where the primary goal is to train your Pokémon well and make them love you, and while it's never verified exactly what the primary power source for the Pokéworld is, the Power Of Friendship is a pretty valid assumption. (Seriously. Need a powerful move? Return can be learned by just about anything, and its power increases with friendship. What do you often get as a reward for meeting a bunch of often-arbitrary goals like getting a load of ribbons? Advanced massage treatments, which increase friendship. Need a baby Pokémon to evolve? You'd best start befriending it, kid. Fuckin' Magnemites, how do they work? Friendship. [citation needed]) As such, N pretty much can't turn around without running into the protagonist and said protagonist's friends, all three of them Pokémon trainers with a Pokédex, getting their love and friendship all over everything. He takes particular interest in the protagonist, singling them out early on; he's both frustrated by and fascinated with the fact that they disagree so blatantly with him, yet their Pokémon are happy with such a trainer and seem to be treated well. Over the course of the story, he comes to trust the protagonist, eventually seeing them as a rival "pure" enough to gain the blessing of the other deity of the region and engage him in a climactic battle not unlike the one foretold in legend - the ultimate clash between Truth and Ideals, a fight for the fate of Unova.

N loses the battle. Ghetsis is not amused. And shortly thereafter, N is confronted harshly with the truth about his father: N is called worthless, an inhuman monster and a failure of a son, before Ghetsis also reveals his true goals - to keep all Pokémon for himself, to make himself the sole individual with ay worth or power.

Basically, to do exactly what N has been determined to stop his entire life.

Rather than back down in the face of...well, Ghetsis throwing a tantrum that puts all of N's to shame, however, N finds the courage to stand up to him somewhat by assisting the protagonist, then admitting to the fact that he was wrong. There's a heartfelt speech, and a journey for self-discovery, and warm bittersweet feelings in everyone's hearts as the credits roll. (And the level of satisfying melancholy is actually almost enough to tide you over until the credits stop rolling! ...you can't expect miracles, though, and Pokémon has some long-ass credits.)

All's well that ends well, if a bit bittersweet - however, N's canon point is before most of that happens. It feels like I'm making it a bit of a shaggy dog story by saying that, and I apologize for it, but it's included for the sake of demonstrating that he can change and develop and...well, get better. The point I'm taking N from is set a ways before the ending, immediately after the confrontation in Chargestone Cave - at that point in the storyline, he knows (but doesn't yet trust) the protagonist; more to the point, however, he's just sensing the beginnings of doubt. Not enough to make him change his course, but enough to feel those small tendrils tugging at him. (This canon point was selected for the sake of what I believe has the most potential for character growth, and to keep him from becoming stagnant or resistant to the setting.)

First and foremost, though, N's thoughts remain with his friends, the Pokémon he fights to protect. However, as both the Hero of Unova and as a person, he doesn't wish harm or pain on any living creature - despite his bitterness and distrust toward humans, he doesn't want to see them suffer. There's no doubt that, deep inside, N is innocent in intention; even Anthea and Concordia, who have provided comfort to him and seen him at his lowest points, admit as much. However, though N's intentions are pure, he acts through ignorance and worldviews that were tainted from the start; he's relentless in his pursuit of a world devoid of shades of grey - a world divided, colored only in the sharp contrast between black and white.

N is, at heart, a gentle person. Well-intentioned. Loving. Innocent.

But as Concordia herself said, there is nothing more beautiful and terrifying than innocence.

Personality: Pepper Potts is a smart, sensible, strong woman, who despite coming from humble beginnings (at least in her comic book history), has the wits and internal strength to successfully manage a billion dollar company. More impressively, she also manages Tony Stark, keeping him somewhat in line—certainly as much as any single human can be expected to. She's able to handle his personality and neither be overly charmed nor repulsed by it, but instead she truly accepts Tony for who he is. That means cleaning up after him sometimes, via making excuses to his board of directors or giving statements to the press or government agencies at a minimum. However, it also means providing stability for Tony, which in turn requires her to maintain a strong stability for herself. Otherwise it'd be impossible to avoid the chaos that Tony naturally seems to create around him.

Yet Pepper isn't so obsessed with details that she lacks a sense of humor. She's witty enough to match Tony snark for snark, and even wins arguments with him on several occasions through sarcasm or flat out promising him sexual favors. She also uses that humor when dealing with people who look down on her for her work; she doesn't let one of Tony's many one night stands insult her, instead returning the quip by cleverly calling the woman trash. And in an extended version of the Iron Man 2 opening, when Tony tries to get Pepper to kiss him, she rather passionately locks lips with the Iron Man helmet she's holding in her hands before tossing it off the plane and wishing Tony good luck. Pepper doesn't take herself too seriously, but unlike Tony, she balances humor and seriousness in equal portions.

Despite how involved her job requires her to be, Pepper still purposely takes time for herself. She makes plans on her birthday that don't involve Tony, whether he likes it or not. She also understands him well enough to not expect the man to remember her birthday, and uses his money to buy herself a gift. It might seem presumptuous to some, but it just shows how well Pepper knows Tony, because he's perfectly content to let Pepper buy her own gifts from him so long as it makes her happy. This means that Pepper isn't so wrapped up in traditional ideas that she makes herself unnecessarily miserable. Between this and her statement that it's okay for Tony to be how he is with women (before they start dating), she seems to have a more modern mindset when it comes to personal morality.

She's a very caring woman, as seen in how she handles Tony. It's clear from their interactions that what she does goes well beyond a job. When Tony returns from being held hostage by terrorists, Pepper greets him with red puffy eyes, and is clearly overjoyed to see him—though not just because it saves her from having to look for a new job. She disapproves of him being Iron Man at first, because of how it risks his life, to such a degree that she initially refuses to help him put himself in danger. When he expresses how fulfilling this role gives his life a vital purpose, however, she puts aside her own fears to help him. In the second Iron Man movie, Pepper tries to get Tony to talk to her, as she sees clear evidence of his self-destruction. It culminates in the disastrous birthday party, after which Tony disappears. Pepper is legitimately hurt by this, and more so when Tony returns and claims that he wasn't there to apologize. She's so angry that she tells him he needs to leave. Later on, however, when she learns that all of this was caused by Tony dying, she forgives him, eventually. She's still mad at first though.

Pepper has to balance out how much she cares for Tony with her professional standing, something which she struggles with in the first two movies. After she and Tony share a dance at a benefit, they go outside. Pepper then details all the very sensible reasons why she shouldn't be dancing with Tony, or even be out on the balcony with him, entertaining notions of taking their relationship to a more intimate level. She leans in for a kiss, despite these protestations, but then stops herself and decides she wants a drink instead. It's ultimately the smarter choice, and the one she sticks to until after she's promoted to and resigns from being CEO of Stark Industries, and realized that he was actually dying.

Notably, a lot of this personality section (along with the strengths and weaknesses below) has dealt with her interactions with Tony, and for good reason. Given how much of her time is devoted to him, both professionally and personally, it's where her personality comes out the clearest. However, in Luceti a lot of her pressures will be reduced, in that there's no media or stockholder to cater to, no business deals to broker, no contracts to sign, no meetings to arrange, and hopefully no significant number of apologies to make on Tony's behalf. As she interacts with other people, these traits will in turn manifest themselves toward them. We see hints of it in Avengers, when Coulson and Pepper have a personal conversation about Coulson's girlfriend, who apparently moved out of state. She's gotten to know the Agent well enough to learn these personal details, and to address him by his first name.

Pepper tends to be a fashionable woman, and tries to dress appropriately for the situation. When she's working, she wears modest, professional dress, and always in muted colors, with heels. Personally, however, her tastes aren't so limited. One birthday present from Tony (meaning one she picked out herself), is a backless blue cocktail dress that she wears to a gala which she describes as "quite tasteful." When she has the opportunity to just be herself, however, Pepper abandons the formality, and when she and Tony celebrate the completion of Stark Tower, Pepper dresses in a simple shirt and cut-off jean shorts, and walks around barefooted. It's a distinct contrast from her normal wear, and lends support to the idea that Pepper is just as organized about her appearance as she is about everything else. She does make mistakes sometimes, however, as when she claims to have forgotten her deodorant at the aforementioned gala. No one's perfect.

Pepper has an interest in art, and puts together an extensive multi-million dollar collection over the course of more than 10 years. She's very proud of this collection, and claims it as her own despite Tony's assertion that since it's been paid for with his money, it's his property. Pepper expects him to recognize the effort she puts into this collection, and she's incredibly upset when he just gives the collection away because of that effort. Additionally, she's also mad when he opts to take down a modern art print in favor of putting up a picture of Tony himself, as Iron Man. When she takes over as CEO, she redecorates Tony's office in a simplistic style, and her desk features a rotating sculpture that drives Tony nuts. Fair to say, she enjoys art.

Not strawberries, though. Pepper's allergic to strawberries. It's important to know.

Personality:

Like most Tales of heroes, Yuri Lowell is the sort of character who seems basic enough on the outside, but is actually quite complex under the surface. At first glance, he just seems like some cold, uncaring, mouthy guy with a high tendency for recklessness. That first glance isn't completely far off, though -- Yuri can be rather cold, can make some very uncaring comments, and he certainly does like to run his mouth. Really, he doesn't sound like the "hero" type of person at all.

Surprisingly enough, he actually is.

Before going into that, let's touch on the basics, first. Yuri's basic personality can be summed up in five words: teasing, sarcastic, cold, cynical, liar (and also a positive thinker when it comes to The Situation At Hand and making everyone around him feel better only -- past that, no). It's the side of him he shows more often than not, preferring to tease, lie, make snarky comments, or just be cold in general to get himself out of situations he'd rather not be in or face at the moment. If he notices a weakness in someone, he will exploit it for his own personal fun (like he did to Karol after they defeated an Eggbear). Thankfully, he won't laugh in your face for it, but if he teases you enough and you're giving reactions he's hoping for, he just might. He knows when to stop, though, and isn't one to push his luck when it comes to teasing people he actually likes being around. The man also lies more than an area rug, doing so many times in his canon to get information without others interfering, to cover up something he did, or just to get away from everyone and do something on his own. If he gets caught up in his lies, he won't back down and admit it all, either -- he'll just switch gears, as if he never lied in the first place, and never address the lie again. His cynical attitude is one that doesn't get brought out too often, as he's usually just an easy-going guy. For the most part, he's cynical about situations he's absolutely frustrated with. In the canon itself, most of his cynical commentary stems from any mention of the government, which he's extremely frustrated with. So, if there's lots of things piling up all at once that's not being taken care of, and Mr. Lowell can't handle it himself and knows this, he's going to be damn cynical about the whole deal. And if the guy just met you and sees no reason to be friendly or treat you with respect, he can easily come off as cold and apathetic.

Deep down, however, Yuri has that "protective older brother" personality. Aside from all the teasing, snarking, and lying he'll do, if he likes you, you'll know it. He'll protect you if he's near and the situation calls for it, check in on you when he's able, and offer help when he feels you might need it. If he really cares, then he'll be a little harsh at times as well, making blunt statements about your actions and seemingly getting upset. Really, he's not angry -- he's just worried, and he's not one to express that very well. Sometimes he'll flat out say "You had me worried", but his words and his actions tend to be different. Usually, if he's worried enough to say that he's worried, you probably scared the shit out of him. Even when it seems he doesn't care much about something that's going on, he's got it on his mind in some form or another.

There's one part of Yuri's lying side that eventually becomes obvious, when someone gets to know him long enough and sees it enough times: If something bad happens and he seems alright the next day, more than likely smiling away or snarking out of nowhere with a grin, then that's a huge red flag that whatever just happened is seriously bothering him. Yuri seems to hate attention drawn to him in the form of praise or worry, so he'll shrug off any praise and decline being rewarded for good actions he's done, and he'll smile away and joke around to ward off any worries people might have for him. The only praise he'll really take is praise or rewards for his fighting skills. Sadly, he doesn't make his "pretending to be happy" side glaringly obvious by flat out saying "No one worry, I'm totally okay" or anything like that. He'll just stay quiet or talk normally, and if anyone says "Oh, are you all right?" he'll put up a lie immediately and try to cut things short to get away. While Yuri does have the cold aspect going on for him often, he's really very easy-going (and even gives off the slacker vibe at times) if he's got no reason to be cold/knows you well enough. This is a bit tough to see in the main game without looking at skits, but Yuri is actually a very encouraging, "be happy about this/it could be worse" kind of guy about a lot of things ... well, not things that involve more serious aspects of life, like a town's people being tortured or a crappy government or something. He's not some kind of cheerleader, but he will come out with encouragement when it's necessary, and a "be happy!" when he feels it's needed.

As mentioned earlier, on most normal occasions, Yuri has a tendency to be cold and almost dismissive with people if he's in the middle of something or isn't getting a good first impression of them/thinks talking to them is a waste of time. The cold attitude can also come up when he's explaining things, stating his opinion (if it's about a serious topic), or when the group (or just one person in it) is doing something silly or says something stupid. "Don't be stupid." "I'm not getting involved in that." "We have other things we need to be doing." So on. It's doubtful he does that to be nasty or make everyone look stupid, but more to make them think a little more before talking, or to stay focused. ... Or he's just blunt, which is much more likely the case. This is Mr. "I will say what I want, when I want, however I want" Lowell, after all. Most of what he says can come across as cold or otherwise uninterested, even around friends, but that's just the way he talks. He's only warm and actually friendly when he's in a good mood, or when he's talking one on one with someone (this is usually reserved to someone he cares about, though). However, Yuri's not perfect and can get distracted from the Goal of the Day sometimes, but as long as some voice of reason clues him into that, he'll get back on track quickly.

Getting back to what I said about Yuri and how "obvious" he makes it when something's bothering him. In general, Yuri is what could be called "a non-expressive brick", particularly from the beginning of the game up to the point of Estelle's capture. If he's upset, depressed, angry, happy -- he barely shows it. Early-Game!Yuri's "happiness" came off more like amusement, anger came off as silent aggravation, and forget "upset" and "depressed" -- that wasn't even shown, not around everyone else. For example -- it takes Estelle from the first visit to Capua Nor to the first mention of Yuri and Karol creating a guild (in part 2/3 of the game, that is) to figure out that something Flynn said to Yuri back during that first visit to Nor had upset him. Even then, Yuri flat out denies it, saying "Nothing that guy says could get to me" while wandering off somewhere. Judith says "He doesn't like to admit his feelings, does he?", which just ... well, rubs the evidence of Yuri being a brick about his feelings in your face. The game definitely makes sure you realize how locked in Yuri is, that's for certain.

[personal profile] getdunked 2012-07-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
An incredible caring individual, Peter is the perfect fit to be a superhero like Spider-Man. He goes out of his way to help people he doesn't know or recognize, and for those that he does know, he cares for immensely and would do anything to help them the first chance he gets. The closer someone is to him, the more he would do for them. Saving someone's life almost comes like the default treatment he could give a person, so he would do more than just that for some people. Peter goes out of his way to get a job solely to help make ends meet for Aunt May.

He loves his family, and he's been shaped by the event that caused him to lose his Uncle Ben. That event taught him well, serving as the starting point in his career as Spider-Man. His emotions got the best of him as he got conned out of money he fairly earned, and out of spite, he let a criminal go. That criminal killed his Uncle, and now he knows that he can't let a criminal go no matter what. Peter likes to act before they do, just to make sure no one gets hurt ever again. It's that method of thinking that defines him, and destroys him.

As Spider-Man, he tends to shoot first and ask questions later, especially if the villain in question is a freak of some sort. He did this with Electro, despite the guy trying to adjust to his new body altering powers. Because of that, he drove Electro into becoming a villain with his own two hands, and it wasn't the first time either. In one way or another, most of the villains that Spider-Man fights on a day to day basis were actually created because of him, or in order to distract him from the criminal underworld. He feels guilty for that, and guilty for most of the actions he does that he grows to regret. But he keeps fighting.

Peter tries his hardest not to hurt those around him and tries to think in a way that he helps them, but sometimes he does the opposite and thinks selfishly without realizing how bad he can get. He's done this with his photography for the Daily Bugle, which causes Eddie Brock to go bad. He's done this with his friends when Aunt May had a heartache (no thanks to the symbiote). And he's toyed with both Liz Allen and Gwen Stacy's feelings because of his inability to decide on which girl he wants, and deciding to go with the girl in front of him instead of focusing on who he truly wanted. As Spider-Man, he's a hero. But as Peter Parker, he doesn't tend to think ahead and plan what to do when he returns from disappearing to become Spider-Man. That hurts those around him, and confuses them.

There's been numerous times where he has considered quitting the Spider-Man persona altogether because of the cons of it all, but he's realized that despite New York becoming a dangerous place, he helps contain that danger and stop it. If it weren't for him, Dr. Curt Connors would have been stuck as the Lizard. It's the lives that he saves and changes that drive him to be hero, and he knows it. It just proves how caring of a person he can really be.

Peter dislikes people who pick on others, or use others, or harm others for their own amusement or gain. People like that drive him nuts and make him so angry, and he hates them. Whether they're just a bully or a criminal mastermind, they're the type of people that drive him to fight and save lives. He would stop at nothing to stop them and set them straight if they have an ounce of good in them, otherwise they're no better than trash. Tombstone is a great example of the one man in all of New York that Peter hates more than anyone else, simply because of how he runs the criminal underground in New York. He's also a dick.

So is J. Jonah Jameson, but that's because he paints Spider-Man in a bad light. That just grinds Peter's gears. Bad.

He's also more than capable of holding grudges, and it's incredibly hard to stop him from holding one. He will never enjoy Tombstone's company, and teaming up with the guy was driving him insane from how sick he felt over the ordeal. Eddie Brock has made his shit-list despite the two growing up together as figurative brothers due to his actions as Venom and nearly killing Gwen just to get at him. Harry Osborn was nearly put in a bad light for Spider-Man because of how he was apparently the Green Goblin, but now that's nothing more than a suspicion that Peter feels he should always be aware of. Even his closest friends, when they wrong him or others, can be kept at more than arms length. The man who killed Uncle Ben is a good example of just how big a grudge Peter can hold.

In battle, Peter knows that he's not the strongest person out there. He's only 16 and rather inexperienced. He needs to be on the top of his game and observant, which is what Peter knows he can do well. He's smart enough to analyze people in battle and figure out what strategy to use. He uses it in everyday life as well, just to be on top of things whenever he possible can. But. What he does best is witty banter and almost messing with someone's mind just to get under their skin and let the battle play out his way. He's almost playful during battle, just because this allows him to steer the battle and be the one with the plan, rather than the others. Also, he just likes the banter.

What? It makes the job fun.

Yunoha Suroor | Aquarion Evol

[personal profile] dynast 2012-07-01 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Shyness is Yunoha’s defining trait. She spends the first quarter of the series being literally invisible and it takes almost losing a dire battle for her to finally show herself. Even then, she quickly recloaks herself again after the battle. It’s an almost crippling trait that imposes upon her ability to form relationships with others, making her into a very quiet, lonely character. However, as the major characters soon discovered, involving her in things draws her out from her shell quite quickly, and the girl inside isn’t quite as much of a shrinking violet as everyone had initially thought.

Whilst Yunoha doesn’t exactly make a transition from quiet to loud instantly, friendship does make her more open and a little braver to speak up. In fact, she’s strikingly honest in most of her interactions with others. She doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind, even in situations that may turn ugly— such as the occasion when she speaks out in defense of Jin when he accidentally intrudes upon the girls’ locker room. However, she doesn’t boast to be the defender of the weak, merely the voice of quiet reason. After all, rushing into things has never been her style; she prefers to observe and then draw her own conclusions. This extends even to her own self-assessments and she unabashedly talks about her own weaknesses, even to people whom she may just have met a few moments ago.

And yet beyond all that frankness, she’s actually an extremely emotionally fragile girl. She’s easily embarrassed and small gestures such as people not wanting to listen to her, shakes her already unsteady confidence and makes her withdraw. In fact, a lot of her courage comes not from self-confidence but from the friendships she’s built: Mikono’s trust in her, Jin’s clumsy attempts to connect to her— they enable her to open up and connect with more people. That’s not a bad thing, of course, for she is a kind, thoughtful and loyal friend. In fact, she’s practically a personal cheerleader for those closest to her. As she says herself:

"So now, in return, I'm going to support you."

Yunoha’s major strength both in battle and her relationships is the unwavering support that she gives to her comrades and her friends. Whilst she may be vulnerable and weak, she never lets that affect her belief and trust in her friends. In fact, it’s this reason that the breaking of her relationships affects her so much. The collapse of one of these, as seen by her reaction to Jin’s death, causes her to violently withdraw from the world around her. Unsurprising, considering how her relationships form the cornerstones of what makes her her (at this current point in time). Her life in Neo-Deava, after all, has been nothing but a string of regrets (and invisibility) up till she started to fight alongside the rest of the team.

However, as aforementioned, Yunoha is very aware of her own weaknesses and does strive to improve upon them. It’s a difficult thing to break the habit of hiding away from things she’s uncomfortable with, but she takes it a step further and tries very hard to face things head-on. It’s a sticky process, as seen by her slow recovery from Jin’s death (she starts off being self-blaming but slowly builds up to acceptance and renewal of her own self-confidence) but she persists and succeeds in the end. This also shows how Yunoha isn’t the type of person who can easily recover; her grief, for example, still commonly manifests itself in her conversations with others when she peppers it with mentions of him, even though the conversation topic may not quite call for it.

Strengths:
[ Physical ] Yunoha's Element power is optical fluoroscopy (aka invisibility), and she's a deft hand at using it. Canon has shown that she can cloak five fighter jets for a little more than half a day and doesn't need to be in close vicinity to maintain her shields. On a personal level, she has the ability to control her own opacity, and can appear transparent, various different levels of translucent and of course, totally opaque. She's also a trained Vector pilot and can be relied on to pilot a similar spacecraft, as long as it doesn't involve engaging with the opponent in direct battle.

[ Mental ] Yunoha is quite open-minded and doesn't tend to jump to conclusions quickly even in seemingly no-brainer situations (like when Jin accidentally ventured into a locker room full of girls, herself included). She prefers to observe and think things through- an easy enough task since she's easily one of the more perceptive characters in the series, given how much time she spends listening to others rather than talking. This helps her avoid misunderstandings, though ironically enough, it is this attitude that forced her hand and made her appear before the other Element pilots as well— she'd wanted to clear up a misunderstanding between Amata, Mikono and Zessica.

She's also very firm in her own opinions and doesn't back down easily unless she's sure that her position's understood 100%. When it comes to issues she's passionate about (i.e. the whole being lonely vs being alone issue that she had with Jin), she's willing to put aside her shyness to argue, albeit hesitantly. When she puts her mind to something, no one can stop her.

[ Emotional ] She's extremely supportive of others and doesn't let that falter no matter how hard the situation gets. It's friends over herself for Yunoha who takes the time and effort to make food for Andy when he was angsting away in one of his holes, even though the loss of MIX hit her hard as well. For her friends, she's willing to make a couple of sacrifices.

She's also the quickest to sympathise with others and is quite gentle-hearted . She's the first to try to understand Jin's problems settling in at the academy, and is the only one who seeked out Mikono to comfort her and get her side of the story when the latter was punished for siding with an interplanetary enemy.

Weaknesses:
[ Physical ] Yunoha is one of the physically weakest Element pilots in the Neo-Deava lineup. She passes out easily, particular during times of heavy stress (watching Jin almost get hit by a stun ray, watching MIX and Andy almost get buried alive), making her a liability when not in the pilot seat. Additionally, although her invisibility does grant her temporary cover (via thermal/mass/visual scans), she's also the type to go down in one hit. Ideally, her best tactic is to keep away from the danger zone unless truly necessary.

[ Mental ] Yunoha has very little self-confidence. The time that spent at Neo-Deava was squandered away being fearful about a lot of things— of being lonely, not being able to match up to everyone else and so forth. All this exerted a great deal of stress upon her on top of her already crippling shyness, making her even more reclusive and quiet compared to others. She demands quite a lot of attention from others and will withdraw from sight if not given full attention.

[ Emotional ] Yunoha is one of the most emotionally fragile characters in the series and is heavily affected by the collapse of her relationships (whether platonic or not). In fact, she goes as far as to sink into a deep depression upon Jin's death that she almost wiped herself off the face of the planet. It was one of her lowest points— she became self-hating, selfish and bordering on suicidal. She has improved since then, but it takes her a very long time to recover from her grief; even at the end of the series, she still mentions Jin's name when she fights, indicating that his death is still something that she can't quite let go just yet.

Yunoha is also exceedingly dependant on her friends and will go to great lengths to keep herself relevant to the group. When Andy invites Mikono (and accidentally Zessica) for a planning party at the male dorms, Yunoha takes it upon herself to wait for the two girls in the secret tunnel, even if she hadn't been invited. It's her greatest fear to be left alone again, and for that, she claws her way to being involved in things. When everything else fails though, she clings to Tama, her little frog-shaped cat doll. It's frightening to imagine how things would turn out if she didn't have him.

Legend of Korra / Ikki / Reserved

[personal profile] breezing 2012-07-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)

Personality: Of Tenzin's four children, Ikki easily has the most to say - normally at top speed and occasionally at top volume. For any given situation or statement she has dozens of questions - which admittedly sometimes have very little to do with what was being talked about beforehand (see: interrupting anything she considers "boring" or less important in order to ask every single question to flicker through her mind). Unabashedly curious about just about everything, Ikki bounces from one topic to the next without slowing down or even allowing people to take a breath to answer. That said, she can take turned tables without batting an eye - Bolin pulled an Ikki and shot off question after question, upon moving to Air Temple Island, and Ikki paused for maybe five seconds before answering them all in order.

Ikki seems to have no filter at all - she asked Asami, one of Korra's friends, if she knew that Korra liked Mako, who happened to be Asami's boyfriend, for example, and another time asked her GranGran Katara how old the woman was, after informing her that she was really old looking, and yet another time she informed a visiting Council member that he was weird and smelled funny (to her father's despair) - and "restraint" seems to be something that only Jinora inherited. Maybe if Ikki's parents are really lucky her new baby brother Rohan will end up being a slightly more mellow child, too. Considering that Ikki and Meelo seem to be the rule rather than the exception, though...well, good luck with that, airparents. Even Jinora has her moments, particularly when she's with Ikki - the two sisters often tease Korra (memorably they give her advice on her love life, with each sister having rather a unique outlook on things, to say the least), and they can be fairly giggly when put together. Ikki's a stellar influence on her serious older sister, clearly.

At first glance Ikki seems to have inherited pretty much zero of her father's serious nature - or at the very least she leans towards cheerful energy rather than seriousness. She has shown herself capable of meditating without interruption, for example, but once Korra broke the meditation lesson Ikki was pretty much willing to go and do something else as well. When situations are serious, though, Ikki is perfectly capable of being serious as well. She proved that when she jumped in with Jinora and Meelo to protect Air Temple Island when it was under attack by Amon's forces, and proved it again when she understood the seriousness of their situation after that.

The reason she doesn't seem to be serious even despite her serious moments? Ikki is, above all, upbeat. She's cheerful and optimistic, energetic and playful. While she saw her home invaded - and was eventually forced to flee, and was then captured after they thought they had escaped - Ikki was capable of honestly smiling and cheerfully introducing herself to her new baby brother. She has never been the sort of girl to allow fear to rule her, throughout the series - while Ikki easily admits to being afraid to her father when he returns to find his family curled up together with Pema in his bed, waiting, she doesn't seem to let that rule how she acts on a day to day basis. During the series, Ikki can typically be found playing around, if she isn't training under her father's watchful eye. From chasing cute animals around to pretending to drive a car that Korra received as a bribe present, Ikki is always up to something so long as she's awake.

Character

Name: Luce Blancos, aka The Judge
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Wing Color: Dusty Green
Physical Appearance (Here you can either link us to a picture or provide descriptive text): He is the blond.

Luce is a pale man, roughly around 5'9 foot tall with gray eyes and blond hair. He is lithe with his entire build, showing that while he had access to food, he just didn't eat enough of it to gain as much weight as he should have. (This is not due to anything in particular besides him being a picky eater and others not giving into his pickiness). He seems a bit tired at all times. His clothing is the traditional clerical clothing of his world, which is a deep blue and green cassock with gold piping showing his rank. One unique trait about his clothing is how he always seems to be barefoot. This has left the soles of his feet to be much thicker than normal.

Re: Luce Blancos | OC | 2/3

[personal profile] inheavenslight 2012-07-01 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
History: Luce was born in the town of Dudondian as 'Joshua' on the outskirts of the country of Sancia to a baker and her husband, and they were quite happy considering they were a young couple and he was their first child. His time as a baby and a toddler was mostly normal except for the fact he would occasionally have seizures. The Church of the land said that due to his position in the birth order, they wouldn't need to worry about it (him being the first born, meant that his duty would be to the Bakery and taking care of his parents). When he was four, he started to show psychic abilities. In his world, this was unheard of unless one thinks of the time when Luce went to a group confessional and admited he heard voices- the teacher said he was fibbing for attention. So when the parents went to the Church for help, the Church instead sent the Inquisition to find out. Joshua showed this ability, and instead of sentencing him to death like they had done to people they thought were witches, they figured he would be the ideal weapon for their cause. So the took him and killed everything else, removing the town from the map and blaming it on a local plague, figuring the best way to ensure that no one would ask questions about the boy, would be to hide his origins.

They renamed 'Joshua' to 'Luce' and the church told the populace that they had found him in an old church by the sea, telling the populace that he was created from the Deity to be The Judge of legend. While behind closed doors, they told the newly renamed 'Luce' that he was a demon made human, and that only working for them would his soul be turned into a human soul and he could hope for the day when he could enter paradise. This ensured his loyalty and started his blind faith to the church.

So, Luce spent his childhood years under the tight reign of the church, not trying to escape because he wanted to do good, but the lack of warmth in his childhood and only being used made the boy grow up jaded. His daily life would be wake up, wait for his room to be unlocked, eat, tutoring, eat and then work for the church. This left little room for him to grow and develop as a person, even though he didn't see a problem with it due to the Church's ingraining it into him that he needed nothing more than what they told him. And what they told him to do was be The Judge. The Judge was a character in their holy doctrine that would come to Judge the world and send those who were on the wrong path back to square one. So, when Luce appeared with his abilities to tell what a person has done and their feelings, the church figured either it was The Judge or a demonic being. They decided that no matter what they would use it for their own purposes. Luce would never see it that way, and that he was helping all along. But the nature of Luce's abilities were not something demonic, they were something that just simply appeared in him as a fluke of nature.

His one act of rebellion was when he was 10 and he ran away to do some renegade justice on the local rebel group where he killed one of the members and their family. He did this both because he wanted to do what he thought was 'good' but also because he wanted to do something without the church's control over him. When he came back from this deed, he realized he felt something odd inside of him, something that made him feel dirty but right at the same time. The church scolded him for leaving and praised him for this act- that he showed he was willing to go out of his way to help the church while some people were going against it. But still, he never got what he desired the most- affirmation that he was on the right path, and when he asked about his feelings, they were promptly brushed to the side and he was told not to worry about it. This left him with many questions on what he should feel but tried his best and it kept on nagging at him.

His goal as a child was to get the love and affirmation- which he never did get. So, when he was 11, he started to take his anger out on his keepers- the Pontiffs. If one stepped one toe out of line, he would see to their deaths via looking for anything they did wrong or scandalous. This only made the church proud of him for hunting out the wrong-doers instead of waiting to be told. His life was over all boring, he spent his life locked away from the population unless it was time for services or for him to Judge someone, this left him torn between his duty and his lack of development as a person. His only 'friends' were the birds he fed because he could toss bread to them on low roofs near his window. So he was painfully lonely, even if he didn't recognize it.

That is until he was 30 and he got his new Pontiff, Abel Ramos. Abel turned out to be an honestly good fellow. Which at first made Luce dislike him because the man must have been hiding something even if he couldn't find anything, Ramos was a simple yet honestly good fellow. Abel worked hard with Luce, helping the man, answering his questions about life and most importantly seeing the good in Luce.

Slowly Luce grew to like Abel, then one day he realized he more than liked him- he loved him. This is considered a sin in their world, worthy of hell if acted upon. So that and not knowing his own feelings he would have never figured this out unless he asked Abel and the other man spelled it out to him. So, figuring he was hellbound anyways, he told Abel his feelings, and Abel-as it turned out- returned them. So the two have been having to keep their relationship secret, knowing that if it did get out, Abel would be sentenced to death.

Personality:
Luce is a man of two distinct shades when it comes to his personality, and it depends on if he is with someone he trusts or not. First, I will explain him on a personal level. Luce is someone who is trying to gain acceptance, due to his childhood involving a severe lack of warmth and a little too much emotional abuse, Luce is trying to make up for it on some mental level. He does this by doing his job at The Judge to the best of his abilities. When he is around someone he trusts, they will see a man who without his abilities is as useless as tits on a boar. Luce was sheltered away and told he was only good for one thing (his abilities) so those were what he focused on. He craves acceptance from those he respects. He also craves being told he is 'good', much like a dog would. This again, has to do with his upbringing. Luce by himself, is lonely and is trying his best to understand himself and the world around him through the heavy filter of his religious brainwashing.

When he is working, (aka as The Judge). Luce is quick to Judge and is quite harsh. He sees the world in the black and white of 'Are they breaking the Church's laws?' and quickly deals with it. He seems smart, when all he is doing is parroting what he had been told to say. He can be considered merciless, but only because thats what he feels like he should be. Recently due to an outside influence (Abel) he has started to take some time to debate the judgements he is supposed to make.

But for both parts of him, he can be childishly cruel, blinded by his faith and lacking real world skills. He asks questions without a sense of shame about it- thinking they won't get answered and is thusly mildly pleased when they do. And he really needs both parts of himself to survive. When alone or with those he considers friends, it allows him to question himself, to be worried and to learn. Common questions are 'What is this feeling? Why am I feeling this?' but if he was not able to use the Judge as a mask, he could not interact socially. He would be like a manchild. With the Judge, it allows him to act within a set of rules, and not let his feelings-or confusion over feelings domineer him. To act within the logic set the church had set forth for him.

On a personal level, he as I mentioned before lacks real world skills, the ideas of cooking, cleaning and bills are all above him. He has never had to cook for himself, never had enough possessions to need to clean and his money is usually handled by someone else due to the fact he can be scammed quite easily as himself. He would want to try, but fail and give up, leaving it for those who know how to do it. He is technophobic and scared of large animals. The technophobia due to the fact he can't explain it and the large animals, because they are large animals that could kill him easily. He can be as dumb as a sack of rocks, his education only being to the level of reading, writing and some basic math. The Church did its best to keep him dumb by telling him to ignore his abilities unless he was working.

Luce tends to get happy over little things, such as nature, birds and just being accepted. He tries to keep his feelings protected-and once he trusts you he will allow you to see all of his emotions not holding them back, leaving him thinned skin (which if he was acting as himself he would lash out, but as The Judge he knows he is supposed to accept it.) A major down fall for him is his desire to make people in power happy and how he wants to be accepted. This makes him prone to making a lot of bad choices and giving into peer pressure even as an adult.

But I am hoping that in this game because he will be out of this control, he starts to develop on his own and learn how to survive without some sort of mental hand-holding from others. That he can start to have some of that brainwashing lifted away and thus allowing the character to discover himself without having to parrot other people.

Strengths: His psychic abilities are his major strength with telepathy, empathy and telekinesis. While in comparison to a lot of anime/video game types this would seem weak, but for his world which is stuck in the 17th Century it makes him a powerhouse and he still has potential to grow, currently he could sense the feelings and thoughts of people within a 50 foot radius of him, and move things with his mind just under 800 pounds of grand total weight. He can move said items at the same speed he could throw something. A lot of his ability is based off of his imagination, and as mentioned in the weaknesses- he is not very imaginative, but if someone could plant an idea into his mind and let it grow with what the a psychic could do, he could one day gain that skill. On an emotional level, when he trusts someone, he trusts fully and deeply and would be willing to do anything he can for them, while they have to suffer through his almost child-like way of expression. His personal naivety has made him painfully optimistic about life, although not about people. He is a walking dictionary for his faith which means he can fake being wise. Lately he has been trying to learn to think in shades of gray, and if being told he is thinking in black and white he would try and quickly correct it.

Weaknesses: Luce's psychic abilities are very limited by his imagination so to speak, he can not imagine hearing the thoughts of someone he could not realistically see well if there were no barriers, just like he can't imagine something moving faster than he can throw it. The weight limit he has for his TK is the max because outside of barn animals, he can not imagine something weighing more than that. He is not very imaginative, so that helps prevent a lot of possible growth with his abilities. He is physically weak due to his sheltered up bringing and occasionally has seizures (which people in his time period thinks it is for over use of his abilities instead of Epilepsy). He is dumb, emotionally dependent, lonely, sheltered, prone to following people in power, childishly cruel, as the Judge he puts on a HUGE fake ego, is easily hurt emotionally and doesn't know how to respond to it. He is naive when it comes to things, and honestly feels lost if he can't use his faith or have someone he trusts to give him cues. He lets his fears rule him. Luce gets angry and defensive when he doesn't know something that people make it look like he should know. Luce is just now learning how to think in 'grays' so, sometimes he might think of something as more severe or less severe than what it really is.

In Luceti, his abilities would be nerfed to his range for passive abilities (such as telepathy and empathy) to 25 feet and the weight limit to 400 pounds (if even that much).

Doctor Eggman | Sonic the Hedgehog (Reserved)

[personal profile] notshadowfever 2012-07-01 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Character

Name: Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik
Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog (Video games)
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown / Probably around mid 50s
Time Period: After the ending of Sonic Unleashed.
Wing Color: Gold
History: http://sonic.wikia.com/wiki/Doctor_Eggman#History (Hope this covers it)
Personality:

Dr. Eggman is a self-proclaimed romantic, feminist and gentleman, although in reality, his personality is mostly dominated by his huge ego. Eggman's egotism is made obvious constantly in almost everything he does.

He deems himself to be perfection, in both mind and in body. This is reflected in his unending desire to rule the world and his constant need to prove his genius, as well as the fact that so many of his robot creations resemble him physically. In fact, as the years have gone on, more of his robots have started to resemble him physically. Shortly after his attempt to dominate the world with the Eclipse Cannon, he developed vast armies of robots sharing his rotund figure, as well as his trademark pointed nose and wide grin. These are all features that Dr. Eggman considers the height of handsomeness, despite others thinking his appearance to be ridiculous. Due to his delusions of perfection, he takes great offence at anyone insulting his looks or intelligence and will quickly respond with anger to anyone who dares criticise him.

Eggman's aforementioned desire to rule the world is what really drives him. Most of his time is spent planning and executing new plots to take over the world and he seems to genuinely enjoy putting his invasion plans to work. One of the main motivations for him to take over the world is the scientist's need to be universally loved and respected by all. He particuarly considers himself worthy of ruling the planet because of his genius alone. Other than that, he also enjoys being in a position of power where he can lord over others and bully them into doing his bidding.

His world domination plans are more or less always foiled by Sonic the Hedgehog, his arch-nemesis for whom he originally held a deep-seated hatred, but who now sees as more of a rival than a hated enemy. Another motivation for Eggman to keep building his robots and trying to rule the world is the chance to put his creations to the test against Sonic, whom he considers to be his only worthy opponent. His machines aren't perfect until they're able to beat the hedgehog and he continues to improve his designs in the hope of one day defeating him. He admires Sonic for his determination and tenacity, seeing something of himself in the hedgehog. At the same time, his constant defeats at the hands of his rival leave him frustrated, angry and at times completely demoralised. Nevertheless, Eggman never gives up and continues to hatch new scehemes to beat Sonic and take over the world.

Eggman also has something of a rivalry with Sonic's friend Tails, not only because the two often team up to defeat him, but because Tails' mechanical skills are almost up to par with his own. Although Eggman rarely admits it, he's often impressed by the level of skill involved in some of Tails' creations. Despite this, Eggman doesn't consider Tails to be as big of a threat as Sonic, seeing Tails as nothing but the sidekick despite all of his skills. In fact, Eggman finds the idea of ever being beaten by Tails plain embarrassing, compared to how he feels when Sonic defeats him.

Eggman creates a variety of different robots and his designs range from the genuinely menacing to the plain absurd; he loves building things to a theme, often building a base and guard robots with matching themes. For example, one of Eggman's bases was themed on a haunted castle, complete with robots modelled after witches. Often, robots and inventions like this give the impression that the doctor is more interested in making them look good than making them functional. Despite the fact that Eggman has more recently been moving from his more strange, animal themed designs into more uniform armies of robotic infantry, he still maintains a nostalgic love for his older, more whimsical designs and doesn't let his need for an efficient army stop him from using his imagination when he designs new robots and weapons.

In addition to being unusual and somewhat comical, Eggman's designs and plans can reflect a childlike nature. Many times, he even built theme parks surrounding his bases and on one occasion was even more interested in showing his ally Shadow what rides and attractions there were than he was in repelling the attacking military force within his base. These giant, deadly themeparks in fact reflect Eggman's plans for his Eggman Empire. When he finally does achieve his goals and found the nation of Eggmanland, the entire place is one huge funfair, likely what Eggman had planned for his Empire all along.

When Eggman isn't working on his designs, he enjoys relaxing and playing games to help himself unwind. His Egg Carrier battleship even had a private games room for the Doctor, as well as a swimming pool area and an aquarium. His games room contains a variety of slot machines and some of Eggman's creations have been casino themed, suggesting that Eggman has a love for gambling, although he prefers to weigh the odds heavily in his own favour - he doesn't enjoy losing. Eggman has also been known to own a casino or two in the past, perhaps as a way to finance his operations.

Eggman is prone to immature fits of rage and temper tantrums if his plans aren't going his way, stomping and flailing and voicing his anger, even if others are present and he's clearly making a fool of himself. On the other hand, if things are going well for him, he can't help but gloat and become full of himself. During a fight, Eggman won't be able to resist taunting his enemies, especially if he manages to land a hit on them.

His self-centred attitude can also make it difficult for him to get along with others, this probably being a reason he rarely has intelligent robots or human allies in his army. He generally treats his own creations with utter disdain and won't hesitate to have them destroyed if they fail him. It's for this reason that his more self-aware creations have often betrayed him, one robot even hunting him down to destroy him. Even knowing this, Eggman doesn't feel any remorse for his actions or even seem to care when his robots rebel, seeing them as faulty and prospective scrap metal. That said, it's not impossible for Eggman to co-operate with others and he has done so in the past. He almost conquered the world with the help of two others, although he was being manipulated at the time. He has also been known to work together with the heroes to help stop a greater threat than himself from destroying the world - after all, if the world is conquered or destroyed, that's not in his best interests. His help has been invaluable in defeating other threats on several occasions. Despite this, he dislikes the idea of working with others, especially to take over the world, and has made a vow to himself to complete his conquest without the help of others.

He has long been haunted by the story of his grandfather's execution at the hands of the military, a seemingly innocent man who was killed for trying to do the right thing. It's something that has always fuelled him to be a scientist. When the Doctor found out that his grandfather had sold the lives of millions in the name of progress, he was hurt and taken aback, horrified that his idol could have done such a thing. For a time, he lost a lot of respect for his grandfather until he could justify the man's actions. This is evidence of Eggman's sense of morality, as well as his capacity for real feelings.

Doctor Eggman isn't used to dealing with people on a social level, as he confines himself to his own fortresses and only generally has contact with those who oppose him. However, Eggman is capable of coming across as charming, if eccentric. He is oddly willing to converse with others, partially because of a desire to gain information from or manipulate others, but often out of a general desire for social interaction that is left unfulfilled in his regular situation. Still, his lack of experience with other people may mean he comes across as somewhat outlandish. Despite this, Eggman has the ability to seem somewhat likeable and is adept at hiding his evil motives from others. He is quite fun loving and will often take part in acitivies with others, if only to prove that he is the best. This means he can often develop fierce rivalries with others in his constant need to be superior.

All in all, Eggman's eccentric and sometimes mad demeanor actually hides a vast intelligence and a genuinely brilliant mind. Although he often maintains a somewhat flamboyant and jovial attitude, he can lose it at the drop of a hat if the situation calls for it, acting completely seriously, even cold and calculating at times. However, perhaps that jovial and fun-loving attitude of Eggman's, combined with his past experiences is evidence that there is a real human being there underneath all the ego and hatred. Perhaps if given the chance to interact with others rather than try and gain their respect by force, a gentler self could be uncovered. Or perhaps Doctor Robotnik's lighter side is merely a facade, a way for him to lull his victims into a false sense of security and achieve his plans of world domination.
