Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Personality
:
Note: fanon/headcanon information will be in italics. More detail can be found in my headcanon write-up here.

Hinata is the co-founder of the Afterlife Battlefront, but he doesn't go on about it, nor does he try to boss others around with that fact. He's perfectly content to allow the self-proclaimed leader, Yuri, to take all the credit and attention while he remains a dependable subordinate. Hinata is the relaxed, charismatic friend that's always there when you need him. If there is some way Hinata can offer himself up for the good of his friends, it's a certainty that he'll be there to do it. You could even say that Hinata is the Good Guy Greg of anime.

Even if he's not usually the one doing the leading, he'll jump into a leadership position if he feels nothing will get done without some direction. Being the co-founder, he's perfectly equipped to give orders and accurately assess a battle situation, as he's seen them all before. However, if someone else is around that can fill the role of the leader, he's more than happy to relinquish control to them, seeming to be more comfortable in a supporting role. For example, he doesn't bat an eyelash when Otonashi unexpectedly jumps into the role of leader, following his orders without a second thought and trusting him completely.

The one exception to this is baseball. When it comes to baseball, he's the professional among them and knows how to put together and lead a solid team, even if he doesn't get the star players he wants and who he's left with are completely incompetent. Even when dealt a crappy hand as far as teammates go, he manages to do pretty well as a baseball coach. He guides his team to the top of the bracket, even winning against the starting lineup of the school's proper baseball team, until he's abruptly stopped from catching the ball that would win the game. Had that not happened, he would have successfully led his ragtag team to the top.

He seems to like his position as a third-year student, as he's willing and ready to help those younger or newer than him get settled. He appears to enjoy explaining things to those who don't yet understand and sticking by them until they're acclimated, at which point he backs off a little to let them find their own way. He isn't overbearing or pushy, he just gives little friendly nudges in the right direction. Of course, if that mentoring turns into a solid friendship, that's all the better!

As friendly and social as he is, he's not perfect friends with everyone. He may drop a snarky comment here and there, but nothing downright cruel or malicious. If that agitates the other person into saying something to him, it's not unlike Hinata to get into a minor verbal fight until the score is settled or they're forcibly stopped by more important matters. Despite this, he doesn't seem to hold grudges against anyone. He might not like the person any more or less, but he won't bring up past arguments and torment them with it. It's all water under the bridge, no?

Of course, he's not perfect. Even if he doesn't hold a grudge, he'll be quick to retaliate toward someone who is mistreating him. When verbally abused in front of others, he'll often retaliate with a comeback of his own rather than just laugh it off. When being physically abused, don't expect to get away unscathed. Hinata is shown to be quite athletic and knows a handful of wrestling moves to incapacitate anyone trying to mess with him. He's also proficient with a handgun and sniper rifle, thankfully, he doesn't use serious weaponry in petty squabbles. But try to hurt one of his friends? He'll sooner punch you than allow that to happen.

One exception to this rule is the leader of the Afterlife Battlefront, Yuri. She's done all manner of terrible things to him, from kicking him off a roof to his death, to attaching a rocket engine to his chair and firing him into the ceiling where his head gets stuck. He takes all manner of abuses from her without holding a grudge, even if he verbally retaliates the first few times and insists he won't take this abuse... he does it anyway. Over and over. Eventually, he just stops complaining.

Unless, of course, Yuri is obviously upset about something. If she's at the end of her rope, frustrated and upset and crying, he'll run to her side and hold her, even if all she wants to do is beat him. He'll passively take the abuse, smiling and promising never to leave her side, even as she reduces him to a bloody mess.

Even if he personally will take abuse from her, that doesn't mean he'll allow other people to feel her iron fist. He once explains to her that being so violent and confrontational will make people stop following her as a leader, and she should think about toning it down. At first she refuses his advice, disbanding the battlefront and having a breakdown, but eventually does come to her senses, slowly becoming a better leader with his gentle advice and suggestions.

Hinata may not exactly be a ladies man, but he's definitely flirtatious.  He shows no qualms when it comes to flirting with a girl to see what she says, or even teasing a girl about her sex appeal just to get a reaction. Despite his flirtatious tendencies and occasional over-friendliness with his male friends, Hinata wears his heart on his sleeve and takes true love very seriously. When he's serious, Hinata can be a very understanding, compassionate lover. If his love is not returned? He seems content enough to just stay by their side and help them achieve their goals in any way he can, even if they move on and find someone else, he'll say he's happy for them and not get in the way of their chosen love.

Similarly, if there is something he can do to help all of his friends find peace, even if that means being separated from them permanently, he'll do it. He's a remarkably unselfish friend, offering much in exchange for simple human companionship. The one exception to this is his relationship with Otonashi. Whenever Naoi tries to wiggle in and seemingly replace Hinata as Otonashi's best friend, Hinata is shown to get kind of uppity and possessive, getting into consistent fights with Naoi over who deserves Otonashi's favor.

Strengths:
  • In life, Hinata played on his highschool's baseball team, primarily as second baseman. Therefore, he's pretty athletic and gets very excited about playing baseball with others, immediately jumping into a leadership position to try and lead his team to victory... even if the team is totally incompetent.
  • Hinata is incredibly loyal to those he considers close to him. Even if he's not exactly friends with someone, he won't let them hang out to dry if he feels they could benefit from companionship.
    • In the manga, he and the other battlefront members are traversing a network of underground caves. They meet Noda in these caves who wrongly assumes Yuri to be married, running away crying due to his sudden love-at-first-sight going unrequited. Hinata is initially dismissive, but when he thinks about it, he insists to Yuri that they go find him and recruit him, simply so he doesn't have to be alone anymore.
  • He's pretty handy with picking locks, and can handle a handgun and sniper rifle proficiently.
  • Hinata is quite charismatic and a social butterfly. He enjoys meeting new people and helping them get settled, even if no one else is being warm and welcoming to that person. He'll go against the crowd to help a loner feel welcome.
    • When Otonashi arrives in the afterlife and joins the battlefront, Hinata and Yuri are the only two who are trying to be kind and accommodating to him. When Yuri is busy doing other things, Hinata continues to be very friendly towards him, hanging back with him and explaining the things that might be confusing or overwhelming to help him get acclimated. Even after he's gotten comfortable, Hinata remains there as a loyal friend.
  • Hinata can be selfless when he thinks it's for the greater good, not hesitating to sacrifice himself.
    • In one instance, the battlefront members get caught falling into a pit, grabbing hold of each other to avoid falling, creating a human ladder up to the ledge. Hinata and Otonashi are at the bottom of the chain, and Hinata is holding Yuri's ankles. The weight is too much, so she complains that they're too heavy. Without a moment's hesitation, Hinata asks if she wants him to let go so the weight is relieved from her and she can climb to safety. Even if the fall would be fatal to himself and Otonashi.

Weaknesses:
  • Despite his good intentions, he's gullible and easy to sway. If someone with some form of superiority over him tells him something, he's likely to believe it.
    • When Hinata was alive, he was told he was responsible for his team losing a massively important baseball game. Stricken with self-hatred and at a complete loss for words, his upperclassman offered him some type of drug to relieve the emotional pain he was feeling. He took it, leading to him becoming a junkie while he slowly let all of his friends, his family, and his happiness slip away from him. When finally trying to seek help for his debilitating addiction, he was hit by a truck and killed.
    • Once in the afterlife, he meets Yuri, who has been there for a while before he arrived, and she seems to have a handle on what's going on. He immediately latches onto her and for a little while, he hangs on her every word, until he's comfortable enough to challenge her.
  • He can't allow himself to think that someone is a lost cause.
    • When Takamatsu becomes an NPC, turning into an emotionless husk, Hinata confronts him and tries to get him to understand. However, it becomes obvious to everyone else that he's become a lost cause and will not be able to understand who they are. Yuri firmly tells him to leave the situation alone several times before he hesitantly does it.
    • Later on, when Yuri explains that Takamatsu has become an NPC, Hinata does not take this well. He starts shouting and swearing about how unfair it is, showing a rare glimpse of true anger before punching the wall in frustration. He just can't fathom the idea of someone he considered a friend being lost to him.
  • Hinata tends to space out when he should be paying attention, daydreaming or thinking deeply about something important to him. Having died a miserable death, he often thinks back to his life, wondering what he could have done differently and wishing he could fix what was irreparably broken.
    • In episode 4, he is consistently staring off into space and becoming distant, daydreaming about the one mistake that led to ruining the rest of his life.
  • He has very little patience for people he thinks are a nuisance.
    • Noda has little to no social graces, often being too confrontational and making an idiot of himself. Hinata doesn't hesitate to call him an idiot, both to his face and among others. It probably doesn't help that they share a mutual, unrequited love interest, the two vying for her attention in their own ways.
    • When Yui comes to them, applying for the position of vocalist since Iwasawa has disappeared, Hinata is quick to tell her that she's fired when she starts gushing about how much she loves the members of the band. Later on, when she gives herself a cute nickname, he tackles her and starts wrestling her, obviously not having any patience for it.
  • He plays serious situations off with humor, not taking them as seriously as they should be taken.
    • When Naoi has incapacitated most of the battlefront, leaving them shot up and bloody on the ground, Otonashi comes to their aid, understandably horrified. Naoi kicks a severely injured Hinata onto his back, whose legs are injured to the point of not being able to get up. Otonashi cries out to him and runs to his side, asking if he's alright in a blind panic. The first thing Hinata does is comment on how Otonashi came running to him first... and then jokingly asking him if he's gay. Despite the fact that most of his friends are bleeding and dying around him, he still manages to find room for humor.

(I'm more than happy to do a Q&A if this doesn't suffice!)

[The audio feed haphazardly begins with the sound of rusting grass and a male voice swearing softly. Perhaps the innocent book had been kicked?] This is... a journal?

[There is more rustling, sounding as if the journal has been picked up off the ground.]

Ah... wow, this is kind of neat...

[The camera snaps a picture, and the image of a stunned Japanese boy with blue hair becomes his icon.] Ah- it has a camera!? Amazing...

[After playing with it and pressing buttons for a moment, he seems to realize that he's actually being recorded. Scrolling through the names the journal shows him, he sees a couple of familiar ones, but also tons of people he's never met.] Phew... Yurippe must have started recruiting NPCs for there to be this many... [Oh right. Being recorded.]

Oi, Yurippe! Where did these journals come from? And do you know who dragged me out into the woods..? It was probably Naoi, the brat even took the meal ticket from my pocket... I'll be back soon!

[The feed ends... but then resumes a few minutes later, but in audio instead of video.] U-um... Yurippe? I'm not even sure she can hear me. Where... did the school go?

[An excited gasp.] Is this level two!? The Lord of the River must have been the final boss, it's so obvious! Angel was just a distraction so we wouldn't progress!

Amazing...

Third Person:

I must have overslept...

A pair of lavender eyes open, the sky peeking through the leaves above him coming gradually into focus. He becomes steadily more aware of himself, the grass beneath him, the trees softly blowing in the breeze above him, his... confusing lack of a shirt? He absently moves one of his hands to rub over his chest.

Yep. Definitely shirtless.

Just to make sure, his hand fumbles downward, making sure he's at least wearing pants. Yes? Good. But... these aren't the pants he fell asleep in, are they? Come to think of it... hadn't he gone to bed in his dorm?

He pulls himself up into a sitting position, reaching up to scratch the back of his neck, peering down at the unfamiliar pants donning his legs. He catches sight of something peripherally, turning to see... his clothing. Neatly folded and pressed, sitting beside him on the grass. He can't help but feel kind of... violated. Who was undressing him!? He gets to his feet, brushing the grass off his backside before bending and retrieving his shirts, starting to pull them on over his head... only to find that they don't fit and oh god what is that on my back.

He whips around to see, but of course that doesn't work, eventually reaching behind him to touch... wings!? He flexes the muscles in his back. The wings tense and relax. He has control over them. They're attached and they hurt.

"A-ahaha... That's... I guess it would be ironic..." He puts his now trembling hand back down at his side, trying not to think too hard about it just yet.

Alright, so the whole wearing a shirt thing isn't going to work out. He collects his clothes up in his arms, prepared to leave the forest and... figure out why he's sprouted wings overnight. Not to mention, find out who had undressed him and carried him outside. The whole situation gave him the chills. He was taking his first few steps out of the woods when he stubs his toe on something, swearing under his breath, looking down to see a journal now lying open in the grass.

"This is... a journal?"

2 - personality

[personal profile] trainwrecking 2013-01-08 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Anything that is iffy or may be explained in possible later canon adaptations is in italics. This is just fanon to support weak points in canon.

Yuzuru Otonashi lives and breathes to assist people, quite literally. He possesses a powerful sense of morality and humanitarianism, though tend to get emotional when he fails to save someone who is depending on him; the redhead doesn't take this particular flavor of failure very gracefully. Despite his young age he will go to heroic lengths to help someone, even if this compromises his own health and welfare.

Otonashi is naturally careful and well-mannered unless a life is at stake. Generally, he prefers grounded logic and struggles to wrap his head around the supernatural for instance, and can only accept otherwordly concepts after experiencing them first-hand. Overall, he is a thinker, not a dreamer. That said, before his death he was shown to appreciate playing video games, so he enjoys fantasy and gaming as much as one might expect out of a teenaged boy, and he is familiar with gamer terms (NPC for Non-player-character, for example).

Due to his warm demeanor, he is typically quite easy to talk to; though sometimes he has very little to offer in terms of reassuring words, he is an excellent and willing listener. More than once has someone spilled deeply personal events to him, and each time he has been accepting and accommodating. The act of listening to someone vent may be a step to that person healing, which in turn is a massive fulfillment to him.

In everyday situations, Yuzuru appears a touch meek. Even though he will step in to assist someone when they need it, sometimes he just cannot connect with them otherwise and might not converse with them outside of missions. Rarely does he approach people just for the sake of approaching them despite how friendly and soft he is. The people around him often have to drag him into a situation to force him to be social, but without their interference he struggles with it a bit more.

In Episode 4, Hinata drags him into a group immediately to play baseball, but in Episode 6 when he approaches Angel alone to offer a brief social outing, his voice sounds shakier and he stammers more. This is most likely due to his asocial tendencies pre-death. He spent his time away from people and his parents are never shown. (From the information given, he may not even remember them.) Therefore, Otonashi probably lived a lonely life. Being a social butterfly and life of the party is out of the question, but Otonashi is not a social reject either.

Asocial does not mean anti-social, however. Otonashi will not unabashedly insult or count someone out unless under duress. He was rather brash when he arrived in the afterlife, but only because he was being fed unbelievable information all at once, all of which lead to distress and confusion. When Yuri asks him for an opinion on their group's name early on, Otonashi replies with "Screw You Battlefront." Beyond extreme pressure and confusion, he tends to keep harsh opinions to himself and if he has the knowledge to, he can even be a decent leader. He just has to stay level-headed and there has to be a need for him to lead.

Though he is usually polite, he will not stand for outright abuse from others and will at least express his displeasure if someone hurts him. Nothing unusual there. He is not prone to grudges, but he does remember when someone has lashed out at him. Take Noda, for example; Otonashi doesn't hate Noda, but he is never really close and friendly with him either. Just neutral.

Once he is comfortable with a friend, he will happily jest with them. This is most commonly seen in his interactions with his canon best friend, Hideki Hinata and their infamous questions of each other's sexual preferences, along with playful badgering and borderline flirting (Usually on Hinata's end).

In a dire setting, he'll easily voice his opinions, concerns, and even be willing to fight when he needs to. Just because there are rules in place doesn't mean he will blindly stick to the program if his feelings conflict with it. As one might imagine, injuring a fellow human being is not his favorite thing in the world, but he won't let himself go down without a fight if he can help it either. Monster-like or otherwise faceless enemies seem to be less of an emotional challenge for him since he really cannot relate to them on any human level. He will step up to challenges, but that doesn't mean he'll always be the most confident person out there. Yuzuru will never be a hardened, calculated warrior.

And on that note, there is such a thing as being too kind for one's own good. This selfless behavior, while admirable and desirable in a person, has cost him his own health and welfare in the past. Whether he is overworking himself for the sake of another or internalizing too much of his own hurt, this trait has bitten him quite hard. During an earthquake, a train he was riding fell victim to a tunnel collapse, killing most of the passengers on board and injuring the few survivors. Otonashi himself suffered from internal bleeding, but kept the injury secret from the other survivors for the sake of keeping morale. Due to the disaster, the rescue effort to dig the other passengers out took 7 days, and Otonashi succumbed to his injuries as the tunnel was being uncovered. Everyone, sans one heavily injured passenger and Otonashi himself, survived the ordeal because of Otonashi's medical knowledge and selflessness.

Otherwise, when asked he will talk about himself to the best of his ability, but he will only do so if he is certain ― absolutely certain ― that the person he is speaking with is in good health and of sound mind. He refuses to unnecessarily tax someone else.

Overall, though? Yuzuru is generally sweet, often quiet, and just out find his place in the world. While he's at it, maybe he can make it a better place.

3 - strengths/weaknesses

[personal profile] trainwrecking 2013-01-08 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Strengths:

Humane:
No matter how hectic the world around him might become, Otonashi is a steadfast humanitarian. Before his death, his motivation to live was either for to be there for his terminally-ill little sister or to become a doctor himself. In the afterlife that the canon takes place in, his medical abilities have no use since the characters cannot die again and all injuries heal quickly.

Book-smart:
Though Otonashi is an amnesiac for the first half of Angel Beats!, he does remember some of his studies even if he doesn't know why. Later in canon but before he gets his memory back, he is shown to have no trouble taking a physics test. It seems to come to him naturally. Though this canon point pre-dates the test itself, he still has the knowledge in the back of his mind.

Sympathetic:
This works in tandem with the humanitarian part of him. Otonashi often feels sympathy for the misunderstood and lonely. During testing, Otonashi finds it deplorable that nobody has bothered to learn Angel's proper name, so he leaves to find out for himself. This ends with him conversing directly with her, however, and feeling rather sorry for how pitiful she seems to be.

When Otonashi finds Ayato Naoi abusing his group of friends, he does not react violently. Though he is not afraid to use necessary force to stun and subdue the other boy, he resolves the situation with understanding and acceptance. Because Otonashi sympathized with Naoi's unjust life, he found that the other boy wanted nothing but acknowledgement.

Moral:
Most of the time, the SSS is extremely loud and opinionated. The group acts out with little to no regard for the rules. The SSS has no issue with breaking into a girl's dorm room, while Otonashi speaks out against it. His moral compass is more rigid, and he generally wants to give people the benefit of the doubt. This is both a strength and a weakness.

Weaknesses:

Weak (physical):
He is weak in comparison to some of the other SSS members and supernatural beings. That is, he is human and not some kind of athlete or martial arts master like Shiina, Noda, or Matsushita, other SSS members. He is susceptible to any problem a normal human might have and, since he was not all that participatory in life, he is not particularly amazing at any sport. He is merely average.

At his canon point, he is not even all that proficient with an easy-to-handle gun. Again, he can handle it somewhat, but he is by no means impressive.

Inflexible: (mental, not physical)
Though Otonashi can usually compromise for the sake of peacekeeping, he struggles to "meet in the middle" when it comes to his belief system. Breaking into a girl's dorm room is absolutely deplorable, as seen in episode 3; Otonashi's immediate reaction is to throw a fit at everyone else's disrespect. His unwillingness to see beyond his own rigid sense of right and wrong gets him into trouble.

Throughout the series, he occasionally struggles to accept abstract concepts that do not match up with his idea of what is normal. For instance, though these characters cannot truly "die" in canon, he feels the need to apologize when he leaves some of them to die. He also fears death much more than he needs to and has been known to stay with the unconscious form of a "fallen" friend until they inevitably wake up.

Mild/meek:
Without the outgoing members of the SSS, Otonashi might be quite the lonely person. As easy as it is to talk to him, he so rarely approaches other people first: even when he cares for them and clearly enjoys having real friends. He is more reserved than the other members, and though he is not horribly shy or completely inept, he will not usually strike up conversation unless he has a goal in mind.

He stammers and drops quite a few "ums" and "uhs" in casual speech, whereas when he is firmly defending his beliefs or trying to lead the group his voice is much stronger. Otonashi can be very strong and diplomatic, but he isn't able to keep this up constantly. Underneath that, he comes off as a little bit awkward and sometimes timid. At least until he's comfortable with you.

Worrier/Selfless:
This boy is going to age himself very quickly if he keeps worrying about everything. Very rarely does he let himself relax and enjoy the shenanigans of the SSS, as insane as they are. Most of the time, he acts as the voice of reason or a friend to the misunderstood. As great as this is, he does tend to take on the problems and pain of others without considering an outlet for himself. While his friends might be joking and laughing amongst themselves, Otonashi may be standing off to the side, pondering someone's fate or the world around him.

Because he tends to shoulder people's problems and neglect his own (something that exacerbated the problem of his failing health right before his death), the selfless trait works both ways.

Trainingwings Voice Post

&

[There's a soft sigh and the rustling of journal pages. This is it? A journal?]

I guess I have nothing to lose by trying this out... This looks like a camera. A feed? [A deep breath and a beat follows.]

Ahhh... [Ahem.] Hello? Is this working? I woke up here ―[without a shirt]― and I'm not sure where I am. The last thing I remember... [Pause, and the words die there.]

Is this where the penalty game is?! In this... field?!

Third Person:

If he had a meal ticket for every time he woke up in an unfamiliar and potentially hostile setting, Otonashi might just be set for the semester. His eyes shoot open, taking in the distant sky above him. Everything would have seemed normal; it was this nagging at his back and the feel of dirt against his bare skin that alarmed him.

"Why am I... outside? I was..." Slowly, he sat up. The new pair of wings curled against his back, not immediately catching his attention.

"Uhh... Right. Yuri, I was going―" Rubbing at his mouth, he looked up. So he remembered what his plans had been, but then what was with his distinct lack of a shirt? He blinked, looked at his sides for any signs of his dress shirt or even just his jacket; instead, he noticed feathers.

Not just feathers though: wings. The more he stared at them, the more real they seemed to feel, until he reached out to touch one of them. Sure enough, the wing twitched. He felt it.

"W-what is this..?" Another touch, another jolt sent up the length of the wings right into his back. "What in the world is this?! Did I disappear? Is this what they meant about getting reborn?! I-I... I'm still a human, aren't I?!"

Though he had been so casual about using his hands, Otonashi felt the need to look his limbs over more closely now. His skin looked and felt no different, and on closer inspection of his body and immediate surroundings, he noticed a stray journal. Hands trembling, he picked it up off the grass and hesitated. Should he be reading someone else's diary?

He cringed at the thought of invading someone's privacy, but panicking in an open field was going to get him nowhere. It was a resource, and if it ended up being an embarrassing girl's diary or someone's written pornography, he could always put it back and never speak of it again, right?

The redhead released a deep, even breath, then he turned the page. Oh. It's... haha, it's empty. All that fuss over this empty― huh? A... camera lens?

Ewan | Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (part 2)

[personal profile] cuteisawayoflife 2013-01-08 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Character

Name: Ewan
Fandom: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Time Period: After the death of Queen Ismaire
Wing Color: Tan

History: Ewan's first memory is of his older sister smiling and telling him they'd be all right. The second child born to poor commoners in Jehanna's streets, he grew up clinging to her cloaks and watching her dance for strangers who tossed coins at her feet. Even when her soles hurt and bled and blistered, Tethys still smiled. They came to rely on each other for everything, even when Tethys joined with a group of mercenaries led by a man named Gerik.

When he grew older, Ewan was discovered by Saleh, a sage living in the Caer Pelyn mountain range. Saleh and his grandmother took Ewan in, and shortly afterwards Saleh noticed the boy's potential for magic. Though clumsy and overeager at first, Ewan proved to be an eager pupil and despite his propensity for trouble, Saleh continued to teach him everything he knew.

Some years later, Grado suddenly started a war. The monsters of the old legends began to pop up, and suddenly Ewan found himself involved in the whole mess when his mentor went off to rescue the young dragon girl he'd been guarding. Fortunately, he'd honed his skills by then and was able to assist Princess Eirika and the rest of the party.

Their travels eventually brought them to Jehanna, Ewan's old home. But alas, even the barest hint of a happy homecoming wasn't in the cards; Grado general Callaech not only destroyed the Sacred Stone, but killed the beautiful Queen Ismaire in cold blood and burned down the palace. With nowhere else to go, the army fled into the desert, where more Grado troops awaited them.

Personality: Cheerful and mischevious with a zest for life, Ewan wants to know and learn as much as he can about the world, especially magic. He's a bit of a trickster, fond of riddles and brain-teasers; his friend Ross is one of his favorite targets for these things, and his other friend and possible crush Amelia is the target of his more "naughty" jokes.

Despite being the younger sibling, he can be pretty protective of his sister, largely as a result of her being the only family he had for so long. Tethys is very popular with the men of the army, and he knows what they're after. Since he can't exactly stop them, he'll settle for pranking the men; a frog in the boots or a half-shaved moustache or too much pepper in their stew.

He's very reverent of his mentor, practically worships the ground Saleh walks on and holds him up as the golden standard for all practicioners of magic. Having never known his father, Saleh is the closest thing he's ever had even though Ewan has never technically seen him as such.

Tethys is also very important to him, despite his constant teasing and causing her trouble. One of his reasons for wanting to get better with his magic is so that he can protect her and look after her, like she always did for him when they were younger.

Strengths:: Ewan is bright and cheery with a real zest for life and an optimistic outlook. He prefers to look on the bright side of things and focus on the fun side of life. He tries to keep everyone laughing, or at least on their toes.

He's eager to learn and quite intelligent, with a strong talent for magic to boot and generally optimistic. His desire to do his very best keeps him trying no matter what; even if he fails or makes a mistake, he doesn't dwell on it for very long.

While still a novice mage, he's already a sure hand with a Thunder spell and is getting better. He's fast, he's sure-footed and his strikes never miss; even though he has a long way to go until he catches up to his teacher, he's strong and handy to have on your side in a fight.

Weaknesses: Ewan's curiosity and zest for life come with the unfortunate side effect of recklessness. He's known for leaping before he looks, seldom thinking about the consequences of his actions and just doing what he thinks is best or the most fun.

He favors "making things fun" a bit too much at times, often needing to be reminded to take things a little more seriously. His tricks are never malicious, but they're often pretty bothersome to those around him.

Physically, while he's capable of dealing damage, he's not the strongest when it comes to taking blows. He focuses too much on attacking rather than defensive capabilities, and this has put his life in danger more than once.

First Person: Hey, this isn't the desert...did Grado give up? That's not like them, though. What if it's a trap?! What if there's monsters coming, and-

Hey...where's everyone else? This doesn't look like Magvel at all! Where's my clothes? Hey, what's with my back? It feels weird, like-

-oh! Oh, neato! Wings! Hey, I wonder if I can fly now, like a human pegasus! Up up, and away! ...I said, up up, and away! ...huh. Maybe they need magic to work. I should look around and see if there's anyone I can ask about that!

Third Person: Ewan crumpled the letter and tossed it over his shoulder for what seemed like the millionth time that day. You can't send mail home from here, he remembered. He wished he could, though, there was so much he wanted to tell them! People from all kinds of different places, those weird creatures with their own magic powers (Pokemon, he remembered them being called), the buildings, the forest. Plus, everything in the shops was free! What could be better?

But even better than letters, he wished they could just be here. Amelia would love the Pokemon, he thought. Ross might get a kick out of them, too, or at least the battle dome. Tethys would find a big audience for her dances...and some of the technology here was astounding! If Uncle Dozla could see it all, he'd go wild with joy that...well, some of their ideas had become the real thing.

But then, he'd remember they were back on Magvel, fighting a war, and he'd worry. How did the people here know time actually stopped in his world while he was here? What if they were being attacked by more and more Grado soldiers at this very moment?

The only thing he could do was hope they were safe.

Character

Name: Sophie Coolidge
Gender: Female
Age: 4
Wing Color: White
Physical Appearance Here!
History: Sophie Coolidge was born to Senel Coolidge and Stella Telmes in Luceti on July 3 in Cycle Year 1. She was the first child to be born in Luceti and was something of a surprise to both her parents. Neither had been expecting to have children in Luceti, both due to the unstable nature of the enclosure and because Stella is deceased on her home world.

As Sophie grew, there were a few surprises in store for her parents. The first of such discoveries was her ability to breathe underwater. Her mother was a Ferines, a water-breathing species that rarely intermarried with the humans — or Orerines — of her world. It had been uncertain how much of each parent’s species’ traits Sophie would inherit. It was also discovered at this time that Sophie’s hair glowed when she breathed underwater, the same as a full-blooded Ferines.

From her father, Sophie gained the ability to use iron eres, or the magic of the world of Melfes. This at first manifested when her magic boosted her strength during a game of catch with Stella, resulting in her mother being hit with a beanbag hard enough to momentarily daze her.

As she grew, it became apparent that Sophie was by nature a quiet child, rather self-contained, and more inclined to explore her world with her hands than by sight and sound alone. Overall, she was well behaved (though prone to stubbornness), making little trouble for her caretakers.

Her self-contained nature proved to be fortunate—a number of changes were in store for Sophie during her first few years. Her aunt, Shirley, appeared in April, before Sophie’s first birthday; her aunt's closest friend, Fenimore, came in December of that year. Unfortunately, her father disappeared a year later, never to reappear.

In August of Cycle Year 3, her mother disappeared, leaving her in the care of her aunt. September saw the reappearance of the unreliable Grune, but the disappearance of her fellow housemate Walter, and in November of Cycle Year 4, to Sophie’s joy, her mother returned. This family reunion did not last, however; in January, Shirley disappeared for good.

For a while, Sophie’s life stabilised and, now approaching her third birthday, she grew increasingly attached to the residents of House 34 – Stella, Fenimore, and Grune. Not long after her birthday, Walter returned as well and as time went on, he began spending more time with her and left behind his resentment of her. Finally, Norma appeared as well and quickly became both a mentor and a playmate to Sophie.

However, that fall was the time of the greatest loss Sophie had yet to experience: the final disappearance of her mother. While she had been too young at the time of the loss of her father to have strong memories of him, it was another matter entirely now. With the last of her family gone and now that she was left in the care of Fenimore — the only remaining stable influence in her life — Sophie regressed. She became withdrawn, prone to fits of temper and bedwetting. Only as the weeks and months passed did she recover from her loss – a little quieter and less demonstrative than before

Currently, Sophie is four and a half years old. Her family – Fenimore, Norma, Walter, and Grune – has been stable for over a year, and she’s formed unique bonds with all of them. Fenimore is her primary caretaker and the one she most wants to emulate. Walter teaches her about her Ferines heritage and how to control her eres. Norma teaches her how to read in the Ferines language of Relares and plays with her. And Grune is the warm, never-ending source of hugs, sweets, and crayons.

It’s a good life for a little girl – as long as she doesn’t once again experience the sudden loss of a member of her family.

[personal profile] lostinmyway 2013-01-08 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Sophie is a quiet and largely undemonstrative little girl. While she does have fun and play like any child her age, she isn’t the sort to beam away or become too hyperactive and generally keeps a rather solemn demeanour. She’s stubborn and very difficult to scare – and if she is scared or upset, she’s more likely to get angry than to burst into tears.

Over the past year or so, she’s begun picking up traits from her fellow housemates in typical, age-related imitation. She copies Fenimore the most, but she also has adopted Grune’s tendency to comfort people through physical expressions of affection, she tries writing Relares like Norma (with limited success), and she likes pretending she can pull off Walter’s highly advanced combat style. Despite the many losses she’s faced in her short life and the resulting attachment problems from so many sudden disappearances, she’s come to love the residents of House 34 as her family.

Strengths: Mental: Sophie is bright and curious. The world around her is an interesting place and she likes examining it for herself, usually through touch or by doing things (such as climbing unattended ladders). She’s reasonably intelligent for her age, but not more than your average four-year-old girl.

Emotional: Sophie is highly independent for a four year old. After all the changes to her life and after living with the results of so many experiments, little bothers her and she takes everything unusual in stride. She’s more or less fearless, which combines rather poorly with her go-out-and-do-it approach to life.

She’s also very resilient and stubborn and doesn’t like to be helped. When it comes to conflict, she’s far more likely to react with a punch than tears, which combines rather poorly with her unusual physical abilities.

Physical: Sophie is a fledgling iron eren. This means that, when she focuses, her fingernails will glow and she gets a boost to her strength, putting her on par with a typical adult. Currently, she’s working on control with Walter; later, a variety of physical attacks will be available to her.

She also has her Ferines species traits. The most notable of them would be her ability to breathe underwater (during which her hair glows blue) and the potential to swim with far more skill that a typical human. Currently, she hasn't had much opportunity to take advantage of either of these traits, though that's very likely to change in the near future.

Finally, she has the potential to create what's known as a teriques when she becomes a teenager. Teriques are essentially the projection of a Ferines' soul, which manifest themselves in different ways depending upon the individual. For example, Walter's teriques allows him to fly; the teriques of Shirley, Sophie's aunt, allowed her to capture and transport people in spheres of light.

However, this won't come into effect for almost a decade, and so potential is all she'll have for quite some time.

Weaknesses: Mental: Sophie is, in the end, only four years old. Her reasoning skills are low, she has a hazy though improving concept of time and so generally lives in the moment, and while she’s been receiving age appropriate lessons from Norma and Walter, she’s only at the beginning of her education. As well, she isn't very good at risk-assessment skills and her expectations of what she can accomplish frequently far outstrip her abilities. All of this means she needs heavy supervision to safely live in Luceti.

Emotional: With all her blood relatives vanished not long after her third birthday, Sophie is perhaps a little too independent and slow to form attachments. While her family situation has been stable for over a year now, that could change any moment.

In addition, having almost no contact with children throughout her life has resulted in Sophie having extreme difficulty relating to her peers. She is far more comfortable with adults and is ignorant of how to interact with children. While she has playmates in Norma and Grune, Sophie currently has no one to look to so she can see how to be a child.

Physical: Despite her eres, Sophie is usually no stronger than a four year old. Her coordination, especially her fine motor control, is still developing (though it is still above average for her age) and she has no way to defend herself. Overall, she’s very much a typical little girl in this respect.

First Person: Q&A, please!

Third Person:

Sophie had a big problem: she needed to decide which game to play next.

Her options were pretty limited right now. In the absence of Norma and her bubble straw, Sophie had chased imaginary bubbles all over the garden until, puffing away, she’d plopped down on the grass. Wally was gone and Fen was busy. Gee Girl was in the garden with her, but she said that she needed to help the flowers. Probably she could help the flowers with Gee Girl, but she didn’t want to. And she couldn’t go find Wally because she wasn’t supposed to go out of the garden by herself.

Maybe Gee Girl was done helping the flowers. She should go look.

She pushed herself to her feet. “Gee Girl!”

The answer she got back wasn’t “Yes, dear?” or “Hmm?” but a loud squawk. She looked up. Ques looked down from his nest. (Ques was a peepit, a giant bird at least as tall as Fen with really big feathers. Fen said that he was from the Legacy, which was why he was the only one in Luceti right now. )

Oh. She was under his tree.

…Now she knew who she wanted to play with.

“Ques!” she called up to him. “Come here!”

Ques squawked at her again but stayed in his nest.

“Come here!” she repeated.

Ques just looked at her.

Sophie glared up at him. “Come here!”

When he didn’t move, she nearly yelled even louder, but then she remembered that Ques always came down for a treat. He liked peaches, but she didn’t have any and she didn’t know where to find them. But that was okay. She knew what to do.

She bent down and ripped up a handful of grass, then held it up. “Come here, Ques! I gotta treat!”

Ques made a sound that seemed pretty happy, she thought, and hopped out of his tree with lots of wing-flapping. When he was on the ground, he nudged her hand with his beak.

“Here,” she said and opened her hand. Bits of grass drifted away on the breeze.

Ques kept nudging away at her hand, looking for the food. She pushed it at him. “Here.”

Ques croaked and gave up. He started preening his feathers.

Sophie let the rest of the grass fall away. She then patted his side. “Down.”

He swung his head around to look at her.

She reached way up and thumped on his back. “Go down.”

Finally, Ques sat down with a grumbly noise.

“Good Ques,” she told him.

She then swung a leg over his back and sat down. She got a good grip on his long neck.

Okay. She was ready.

“Up, Ques!”

“Sophie, what are you doing?”

Sophie glanced over to see Fen running towards her with a grocery bag in each hand.

“I’m going on a ride,” she said. “Up, Ques!”

“No, you aren’t – get off that bird right now!” Fen said right back.

“But I wanna go on a ride,” she insisted.

“You’re too heavy – Ques can’t carry you.” Fen bent down and picked her up; Sophie scowled but clung on. “Ask Walter when he gets home.”

Sophie stuck out her lip for a moment – then blew out a sigh. “’Kay.”

At least she had somebody to play with now. She’d just have to go for a ride on Ques later….

Serah Farron | Final Fantasy XIII-2 | personality

[personal profile] redemption 2013-01-08 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Cheerful, curious, and optimistic, Serah is a notable contrast to her intense, taciturn older sister. Relatively(!) normal as FF characters go, she's established early-on as fashionable and capable of easily making friends, and with her stellar grades and eyes set forward toward university, pre-PLOT she seems pretty set for having a good life in her floating utopia homeland of Cocoon. All things considered, she's a pretty well-balanced eighteen year old woman, save for-- or perhaps especially because of her older, scruffy boyfriend that her guardian figure disapproves of.

If only that was the end of it, though.

In the first game, Serah mostly serves as a catalyst. Her curiosity towards a change in the giant ominous structure looming over her town betrays her, and in exploring it she promptly becomes marked as a Pulse l'Cie. Cocoon natives are fastidiously trained to fear anything from Gran Pulse, and at first Serah is no different. Frightened, she turns to trying to shove Snow away, underestimating the man's love, and even when convinced that they can figure something out together, soon afterward she advises Vanille on a "face it later" approach to problems.

Regardless, this is the first time we see just how strong-willed she can be if supported by those she trusts. Even though she has little reason to believe that there's truly anything but bleakness in her own fate and the changes quickly beginning within Cocoon, still she tells Snow, Lightning, and the others gathered when they eventually find her trapped inside the Vestige (while the residents of her hometown are being slaughtered by the government outside) that they must save Cocoon-- and then crystallizes as if she's completed her Focus. It should have been impossible. Her Focus was to destroy Cocoon.

Through the tear left with Snow after her crystallization, Serah bared witness to most of the ups and downs throughout the story, and was there after Cocoon was saved and Etro releases the l'Cie from their bonds. However, what should have been happy quickly turns into a nightmare for Serah in particular instead- even though she distinctly remembers Lightning being there with them as well, everybody else insists she must be with Fang and Vanille in the crystal pillar or worse: dead.

In New Bodhum, despite her cheerfulness, with Lightning and eventually Snow having left her behind, Serah feels a lot of guilt and loneliness because of the situation around her. She has the ability to be independent, but it is something that has to be developed across her journey- particularly in her time with Noel. Before her true colors begin to show, it's as if Serah wants to be protected- after her parents died, Lightning was the one to take care of her; the man she falls in love with is a self-proclaimed Hero; when both Lightning and Snow are gone, NORA attempts to take care of her. Notably, when she's attacked... she calls out for Lightning, instead of trying to protect herself. She relies strongly on others, whether it be her sister, her fiance, or her partner in Noel.

Eventually, she decides it's her turn to protect those she cares for... and her already-existing self-sacrificial nature promptly takes a turn for the intense. Because she has the Eyes of Etro, and she and Noel keep changing history, she knows that there's a very good chance that she will not survive to see the ending credits what they've brought about. For the sake of saving the world, she decides to go through with it anyway.

Serah is hardly the most ... polished of heroines, however. She can be uncertain and easily persuaded of things- especially if she trusts the person or is trying not to step on toes; she often jumps to conclusions and believes in the good of things so wholeheartedly that she can come across as a bit naive or even gullible at times. While she possesses the ability to see a problem and the pieces that can help solve the puzzle, it may take her feeling it out first before she settles on a solution.

Because of this, Serah is fairly careful- not exactly suspicious most of the time, but even if she blurts something out or is inclined towards having odd opinions about things, she does also think things through before she fully commits. Even though she's surprisingly tolerant of the words of some random guy who shows up in the midst of a monster attack, claiming to be from the future and sent to collect Serah from her MIA sister, she's sure to gather information from him and seek the opinions of her friends first. And, although perhaps it's not quite an as understandable example, she also keeps quiet on her suspicions that the Eyes of Etro are having a detrimental effect on her.

As mentioned before, although she doesn't really look it - and a lot of the time doesn't act like it - Serah's optimistic will is very, very strong. Even when she was the ill-fated girl who needed to be saved by the others, tossed off to the side as little more than a plot device, she is still the first of the Pulse l'Cie to not just deny her Focus, but to push the others to do the same and come out pretty well-off given the circumstances. Although when she meets Caius in the Void Beyond he clearly overpowers her, she refuses to bow to his attempts to demoralize her and then is quick to reject the dream world that promised her such relief and happiness away from her difficult journey and problems. Eventually, when she dies and her spirit appears to the distraught Lightning, she still insists that everything will be okay.

Serah Farron | Final Fantasy XIII-2 | strengths & weaknesses

[personal profile] redemption 2013-01-08 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Strengths:
Serah was turned into what her world would consider a monster, became a potentially eternal crystal, was saved but then became the only person who remembered the proper passage of events, called a liar or believed to be living a fantasy when she insists that Lightning did survive the fall of Cocoon... and then the love of her life ran off into the wilderness, disappearing for years with no word.

Still, she moves on.

Emotionally, while many people in her situation would break down, Serah is strong enough to face it, knowing how important rebuilding after the heyday of life in Cocoon has crumpled. For all of her obvious surprise at this thing or that, at her core she's steady, and her cute appearance hides a lot of intelligence, a woman with a strong interest in history and the ability to be a schoolteacher without any actual formal training for such a job. While not always the most tactful, she's good at getting to the root of peoples' problems. She's empathetic to what people need... from kindness up to and including a considerable amount of sternness if required (AKA, her students are sort of scared of her).

She's certainly not a pushover, because although she's not really a fighter to begin with, Serah's quick to learn the art of monster-killing and boss fights alike regardless. Her physical weapon is Mog, a moogle who turns into a transformable bowsword, and she rapidly develops a nimble style reminiscent of a particular other pink-haired woman. Like Lightning, she's also strongly magical as well, particularly in offensive (Ravager) and healing (Medic) magic. As if she might have learned it from her fiance, she also starts off with the guarding 'Sentinel' role, and can eventually learn Synergist and Saboteur abilities as well (buffing and debuffing, respectively).

Weaknesses:
Serah is not a soldier. She is a fairly petite, twenty-one year old schoolteacher. As a result, she's certainly not as physically strong as someone like Noel or her older sister, and when compared to the people who have actually had more training than just being handed a magic bowsword and told to defend herself, she's noticeably less coordinated. It isn't uncommon for her to be knocked down, forced to drop her weapon, lose her footing and nearly fall a bazillion feet to her death, etc.

Behind her easy smile and willingness to keep morale up and the interactions between those around her peaceful, Serah does still suffer a lot of guilt, uncertainty, and sadness- things which are often hidden studiously to avoid treading on the spirits of her friends. Unselfishness can be a good thing, and in her story arc it often is, but she also often takes it to a degree where she's left pushed to the side (Snow declaring to Noel that their wedding is on hold and her saying nothing- despite acknowledging via voiceover that she is both sad and angry at his behavior) or hiding her pain for the sake of others (her refusing to acknowledge that she's seeing the future- an act that is specifically stated to steal the life away of the person experiencing it... amongst several other incidents).

She can also just flat-out be a derp at times too, let's be honest. Sometimes it is a wonder people take her seriously when she's babbling about things that obviously show her as being from a totally different time period without restraint.

First Person:
Hello, everyone. I'm Serah- Serah Farron, that is.

[ The journal shows a politely-smiling young woman, toying with a ponytail tied to the side in her long pink hair- something that was apparently put up only moments beforehand. The urgency of her message could barely wait, obviously. ]

I was wondering if anyone could help me. You see, I'm looking for... a friend of mine. Mog. He's-- well. [ ... ] A moogle. I guess you could say he looks kind of like a stuffed animal. White, red nose, little wings and a bobble...

[ ... Despite the smile she puts on for the camera, there's a touch of something like pleading in her demeanor too, as if she's half-concerned people might not believe her; she's clearly anxious about her fantastical little friend, and slowly, her expression grows even more worried as she seems to think about it. ]

He-- there's a weapon, too. It looks like a bow, but also turns into a sword. It doesn't really... resemble anything else around, so it's pretty hard to miss.

[ Blinking... blinking... but then finally, she pulls her smile back into place. ]

Anyway, ah... any help would be appreciated! [ ANYTHING ELSE? ] -- Oh, and if anyone sees a guy wandering around named Noel... tell him I'm looking for him too, alright? Thanks...

Third Person:
Serah's legs still itched. Even as she bent to run her hands over them, crossed her arms in a vain attempt to bring some warmth to her bare skin there, her lower calves and ankles were apparently unwilling to let her forget the grass and tiny feathers that had been sticking to them only minutes beforehand, sneaking down into her boots, wet with the precipitation that the Bresha Ruins now seemed so inclined to attract. Even though she was completely clean (and freezing in the chill air here without her proper clothing), like the confusion running circles in her mind, her limbs seemed unwilling to let go of what should be.

Not that Serah wasn't plenty familiar with ending up in odd places, but... well, when she'd been nowhere near a Gate and there had been no signs of something awry in the environment, finding herself suddenly here was nothing less than disorienting. She was sure if there was anything wrong, Mog at least would have warned her beforehand!

Of course, neither the moogle or Noel was anywhere to be found, now.

And even more importantly, clearly there was something wrong, because even if weird things were always happening to her and surprise seemed to almost be her default state, she couldn't think of any reasons for the abrupt loss of the outfit she'd awakened in on that fateful night Noel appeared in New Bodhum. Not unless something had gone terribly wrong with the timeline or... she really wasn't sure.

There was also the wings attached firmly to her back as well; "strange" didn't quite cover that little discovery. Serah wasn't sure that even "bizarre" managed to convey the bewilderment she experienced when she felt down over her shoulder-blade, tugged on one of the feathery appendages, and suffered pain in it for her trouble.

Regardless, phantom-itching, sudden loneliness, and disorientation aside, the young woman had little other choice but to explore her options apart from staying where she'd woken- specifically, the ones that likely included getting inside and somewhere warmer. She didn't know where she was, but she could see buildings nearby. All she could hope was that whoever lived here was friendly, right...?

Character

Name: Aleos Sadres ( Aldreios Hayasu Neruyl )
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Wing Color: Yellow from the base blending into blue, similar to this.
Physical Appearance: Icons, beyond that he stands at 5'6" and has dark green leaves at his wrists resembling oak leaves, and faint dark blue markings traveling up his upper left arm that trails onto his neck and face a little, usually hidden away by an illusion. Rarely there may be flowers blooming behind his ears, and his natural wings look like they are transparent and made of energy at a glance, yellow at the base and turning into blue. There is also an old hypertrophic scar extending from his left arm and onto his torso which he keeps hidden as much as possible.

World History: For a large amount of detail, navigate here. Otherwise, the following is a summary with all the basics and necessary.

The legend goes that millennia ago, a group of Humans banded together with the intent of creating a being with an image similar to them, whose purpose would be to protect them as a last ditch effort to survive the persecution set against them for the forbidden experiments they had conducted. Using their magic, they created a seed that would come to be called a sachiria, from whom their guardian was born. This being was called "auria'sejenos," which meant 'eternal flower of the beautiful –.' No one knows what the true translation of the name was meant to be, if this being was of the beginning, or of the end. Thus no one knew if the true purpose of the being born from the sachiria was to protect Humans, or someday destroy them. So when this silver-haired girl was born from the sachiria Humans decided they would take no chance against their future, proceeding to hunt down this flower being. What they were not prepared for was that wherever this child ran, instances of Human children falling to their knees only to become a flower being just like her would occur. This led to a debate over what to do about these transformed children, for while they had been born Human they most certainly were not still considered as such in their new forms. Should they be quarantined until a cure could be found for them, or should they all be slaughtered and the bodies destroyed so that nothing was left, so that there was no risk or contracting this 'plague?' While no agreement was made, different groups took matters into their own hands, with some in favor of saving those who were transformed while others advocated that the problem be nipped in the bud.

Why were Humans afraid of these creatures eliminating them? Because they had every ability to, with wings allowing for flight gracing their backs, and each one able to manipulate a specialized element if it was available. They were physically stronger and mentally than the Humans who created them; in addition, they had at their wrists and behind their ears delicate leaves that served as excess storages of energy, sometimes accompanied by flowers. More frightful about these creations were their abilities to hear 'arias.' Arias allowed for the knowledge of all that was, is and ever will be, and what will never be. Not only did they lead to great power for those of greater patience and skill to listen to them, allowing for calling forth the most powerful magic, but some of these flower beings were able to discern everything about a person by listening to their aria. What they were really like, and what they can amount to. It was the equivalent of reaching into one's soul and discovering the soul's greatest weaknesses. Such an ability was both feared and coveted by Humans, who saw its uses for war. Higher above the other flower beings was a group of thirteen called the Yaneila, who had the ability to actually create the element over which they had control rather than relying on an available source. They were acknowledged as the strongest of the flower beings, as they too had been born from actual flowers rather than being transformed or conceived. Others flocked to them, finding themselves at their strongest when they were around the Yaneila who commanded the same element as they. They would eventually become thirteen clans, each with their own cultures centered around their element, but by no means did that make them drift apart. The flower beings realized that in order to survive and be at their happiest, they all had to stand united as they and their hunters began to realize that they could not survive in isolation, or without loving and being loved by someone living.

While the Yaneila were attempting to gather and protect their fellow brethren, Humans eventually cornered the original being, now mature. As she declared herself and those like her as 'Auria' the Humans killed her, but instead of the affected Humans returning to normal, many began to fall dead as the flower child was stealing the near-immortality from other Auria, ascending as a goddess. In their horror, Humans vowed they would rid the universe of this plague even as more Auria were appearing in great numbers, all unaware of the hate they would come to and determined to uphold the reason for which they were created, to protect Humans. The Yaneila eventually ascended as Auria deities, and their protection continues on in the form of a guardian family to each clan and individuals called Heirs – beings who are incarnations and the avatars of their Yaneila in the realm of the living at any given time. They alone can actually create their element, and it is their duty to be the protective vessel of their clan's Sphere, which is what allowed the other Auria of their clans to live by channeling sachi to each member regardless of distance. Though Heirs have always done their duty the best they could, eventually came a time when the Sphere of one clan was destroyed and killed its subsequent clan, preceeding the closest to extinction Auria have ever been, forcing them to leave their home of Riosna and creating a realm of their own, Orion, protected from breach by their kind's hell, the Sorrows, whose existence various governments seek to confirm and reach. A significant number of Auria continue to live outside of Orion, attempting to play along with the belief that Auria are a myth in most worlds so they are not hunted down out of fear and desire to control them, assisted by the minor illusions they can use on themselves. Still, it is sometimes not enough and they are captured, used in warfare and experiments because they can't fight against the wishes of Humans who have claimed their will. This treatment has begun to divide the Auria between those who wish to continue serving Humans, those who no longer claim it worth it, and those who think it better to end their kind before Humans do. A decision has not been made, and most continue to fulfill their genetic duty from afar.

History pt. 1

Personal History: In an attempt to secure the future of their clan's guardian family after the loss of his son and pregnant wife three years before, Eiji Neruyl sired a pair of twins with a mistress, Raimei Mitsuyo and Aldreios Hayasu. Before the parents were allowed to hold their children the clan elders decided they would be sent to Riosna to be raised by the Human Anna Sadres, whose family long ally of the Neruyl. The reason why was that Raimei had been born the Heir of Lightning, another clan altogether, and Aldreios was inexplicably born Human despite his very pure lineage; his presence in Orion was a danger, and it would be better for him to be raised by Humans and unaware of his heritage. As the twins were delivered to Anna they realized Ryouhei, Eiji's lost son, had been with her all along, but it was too late to reclaim him since he was being raised as the successor of Anna's husband, Lucius, under the identity Ryan Sadres. They were all left with Anna, who promised to raise them as though they were her own and renamed them Aaliya and Aleos. Through well-timed circumstances and sheer luck, Anna was able to fool her husband into thinking the twins were their biological children as he was away in another world at the time; Lucius took kindly to Aaliya, but not Aleos. Both children were sickly, and Aleos struggled to earn Lucius’ affection despite not displaying natural talents his siblings didn't already have. At one point he was able to create pebbles, but when Lucius saw he grew angry and began to proclaim Aleos wasn't his child; in a country like Regar, to have a child who could be Auria would lead to ruin. Ryan and Anna noticed, and while unable to understand how Aleos was able to do such things they attempted to shower him with the love he didn't receive from Lucius, even if it wouldn't do anything for the emotional abuse he had already suffered. For their kindness he strove to make them proud, but he often felt there was something different about his siblings that left him standing alone outside of their circle. Things changed when he was five; the twins had left the safety of the estate's walls, where one of Lucius' enemies pursued and cornered the two children with intent to kill. Aleos tried to protect his sister, but predictably failed and both suffered grave injury as a result. Ryan had noticed the two gone and alerted the estate guards, who came in time to stop the would-be assassin from finishing them. Aleos couldn't help noticing how much more attention Aaliya was receiving from paramedics and their brother, some even stating she was priority because Lucius favoured her more. Feeling betrayed, Aleos slipped in and out of consciousness for three weeks while Lucius made plans to send him to the country of Rowaddon to live with his rivals, the Henderson Family, where he could possibly be useful when he was older. Anna pleaded with her husband, but it was left to her to inform a distraught Aleos of it. Several days after he was sent halfway across Riosna to be handed over to the Hendersons. But when he arrived it was not an agent of the Hendersons who greeted him; it was Ryan, alongside an elderly woman who claimed to be his grandmother, Janice Richard. He wasn't aware Ryan had blackmailed Lucius with Janice's help in order to assure some of Aleos' freedom for the time being, agreeing to remain Lucius' successor as long as he upheld the deal. He did not tell Aleos this, however, and allowed him to continue to quietly hate him.

Despite Aleos' hurt and hostility, Janice placed her efforts in treating and raising him with gentle love, a task made easier when he realized she was Anna's mother and not Lucius'. She told him of stories of her homeland, where they lived peacefully alongside others considered as monsters and killed by much of humanity, who were always kind even though they could have succumbed to hatred instead. She told him he had the capability of the same kindness as they, able to nurture and protect it into something more beautiful than the hurt he experienced from Lucius. Slowly he made amends with his brother and learned from Janice's benevolent examples, cooking alongside her and playing the violin for them. It wasn't always a happy life with Lucius still controlling many aspects of it, but it was warmed significantly when he befriended twins Miaka and Anthony Mareiyes. The peace ended with Janice's passing when Aleos was eight, and with Ryan away for unknown reasons he was sent to live with the Hendersons. They were similar to Lucius in mentality and the way they treated Aleos, who was called weak for being soft-hearted and argued with them often. An engagement to their daughter Mae, who saw him more as property than human, was nearly fulfilled, but Ryan came to Aleos' rescue again after Lucius visited him in Felicity personally. He stalled the engagement and kept the negotiations a secret from Aleos again, returning to living in Janice's residence with the occasional caretaker. The time apart from Ryan and refusal to be wholly honest with Aleos, however, caused a rift to grow again with no Janice to help mend it this time. He became more secluded and verbally lashed out often, unable to express his insecurity otherwise. At eleven he began to exchange correspondence with a potential fiancée, giving him someone he could relate to emotionally and he also began to receive letters from his brother Masaji, whose existence he did not know of until then. Alongside the twins he found out they were a set of triplets, and greeted their sister Aleana when their mother regained custody of her. In Aleana he had someone he could relate to and encourage to open up again, she being just as emotionally frail as he. At fourteen he was admitted to Arash-Meir Academy, the most prestigious school in Rowaddon; though Aleos had wanted to study there, he was left bitter because he knew Lucius had pulled strings so he could attend and study only what he wanted there. One week before term began he met his potential fiancée, shocked to learn she was blind. Rather than turn away, he vowed to break free from Lucius so he could one day help her break free from her own chains as she gifted him a citrine pendant. The first day of term began with a call informing him of the birth of a baby sister, and while the attention his Auria Studies professor gave him did confuse him, it was an otherwise uneventful day until he agreed to accompany Miaka to the Sapphire River, where a girl named Anamai fell from the sky in front of them. Though Aleos was uncertain, Miaka insisted they take her to the Mareiyes household where Ryan and Ms. Mareiyes quickly fabricated a story for her and enrolled her in Arash-Meir, fixing her schedule so she could be with the triplets and Aleos as much as possible while disasters began.

The first one involved great winds and lured Aleos and Miaka to witness Anamai fighting against a teen named Shirou over what would be the Sphere of Air, showing her the brief apparition of a girl and allowing her control of air and sound. The next day a transfer student named Kenji, the younger brother of upperclassman Chiel and Professor Leann Kanasawa began to befriend Aleana and close friend Niara, who also suffered from memory suppression; Aleos by default was suspicious of him due to how protective he was of his friends. Another disaster involving plant life sickening and dying rapidly soon followed, Aleos alongside Miaka and Anamai investigating it only to be confronted by a woman named Inaya, Shirou's mentor trying to obtain the Sphere of Earth nearby. Eventually it was Miaka who claimed it, receiving an apparition of another girl and being allowed control of plant life as it disappeared into her, leaving them unable to retrieve it. Anamai was unable to give any explanations regarding the Spheres, and when the Sphere of Fire caused issues throughout the city she tried to claim it, but it instead went into Aleos. Though the apparition of the woman before him spoke a language he had never heard before, he understood her what she spoke. At that time Mae began to grow jealous of another girl in Aleos' life, and began to bully Anamai relentlessly while others took an interest in her, driving Aleos to stand up for and protect her despite his own suspicions. He found allies in his friend Ian and another transfer student, Natalia, while they were occasionally accompanied by Kenji despite his sisters' protests. The group of nine stuck up for one another as the city became more hostile due to the disasters, though Aleos felt guilt for having to keep secrets and questioned why they were constantly involved in the situations, even though they and his group granted him purpose and kindness he longed for despite Anamai being a constant source of frustration. A snowstorm caused by the Sphere of Ice happened, with Aleana accompanying Aleos and Anamai this time to fight against a woman named Minako, who could read their thoughts. Though Aleos tried to evacuate them, it was Aleana who stood up to fight against Minako, the Sphere emerging from her as her blonde hair became violet and wings of sachi came from her back, wielding ice easily to drive their opponent away. When asked about what happened by Aleos, Aleana confessed she had always been Auria and the Sphere had appeared when she was younger, vanishing the day Anamai arrived. As she returned to the appearance they knew she asked they not tell anyone, Aleos agreeing for fear of what would happen to Aleana if she was found out. Not long after a flood caused by the Sphere of Water occurred and it went to Anamai, though the apparition of the blue-haired teen that appeared brought her emotional pain and she refused to share details of the exchange she had with him to the others.

Though Aleos had considered what Aleana not being Human could mean for her brother and sister, he wasn't expecting anything to actually happen to them; while walking along the Sapphire River with Anamai and the triplets, Anthony fell over in pain while his blonde hair became a light gray and wings of metal emerged from his back, the Sphere of Metal doing the same. Aleana explained to her brother what happened and taught him to hide his appearance with illusions, while Aleos fearfully began to demand answers out of Anamai, who had been regaining memories with each Sphere obtained. She refused and said she didn't know the purpose of them, only that they had to be collected. At that point Aleos had begun to spend nearly every night at the Mareiyes residence, leading to some interrogation from Ryan about what he was doing that was leaving him so tense and stressed. Despite the rift between the brothers Aleos wanted to protect him, knowing what could happen if it was found out he was acquainted with Auria. He told him hurtful half-truths so he wouldn't press further, his concern growing when he realized Kenji had become more close to Aleana since she received her Sphere. Coupled with the fact both her siblings were Auria, Aleos begged Miaka to not use the Sphere more than she had to, fearing for his friends as he realized the myths behind Auria treatment were true. Just as Anamai was ready to admit she was remembering enough, she, alongside Aleos and Ian, witnessed the Sphere of Sky emerge from Miaka as her hair became blue and eyes became yellow. After she passed out from the pain Aleos again demanded answers of Anamai, and she shared them: she was to collect the twelve Spheres and find the five Heirs who were said to be in Rowaddon. With the Spheres of Sky, Metal and Ice emerging from the triplets she had found three, though she questioned how siblings could each be the Heir of a different clan. The four people opposing them were also seeking out the Spheres but were determined to eliminate the Heirs. Her confidante before then had been their Auria Studies professor, Saeko Sanderson, and she told Ian and Aleos they needn't involve themselves in the situation anymore. Both protested because the triplets were their friends and had protected Humans during disasters. Though they were worried, shaken, and aware of the dangers, they stated they would protect their friends. But things would only become as the group of friends were presented with issues threatening to separate them, Niara disappearing altogether one day. Kenji begged their assistance to find her, revealing that he knew they were collecting Spheres and refusing to answer their questions until Niara was found. As night fell they found her by the Sapphire River enveloped in white light, about to be killed by a black-haired woman named Ruby accompanied by Minako, Shirou and Inaya. Kenji revealed himself to be Kakeru, but though he fought against his seven friends at first he eventually grew white wings just like Aleana's and Anthony's out of his back as his hair reverted to gray and his eyes to violet, revealing himself as the Heir of Light. At that moment the black-haired woman struck at Aleana as a gate to the Sorrows opened beside her, Yuan pushing Niara in and taking the blow in Aleana's stead. Ruby and the others retreated, leaving Yuan to die in Anamai's arms as he entrusted the Sphere of Light to Aleana. That night, Anamai ran away without a word.

History pt. 2

[personal profile] seleniahymn 2013-01-08 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
In the two weeks after the remaining six searched for Anamai, unable to openly mourn the loss of Niara and Yuan as Natalia and Ian reported seeing Anamai attend every class. The natural disasters had stopped, darkness descending upon areas of the city leaving many casualties instead. At the same time Gregory, Mae's older brother who had always had issue with the Sadres brothers, began to harass Ryan due to suspicions he was involved with Auria, leading Aleos to ask Mae for help, though it was to little avail since she would do so only if he accepted betrothal. That same day Anthony finally caught sight of and confronted Anamai, but she attacked him before he could receive answers from her. As the darkness continued, Aleos realized the Sphere of Fire had become rebellious against him and he was forced to use it less, often taking the role of an affected bystander whenever he, Ian and Natalia would find themselves in situations where the Heirs began to combat monsters that accompanied the darkness. It was during one of these fights that they at last encountered Anamai again, fighting against Yuan's replacement among Ruby's fighters Takeyu, who showed special interest in her. The monsters that had accompanied him, however, were successful in leeching sachi from the Heirs and Anamai, leaving only Aleos awake enough to try to get them to safety. He was forced to contact Ms. Mareiyes for help, who was devastated that her children had been involved in the incidents of the last seven months. At the same time she admitted to having found the children separately in Orion fourteen years earlier, using illusions to make them pass off as siblings and Humans while admitting the family were naturally Auria, none of them turned as sometimes occurred. Now that Anamai was back, she admitted to Aleos that Yuan had been a childhood friend of hers before Ruby had taken over his will, and she believed it best to leave everyone and continue collecting the Spheres so they wouldn't be hurt. Though hurt, Aleos vowed he wouldn't let her run away again as the Auria continued to fight against Ruby's fighters, sometimes Ruby herself in order to protect the innocent. A night came when Miaka, Anamai and Aleos were confronted by Ruby directly who claimed the Sphere of Life was nearby, nearly sending them to the brink of death before an apparition of a green-haired woman came, driving off a distressed Ruby. The apparition spoke with Anamai and handed her the Sphere of Life before she and Miaka fell unconscious, leaving Aleos to get them to safety. He spent the night at Anamai's bedside, dreaming of the apparition who asked him if he wanted to help relieve Anamai of some of her pain and vice versa, tying their lives together. Just as he agreed he woke up, Anamai at last admitted she, too, was an Auria.

Weeks afterward Aleos, Miaka and Anamai were confronted by Ruby again, who focused specifically on him to play on his fears and insecurities, musing why 'they thought they could protect him.' As Aleos' confusion became too much the citrine pendant he had been gifted began to glow, becoming the Sphere of Earth as flame-like wings emerged from his back and his appearance changed, the girls realizing he was also a Heir. Satisfied, Ruby departed, leaving the berserk Aleos to strike down the two who trying to calm him. He poisoned Miaka and nearly burned through Anamai's arm using the Sphere of Fire before she struck him and passed out. Regaining his sense of self and horrified by what he had done, he got the two back to Aleana who fought to treat their injuries. Realizing a way to reverse Miaka's poison he went to the Sapphire River and instinctively called upon his Yaneila, Venu, to manifest before him. He begged his awakened power be reversed in order to save Miaka's life. Eventually Venu relented, but warned Aleos he would have to revert back to Human and that, in the event he accepted his duties and power as Heir again he would not return to being full-Auria; instead, he would become a Le'sachi. Aleos agreed, his power sealing even as he was left with his new appearance. Once Venu disappeared Aleana called him to tell him the girls would be all right, and while his appearance led to many questions the next day at school he only cared that his best friend was all right, even as he wallowed in guilt and self-hatred as the witch hunt began. The government had admitted that Auria were real and were responsible for the incidents of the last nine months, and rewards would be granted for every Auria turned in. Accusations happened left and right, especially in Arash-Meir where many of the students were already suspiciously gifted. Disappearances occurred, and the group of friends even witnessed officials chasing and capturing an Auria, an incident which deeply traumatized Anamai. The darkness attacks gave way to the group always looking over their shoulders and fearing they would be taken in, a fear that was realized one night when Aleos and Anamai were out on a date. Two of their classmates who suspected Anamai cornered them, beating Aleos so he was powerless to stop them from taking her away. Refusing to do nothing, he called back upon the power he had sealed away almost two months before, dealing their attackers into unconsciousness as a different set of wings, blue-yellow, emerged from his back. At first Anamai feared him, but realizing Aleos was in control of himself she apologized for forcing him into that choice, though he stated he didn't regret it. It was an answer he echoed later that evening to Ryan when he asked what happened to him, but he omitted no longer being Human.

The next month Arash-Meir held a festival that coincided with Anamai's fourteenth birthday, the friends determined to celebrate. Aleos had been receiving calls from his twin that she would surprise him soon, but didn't expect Aaliya to appear at the festival. Their reunion filled him with conflict, because Lucius stated the day they were allowed to meet again would be the day he had to return to Regar. Aaliya assured him she was there for her and Anna's sake, wanting him to leave Rowaddon because it was dangerous to stay. He gave no answer, and was not aware Aleana and Anamai had been taken by Ruby's fighters until Ian came to him for help. When they found them they were shocked to see them before a portal similar to the one that appeared by Aleana when Yuan died, though while they were distracted Shirou appeared and extracted the Spheres of Wood and Fire from Aleos and Miaka. Proclaiming that the 'Final Heaven' now held nine of the twelve Spheres, Aleos noticed they also had Aaliya captive as Minako, Takeyu and Inaya walked through the gate with her and Anamai. Aleos called out to Aleana, waking her enough that she was able to throw them the Sphere of Light before Shirou closed the gate, leaving the remaining five distraught. Natalia stated the Heirs had the power to follow them and Anthony, realizing she was right, took charge when they met later that evening at the Sapphire River. Using the Spheres available they were able to open a portal similar to the one earlier in the day and asked Ian and Natalia to stay behind for their safety, because someone would have to inform Ryan and Ms. Mareiyes what happened in the event they didn't return. Ian handed Aleos his mobile, telling him he would have to be the one to tell Ryan goodbye. As soon as his brother answered Aleos apologized to him, stepping through the portal before Ryan could ask what was happening. When next he opened his eyes, Aleos found himself surrounded by forest in Orion. They began their search right away, remembering Niara was also in this world as they traveled. They were recognized as Heirs by Auria they encountered, who treated them hospitably despite their war-torn conditions. They asked that they bring the daughter of the 'Goddess Queen' to justice, because she had refused to take the throne eight years before and their current situation was a result of it. The Heirs eventually promised the dying people they would.

Eventually they found the two girls with only the Spheres of Life and Ice on them, and received shelter from a woman named Azera who once worked for Ruby, discovering she was a goddess seeking to kill all Auria. The Final Heaven were trying to circumvent this by working alongside her, and it was the duty of the Heirs to help them even though she wouldn't say how. They traveled to the Vaesthi region, where they were met by priestesses who recognized Aleana as their Heir, guardian of the Sorrows and a being created years before, informing the siblings the woman they called 'mother' was Janethra, the oldest Auria alive as Aleos admitted having known they weren't blood-related. They proclaimed themselves siblings anyway, helping Aleana select Setsuna as her new name. Suddenly hearing Anamai, who stayed outside, screaming for help they saw she had been seized by Takeyu, sending the priestesses into panic and begging for her safety. Surprised at the Heirs' confusion, Takeyu asked Anamai if they were ignorant of the truth, and as she begged he not say anything he told them Anamai was none other than absent queen, Anjyl. The monsters accompanying him went berserk and injured Anjyl, forcing him to leave and order them to treat the queen. But Anjyl refused treatment, becoming cold and almost opposite of the girl they knew as she shifted into her true form, bearing all the marks of a royal as she reminded them of the promise they now had to fulfill. Though Aleos stabbed her in confusion, she passed out and attempted to flee into a blizzard toward her death that night. Aleos went after her and brought her back, telling her he wouldn't allow her to die needlessly and before hearing her side of the story. She fell asleep crying in his arms, and they were entrusted to escort her to Areth'ella and find the other Heirs, leading them to the Saen region. While there they came across a child who saw Aleos and called him his father, catching them all off-guard because there was no way he could be. He noticed, however, that he had the same blue eyes as Ryan, and soon enough his mother appeared holding a baby girl, recognizing Aleos at once. Introducing herself as Natsuka, she led them to Zan'shoren, the stronghold of Saen, where Aleos was unexpectedly greeted by his fiancée. His confusion became anxiety when the Auria around him exclaimed praise and gratitude of having a Heir, shocked the 'Human son' had been it. Aleos was led to the clan's sanctuary by Natsuka, waiting until nighttime for 'Ryouhei.' He was shocked to see Ryan approaching him, accompanied by a woman who strongly resembled Aaliya and an eight-year-old boy who looked like a younger version of himself. Ryan wasted no time in embracing Aleos in relief, telling him everything he knew wasn't what it was.

Together with Natsuka, his wife, he explained that this was where he disappeared to sometimes, his real identity being Ryouhei Zan'oe Neruyl and the official leader of the Saen after the Heir, having inherited the position from their father who passed two weeks before. He told Aleos why he was sent to Riosna, and the reason he wasn't allowed to contact his siblings because they were all Auria, introducing him to Masaji, who asked if Aleos would be his full brother anyway as the woman beside him admitted to being everyone's mother but Ryouhei's, conceiving in hopes of securing the Neruyl with a suitable successor. She apologized for his poor health and the life he'd had to endure as Ryouhei informed Aleos that as the Heir, his engagement had to be annulled. Aleos then ran away in confusion, eventually intercepted by his now ex-fiancée. He apologized to her, and she helped him to sort through his emotions. Knowing she was a Le'sachi like he, they spoke of their circumstances until Aleos was ready to return and speak with Ryouhei again. His brother told him more of their family and history, apologizing profusely for having to hide so many things from him and admitting to having worried himself sick since he had disappeared from Riosna. It took some time, but they eventually came to an understanding as Ryouhei handed him three letters, one from their deceased grandfather Hayasu and two from their father, which he wrote after he was taken at birth and when they realized he had rejected his duties as a Heir. In those words Aleos realized the love his father and grandfather had for him that he once sought from Lucius, the origin of his birth name and understood how much his biological mother had suffered for the clan. They spoke more, and that night Aleos slept in the company of his brothers and baby sister for the first time in his life. The peace it brought was short-lived when the next day Zan'shoren was attacked by someone working for Ruby, wielding lightning with ease. Aleos fought against her, attempting to fulfill his duties as the Heir before the young woman unmasked herself, besting him in battle and revealing herself to be none other than Aaliya. Realizing his sister was his enemy, Aleos demanded to know her reasons for attacking their family, to which she answered that she wanted to end their suffering before they had to endure more pain and departed, leaving Aleos struggling to accept he may have to eliminate his sister and fellow Heir.

Personality: Depending on the circumstances you met him in, the first impression Aleos gives is either a perfect gentleman or a brat; in a sense both are true. Being raised in nobility ranks Aleos knows how to be polite on a surface level, but whether the politeness continues is determined by his judgment of the person after he learns more of them and begins to push the boundaries of what is polite. Regardless, he can be a gentleman when the situation calls for it and when he genuinely wants to be. Aleos has also been taught by Janice and Anna to be honest whenever possible, including trying to avoid lying by omission when it was applicable. Though the incidents of the last eleven months have forced him to keep many secrets, when he was able to he gave as much of the truth as he could. The downside is he can be brutally or even insultingly honest; when asked his opinion he tends to hold nothing back and speaks exactly what is on his mind, calling things out as he sees them, though one of the few areas he does not do this is when it concerns his mental well-being. Even then he is willing to open up if he knows he can trust the person, though it doesn't happen often because he doesn't want people to know how battered his sense of self-image truly is. The treatment he has received for being openly soft-hearted has left scarred him, as has his guilt whenever he was unable to do something to protect someone and his tendency to sometimes fall ill frequently. Try as he might, Aleos sometimes dwells on 'what-ifs' that cement his self-image of being useless and weak. Because he has been hurt he attempts to seem distant, sometimes extending to being deliberately cold even though he regrets doing so. Being naturally shy beneath the protective cover he created for himself Aleos can be rather quiet, and it is all too easy to keep to himself despite popularity gained from his status and looks. Knowing some people are interested in him because of those two things he is cautious of anyone who approaches him first, even if he acts politely and amiably. These instances of self-hatred occur most often when his friends are not with him.

But for all his harsh remarks, teasing and sometimes cold demeanor, Aleos is still capable of the kindness Janice had claimed he was gifted with, even toward strangers and his enemies. He develops feelings for people quickly and cares for them as a whole, hating to see unnecessary suffering or lack of compassion and sometimes doing things as seemingly small as helping a homeless man earn a meal, taking a friend out with the intent of cheering them up or simply listening to someone's troubles as a silent support. He is vehemently against bullying and pushing people down, knowing all too well the feelings of being on the receiving end of it thanks to his experience with Lucius and the Hendersons; the degree to which he stands up for victims can almost be irrational, as he feels that strongly about it. He also sympathizes well with those who have been classified as outcasts or "different," having received such treatments in both Rowaddon and Regar. It was this kindness that allowed him to stay by his friends as they were revealed to be Auria, in fact giving him more reason to remain faithful to them. The downside is he tries to keep these instances discreet, preferring to downplay the difference he made and overall being modest. When asked why he acts so kindly he echoes his grandmother in saying someone should because kindness could only survive if it was fueled, occasionally adding on the importance of genuine kindness in saving someone's life as a means of indirectly referring to his experience with the people he holds dear. He never holds regrets for helping out someone when they needed it, and his kindness was part of the reason why he had wanted to learn alternate medicine, the other being that he developed a fear of sharp objects touching his body and sometimes taking medicine after the incident when he was younger.

His sense of dedication is the reason why Aleos is one of the best students in Arash-Meir, and why he has deep connections with his loved ones. Even before leaving Regar Aleos gave his all in everything he did; after all, giving everything he had brought about not only personal satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment, but often it meant his loved ones' happiness. This applies to everything he does be it his studies, cooking, music, or his friendships. Even with his rough relationship with his brother Aleos would do everything he could for him in secret, always making sure that he did as much as he could for those who had shown him genuine kindness in the past regardless of where their relationship currently stands. For this reason he refuses to give up on a person, and leads us to one of his greatest strengths and weaknesses at the same time: how emotional he is. Even before he became a Le'sachi Aleos would get very worked up or easily emotion, even if he succeeded in hiding it from most people a majority of the time; the only people he never fooled were those who were very close to him. He is easily prone to responding with anger, frustration and sometimes even panic during moments of stress. 'Collected' is not a way he would be described by anyone who saw him on a day-to-day basis outside of class, even if he managed to keep a calm face. Because he is so honest his emotions, especially the more negative ones, leak into his overall demeanor very easily, to the point that if wouldn't be untrue to say he can be passive-aggressive, and as a matter of fact that is how he handles his anger and stronger jealousy. It often leads to shifting through various topics in a conversation, mood whiplash being something that can almost be expected. In dealing with sadness he tends to become quiet and because happiness was never abundant in his life, he will most often express it with just a small smile. He feels strongly, and all too often is overwhelmed and unable to handle it on his own, thus when he tries during a bout of insecurity he often lashes out unknowingly by twisting words into hurtful remarks, coming to regret what he said quickly even if his inner turmoil made it difficult to stop. He recognizes full well when he crosses the line, but is rarely able to stop himself in the moment.

If you ask his friends and those who know him, they will say that Aleos' best trait is his sense of judgment and ability to recognize when people are hurting, seeing in them the hurt he has experienced and generally being empathetic about it. While he has views of what is right and wrong, he does his best to remain open-minded and tends to judge a person not on their past or what they have done, but what on what he has seen for himself and the actions they are carrying out in the present. Though he is capable of holding grudges and does, he still tries to find the best in people, making him closer to being idealistic than being pragmatic. It was what his grandmother taught him, and the way he wishes he could be seen by others would judge even more so now that he has witnessed what he has.

Strengths/Weakness & Samples.

[personal profile] seleniahymn 2013-01-08 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Strengths:

Physical: As the Heir of Earth, Aleos is physically stronger than the average Human almost to the point of supernatural, and in addition he has the ability to command earth at will, sometimes even able to create it if circumstances are right. He is skilled at using firearms due to Regar's belief of training its citizens from a young age to defend and fight for the country and its military, which also led to teaching him self defense and combat with emphasis on legwork because of the injury sustained by his arm when he was younger. Even though he was never supposed to know of his Auria heritage, he was still taught to wield a sword well enough for being a son of the Neruyl family. He has exceptional hearing and sight, and decent flight capability when his wings are willing to work, while he can push himself long enough for help to arrive if it means protecting someone dear to him. He can also play the violin and cook rather well, since they are experiences he shared with his grandmother. He can also sing rather well, even if it doesn't do much for controlling his earth abilities at this time.

Mental & Emotional: Aleos is very dedicated and loyal as explained before, and due to his upbringing has the inherent ability to see what others are capable of even when they can't see it. He relates and recognizes when others are hurting, even if he doesn't always know how to go about dealing with it. He tends to gravitate toward others who may be hurting emotionally as a result. He can also be rather observant, and doesn't hesitate to call out anything he perceives as too unusual. When he feels he needs help he asks for it, and he strives to be as honest as possible while stating things as he sees it as mentioned before. He also happens to be a quick learner, though this is not always put into practice.

Weaknesses:

Physical: Most of his childhood Aleos was sickly, and this has shown again now that he has become a Le'sachi which are sickly by default because his Human and Auria blood are constantly trying to destroy the other. His stamina is rather poor despite his strength, and long-term exposure to water makes him weak and lethargic, sometimes to the point of passing out while his earth abilities cannot apply to plant life. Because of the injuries he sustained when he was younger he refrains from using his arms whenever possible, which means he doesn't have the best upper body strength and can be called a twig otherwise in appearance. His capability for flight is rather weak, and his wings aren't always able to function properly which would likely mean it would work next to never in the enclosure. Trying to force him to take medicine can also be a chore due in part to the bad memories he has associated with hospital stays, and when he bleeds he does so rather quickly and it takes wounds a longer time to heal for him than it would even the average human.

Mental & Emotional: Aleos has been known to fly off the handle and take things too personally often, having quite a bit of a temper sometimes. As mentioned his brutal honesty is a double-edged sword, and he has difficulty stopping himself even when he recognizes he should. While he likes people easily and is kind to them, it is rather easy to hurt him emotionally because he can be sensitive. In situations of intense stress he is far from your typical leader, prone to acting on the fly and not thinking clearly, and that's before factoring in his Le'sachi status which makes him for a ticking time bomb emotionally. He can be easily guilted and sometimes rendered into compliancy, though the latter is far more difficult to achieve depending on the circumstances.

Samples

First Person: Q&A please!

Third Person: It had only been a few days, but Aleos was still trying to figure out how to go about the whole 'wing' situation as he threw down another botched shirt, holding a hand to his head in frustration. This wasn't his area of expertise, and he could practically hear Miaka laughing at him over the pitiful holes meant to be an exit for this new set of wings. A part of him can't help feeling the irony that here it didn't matter if you had wings or not when back home to have them out was a shining beacon begging to be targeted to turned in when compared to the leaves at his wrists that could be hidden so much more easily. Yet he could only sit here and wonder of how annoying it was that they couldn't be pulled in.

The things one takes for granted were always strange, he could recall the faint envy he felt when he first saw the wings from his friends. Now he had two sets that happened to be the same color scheme, even if only one was out in the open and blatantly 'fluffy' at a glance. And how very cumbersome they were proving to be, because it wasn't as if he wanted to have them crumpled against his back and under a shirt all the time. They tickled for crying out loud! He didn't like drawing attention to himself in the first place, writhing in the middle of a public area seemed like a damn easy way to go about doing that.

Pulling away his hand from his face, he returned his gaze to the pile of shirts of varying colors with an uneasy look on himself. Here he was trying to adjust some shirts when he should really just deal with the wings as they are, when he should be more worried about what was happening back in Orion and Riosna. Then again, he wasn't overly fond of huddling with the upset stomach he would eventually give himself thinking about it. He didn't like this, he wanted to return and receive answers there and not here, answers that mattered more to him in the present. But that was asking for too much at this time, judging on how everyone spoke of the place.

At least he didn't have to continue looking and wiping at his blood and that of his sister's off himself any more, he truly was fortunate that it was practically gone when he arrived... Not that he didn't dwell on the meaning behind it any less.

Character

Name: Hibiki (Ethan)
Fandom: Pokemon [HeartGold/SoulSilver] Gameverse
Gender: male
Age: 13
Time Period: Pre-Kanto League
Wing Color: goldenrod
History: HGSS
Personality:
His only family is his mother--his father is long gone--but he was raised with a lot of love and affection, from people and pokemon. Because of that, Hibiki grew up into a kind, caring boy who enjoys physical contact; be it a pat on the back, a hug, or a kiss, it makes him happy. He has no problem going up to a person, talking to them, helping them, befriending them. He makes friends easily, even with trainers he's defeated, exchanging phone numbers with them and keeping in contact. And tolerating little bastards like Youngster Joey. It is the same with pokemon; he bonded with his Cyndaquil in a very short amount of time (which also allowed him to keep it as his starter). Every so often he challenges the same trainers again to see how much they've improved and just to see them again. He does the same thing with gym leaders and the elite four; he has their numbers and they talk every once in a while. Hibiki believes he still has a lot to learn and who's better to learn from than those people that went on to become gym leaders and part of the elite four? That and they give really good advice on how to train, where to go, shortcuts; recommend some good places in town, etc. (They kinda look out for him and Hibiki looks up to all of them.) Plus who else can say they have gym leaders' numbers? Hibiki, that's who.

Hibiki enjoys meeting new people, especially kids his age. He doesn't have any siblings or anyone he's particularly close to which makes him want to form close bonds with people. Aware of his goal, he doesn't have a lot of time to get close to anyone, but it doesn't bother him too much because he has his pokemon--they're his second family, really. He doesn't get lonely very often, but there are moments he feels like he made the wrong choice in starting a pokemon journey--there are a lot of families in the small towns his visits and it makes him wonder if that would've been him laughing and playing with other kids if he stayed. He travels alone, with the exception of his pokemon companion (usually Typlosion), so he gets very excited when he finds trainers or people on the road; he talks to everybody about anything and everything. Hibiki doesn't dwell on things, though, he accepts his situation for what is its. He's a momma's boy at heart, not getting irritated with the phone calls (and her spending all his money on berries), he loves his mom.

Hibiki takes his time going from town to town, meeting new people and pokemon, being friendly in general. He helps anyone that he comes across--an example being his time in Azalea Town, also his first encounter with Team Rocket. He hears the townspeople have been having problems with Team Rocket and confronts them, battling grunt after grunt to save the slowpoke in the well and driving them out of the town. He encounters them multiple times (lake of rage, goldenrod, cerulean) and goes out of his way to stop them. Hibiki goes even as far as infiltrating the dangerous organization--alone--in hopes of ending their operations. He seeks them out and sends them away before they create chaos. Hibiki doesn't see them as a distraction nor as an obstruction to his goal, but as an organization he needs to stop. He was taught to do what was right and to help others, he wants to do what's right and help others. He grew up helping Professor Elm around his lab--running errands and destroying evil organizations are pretty much the same in his book. Aside from helping people from Team Rocket, he helped Jasmine of Olivine City nurse her ill Ampharos back to health. Hibiki did not know who she was until after he finds the medicine to help her, showing how quick he is on deciding who to help. The feeling he gets after helping someone is priceless, and he's happy to do anything he can on his journey. And it doesn't even matter if it's a person, [wild] pokemon, even berry plants that need watering, Hibiki would find a way to do something for each of them.

Despite taking his time getting from place to place, Hibiki is full of energy. He loves running--to feel the wind against his face and all the built up adrenaline. Depending on whichever pokemon he has out with him, Hibiki races them and just plays around with them in between gyms. Aside from running, Hibiki loves riding his bike. It gives him the same feeling as running, only biking is much faster. (And sometimes he hears a voice in his head telling him not to ride it [especially in pokemon centers]--it freaks him out.) He's very energetic and very very active, bringing excitement everywhere he goes. Hibiki's also brave--what preteen wanders around dark caves, and woods at night? He acts mostly on instinct and that's how he survives in the wilderness. If things get out of hand, he knows to use his pokemon to help him get out of the situation, but most of the time he can befriend the wild pokemon or whatever he encounters out there.

His rival is a boy named Silver, whom he first encountered when he received his starter pokemon. Every time Silver challenges Hibiki, it's obvious what Silver is driven by (strength, being the strongest, pushing his pokemon, etc.), but Hibiki doesn't get angry at him for treating his pokemon like that, nor does he look down upon the other. Instead, each time they meet, he tries to help Silver. Help him see that not everybody is weak, that his pokemon aren't just tools, that strength isn't the only thing that matters. Silver berates him every battle, believing he's weak--You stay out of my way. A weakling like you is only a distraction--but it doesn't faze Hibiki. He's not the type to give up when things don't look good, and he never gave up on trying to help Silver see pokemon in a different light. Eventually Silver changes for the better and when they battle in Victory Road, he acknowledges Hibiki's strength and vows to battle him again.

He's seldom anything but happy because he just doesn't have a reason to be anything else. He's on an adventure; his first, now technically second in Kanto, and it's the most amazing thing in the world. There are things that bring his mood down (like when it rains and he can't go out, boo) and things that make him mad (cough team rocket), but he doesn't let it bother him. He's happy when other people are happy, when his pokemon are happy, when the weather is nice, when he wins..etc. If no one's happy, he'd be happy for them, after all, he doesn't think anyone should feel sad if they don't have to.

His will is strong, and reflects in his battles. Along with dealing with Team Rocket, he encounters a fair share of wild pokemon and challengers along the way to each city. Hibiki doesn't step into a battle knowing he's going to win, he trusts his pokemon and believes their strength (as well as his determination) can snag victory. His bond with his pokemon is what helps him win; said bond is acknowledged early on in the game when Professor Elm deems him fit to have a pokemon of his own and to start his pokemon adventure and later when Professor Oak gives him a pokedex. All ups have downs, however, and Hibiki doesn't win all the time. He accepts defeat with grace and trains harder to become stronger. It isn't in him to feel bitter about a loss or give up when it's a particularly bad defeat. Although in some cases, he will become distressed over defeat (and pretty much wallow in self-pity). He cares for each and every one of his pokemon, them being his closest friends (and family), so he treats them as best he could. He nurses them back to health or rushes to the nearest Pokemon Center when they're hurt/poisoned/struck with a status ailment/etc--because they are his strength. It works the same way with his friends (wow typical shounen thing!!), he relies on them as much as they do him and would do anything for them. Not to mention fiercely loyal.

His dream is to become the pokemon champion, much like the mysterious Trainer Red (also a figure he looks up to--he is the current champion, after all). Hibiki used to watch pokemon battles on tv and that was when he knew what he wanted to do when he "grew up." Little kids often have strong figures they dub as their heroes, and it was the same for Hibiki. He was inspired by all the trainers he saw on tv, by how well trainer and pokemon worked and just fascinated by the pokemon in general. So he decided to go down the road of a trainer, to be just like the big kids on tv. And now he himself is on tv, courtesy of the traveling reporter he encounters in every other town. He's often praised for his skill and power, but it never gets to his head. Hibiki always responds with something positive when asked about his battles--they're thrilling and exciting, just what he wants from them. Training pokemon and battling is admittedly hard work (and sometimes frustrating if they're stuck in a rut), but he makes sure he, his pokemon and even his opponent can have fun. That's just how he is, he wants to be able to enjoy battles as much as he could and to share that joy with others as well.

Strengths::
  • He's pretty strong willed+determined which results in him achieving his goals/what he sets out to do
  • His ability to make friends! What's more dangerous than having loads of connections? He's really friendly which makes Hibiki likeable and he's less likely to make enemies for himself
  • In addition to that, he's fiercely loyal to his friends and pokemon
  • Hibiki can adapt easily, what with being outside all the time in all sorts of weather with nothing but himself, his bag, and his pokemon
  • His pokemon companions are his strength!!
Weaknesses:
  • Hibiki can be a little too headstrong and does things impulsively; jumping right into a team rocket hideout and getting all the grunts' attentions probably isn't a little too bright
  • He's naive....
  • Despite being happy all the time, Hibiki does possess other emotions and they do affect the decisions he makes (ex. working his pokemon too hard out of anger/desperation)
  • Hibiki hates being alone (and/or in the dark)--if he's alone for a long period of time, he becomes extremely scared, almost hysterical

Re: Himura Kenshin | Rurouni Kenshin | Reserved 2/?

[personal profile] degozaruyo 2013-01-08 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: The Hitokiri Battousai was the most famous and feared swordsman of the Bakumatsu. He was cold and calculating and delivered “heaven’s judgment” without any hint of emotion or remorse. But love and a traumatic loss changed that. The cross-shaped scar he received at the hands of a desperate young samurai and his bride marked a turning point in the hitokiri’s life. From then on, he stepped out of the shadows and became a “freewheeling” swordsman who defended his comrades. He also made a vow: at the dawn of the new era he and his fellow revolutionaries were fighting to create, he would abandon his sword and find a way to protect people without killing. By protecting life and helping people, the former Hitokiri Battousai could atone for the deaths he caused. Kenshin left the Choushuu Ishin-shishi rebel faction after the decisive battle of Toba Fushimi and was given a reversed blade sword in parting. That sword became the symbol of his vow never to kill again. He could—and does—wield it in the defense of others, but it is a blade that cannot cut. The sakabatou has become so important to his life and his psyche that the mere act of picking up another sword, one without the blade reversed, would be a direct violation of his vow and send him back ten years to the Hitokiri part of himself he had left behind.

The prospect of returning to the Battousai part of himself is something that Kenshin fears. He does so several times during the first half of the series during times of anger and stress (i.e. fighting Udou Jin-e for Kaoru’s life, trying to rescue the child Iori during the Kyoto arc) or battles that remind him of his past (his duel with Saitou Hajime), and each time he feels that he is closer to losing himself. As Battousai, he is colder, plainspoken, and more violent. His vows matter a great deal less than they did before. It is a serious enough problem that he returns to his former teacher to gain full mastery of the Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryuu style, lest he return to his old ways once and for all. Only by mastering the final two forms of the style does he seal that part of himself away and learn to fully rely on his strength of heart.

The rurouni, Kenshin, is the product of his ten years of wandering. It is his true self, even if his enemies want him to believe otherwise. He is a kind, gentle young man who enjoys quiet moments and the friendship of others. He is unfailingly polite and can be slightly goofy at times (the whole “oro” thing), but that only adds to his charm. It is his genuine goodness that attracts people to him. He is a natural leader who can see strength in others, even if they cannot see it themselves. In doing so, he inspires them to want to be better people. He dislikes violence and only employs it when he sees no other alternative, always mindful of his vow and his need to protect others.

Of course, guilt plays a significant role in his personality as well: guilt for the assassinations he committed as Battousai, guilt for those he couldn’t save, and most importantly, his guilt over Tomoe's death. Yukishiro Enishi exploited this with great success in his Jinchuu during the series’ third arc, systematically punishing him for his sister’s “murder” by hurting those closest to him. This, of course, culminates in Kaoru’s “death,” which sends Kenshin spiraling into a catatonic state of grief and depression and will be discussed in more detail in the “Strengths and Weaknesses” section.
And yet, he is always striving to move forward. Though he can’t shed his past, he prefers quieter, more domestic moments. He enjoys doing chores, drinking tea, and mediating arguments between Kaoru and Yahiko. Despite what he did as the Hitokiri Battousai, he doesn’t want to dwell on it. He’s the rurouni, Kenshin, now. With Enishi defeated and his future with Kaoru secure, he can finally focus on that. The Jinchuu arc is as much about letting go and moving forward as it is about remembrance of what’s past.
