Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Personality: Crystal is that cheerful, fun person to be around until she gets started on her work. When she first met the Professor, she showed him her skill in Pokémon battles, and how she could handle a stressful situation like wild Slugma attacking the daycare she worked at. After reassuring him, he decided to let her go on and catch all the Pokémon in the Johto region. Crystal is very good with teamwork, and not just with her own Pokémon, but the other other Pokédex holders, as well. Granted, she is much more composed and mature when compared to them, and doesn't nearly fight as often as they do. In fact, she usually tries to break up their fights. Sadly, it doesn't usually work, but those two always work it out. But unlike them, she knows her responsibilities, and always holds true to them. She never gives up halfway, Crys always gets the job done, and gets it done WELL. She's the most reliable out of the Johto trio, and possibly all of the Pokédex holders. When just looking at her this way, it appears that she's a perfectly polite and responsible girl. But everyone has their faults.

Hers being that she can get a little cocky at times, especially around Gold and Silver. They do have a nice rivalry/friendship kinda thing going on, and the need for her to seem like the more mature and composed one, compared to the two idiots who are always fighting. Even she jumps in on the banter at times, usually in an attempt gone wrong to get them to stop fighting. And because of this, she can probably seem a bit too bossy and maybe even arrogant. She kinda acts older than she is sometimes. Until she loses her confidence, then she just has no hope. Crys got really down when she couldn't capture Suicune, and lost her ability to catch any Pokémon. She cried, feared she would let the Professor down after she took such an important task. It took her a long time to finally get her determination and ability to catch Pokémon back, but she became more sure of herself that she would get the job done. This way, she could become even more of a workaholic, focused primarily on catching all the Pokémon for the Professor that she possibly good. Determination is one thing, but sending Pokémon nonstop to him is going just a bit overboard. And, it was at night.

Regarding relatonships, she gets along pretty well with the other dex holders. Gold, Silver, and Crystal are all pretty close, despite the fights. Sure, they had a rocky relationship at first, but eventually all warmed up and became fast friends. Her rivalry with Eusine is... pretty unique. She does admire him for chasing Suicune for so long, but also sees him as a dear, yet very odd, friend. She's grateful to him for letting her try to catch Suicune while he fought Rocket grunts, and never forgets his kindness. She shares a certain kinship with him for both admiring Suicune. He still thinks Suicune will choose him. And et, Suicune saw Crystal the trainer worthy to fight with him against the Masked Man, and to help save Ho-oh and Lugia. Naturally, she was extremely happy with this since Suicune was the one she admired the most, and always hoped to capture. She was upset at first not understanding Suicune's feelings for returning to the Tin Tower, and felt honored to help him fight whe nhe came to her. As for Yellow, she was first suspicious of her, but soon learned she was a nice and caring person for Pokémon, just as she was. This caused them to get a certain bond together, and they also became good friends. For Emerald, she was the one who sent him on the journey to find Jirachi. She was a big help to him by lending out her Pokémon to him, showing just how much she trusted him, but also how much she wanted to save the other frozen dex holders. She helped in the final battle, knowing they all had to come together to beat Archie and his monster. Naturally, after the victory, she was overjoyed to have all of her friends back to normal.

Strengths:

-She is the best Pokémon capturer in Johto, if not the world. Professor Oak even said she was the expert on capturing any and all Pokémon.
-Crys is a very determined person, as when she couldn't capture any Pokémon, she decided she would tie her arms behind her back, and work with her legs until she could properly kick Pokéballs to catch again.
-She's an extremely kindhearted girl who really cares about her Pokémon and friends. She took on the quest to fill the Pokédex, and the Professor in turn fixed up the orphanage she worked at. She looked after the kids there like a big sister to make sure they were taken care of well.
-Try that she's one of the most, if not THE most reliable dex holder among them. She always gets the job done and refuses to give up. As when she completed the Johto dex for Professor Oak, which, mind you, is no small task. YOU TRY CATCHING 100+ POKEMON.
-She works extremely well with her Pokémon or other trainers. Teamwork is a big thing for her and is great at coming up for strategies involving it. When fighting against Pryce in the Ilex Forest, they all came together to beat him since they knew they would need to.

Weaknesses
:
-She's a bloody workaholic. No, seriously, Bill said she could take a break after a hard capture, but the second she saw a Pokémon she hadn't caught for the Professor, Crys immediately when to go catch it.
-When she's sad, she gets SAD. When she failed one capture against Suicune, it was impossible for her to catch even the simplest of Pokémon, and she became incredibly lost after this.
-Crys can often come off as too serious, like when Gold and Silver were fighting, she asked if they knew they were the people Professor Oak trusted with the task of filling up the Pokédex. Gold totally called her out on being too serious.
-Another thing is Crys can sometimes seem a bit too bossy. When Gold was making a big scene at the Indigo Plateau, Crys had to tell him repeatedly to watch what he was doing, and eventually got pretty annoying.
-There are times when even she can be immature, as in her many instances where she fights with Gold, usually about how she isn't bossy or serious or uptight. And she may even come across as a know-it-all, since she knows so much about Pokémon, capturing them, their abilities, and even how to work the Pokégear well.

Samples

First Person: O-Oh wow, it's freezing out here. Geez, I've been walking around here for the longest time. U-um, could someone tell me where am I? I-I have no idea if this is Johto or not. It really doesn't look familiar to me at all. And if someone could, I'd like to know if they see my Pokemon somewhere. I'm looking for a Meganium, Cubone, Xatu, Hitmonlee, Parasect, and Arcanine. Th-they're friendly and kind, so they won't hurt you, I promise! It's just I've been walking around for a while, and some of them aren't very good with the cold, so I'd like to see them and make sure they can get warmed up. I'd like that for myself, too, actually, since it's winter here, and this snow is REALLY cold. And if anyone needs to get in contact with me about my Pokémon, my name is Crystal!

Third Person: Crys usually didn't mind the snow. In fact, it was often really fun to play in with her Pokémon, too. But she did NOT like the snow when all she was wearing was a very thin dress (why is she in a stinking dress!?!) and without her beloved Pokémon. It was cold, she was cold, and frankly getting very annoyed with this place. She hugged herself to try and warm up a little, wandering around the strange town. She breathed into her hands, trying to warm them up, looking around for any place that sold clothes. She really, really needed something warm right now! Food, clothes, her Pokémon, too. She wondered if they were doing okay, wherever they were. Which she really hoped was here. Unable to take the cold, she finally sneezed.

"Ugh. It's so cold. Isn't there anywhere I can get a coat or some warmer clothes? Geez." Crys walked around a bit more, before finally finding a the clothing store. A smile on her face, she immediately ran inside. Ooooooh, it was so much warmer in there. And there were a lot of clothes to choose from, too! But she didn't need much, she wasn't really one for fashion and the like. Equipping herself with pants and a coat, she felt much better inside. Mmm, the clothes were so warm, she couldn't help but giggle a little. But what about her Pokémon? Were they warm and safe, too? She hadn't even seen them around, and she knew they weren't easy to miss at all, they were all fairly well sized. A worried look came over her face, but she soon gently slapped her hands over it.

"I can't get down like this! They're strong, I'm sure they're fine. But I should still go look around for them." Even if they were strong, they were her precious companions, she didn't want to risk anything happening to them. And she didn't know what this place could have in store, after all. Some really strong Pokémon could be here, and though she didn't like to admit it, they may not be able to handle this place. It was unpredictable enough to drag her here, after all. Well, either way this place was weird, and she didn't want to leave her Pokémon alone in it too long.

Kaname Tanuma | Natsume Yuujinchou (2/3)

[personal profile] kindaqueer 2012-03-03 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Kaname isn't very good at dealing with people. Due to the things he grew up hearing and seeing because of the youkai (essentially, Japanese spirits and monsters), he had a hard time connecting with other children his age. In the first season, Kitamoto compares him to Natsume, saying how they both like being alone and have a tendency to "suddenly become uneasy as if seeing something scary." This has led to Kaname becoming very independent, having spent most of his free-time by himself. Much of this also stems from his home life, where he lives alone with his father, a Buddhist priest. He doesn't want his father to worry about him, and as a result, he doesn't tell his father about everything he can see and hear. Kaname is also careful not to do things that are rash or dangerous, because he knows putting himself at risk would bring trouble to his father and their home.

However, there are times when Kaname will do something dangerous without thinking. In episode 11 of the third season, Kaname jumps in front of Natsume to protect him from something that had been rustling in the bushes and heading towards them. Although initially believing it to have been a strange gust of wind, it later turns out to have been a youkai that was trying to possess Natsume. When the youkai possesses Kaname instead, he chooses not to tell Natsume about it and instead makes a point to avoid him during school in the hopes of not getting him involved. This is because Kaname doesn't want to do anything that might cause his friends unnecessary grief, even knowing that withholding information may only make things worse in the end.

Overall, Natsume has served as a major catalyst of change in Kaname throughout the series. No longer does he spend all his time alone, instead often hanging around Natsume and Taki, the only two other people in their school who know about the world of youkai. He's also seen becoming more included in school gathers along with Kitamoto and Nishimura as the series progresses, mostly due to Natsume's influence. Despite these changes, Kaname still isn't very good at being social and has a tendency to keep quiet and go with the flow of things. Prior to speaking with Natsume for the first time, Kaname had asked a few of his friends about him, but never set out to try and speak with him himself. In the end, it was Natsume who eventually approached Kaname first.

Although Kaname and Natsume are friends, he worries that his weak ability will only be a burden to him. Earlier, in episode 13 of the second season, Kaname helps Natsume by finding the location of an old well where a powerful and evil youkai is sealed. Though initially Natsume had only asked Taki for help, she runs into Kaname and he lends a hand, but only after asking her not to tell Natsume that he was the one to find the well. He is all too aware of the fact that he and Natsume are a lot alike, and knows that Natsume is hesitant to ask for help even when he really needs it.

Strengths:
1. As stated previously, Kaname is very sensitive to supernatural beings such as youkai or spirits. He's able to see shadows and reflections, and sometimes even hear their voices. He's also able to sense when something strong is nearby, and can pinpoint which direction it is coming from (as seen in the fourth season when he is following the trail of a youkai that kidnapped Natsume).
2. Kaname is very intelligent. He's a fairly skilled Shogi player and gets good grades in school, despite being absent so often while growing up.
3. Kaname has an athletic build and is very fit, despite his tendency for falling ill due to how sensitive he is to the youkai and spirits around him.
4. Though never stated as fact, it's likely he underwent some kind of martial arts training as a boy to occupy his time and keep fit. This is supported both by multiple drawings by the author of a young Kaname wearing a training uniform, and by the fact that he doesn't hesitate to jump in the line of fire when someone is in danger (such as in episode 10 of season 3 when he is possessed by a youkai that had been targeting Natsume).

Weaknesses:
1. Due to the nature of his ability, he's prone to getting headaches and falling ill if exposed to evil or vengeful spirits. Despite this sensitivity, he's still unable to see them clearly beyond shadows or reflections.
2. He has problems connecting with people due to his independent nature, and he doesn't always know how to act in social situations. At one point in the series, he even tells Natsume that there was something he had wanted to talk to him about, but because he didn't know how to say it, he didn't say anything.
3. Outside of his ability, Kaname is very much just a normal Japanese high school student.

Campanella | Trails in the Sky 2/?

[personal profile] campanella 2012-03-03 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

This is the sort of character you do not want to cross in a dark alley...or a bright one for that matter. The very existence of this 'kid' exudes a cockiness that one can only dream of being able to pollute the air with. Every movement is calculated and every word he says holds a malice and the intent to do harm both emotionally and possibly physically though it is often punctuated with a gratingly amused, child-like tone. There is not a person he stands in front of that he is openly afraid of. If he is then there is no way of telling what is on his mind. If one would venture a guess, it would be that he is up to no good and intends whoever it is real harm. He carries himself as if he does not have a care in the world and that everything is just a game to him. He has a goal and somebody he generally does serve but the potential non-existence of one he devotes himself to would mean that he is free to serve anything in a manner of his choosing or not at all.

He is a bit of a deceiver...or rather a massive one. He spent the majority of Trails in the Sky seemingly devoting himself to Weissmann as his right hand so to speak. It was not until the moment before he appears in Luceti that he revealed himself for working with another mysterious source. He ended up having a hand in the destruction of Weissmann as he shattered the man to dust when he was transformed into a pillar of salt. He retrieved the staff that Weissmann kept with him and teleported away, not to be seen again for quite some time. Where he was and what he was doing was never touched upon. It can be assumed that he was working under nefarious purposes.

Being a trickster and an all around troll is part of his gimmick. The first instance of this was at a camp where an encounter with a set of heroes spoke with him. He was as cryptic as ever but was also quite polite. The soldiers that Campanella had with him were real enough until they approached and the soldiers suddenly exploded into dust and a pile of armor. It was enough to traumatize the heroes. This does not bother the 'boy'. Some of his spells convey his desire to amuse himself as he has the power to turn another into salt and, as mentioned below in the strengths section, turn those he encounters into green peppers. No matter if the battle is serious or not, he has a tendency of using these food spells as well as floating a few inches or so above the ground, maybe more, and teleports whether it is necessary or not.

He enjoys taunting those he runs into about what they are doing or their relationships with other people in order to set them on-guard for what is likely just a tease. He has no intention of going up against others to the extent they might want to do battle with him. This is due in part to his manipulative nature. If others in Ouroboros did not know who he was really serving and ended up in the right place at the right time then he did his job for this secret enemy quite well. It can be inferred that he will manipulate those around him in order to further a goal he might have in mind if he is without those he originally served. With his trickster nature and his naturally cryptic way of speaking, he is likely toying with the person he is speaking with in one way or another. The levels to which he accomplishes this are quite deep but simple: In the end, the world if here for his entertainment. With no leader to tell him otherwise, he is a loose cannon.

He is not afraid of losing though he will comment about how somebody was indeed stronger than he thought them to be as evidenced in the later installment where he actually fought the heroes. If anything, he would be more disappointed in himself for not being able to predict the other person's movements then coming back later on with something he has figured out to use against said person. To put it simply, he is quite calm in the face of a crisis and will not allow the possibility of failure to enter his mind. He believes he is incapable of it as evidenced to his reactions of surprise when damage is inflicted on him in battle and surprise as if he really was not expecting what was thrown his way. The tone of his speech reflects this. It is always confident and self-assured and even malicious.

There is a certain malice to things that he does. The quiz shows in the game have him as a host and there is a mini-game separate from the original game depicting him placing the person in a death trap, such as being surrounded by fire on all sides that close in around the person. If they fail then they die and he moves on. He is mostly silent for the majority of these games and becomes more prominent when viewed through the mini-games. Whenever he speaks with a member of the main party, it is always in the same amused tone. He is not afraid of using another person's possible weakness against them. He has a certain fondness for it that never dims. This malice could be fined as more of a playful malice, but it is uncomfortable all the same.

Surprisingly enough, Campanella can from time to time display what he would consider compassion towards those that would be useful to him or those he served from his own world and offer them a chance to join the side he is on. Though he has profound moments of double crossing and sinister deeds just waiting around the corner, he does have the ability to side with those he might call allies. The only difference here is that the word ally might mean very little to him should he decide that the person he is allying with will become useless and therefore more useful as a pawn to be discarded at any point. Trust is not something easily defined by him or by others that would observe him and the actions he makes towards others.

In the end, he is a master manipulator and was the original member of Ouroboros that recruited the other members. Trickery and under-handed methods are nothing new to him and mixing it along with his normally overly cheery attitude can be a bad mix for anybody unless they can actually tolerate him. It will be possible for others to do so, but likely the first people to do so would be from his own world and, even then, it will be tough. Some of his jokes are simply tasteless and he is simply trying to get a response from the other person.

Yoh Asakura ♨ Shaman King ♨ Personality

[personal profile] breaks_destiny 2012-03-04 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Note: Unfortunately, despite being the main character many important traits of Yoh's personality aren't shown until later on, basically we don't even come to fully understand him until the end of the whole series. However, since those traits are always there and it's just a case of them not being shown beforehand, this section is going to have references to events that happen later than his current canon point.

Born to be a shaman, belonging to a family of shamans and on the edge of the start of a new Shaman Fight, many things in Yoh's life were predetermined even before he knew about them. For many that would have been an annoyance, something that would burden them and suffocate them. Yoh wasn't different, though his take on things was one of resignation rather than confrontation. Since everything was decided for him, why should he bother? He would just go with the flow, easily and without worry and live a simple life that way, without responsibilities or having to make decisions himself. He had no interest in humans whom he saw as sheep, stupid and without a real reason to exist. Humans who were too blind to even see the spirits around them, even those of their loved ones, humans who treated the world as their possession rather than realizing that the world was allowing them to live on it, not the other way around. Humans who teased and bullied him for being different, even without his shamanic powers, just his music tastes were enough to be labeled as different without any of them bothering to try to understand. Back in the day, he really thought that if he ever became the Shaman King, humanity would cease to exist because he hated them all.

But all that is now in the past. Though he still can't say he likes humans much and he still thinks that they are pretty close to cancer cells to the world, he hasn't lost hope nor thinks that destroying them would do any good. He understands that it's too late in humanity's story for them to change their behavior and flaws by themselves, but that's something that the Shaman King could do, fixing the situation so humans don't ruin the planet anymore without sacrificing anyone in the process. A peaceful and calm world where he could live an easy and relaxed life, that's Yoh's dream and objective to participate in the Shaman Fight. However, most of this is something only very few know, sure, he tells everyone that if he becomes the Shaman King all he will care for is to live an easy and peaceful life, but he doesn't share the deepest parts of himself. He doesn't openly share how he himself doesn't think highly of humans even though he defends them even going as far as asking Hao to promise to not kill many humans even though humans themselves are attacking them first. Only inside of his mind or when he knows that no one can see them, he stops pretending to be fine with humans.

In many ways one could say that Yoh is pretty hypocrite, to be able to scold Hao and others for killing shamans and humans even though he himself isn't really a fan of them and even admits that they do little good for the world. It can be say as well that he's an "elitist" of sorts as he's the first one to make a difference between shamans, people who aren't shamans but can see spirits and the rest of the people. Though this is mostly true for all the shamans in the series, Yoh seems to consider that shamans and humans are different races, otherwise there's no real sense in him making differences when he speaks about both groups. For Yoh the world divides itself in spirits, shamans, special humans who can see spirits even though they can't do the same things shamans do, and the rest of the humanity, the latest being the main problem of the planet due their lack of conscience regarding their own planet or their own past.

It's worth to note, though, that despite those negative traits and his inherent dislike to humans, Yoh is someone capable of forgiving and accepting others easily, and he deeply believes in that people can change, even for just a moment and if they are really lucky for even longer. Many of his friends are actually people he was at odds with initially for diverse reasons, yet all of them became dear to his heart and people he trusted almost completely (though even if he didn't show the deepest corners of his soul they knew him well enough to understand them already). One of the best examples of how accepting Yoh can be is Ryu, who was merely a punk at the start of the series, unable to see spirits and with little to no respect for the death but slowly develops into a shaman himself once his powers to see spirits awake and he undergoes a severe training. Ryu also provides a great example of how Yoh deals with people in general, though once he becomes a shaman Ryu shows nothing but devotion and respect for Yoh, treating him as his boss, Yoh never treats Ryu as anything but a friend. Even with his "elitist" view of the world, Yoh simply can't treat someone, be it a shaman, a spirit or a human, as something that is inferior to him, neither as something superior though so it's both a good and a bad thing as he will respect everyone the same way no matter their position or anything. If he thinks someone is wrong he will scold them, even if it's the holiest being in the world, just as he will praise someone for something done that he considers good even if said person is the biggest evil in the world.

Yoh believes with his whole soul that a person who can see spirits can't be purely evil, no matter what they do and say, deep down there must be some good in them. At the same time, Yoh knows from experience that even normal humans can come to be able to see spirits, which is most surely another reason as to why he can't bring himself to hate them completely. He knows from personal experience that everyone is always more than what they seem to be on first sight and always tries to get a good look at their hearts, so he can come to understand them. This desire to understand others probably comes from an experience in his childhood with one spirit who taught him that to have an opinion on something based just on general thoughts was wrong, ever since then he decided to ditch away the negative thoughts as much as he could and focus on the good things in order to be able to make friends, because if he wrapped himself with negativity he wouldn't be different from humans who acted like sheep, always going with the flow of times and not being even true to their own hearts. This is not to say that Yoh doesn't have negative thoughts, it should be clear already that he has them, and even with his capacity to forgive others there are many things he won't forgive easily and which will get his anger to show up. For a clear example of how Yoh can get angered one just has to look at his second fight during the first round of the Shaman Fight, when he faced Faust as an opponent. Before the start of the match, Faust decided to use Manta, Yoh's first human friend, as a guinea pig as he was curious about his body size, because of that Yoh lost his calm attitude and was truly angered. However, months after the event, Yoh had no major trouble accepting Faust into his team for the second round and even described the man as a "very innocent person" despite everything, having come to understand the man's heart beyond the madness on the surface.

Because Yoh tries his best to always live positively, leaving behind bad thoughts, he is someone who truly believes that there will always be a way that "everything will work out" as long as he doesn't give up and continues moving forward. He also refuses to worry too much about things as he thinks that thinking too much some times just doesn't do any good, and it definitively doesn't match his wish of having an easy and relaxed life. He always accepts everything that happens around him, this doesn't mean he doesn't oppose things but he does so in a way that doesn't reject them but instead aims to change them. He always shows a cheerfully carefree attitude that often makes people think he just can't take things seriously which often drives other nuts, but in truth Yoh seriously thinks about everything even if he doesn't constantly worry about it and because of that he can make decisions easily and without having a troubled heart haunted by second guessing himself. There are few things that Yoh does that are thoughtless, even if at times it seems he didn't think about them before he acted.

Loneliness and abandonment play major roles in Yoh's life since he was born. He has felt lonely ever since he was little and in fact his characteristic orange headphones and his Bob music collection are his because of that feeling and originally they belonged to his father, as a kid who barely saw his father, Yoh ended up picking up items that belonged to his father as an attempt to feel closer to the man who was mostly a stranger for him, to have some connection with someone besides being a shaman. Yoh never showed signs of feeling lonely, only those who paid close attention to the details were able to see through him, which surprises him, however he doesn't deny it when asked about it. Even after he decided to ditch the negativity in him and be positive to be able to make friends of any kind, Yoh was still shunned and teased at school for being a shaman, a power most didn't understand and even feared. So he has always been lonely, even after meeting Anna, the girl he loves with his whole heart -and it was love at first sight-, loneliness still clung to his heart until he met Manta who became his first friend, as a human and as a living person. Because of this Yoh is someone who deeply treasures his friends, not just Manta but all the other friends he has managed to make ever since the start of the Shaman Fight, even if they aren't perfect and have the darkest of the shadows in their pasts, Yoh cares for them and is more than ready to do anything for them, to protect them or to save them. Even giving up his own dreams so they can regain their life and pursue their own dreams. Also, even though he understands his friends' strength and how important is to fight one's own battles, Yoh isn't a stranger to trying to do things on his own, not involving his friends so they don't get in trouble or have to endure something bad.

William T. Spears | Kuroshitsuji | Not Reserved

[personal profile] goesbythebook 2012-03-05 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: William T. Spears of the Death God Dispatch Association Management Division is exactly as his title makes him sound. He is devoted to doing his job properly and in a timely manner, without undue delay or emotion interfering with the process. As he tells Ronald Knox, doing the job calmly prevents mistakes, and making more of it than mere work is just wasteful. As one would expect, William approaches the work in just this manner, showing nothing but faint emotions at best. He’s thorough and wishes he could expect no less of his subordinates. However, given that his subordinates lack his particular brand of devotion to the work, this isn’t always the case. He ends up being held responsible for their messes, and makes no effort to hide his irritation at it. He’s a stickler for the rules to say the least, and when he catches Grell Sutcliffe in violation of numerous regulations, William holds nothing back as he stomps Grell into the pavement—literally. He’s blunt and honest, openly criticizing Grell and Ronald for their failures on the job, and Sebastian for being a demon and devouring souls. William has little in the way of social graces or tact (although he does understand social decorum), to such a degree that he would out himself as a death god on the job if everything he says wasn’t taken as a joke when he’s in the Noah’s Ark Circus. In his first meeting with Sebastian, even as he apologizes for Grell’s actions, he openly badmouths demons in general—although he calls Sebastian slightly better for being on a leash, or contracted to a human. Also as part of his job, William seeks to maintain a spotless appearance. He’s shown to carry a comb for when his hair gets ruffled, and wears a suit under all circumstances, even when he is undercover as a circus performer. He is the only death god seen thus far that has not somehow modified his outfit with personal touches (such as Ronald’s white shoes and loose tie, and Grell’s red coat and lady’s shoes).

Ultimately, William understands that he as a death god exists for a single purpose, and has in turn willingly devoted himself to this purpose. Nothing more, nothing less.

Strengths:
Physical Although we have yet to see William fight in the manga, death gods are shown to have speed and strength far above normal humans. William is also shown to be very agile and dexterous, as he easily meets the requirements to get into the Noah’s Ark Circus. Additionally, William has very good senses; when Sebastian tries to sneak away by getting out of the top bunk, William wakes and stops him within seconds, in response to Sebastian grabbing the edge of the bed. Also, when Ciel crosses the line William has laid down to divide the room, William is able to note when the boy goes over by a few centimeters. Because he is a god, William is effectively immortal, although it is implied a death god can be killed by their own weapons, death scythes. William’s scythe takes the form of a branch trimmer, and can extend extraordinary distance; the farthest thus far has been from the top of a multistory building down into the ground below, with no given limit. William’s scythe, like all others, is able to cut through anything, save the scythe of another death god. He also uses it to balance or pick up things. Most importantly, William uses his scythe to collect the Cinematic Record of those due to die according to the death list. Cinematic Records are the memories and life of a person, which death gods use to judge a human. If they will have a significant impact on the world, they may be allowed to live. However, William himself says this is incredibly rare. When a Cinematic Record is “played,” a person’s life will flash before their eyes, and is also viewable by the death god.

Mental/Emotional To say William is set in his ways is an understatement. He’s devoted to his purpose, and to the rules and regulations of death gods. To this effect, he will not be manipulated or swayed from his efforts. William does not compromise even when the promise might be beneficial to him in the future, such as when Sebastian asked to be allowed to leave the Noah’s Ark Circus without Ciel for an hour in exchange for never eating souls in William’s jurisdiction again. William is utterly unaffected by emotions, save irritation based in not being allowed to do his job properly. He is completely detached, and thus not emotionally overwhelmed or swayed even in the direst of situations. He has a job to do and he will do it, regardless of the pain or suffering that may cause others. In turn, he also seems to get no pleasure out of a job well done, and doesn’t fall prey to the same bloodthirst as Grell does.

Weaknesses:
Physical Given that William is never seen without his scythe, he may fall victim to the same weakness of other death gods in that his combative ability greatly decreases without it.

Mental/Emotional William’s goal of doing his job quietly and without emotion translates into an utter coldness that leaves him showing no sympathy or mercy to anyone around him. When Ronald and Grell are severely injured by the Undertaker, William still expects them to complete their jobs, on time, and then to file a report about the rogue death god. Additionally, instead of showing them pity, his primary complaint is that their failure to do the job properly has caused him to be dispatched. This same callousness causes William to speak his mind without regard for those around him, and he openly insults Sebastian, Ciel, Grell, and probably just about anyone else he comes across and deems unworthy in some way. This all in turn makes him pretty fail at doing undercover work; William’s open muttering about the quality of souls almost outs him as a death god, save for the fact that he’s taken as an occult fan boy by the people around him.

Varric Tethras | Dragon Age | Reserved

[personal profile] mynnymac 2012-03-05 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Feast your eyes on the Paragon of Dwarfhood. (Well, the beards in Orzammar may disagree, but we’re not asking for their opinions, right? Right.) Varric is the friendliest, wittiest, and most handsome dwarf you will ever meet. Merchant by trade, storyteller by choice, he’s never more comfortable than when he has an audience to weave a tale for. Not just any tale, either. Varric specializes in the grandiose, the larger-than-life. He is also prone to exaggerate, so don’t be surprised if he… “tweaks” a couple details to achieve his desired effect. Or if he just makes something up altogether.

When Varric isn't sitting by a fireplace in a tavern telling stories to anyone who'll listen, which is most of the time, he can be found adventuring in Kirkwall. Varric loves living a great story as much as telling one, and the Champion is one of the more interesting people he's ever gotten to know--everything important in the city seems to gravitate around Hawke. And Varric's not about to miss a minute of it. If he does miss a minute of it, well, that's what his extensive network of "contacts" is for. There can't be any gaps in the story, after all. But don't worry--he uses this power for good. Usually.

Whether he is simply enhancing the facts or telling outright lies; whether he's experiencing adventures himself or relying on his spies' testimony, what matters is that he would much rather be doing that than attending meetings with the rest of the Dwarven Merchants’ Guild. Of course, being the younger son, his presence was never really needed before. But with his brother Bartrand getting to know the walls of a sanitarium cell these days, well. Suddenly, he’s found himself the head of the Tethras brood. Or what’s left of it. Luckily, Varric has his trusted extended family to take care of all that pesky responsibility for him. Many of which might…not exist. Alright. They are entirely imaginary.

No matter who you are (unless you are also a member of the Dwarven Merchants’ Guild, in which case, he’ll be keeping his distance--but if you could please contact his cousin Elmand he’ll get back to you), Varric wants to be your friend. So many interesting people in the world, so many potential tales just waiting, begging to be told! Not that that’s his only interest in people, far from it. He genuinely has a cheerful disposition, most of the time, and has the capacity to win over pretty much everyone but the most determined grump. He’s incredibly laid-back and agreeable, so you’d have to be quite a jerk not to earn his friendship in the long run. Those who enjoy violence overmuch would find it difficult, for instance: The Coterie? No finesse. Why gut a man to take his money when you can persuade him to donate it with well-timed blackmail and a smile? Why go out of your way to make enemies of others when you can earn friends, and all the story fodder that entails? Not to mention someone to watch your back when the numerous baddies in Kirkwall come calling (as opposed to, you know, stabbing you in it). No, if you’re of the thuggish variety, Varric won’t be warming up to you anytime soon. Nearly anyone else? Good luck trying to chase him off, especially if you share his love for witty sarcasm. He’s buying you a drink, and you are going to like it.

Don’t let the mention of blackmail make you think Varric is too much of a snake, though—the man does have a moral compass. Maybe it points just slightly past north compared to most people, but it definitely exists. It's also a little more shaky when it comes to Bartrand: being betrayed by his own brother in the Deep Roads is honestly shocking to him, as he would never dream of doing the same thing himself (well, maybe if the payoff was a great deal higher than a "lousy idol," as he put it). Thereafter, of course, he's quite happy at the prospect of seeing his brother dead. No, if you've worked hard enough to earn Varric's betrayal, you'll likely see it coming.

Most of the time, however, Varric possesses charm that could melt the heart of the most distant ice queen. With his ridiculous good looks, a silver tongue only a great storyteller could possess, and an inclination towards dry, salty, delicious humor, Varric is an ideal companion in any situation—though perhaps best in those that require quick thinking and smooth talking.

(But please, don’t get too excited, ladies. Varric’s heart belongs to another, and Bianca is the jealous type.)

makelove: Nyanko-sensei from Natsume Yuujinchou with a shit-eating grin. ([ Nyanko-sensei | PROBLEM? ])

Character

Name: Nyanko-sensei (Real Name: Madara)
Fandom: Natsume Yuujinchou
Gender: n/a (Spirits in Natsume Yuujinchou don't have gender differentiation in most cases, though he's generally accepted as male by the fandom. He does, however, have the ability to turn into a human on some occasions, in which case he manages to adopt a tomboy female persona or take the guise of Natsume himself.)
Age: ??? (His age is never explicitly stated, but he is a powerful spirit and has stated, multiple times, that human beings have lives that pass in the blink of an eye. So "old" about covers it. Spirits live much longer than human beings and Madara receives a lot of respect for his age/prowess, so he's probably one of the older ones even in terms of 'spirit years,' so to speak.)
Time Period: Right after S2E10.
Wing Color: White, but sized for a normal cat. Nyanko's fat, so they just look tiny...
History: [[ NOTE: "Reiko" will refer to Reiko Natsume always, but if it says "Natsume" and just Natsume, that refers to Takashi Natsume, her grandson, since that is how Nyanko-sensei refers to the two of them, despite Natsume being their family name. ]]

Far across the lands, many spirits know the name Madara. A powerful spirit, majestic and noble, his name is as infamous as his light of divine judgment that he uses to strike down his foes. Or, you know, just the low-level spirits who complain about what a horrible drunk he is.

What paths Madara had crossed in his many years, building his name and his power, are quite the mystery but what we do know is that Madara was fairly familiar with the likes of a young woman named Reiko. Reiko Natsume was rapidly becoming as infamous amongst youkai as Madara was. The Natsume name was making its way into the hearts and fangs of spirits everywhere, and this interested Madara. He approached Reiko and, though his name was never claimed by her, did hold quite some interest in her and her Book of Friends-- a book of the names of many spirits she had encountered.

Unfortunately, Madara would never see the end of Reiko's journey. A strange occurrence passed that may or may not have involved gratuitous amounts of alcohol and Madara was sealed at a shrine near Yatsuhara.

Years passed with Madara sealed inside of a maneki neko (fortune cat) statue at the shrine. That is, until a young man tripped over the seal and released him from his bindings! Madara recognized the boy immediately, though like many others had mistaken him for Reiko. The resemblance was uncanny-- Reiko's grandson Takashi Natsume looked very much like her, though male once he looked more closely. Reiko was dead and this boy had inherited the Book of Friends, a tool which he knew nothing of.

Madara rushed off to claim it, but was soon unexpectedly beaten by this new Natsume and fed. Natsume started calling him Nyanko, given that he remained in a form similar to the maneki neko he had so long been sealed in, and Madara insisted on being called his "Sensei" after declaring that he would act as Natsume's bodyguard so long as he had the Book of Friends. This is when Madara begins to go by the name of Nyanko-sensei. Natsume promises Nyanko-sensei that he will receive the Book of Friends when he dies as long as he continues to act as his bodyguard while he returns the names within it, meaning that Sensei gets to have any of the remaining names under his power.

Nyanko-sensei begins living with Takashi as a pet cat, but doesn't quite act like the majestic and powerful being he sets himself up to be. While Natsume works hard to return the names of the spirits whom Reiko had beaten, Nyanko-sensei looks out for him when necessary along the way and eats everything in sight, sometimes even coming home from drinking parties at night. Over time, Nyanko and Natsume grow attached to each other as friends, though the two of them both refuse to admit to it and refer to their relationship as either a "master and pet" (though neither of them will agree who is the pet), predator and prey, or bodyguard and guarded relationship. Even if it would be easier for Sensei to just let someone kill off Natsume and he take the Book, he protects Natsume to the best of his ability, even if they have arguments.
makelove: Ghastly Garcon from Kaidan Restaurant up close and waving. ([ Ghastly Garcon | Hiiiiii. ])

[personal profile] makelove 2012-03-05 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: The easiest way to describe Nyanko-sensei is to call him a hybrid between a cranky old man, an actual cat, and a bad drunk. There's a lot more to him than that kind of basic description though. The first and foremost prominent trait of Nyanko-sensei's that drives a lot of his interactions with others is his pride. Madara is an extremely powerful spirit and he makes sure to point it out as often as possible, whether through insisting that everyone attach "sensei" to whatever they call him if it isn't Madara or through calling others "lowly beings" or "weaklings." Nyanko-sensei refers to almost everyone in a condescending manner, placing himself as a divine creature. There is no confirmation that he actually is some kind of divine being, but he is certainly powerful and displays the capability to defeat or subdue almost everything that attacks Natsume or himself.

His pride doesn't get in the way of him having a sense of humor though. Despite that he has enough ego to power a small village for five hundred thousand years, he does take a lot of shots to it from others. "Pigcat," "tanuki," and "fat cat" are some of many names that he gets called because of his size, but it never stops him from doing what he gets made fun of for because he knows that he loves eating and loves doing whatever he wants. His true form is much more majestic and doesn't reflect what he actually eats, unlike his maneki neko appearance. While he does get offended and bicker with whoever makes fun of him, he takes much more offense to someone attempting to infringe upon his territory-- namely upon Natsume.

Nyanko-sensei's original reason for staying with Natsume was because he would gain the Book of Friends in the event of Natsume's death, but Nyanko-sensei grew attached to him fairly quickly and is quick to make certain that he's alright. If Natsume is being attacked by something he knows that Natsume can handle, however, he won't step in. (He may even stand by and make fun of him, even doing a "sexy belly dance" in one episode.) It's unlikely that this is any kind of attempt to get Natsume to use his own strength to do things, but that he finds it amusing as long as Natsume isn't in any kind of real danger.

Sensei is always in favor of getting a good laugh at the expense of others and his reasoning for most of what he does is extremely selfish. Achieving his own needs and wants are priority above all else. Nyanko will always focus on getting excess amounts of food and sake whenever he can, leaving Natsume to fend for himself if there isn't an immediate danger. If something happens that can be counted as a mistake in his capabilities as a bodyguard, he will simply blame the victim (almost always Natsume) for not being able to take care of himself. Things that he includes in not his fault: all of the _____ missing from the fridge, broken items, Natsume getting hurt/captured, anything bad. He'll take credit for anything good that happens though, and expect to be rewarded. Usually with more food or sake.

And when Madara gets ahold of his sake? Watch out. He is the worst drunk you have ever met. He gets drunk, eats everything in sight, sings really badly despite being tone-deaf, complains about everything, picks on the spirits he drinks with that are weaker than him, catches things like frogs and birds, and may even bring them home. He's probably the only overweight cat going around smelling like sake when he comes home. Call him on being a bad drunk though? It's your funeral. He'll summon his divine light to purify any spirits who do it and potentially go for a headbutt on any humans who do.

Fortunately, Nyanko isn't drunk most of the time. He still gets cranky when he's not intoxicated and he and Natsume will argue relentlessly. This kind of argument only reflects their friendship, though, because Nyanko's attitude means that he's very brash toward those that he likes. Those he doesn't like, he has no problem getting serious with and threatening to or actually trying to eat. He's got what he likes to call a "gourmet" pallet though, so he won't eat lowly beings or, in terms of people food, leftovers.

As a cat, he's completely spoiled in this sense. Touko and Shigeru Fujiwara, the couple that Natsume and therefore Nyanko stays with, both enjoy Nyanko's presence, though they don't always get his name right. It seems to be a consistent gag that no one can keep a consistent name for Nyanko-sensei. Touko calls him Nyankichi, Shigeru calls him Nyangoro, and Tanuma calls him Ponta for instance. Madara will respond to all of these names and is generally fine with anything, though he will insist on adding "Sensei" if it is someone that he can speak to because they are in on Natsume's secret (that he can see spirits).

Affectionate pet names aren't the only similarities that Nyanko shares with cats. Despite that he proclaims frequently that he is not a cat, he displays a number of behaviors similar to real cats. Playing with cattail toys, rolling around, enjoying petting, and many other cat-like behaviors are frequent occurrences that will get him teased by others since he constantly insists that he's nothing like a cat. When called on it, he'll state that it's because he's been in his cat-like state for so long that he picked up the instincts. His spoiled attitude is also reminiscent of a feline.

Though a lot of Nyanko-sensei is comedic relief in terms of his behavior when he's not saving Natsume, he does have his serious moments. There are many instances in which Nyanko-sensei will stay fairly quiet, oft times while observing Natsume's behaviors. Natsume is a huge influence on Nyanko-sensei and definitely allows Nyanko to better understand human beings, even if Natsume is a bit on the socially awkward side, and to actually appreciate them despite wariness about their entirely short lifespans. Getting attached is unfortunate, but it's clear that Nyanko thinks it is worth it due to his attachment to Natsume.

Attachment aside, his like of Natsume and human beings didn't develop until he spent more time with the boy. Natsume unsealed Nyanko-sensei and he does show enough humbleness to repay that debt with his initial offer to become Takashi's guardian. That is to say, even though Nyanko is loud, full of complaint, possibly sadistically teasing, and selfish, he does have a sense of honor and respect for those who do things for you. For all of his faults, he has distinctively good attributes that make him an excellent bodyguard for someone who's just out there to make things right—even if he complains about how much Natsume shouldn’t get involved.

Strengths: Physically, Nyanko-sensei is much stronger in his true form. Sensei spends a significant amount of time in his feline form, in which he is still capable of calling upon his divine light to exorcise low- to mid-level spirits and provides quite a punch in the form of headbutts and tackles, but his true form unleashes most of his power. In his natural form, Madara is physically strong, has sharp teeth, and is huge. These are all advantages in fighting against just about anything and eating just about anything that he deems worthy of eating (though while with Natsume, he very rarely eats any spirits or humans despite consistently threatening to). He also has the ability to shapeshift into human form, though only forms similar to Reiko and Takashi, since they are the only humans he's familiar enough with, physically, to replicate.

Emotionally and mentally, Nyanko-sensei is very strong. He acts quickly, if not impulsively, which shows that he's very good at thinking on his feet and following his better instincts. Being as old as he is, he does show some instances of wisdom and can be very stubborn toward his ways. That said, he does get what he wants a lot of the time. (Even if his choices in what he wants aren't necessarily good.) He's very good at keeping his feelings about people, particularly Natsume, to himself because he knows that Natsume will be dead just as quicky (to him) as Reiko had been.

Nyanko-sensei is also one of very few spirits with enough power to be seen by human beings in any form. In his form as a maneki neko or as a human, he is fully visible to humans. His true form, however, can only be seen by those with spiritual abilities.

Weaknesses: Nyanko-sensei doesn't appear to have many canon weaknesses emotionally, but there a few things that clearly get to him. Despite that he doesn't initially show affection for Natsume, he does develop one that he covers up as Natsume being his prey, his pet, his charge, his subordinate, et cetera. This would normally not be a weakness, but he is shown to fully understand that Natsume will die soon even if he does a good job protecting him, because that's just how human lives are. Many spirits refuse to get attached to humans because of this, but Nyanko-sensei did accidentally and has to deal with the unfortunate side-effects of affection. Usually when it comes up, though, he'll simply fall quiet. This does mean that he tries to prolong Natsume's life as long as possible, though, which can put him in danger.

Physically, Nyanko-sensei can be sealed by someone with enough spiritual power. This is more of a likelihood if he's intoxicated, but fuda spells from a high-powered exorcist or other spirit can seal his powers within him for periods of time. Natsume himself can knock Sensei into a wall with a punch, but Natsume is an exception in terms of natural spiritual abilities.

His other weakness? Though these are more in a can't-say-no sense, food and sake. Nyanko-sensei will do a lot for food and even more for a little extra sake, even if that means leaving Natsume on his own for a bit and getting him kidnapped because Madara decided he needed to get drunk. The way to a spirit's heart is through his stomach after all.

First Person: Q&A please!

Third Person: Thud. Thudthud. It wasn’t a tapping or a scurrying like would normally be heard skittering across rooftops when an animal passes by. None of the subtle grace of a cat, silent and deadly as they stalked their prey from the roof of a building, intent on leaping as soon as they were in distance and unexpected. No, this oddly colored feline was trudging across a rooftop with his full weight, thundering footsteps probably frightening the unlucky homeowners who provided his path.

Good. Maybe they had a dog, that would be funny. Nyanko-sensei listened, silent and unmoving, for the sound of barking or frantic movements of the canine within the house. Nothing; there was no sound to be heard outside of the low chatter of human beings. Nyanko-sensei looked down at the roof, then started stomping his paws in place with a mischievous laugh.

This may have been another world, but that wouldn’t stop Nyanko-sensei from having fun trying to torment the lowly neighborhood pets. Definitely different from someone as great as him—if anyone was a pet around him, it was Natsume! There was a brief pause between his stomping, then the distinctive scraping of claws on the floor, followed by a bark. Nyanko-sensei grinned, more clear than a normal cat’s grinned. A cat’s smile was more of a misinterpretation of mouth shape but this, this was a smug curve of the muscles around his mouth. Something a real cat didn’t have, something only a divine being such as himself could pull off.

The fun wore off pretty quickly though. Being on a roof wasn’t quite as satisfying as being able to tease a dog over the fence. He couldn’t see the dog’s face from here. Nyanko’s eyes turned to the horizon. Even if there didn’t appear to be many other spirits in this place, he really should keep an eye on Natsume. Knowing him, he could find a way to get into trouble even if there wasn’t anything that would try to eat him here because of how many things’ business he stuck his nose into.

Nyanko-sensei began to waddle off of the roof, leaping down in front of the window of the house, where the dog was barking at him. He grinned again, but broke into a run, following his nose to find his self-proclaimed charge.

Mobius One, the player character of Ace Combat 04, is the one who shot down and killed Yellow 4 and eventually Yellow 13. However, despite this Thirteen shows no ill-will towards his rival and is actually respectful of him and his accomplishments.

Yellow 13 will be remembering his previous two years in Luceti, including the drafts, experiments, development, and his CR, especially with Litchi Faye-Ling.

Personality: Yellow 13 is, at heart, a kind, honorable man and consummate soldier. Despite being an antagonist for the player, Yellow 13 is one of the most sympathetic characters in the entire Ace Combat series. He is generally quiet and reserved, but is not antagonistic. He, as the narrator of Ace Combat 04 puts it, exudes an air of invincibility and calm at all times. Displaying a love of music, he is constantly seen in the local bar strumming his acoustic guitar while surrounded by his squadronmates. Thirteen is shown to have a compassionate streak, especially for those he's grown to care about, and has a fondness for dogs.

Thirteen's compassion is most obviously with this interactions with the narrator, an unnamed boy whose parents died early in the war. The narrator lived in San Salvacion, a city belonging to USEA before the war. Shortly after the Erusian invasion, the boy met Yellow 13 in a local bar. Yellow 13 and the narrator quickly formed a bond of friendship, and the narrator found himself living like a member of Yellow Squadron. But perhaps his greatest display of compassion is when Thirteen discovers who planted a bomb on his squadron’s runaway, resulting in damage to several aircraft. The culprit is the daughter of the barkeeper, a person both Thirteen and the Narrator considered a friend. He releases her, rather than turn her in. Surprisingly, the barkeep's daughter's actions ultimately left him more emotionally hurt than outright enranged.

As a soldier, Yellow 13 is a dedicated and skilled fighter pilot. With over 63 confirmed kills to his name, he is the Erusian Ace of Aces. However, despite this impressive kill count, his real pride was that he never lost a wingman in combat until Yellow 4’s death at the hands of Mobius One. Yellow 13 placed the lives of his pilots above his own personal glory at all times, preferring the value of teamwork and wolfpack tactics in bringing Yellow Squadron success over more reckless or risky ones. In a sense, Thirteen was a protector of his wingmates, all the while being a lethal adversary for all who opposed Yellow Squadron. His skill and knowledge of air combat, and the maintenence and performance of modern fighter aircraft are exceptional, to the point of easily being able to identify fuel quality and how it affected Yellow Squadron aircraft.

That said, Thirteen relished the idea of finding a worthy opponent in the skies. He pitied the less skilled pilots he defeated and killed, and longed to find his equal. Thirteen was quoted that if he "were to be defeated at the hands of an equally skilled pilot, he would have no regrets about his death." He eventually got his wish, when he was shot down by Mobius One over the skies of Farbanti in the closing days of the war.

Thirteen's sense of honor extended beyond his duties in the cockpit as well. He was a staunch believer in the rules of honorable combat, calling the bomb that damaged their runway and aircraft an act of cowardly sabotage meant to rob them of their wings on the ground. He also seethed with a silent rage when the Erusian army, his own side, set up anti-aircraft positions on the roof of San Salvacion's hospital. This anger was plainly evident to anyone who knew him, and he was frustrated that he could do nothing to change the tactics of the Erusian armed forces when the tide was quickly turning against them.

Ultimately, Yellow 13 and Yellow Squadron as a whole are shown to be a tragic casualty of war. Despite being the antagonist squadron for the game, they are always portrayed as human, and in fact, noble. But Thirteen perhaps best represents the tragedy of real warfare: an example of a good man who loses everything, all in the line of duty to a country.

Strengths:

Physical: Yellow 13 is a Federal Erusian Air Force pilot. As such, he was subjected to rigorous physical training to allow his body to withstand tremendous G-forces when in flight. So, he’s effectively a man in his prime in good physical condition. He has also received extensive combat training as part of the Federal Erusian Air Force, which includes Escape and Evasion, Survival, and basic ground combat.

He is also one of the best fighter aces in the history of the Strangereal world, so it is needless to say that his skill in operating aircraft (particularly his signature Su-37 Terminator) is virtually unparrelled. His kill count exceeded at least 63, which when placed into comparison with modern Earth makes him something close to superhuman behind the stick.

Mental: Yellow 13 shows a great attention to detail, especially when it comes to maintaining his Su-37. He is capable of noticing the effects of fuel quality and replacement parts on its performance. Additionally, he has extensive knowledge of aeronautics and aircraft of his era. Like any good aviator, he has extensive knowledge of the mechanics, mathematics, physics, and history of flight, though this applies only to Strangereal's history of flight. In addition, he is very in control of his own mind, meaning he remains capable of making decisions in the heat of combat. This control of his more passionate side is probably what gives him his air of invincibility.

Emotional: A stoic soldier, trained to keep his emotions in check. Though he is able to do at will, he still retains his humanity. Yellow 13 is difficult to defeat psychologically as far as normal people go.

Weaknesses:

Physical: Yellow 13 is a normal human, and with it comes all of the weaknesses associated. He is easily hurt or killed by comparison to many of Luceti's supernaturally powered individuals.

Mental: Very few, though he comes from a realistic world. Concepts such as magic and highly advanced science were utterly foreign to him, prior to his previous foray into Luceti. His calmness may also come off as intimidating to others who are not as strong willed, so some might see him as arrogant before getting to know him.

Emotional: Like anyone, he is prone to bouts of depression when someone he cares about is killed. The death of his first wingmate, Yellow 4, hit him particularly hard. He doesn’t take betrayal well either. The betrayal of the barkeep’s daughter and the narrator calling him a fascist out of the heat of the moment wounded Thirteen deeply. Though he never displays such melancholy to the public, it affects him silently.

[personal profile] aiden 2012-03-06 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Terra has a strong personality anchored in loyalty, tenacity and competitiveness. He has grown up in the Land of Departure, alongside his two best friends, Aqua and Ventus, and though he tends to display a stoic disposition, his heart is soft and warm. His best friends ( and to a lesser extent his master, Eraqus ) are his strongest driving force, and he will do anything to protect them -- but Terra is often distracted by his own selfishness and desire to succeed, and this desire often blinds him to truths and makes him easy to manipulate.

The darkness within Terra's heart is strong, and it draws villainous people to him like moths to a flame, and with the proper leverage, these people are able to shape him to their liking. His greatest wish in life is to become a Keyblade Master, and when he fails his Mark of Mastery test, Terra begins to doubt himself, making him easy prey to those who would seek to manipulate him - mainly Xehanort, an elderly Keyblade Master who is greatly revered and experienced. He plays on Terra's doubt and bolsters his ego, nurturing the darkness in his heart with false kindness, leading Terra to believe that with his help, Terra will become the Master that he so desperately wishes to be.

Having no reason to doubt such an esteemed master, Terra bought the lies that Xehanort fed him, and slowly his heart was turned to darkness. When Terra discovered that Aqua had been sent by Eraqus to spy on him, he began even to doubt his friends, which put great pressure on his heart - his love and loyalty towards them was being challenged by his desire for power and his dream of becoming a Master, and Terra was at a loss. Though he treasures his friends, and his connection to them, very deeply, he is also moody and defensive, and when their friendship begins to deteriorate, Terra is too proud to think that he could be at fault for any of it.

But his heart, regardless of darkness, is in the right place. His resolve is steely, and despite however unsure he may feel about his friends, he is still fiercely protective of them -- so much so that when he finds Master Eraqus lifting his keyblade against Ventus, he flies into a defensive rage and takes up arms against his own master, the man he thought of as his father. This protective streak is often what causes Terra to veer away from the path of Light and into the Darkness, and this applies even to those he doesn't know very well, or people he has only just met - he will protect anyone that he feels is in need, without needing a reason to do so. If he needs Darkness to protect others, then so be it; their safety is paramount to his own state of being. Though Terra seems cool and collected ( a front he puts up even around his closest friends ), he is very easy to rile, especially where Ventus and Aqua are concerned - any threat to them will send him into a blind rage, unleashing the Darkness in his heart.

But Terra isn't so proud that he cannot see the error of his ways. When Eraqus falls, when Terra learns that he has been manipulated by Xehanort, he is crushed by guilt and swears that he will never turn against his loved ones again. Though, long before this point, Terra began questioning his ideals and motivations - thanks to Xehanort's meddling, Terra doubted himself from the very beginning. But, eventually, he learns that his use of the Darkness was wrong, and he vows that he will do whatever is necessary to set things right.

So overall, Terra isn't a very complicated guy. He's very easily to manipulate, and though he has a lot of self confidence, it's a simple matter to prey upon his sense of doubt. He's blindly trusting and, on top of that, an awful judge of character. I mean really, he meets Maleficent of all people, Maleficent, she has evil horns on her head, and takes everything that she says completely at face value. And not just Maleficent - Captain Hook, Hades, Master Xehanort - all of these very obviously shady characters make easy prey of Terra. He's very naive in this way, and gullible to a certain extent, because despite the darkness in his heart he really is a good guy. In fact, it's his positive traits that are what inevitably lead him astray, because as the saying goes, the road to hell is paved by good intentions. It's his loyalty, his fierce protectiveness of his friends that ultimately opens his heart to darkness.

Strengths:

Physical:As a keyblade wielder, Terra has an assortment of abilities, both physical and magical, but his skills lie mostly in brute strength. He has a wide assortment of physical commands and counters, and though he can also use many magic spells, he isn't as proficient with them. He's slower, but Terra hits hard, using his well-built physique to deal staggering hits to his adversaries. He's quick to block, and can immediately counterattack with a variety of skills. He can summon his keyblade at any time and under any circumstance, conjuring it from thin air.

Terra is also able to summon up a suit of armor which protects him not only from physical harm, but from outside dangers. For instance, he wears the suit to protect himself when traveling between worlds, through the 'ether', and in outer space type environments. This suit not only enables him to breathe in otherwise unbreathable atmospheres, it also protects him from darkness. Therefore, it serves a secondary purpose as a sort of HAZMAT suit, under the correct circumstances. He wears a piece of armor at his left shoulder, which he can strike to summon his armor at any time. His keyblade can also transform into an air glider, which he can use to travel virtually anywhere - both on worlds, and between them.

Mental/Emotional: Physical skills aside, Terra is also able to 'sense' darkness and light in others, as most keyblade wielders can. He's attuned to the forces and balance of light and dark, and is able to see it reflected in others.

Most of Terra's mental strength lies in his determination and calm, grounded nature. He's calm and collected, persistent. It takes a great deal for him to lose his head, and his temper generally only flares when his friends are in danger. He's also very confident in his abilities even despite Xehanort's doubtful whispers.

Weaknesses:

Physical: Terra is very strong, but he's very slow. He's tall and bulky and when pitted against a quick opponent he will tire very easily. Getting around his defenses can be quite easy if you're fast enough. Sure enough, he packs a ridiculously hard punch when he lands a hit, but he's relatively easy to dodge. Also his magical skills are mediocre at best, and though he has an array of spells at his disposal he's not incredibly proficient with them.

Mental/Emotional: Well these are easy! He's incredibly easy to manipulate, and despite his confidence it doesn't take much to make him doubt himself. His ego is quick to bruise, and good lord his intuition when it comes to judging others is just nonexistent. He's overly trusting and will help almost anyone with almost anything almost without question, and this gets him into trouble quite often considering how many villains zero in on this particular weakness and go to town on him.

Generally it's Terra's emotional strengths that are his greatest weaknesses. His loyalty, his fierce protectiveness and devotion to his friends -- all of these are easily turned around on him and used against him to open his heart to darkness, again and again. He's naive to a fault, and also kind of emotionally stunted. Terra is so focused on training that he doesn't really spend too much time interacting with anyone aside from Aqua and Ventus, and he has a tendency to tunnel-vision on things like competition, and gaining strength and power, which he all but obsesses over. Terra's also very moody, and prone to sullen silences and quiet angsting.

First Person: Q & A please!

Third Person:

Two weeks. Two weeks he had been here now, and still he wasn't sure how to settle in. Aqua and Ventus were here, which would have made things a bit easier if he ..

.. if he hadn't been avoiding them. And avoiding them was no easy task. It wasn't that he didn't want to see them or talk to them or spend time with them - on the contrary, having them here beside him was the biggest blessing he could have asked for - but it was difficult to talk to them. To look into their eyes and feel the disappointment that he imagines is there.

They don't know. They don't know about Xehanort, about what happened in the Keyblade Graveyard, about the x-blade, or, or..

They don't know how weak he had been, how weak he had become, how Xehanort had played him like a fiddle, used him so easily, manipulated him from the get-go. They didn't know how very eagerly he had played into Xehanort's hands. They didn't know that, back home, Terra had nothing to return to but an empty shell. How could he tell them? How could he ever explain what had happened? Keeping it a secret felt like lying somehow, but the idea of revealing it filled him with panic and disgrace and a cold, strange fear that closed around him like a fist. So he had opted instead to keep away from them, to distract them, to wriggle away when the conversation grew too tight or pointed. Of course they'd picked it up by now - they were his best friends after all, the two people in the world who knew him better than anyone, of course they'd know when something wasn't sitting right with him.

Sooner or later he'd have to tell them.

Terra sighed, his broad shoulders slumping, the chilly March breeze ruffling his dark hair as he stared down at the his hands in his lap. The ground felt cold beneath him but he had been sitting here for so long now that he hardly felt it anymore. Soon enough he would need to head back, he'd have to see their smiling faces and feel the guilt and shame ripping away at him from the inside. And these wings, these stupid wings mocking him with their color, teasing him every time he'd catch a glimpse of them in a mirror or a window, reflected in a puddle or a lake - he hated them. His weakness displayed for all the world to see.

Scowling, Terra shoved himself up from the grass and brushed off his pants, raising his eyes once more to the vast sky above him before turning for home.

Character

Name: Chell
Fandom: Portal
Gender: Female
Age: 23 (plus the many years/decades/centuries she was in stasis, but is biologically and physically 23)
Time Period: After the end of Portal 2
Wing Color: Orange
History: Chell's bio on the Portal Wiki
Personality: Chell is one tough cookie. It's unknown how long she was in the Aperture Science labs before she began testing, but she probably spent a good deal of time deprived of human contact, only interacting with robots. Because of this, she hardly speaks. She is able to speak, but has developed such a cold exterior from being a test subject and enduring psychological torment from robots for so long that she has nothing to say. She knows that you can't reason with a robot, that they probably feed off what people say.

So, basically, Chell refuses to take anyone's crap, and she has an incredible will to survive. When GLaDOS says many things to Chell through her testing, calling her fat, mocking the possible fact that she was abandoned at birth, calling her a murderer, Chell refuses to give into it. She is likely thinking horrible things about wanting to mutilate these robots, but never protests what they say. Instead, she takes action.

Chell is not stupid. When she's being tested, she knows that there are no observers watching her. She knows that something is amiss, particularly seeing as the only thing interacting with her is GLaDOS. Then later on, things get worse as Chell finds Doug Rattmann's sketches on the walls, warning her of GLaDOS's malicious intent, but Chell decides to play along with GLaDOS for the time being, knowing she probably couldn't escape the lab at that time. She knows when to play along and when not to, so she will go along with a plan if it seems beneficial at the moment, or until she can think of her own plan.

When GLaDOS finally tries to kill her by incinerating her, that's when Chell has had the last straw, and goes to find the evil computer and kill her. Even though GLaDOS attempts to dissuade Chell by saying that it was "all part of the test," and that there is to be a party and cake for her, Chell ignores it. Due to this, Chell is not likely to believe any good intentions people have, especially if something has warned her beforehand of possible evil intent. And it's not like Chell just decided to escape from the lab. She knew she had to dismantle GLaDOS before she had a hope of getting away. Besides, she knew that this computer was clearly no good. If Chell was going to be incinerated, there were probably other test subjects before her that had suffered the same fate (as far as she knew), so she had to put a stop to it.

Chell has good intentions, but she is stubborn and tough. She dismantled GLaDOS, and when she encountered the newly revived GLaDOS later on with Wheatley, she wanted to get back at her by switching GLaDOS's core with Wheatley's. She knew it would not only piss GLaDOS off, but that it would be beneficial for her, and she could finally escape from the lab, as Wheatley had seemed trustworthy at the time (ha ha ha, she was so wrong). Even though she does not like robots, when it came down to the two of them: one who genuinely wanted to help her and one who wanted to kill her, Chell had no choice but to go along with the one who seemed to want to help her.

But then their roles were reversed and Chell had to help GLaDOS out later on to defeat Wheatley. Chell helped GLaDOS because she was promised her freedom, and also because if she couldn't escape from the lab, it would explode (due to Wheatley being incompetent). She didn't have much choice there either.

But her will to live is incredible. When it seemed Wheatley was going to kill her with his trap, she stood up, grabbed her Portal gun, and kept fighting. She even shot a portal at the moon, knowing that she could possibly die from space exposure, but she still held on, letting Wheatley be ejected into space. And she survived, because she was incredibly determined to do so. And she wanted her freedom. Also, her will to live is indeed so strong that GLaDOS finally willingly frees her at the end of Portal 2 because attempting to kill her is just "too difficult."

Chell is not a complete Space Racist though. She does care about the Companion Cube. They are sentient but abused by GLaDOS, immediately to be euthanized after use. Chell is extremely reluctant to incinerate the Cube, but sees no other way out of the room, so she does euthanize it. GLaDOS mocks her for it later, but Chell is able to ignore it, knowing that GLaDOS was the one who forced her to get rid of it.

However, when Chell finally gains her freedom at the end of Portal 2, the Cube she euthanized is given back to her, having survived the incinerator, and she takes it with her. Part of the reason she does like the Cube is because Doug Rattmann had scribbled on the walls about the virtues of the Cube. Chell escapes the lab with the Cube in tow, rescuing it from any further abuse by GLaDOS. It's possible Chell also developed an attachment to the Cube, since it was the only thing she interacted with for so long that didn't abuse her.

Even though she develops a closer connection to GLaDOS in Portal 2, she's still obviously does not trust the AI, especially since Chell thinks that GLaDOS deleted her human component, Caroline, from her system, which is the thing that gave GLaDOS any compassion she had for Chell. Her relationship with GLaDOS, though, is still complicated. It wouldn't be out of the question for Chell to have developed some sort of Stockholm Syndrome complex toward her, but with Chell's stubbornness, it's probably not completely likely. But GLaDOS did serenade Chell on her way out of the lab, calling her "my dear," and "beautiful," and such. Chell probably has a mix of emotions concerning GLaDOS, but would be very, very, very reluctant to trust her again. She only trusted GLaDOS against Wheatley because Chell would have exploded otherwise.

So basically, Chell's will to survive outweighs the hatred she has for robots. However, she still refuses to speak with them. Her actions speak louder than words, after all. Chell will probably not speak much in Luceti unless she develops a strong connection with someone. She probably won't look at all happy either, not wanting to trust anyone. Are these people in Luceti the evil scientists who locked her up in the Aperture Science labs? Are they like Cave Johnson: completely mad with power? She will be happy to be out in the fresh air, there's no doubt about that. But interaction with people will be minimal.

Character

Name: Tatsumi Seiichirou
Fandom: Yami no Matsuei
Gender: Male
Age: Appears 29; much older than that.
Time Period: From the current point in the manga; in the middle of the Kamakura arc.
Wing Color: a chestnut brown
History: http://reflections-2.livejournal.com/16780.html There is a lot of good information here by a fellow Tatsumi-fan.

To be honest, we don’t know an awful lot about Tatsumi’s life. It isn’t known what he did when he was alive or even how old he was when he died, or how he died. We know that he’s been with the Summons department for quite some time, though not as long as Tsuzuki. Based on when Tsuzuki died - Tsuzuki being born in 1900 and dying when he was 26 -- and Tatsumi being Tsuzuki's 3rd partner, he probably died in the 30s or even early 40s. We know he was 29 when he died.

In vol. 5 he tells Hisoka that he had a younger sister, and we know that his mother was of noble birth, eloped, and didn’t really know how to take care of a family. He tells Hisoka that he ‘killed her’ but we don’t know if this is literal or figurative; he feels intense guilt and/or responsibility for her death, blaming himself.

We also know that he was Tsuzuki’s 3rd partner, but he wasn’t able to deal with Tsuzuki’s pain and misery over being a shinigami, as it reminded him too much of his own guilt. He felt helpless to give Tsuzuki comfort, as he similarly felt helpless in dealing with his mother’s sadness, so he ended the partnership. So now he’s the Summons Department secretary, where he rules with an iron calculator. Few things make him as unhappy as having to spend past his budget, but at least he can keep an eye on his friends.

We also know that his mother was noble-born and he felt an intense need to take care of her, as she didn't really know how to run a home. He also had a sister whom we know nothing about.

Personality: Tatsumi has a lot of facets to his personality, but the one thing that seems to stay steady is his dependability. As a shinigami he's reserved and keeps a cool head when crises arise. He saves money like a fiend and is always prepared. He has a strong sense of duty and justice, he pays attention to details and he knows when to tread carefully as well as when to be forceful and assertive. While Tatsumi may not be as clever as Watari or as powerful as Tsuzuki, he's definitely a planner and executor; he's driven and he knows when to take charge, and above all he's pleased with and highly motivated by a job well-done -- to the point that he probably works too much and gives too much. He's clearly a workaholic.

In his relationships with others, Tatsumi is also dependable, as well as loyal and thoughtful. It's clear that thinking about others: what they'll need, what they're doing, etc is a part of his daily routine and he takes care to pay attention. Unfortunately sometimes this leads to him living somewhat vicariously; Tatsumi has been known to say that he's happy as long as others are happy, particularly Tsuzuki, and sometimes he puts people's needs before his own to a fault, such as when he's willing to let Tsuzuki die because that's what he believes Tsuzuki wants. He can be harsh when he's unhappy and he has a tendency to lecture, but it's only because he wants the other person to shape up and be better. Although he does suffer from a guilt-ridden past, he moves through it with mostly success, and isn't so easily shut down by it like Tsuzuki.

Despite the fact that he is caring and kind, he's often a bit hard to approach. The ones that know him, particularly the other shinigami, know that he's typically more bark and less bite, but he also has the uncanny ability to be very intimidating without trying - Tatsumi means what he says. Although he's very professional, he does at times let his guard down when he's with his friends, and although he's frugal he doesn't mind enjoying the nice things in life (as long as it fits in the budget). He likes to cook and is very good at it; it's also quite clear that he's neat and organized which probably extends to his personal life and habits as well. He grew up taking care of his mother and his sister so he has the skills.

When he's protecting his colleagues, or he's been wronged in any way, Tatsumi is downright frightening. We definitely see this when he encounters Muraki.

Strengths:
Tatsumi is clever and able to take a clear leadership role. He plans, he gets things done, he's relentless (workaholic!) and he doesn't deal with much nonsense. He's also good at getting what he wants, intimidating both with or without using his powers which would be formidable even in a weakened state like Luceti. He's physically strong, but not more than the average sized 29-year old man.

Tatsumi has some pretty strong abilities (some of the strongest in the series, actually), including all of the abilities of a shinigami (fast healing, etc) along with his ability to manipulate shadows. He can use the shadows to do just about anything. For this game, because his abilities will be reduced, he won’t heal as fast and it will take a lot more effort to use his shadow manipulation powers.

Weaknesses:

While he's collected and calm even under a lot of pressure, it's easy to push his buttons. He's loyal, he'll risk a lot for others and is very self-sacrificing, to the point that he can become a liability, especially on a case. It's also a little too easy for those who know to hit him where it hurts, leaving him with guilt that is sometimes overwhelming. It also takes a lot of effort for him to get close to other people, and he tends to put up a shield and come across as uncaring and even cold. He can also be overly critical, even mean when he loses his temper.

The Shinigami have mostly human bodies; while they heal at a faster rate than humans do, if they are attacked they bleed, their bones break, they can even be killed if their bodies are destroyed. Tatsumi doesn't have more or less strength and stamina than a normal 29 year old man who spends a lot of time working at a desk job; he only has a bit more guts. Although he has his own powerful abilities, he would probably find a real challenge in somebody else who has mastered powerful magic or strength of their own. Even though it isn't elaborated on in the series, his powers most likely take a good deal of serious focus and control.

ahhh I didn't get a notif ;-;

Character

Name: Relius Clover
Fandom: BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown, presumed to be over 100+
Time Period: After Hazama's demise, Relius' Story Mode
Wing Color: Golden with a fuchsia gradient that flares out towards the ends of his feathers.
History: [ link ]
Personality: Known to be both a brilliant scientist as well as a heartless fiend, Relius Clover is a complex man who possesses no sympathy for others. He is cold and calculating, a bastard who would easily experiment his own in the pursuit of science. Relius cares very little about the world around him and seems to care even less about the family he once cherished. His cruelty truly seems to know no bounds once the the story regarding the Nox Nyctores Nirvana creation unveils. What father would willingly turn his own daughter into a cold unfeeling machine? Relius' heartless actions certainly would leave many questioning if the man even possesses a beating heart to begin with, but many others would rather question his sanity instead. Relius is a madman, a complete lunatic gifted with sin.

He seems to take joy in the suffering of others and seem utterly incapable of showing compassion even towards his own son, Carl. He is a monster, someone who's clearly“evil”. However, to simply deem Relius as some sort of evil amoral monster would be a tad unfair. He is so much more than just that. Relius is a man gifted in both the ways of magic and science, a genius with the vast knowledge of the entire universe at his fingertips. His true power doesn't lie within his many destructive creations but rather within his boundless intellect. There's literally nothing Relius cannot do or will not do in the pursuit of glory.

While the truth of his brutal nature is mostly known to all who know of him, Relius doesn't exactly come across as your stereotypical madman. He acts and dresses that of a nobleman, always poised and sophisticated. Given his somewhat fanciful attire and debonair grace, no one would easily suspect him to be the demon that he really is. He could be likened to a wolf in sheep's clothing but definitely not in the same extent as his mock partner/ally, Hazama. Relius doesn't hide his true intentions or feckless disregard for life from anyone, yet he doesn't go out of his way to share his true nature with everyone. He is as tricky as they come, a sly old fox in every sense of the phrase. Relius is both cunning and charming, sophisticated yet wild. He's two contradictions meshed together to form one very unique individual.

While Relius' greatest strength comes from his vast intellect and unrivaled ambition, these strengths can also be his weaknesses. Relius allows his ambition to hinder him from seeing the error in his ways, and his intellect seems to act as a catalyst for all the evil he has done. No one is certain why such an esteemed scientist would turn his own wife and daughter into his personal guinea pigs, but Relius seems to lack morals. His lack of empathy for others is definitely more of a weakness than a strength. He honestly doesn't seem capable of relating with others which might explain his lack of compassion. While no one knows if Relius has always been this way, one could certainly speculate that somewhere down the line that Relius lost a piece of his humanity. Whether it was at the jaws of the Black Beast or caused by previous traumatic event, Relius certainly seems to be possessed by negativity.

Character

Name: Guy Cecil/Gailardia Galan Gardios
Fandom: Tales of the Abyss
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Time Period: Tower of Rem, during Luke's hyperresonance.
Wing Color: Pale yellow, fading into goldenrod-yellow tips.
History: Overall storyline summary and personal character history.

Personality: Guy is nothing short of complicated. Kind, charismatic, and all too cryptic in his character.

On the surface, Guy is a very optimistic, laid-back, and friendly person. His main personality – the outer shell that comprises the major elements of who Guy is – is a man who looks out for the people around him. He takes the time to ask questions and learn about those that interact with them, saying the right words at the right time to help people feel better when they need it, and joking around to keep the mood light. He keeps himself open to hearing others' opinions without necessarily interjecting his own, leaving himself easy to talk to and generally cheerful during conversation of any sort. He's rather perceptive of those around him, picking up on emotional states and body language and remaining as considerate and gentle as he can in his circumstances. Though he isn't one to root around in other's privacy unless he has a very good reason, Guy isn't afraid to say what's on his mind if he finds a problem that he believes needs to be addressed. He does so with as much tact as he can, even if the questions he has to ask are particularly touchy or difficult.

He is often rather charming to women despite himself, throwing out honest compliments or saying the right words in moments of delicacy. It's something he remains rather oblivious to, even as women flock around him from time to time. It's an unnerving habit for him, since, although he enjoys women, he cannot stand being around them due to severe gynophobia that he obtained in his childhood. Despite this, though, he still remains insanely chivalrous. Even with his noble upbringings, Guy has a servant's heart and will go out of his way to assist another, even when it is not required of him. On most occasions, he will follow requests without complaint, even if he has slight personal objections. This is mostly out of habit from working under the Fabre household as a caretaker for Luke; he has been known to deny requests when they upset him enough or if the task would upset someone else in the party, but simple tasks will hardly receive any uproar from him.

Two of Guy's bigger strengths are his good-humored nature and his sense of loyalty. He attempts to stay optimistic whenever possible, joking around when he can, laughing and brushing things off when they aren't all that important. He strives to keep people in a good mood and on the same page, even at the sake of his own ego. He isn't a person to bring up his own problems, and would rather shrug it off, mask it, or dodge the conversations entirely for the sake of the other person. Pokes and prods at his character aren't often taken too seriously, and he finds himself playing peacemaker from time to time because of this trait. He always attempts to think the best of people, even if circumstances turn out for the worse. Even if he has suspicions or bitterness towards another person, he will still attempt to grab at insight behind their true intentions before making any final judgment. It takes effort and patience, but if someone earns his good faith and trust, he sticks by them unwaveringly.

Despite his more positive traits, Guy does have a lot he is hiding away and working through on a personal level. He is slowly working through the resentment and anger behind a lifetime focused on revenge towards a single individual – mainly Duke Fabre and his family, starting with Luke as the one to be killed first in an attempt to make the Duke suffer as Guy had suffered. Despite developing a bond with the boy he had vowed to slaughter, as well as revealing his true intentions openly to Luke and the rest of the party, Guy still struggles with years of anger, and has yet to come to terms with his past. His inability to open up to his friends and colleagues is a hindrance to this, and with years of emotional walls being built up, it is not something he feels comfortable doing any time soon.

Strengths:

Physical: Most of his artes and skills are sword-based and personal-status-boosters. Guy's specialty is fighting in the Sigmund-style of swordsmanship, relying on his agility and the speed of his attacks as his main strength – he fights with quick, repeated combos rather than stronger single blows.

Mental: Guy is witty, intelligent (although not obscenely so), and rather focused on the importance of detail, often asked to be the speaker of the group in situations where great amounts of information and exposition are key. He's very savvy with technology and engineering, particularly the principles and machines in Auldrant's fontechnology, and can get into almost obsessive episodes when he gets the chance to tinker. Damn, he loves that fontech.

Emotional: Guy has an impressive control over his emotions; one could almost say he does so to a fault. He's extremely patient, very accepting, and rarely loses his temper. The times he openly shows anger or raises his voice in game can be counted on one hand – in normal situations, he stays level-headed, and prefers to step back and think before acting or reacting. He rarely takes things too seriously, brushing things off and keeping everything in good humor as much as he's able.

Weaknesses:

Although he has skills with a sword, Guy has never been trained as a professional fighter, and therefore doesn't have the physical limits of someone with more field experience. Although he can maintain an advantage with his agility, he still doesn't have the power or snap that a soldier might possess, and could easily be taken out if it were simply a comparison of brute strength.

His gynophobia is the most prominent issue, mentally. Because of trauma related with his older sister's death, he's unable to approach, touch, or generally be around women without freaking out. Although he has finally remembered the cause of his phobia and has been slowly working at how he handles himself around women, he still has many trigger issues and struggles with his reactions.

Outside of his gynophobia, Guy has a pretty deep issue with prejudice. He holds on to his own personal biases with an almost obsessive stubbornness, even if he doesn't say anything outright for the sake of the conversation. He doesn't have many, but those he does have he clings to relentlessly, rarely letting anyone talk him out of his views.

Emotionally, the man isn't very healthy, and has constructed a lot of walls that he does not want people to cross. Although he's relatively friendly and doesn't necessarily keep every little thing to himself, Guy does have a problem with being honest and direct about his feelings, both to others and to himself. He's fine with bringing out his own ideas and speaking up when something bothers him, but rarely to the point of argument or burdening others. He constantly wears emotional masks out of habit, uses humor or flippancy to deflect otherwise-touchy situations, and will often be found pulling white lies unless he is particularly passionate about a situation. It's not uncommon for him to agree to participating in a situation while having personal discomfort about it. Going hand in hand with this, Guy tends to lean towards passive-aggressive tendencies, even in his joking, making him manipulative or cruel under extreme circumstances and flippantly rude in others.

Even though he keeps himself under control, Guy does have his breaking point. His coping methods for extreme stress or grief are very poor, and anger management is not something he has a good grasp on – he lets feelings stay tucked away and bottle up until the point of bursting, often resulting in him lashing out in anger and giving in to moments of irrational thinking when he finds himself in personally intense situations – the strongest instance, for example, being his confrontation with Luke right before the events of Tower of Rem. In normal instances, Guy would shove Luke's ideas off as foolish, or try to get him to talk about something else. The dire stakes of the situation, however, as well as how suddenly the idea of Luke's death was pushed upon everyone, forces Guy's temper out as he tries to convince Luke to value his own life, even stating for a moment that Luke's life is more important than removing the miasma that threatens to kill the rest of the world. It's a strong contrast to his normal methods of processing, but it shows that, for all his hiding and flippancy, Guy is not as jaded or strong as he lets on.

He also has significant issues with holding grudges. Guy has had some severe mental and emotional scarring due to the death of his family and destruction of his homeland, enough to change him from a rather emotional crybaby of a child to the calm, contained, and often apathetic man that travels with the party. It takes him nearly fifteen years to verbally admit to an obsession for revenge, and although he is working through putting his past behind him, he still struggles with resentment over everything that has happened to him, his family, and his homeland.

Character

Name: Mieu
Fandom: Tales of the Abyss
Gender: Male
Age: Mieu is a young cheagle, probably no more than a year or two old (plus the duration of their journey)
Time Period: Pre-Epilogue
Wing Color: Cream, with green tips!
History: Here!
Personality:
Mieu, at his core, is a very simple creature. He likes it when things are happy and when he’s with his friends. He doesn’t like it when people are fighting, people are getting hurt, or there’s lots of danger. He likes tasty food and doesn’t like it when monsters try to eat him. As a young Cheagle, he still has a lot of growing to do, but he’s learned a lot about life on his travels as well. That is Mieu in a nutshell; a simple nice guy with some growing up to do.

So, about being a Cheagle. Mieu is a monster, technically. He’s only gifted the ability to speak via the Sorceror’s Ring he wears around his body. He can talk to monsters, even if he finds most of them kind of scary. He’s from a very simplistic place, though. He has a lot of respect for the Cheagle Elder, and he lived a very simple life up until the time the game started. His community was very loving, even though Mieu was the one responsible for so many deaths in the community due to a fire he caused, and even as he travels apart from it, he holds out heart that he will return one day! He doesn’t really seem to mind when, though. It can be assumed that he spent most of his time prior to the game starting doing what animals do best. Chasing butterflies, sleeping in the sun, eating, and sleeping. It was the life, but now he’s in everyone else’s!

There are a lot of things that Mieu brings to anyone’s experience, though! Mieu is upbeat and positive, and he can always find something to be cheerful about or distract himself with. He loves meeting new people, too. He latches on quickly to other members of the party and finds himself fitting in the group very well, even if everybody is so tall that they tower over him. He’s curious and he asks a lot of questions when he doesn’t understand something, whether it’s about love or how someone is feeling. He just wants people to be okay, especially those that he’s close to.

Mieu, being so involved in everyone’s lives after being exiled from the Cheagle Woods, has formed a number of strong relationships in his life. Obviously, his strongest is with Master! Luke Fon Fabre is his Master, and Mieu loves him a lot. Even though Mieu gets thrown around, punched, insulted, and just very abused for part of the game, Mieu never stops wanting to be by his side. This is partially because Luke gave Mieu the name of “Thing,” something Mieu himself is very proud of, but also because he really respects him. While other party members come and go, Mieu is always with Luke. When every party member leaves, for example, Mieu is the only one who stays by his bedside and waits for him to wake up from his strange coma (Tear does remain behind, but does not wait next to his bed as Mieu does). This is repeated several times throughout the game; if Luke is alone, Mieu is walking along behind him making comments or being told to shut up. They even form a special bond of sorts...at certain points in the game, Luke uses Mieu to fire...well, fire point-blank into enemy’s faces.

He also has a very strong relationship with Tear Grants, who finds him cute, and Fon Master Ion, who is one of the reasons he started the journey. Since all three of them (Tear, Ion, Luke) were at the start of the quest, he’s very close to all of them. Tear especially stands up for him when he is being hurt or discouraged, so he is very much drawn to her as a friend. Luke abuses him, Tear scolds Luke, and Mieu is happy that Tear is thinking of him and usually assures her that it is okay. Ion, on the other hand, is just someone Mieu has a lot of respect for, and he thinks of him as a friend. Ion understands the relationships between Cheagles and Yulia and as a result is very kind to the Cheagle, like Tear, so Mieu is particularly drawn to him as well. At one point in the game, Mieu learns that Luke is going to die because his fonons are splitting apart...and he tells Tear immediately. This is a proof of how strong his relationship with Tear is; while he doesn’t want to tell secrets about Master, he will turn to Tear if something is so wrong that it can’t be fixed or if Luke is in danger. He trusts her.

That isn’t to say that he doesn’t have a relationship with the rest of the party, though. He’s fond of them all, but merely interacts with them less. He can be scared of Jade at times, since Jade leaves the impression of someone who might eat him more than once, but he gets along with Natalia like he does Tear, just to a lesser extent. Being naive and kind of silly, he’s also prone to fun conversations with Anise, since she can be as optimistic and goofy as he is. When his friends are suffering, he wants to console them just as badly as everyone else does. He’s in pain when Natalia’s parentage is in question, it hurts him to see Anise suffering at the hand of Mohs and over Ion’s death...and, well, Jade is Jade. He’s kind of just...Jade. Mieu respects him, and will run away from him if he thinks Jade is going to dissect him.

It’s true that, at times, Mieu can be a coward. He’s scared of things, like when they land in the miasma and he doesn’t know what’s going on, or when particularly dangerous enemies or events are taking place. This is only natural, given his size. Sometimes, someone has to pick him up and carry him, just to get him out of the way fast enough. But as their journey went on, Mieu became more brave. He showed this first when he was able to talk to the Liger Queen, who was very scary! Though, in Keterberg, the night before they go and fight Van Grants, a scene reveals that Mieu is willing to help out no matter what. He’s told to just stay in the item bag like always, but he wants to really feel like he’s helping. He makes it all the way to the final battle despite the scary enemies, just so he can support his Master for as long as he can.

And this is part of Mieu’s journey, too, learning to help people and showing that he can pitch in just like they can. He’s thrilled to learn he can use Mieu Attack to open new paths for them, and using his Mieu Wing ability to get them to higher places. He has a not-so-secret love of being praised (especially by Master!), but that’s not why he helps out, either. He helps out and tries his hardest just to be helpful, to be useful, and because his friends are his friends and he’s on this journey to learn, just like Master is! He’s learning, too, what he can do in the world, and seeing and experiencing things like deserts and oceans.

Even with all of this optimism, love for his friends, and willingness to work and play hard, Mieu has another side to him. As aforementioned, Mieu is an exile for his tribe. A fire he accidentally caused damaged a large part of a Liger’s homeland, so they moved into their woods. Without a food source, they ate several of the Cheagles, and Mieu was the cause of it all. As a result, when Ion, Luke, Tear and Jade came to the Cheagle Woods, Mieu was exiled and became their guide, able to speak the monster’s and human’s language. That was the start of his journey. It’s revealed, though, there are times that he relates to his Master’s own accidental deaths (he destroyed a city, Akzeriuth). He feels guilt over the deaths he inadvertently caused, and like Luke, it will never go away. So just as he’s growing along with all of the characters, he has his own burden to bear, and it’s another reason he works so hard at everything.

Despite all of these things, though, Mieu has another very special thing working against him. Yes, he tries hard. Yes, he has his own burden, and he loves everything. He’s also very much not the brightest person around. It’s mostly because of his age. He doesn’t understand a lot of things; he once relates love to apple gels. While there are all of these country feuds going on in the game, Mieu often pops up in skits to say that he doesn’t really understand or that it sounds really complicated. It can be both a gift and a curse, though; his simple view on life and willingness to fit into every situation makes him more endearing than annoying...most of the time.

That’s who Mieu is. He’s a simple, hard-working little Cheagle who loves his friends. He has the humblest of beginnings, and he has plenty of learning to do. He’ll do anything for Master, but he’ll never leave his side, even if he tells him to. Like most characters in Luceti, he has a past to deal with, but he has friends to overcome it with. He’s brutally honest and doesn’t understand a lot of things...but he’s not bad to have around, honest! Here, let him prove it to you. Mieu...Wiiiiiiings!

Character

Name: Aang
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Gender: Male
Age: Around 14 (Chronologically 114)
Time Period: After "The Promise: Part One"
Wing Color: Yellow center surrounded by orange
History: Avatar Wikia
Personality: (Please consider here things such as habits, likes and dislikes, thought patterns, experiences and so on. This section should be fairly detailed!)

Aang is a compassionate, free-spirited young boy who generally loves fun and adventure. He treats most people in the same casual manner, except for elders and mentors whom he tries to address respectfully. Otherwise he fails at manners. Most of his favorite activities involve riding various types of animals. He is fairly impulsive and often likes to do whatever comes to mind. Aang does know when to get serious, except for some cases where the stress has overwhelmed him to the point where he has tried to run away from them or put off the decision as long as possible. As an air nomad, Aang is somewhat of a free spirit and was raised to respect all forms of life, so he is a strict vegetarian and will explore all alternatives to violence in solving problems. His Airbender upbringing, however, clashes with his responsibility as the Avatar, which requires that he put the world before all else and not being hesitant to take lives in order to preserve peace. Aang has adamantly adhered to his refusal to take another life in honor of his spiritual upbringing and the fact that he was just a child, so that is the one part of being the Avatar that he could never come to terms with.

As a child, Aang was initially reluctant to accept his duties as the Avatar, as the associated responsibilities threatened all of the fun of his idyllic existence as a normal 12 year old air nomad. His initial attempt at rebellion resulted in him waking up a century later to find all of his people were dead, so he slowly came to accept his fate as the Avatar. Aang has somewhat of a survivor's guilt from what has happened to the air tribe and has not fully processed the loss. He copes primarily by living in the moment, as an extension of his optimistic nature. He is optimistic to the point of naivete, although his experiences in the war have chipped away at his innocence to give him some more jaded world views. He will sometimes play up his childishness to prevent himself from facing uncomfortable certainties, such as his suggestion of "gluebending" as an alternative to the idea of killing the Fire Lord. He has a very goofy and immature sense of humor which is often shared with Sokka.

Friendship is an important part of Aang's nature. As an air nomad and the Avatar, he has freely befriended people from different nations, both in the past and the modern era. He fondly remembers friends from the Earth and Fire Nations, and although in the present he has made at least one friend from each nation, he has become uncomfortable around firebenders due to all of the pain they have caused, including their role in the genocide of his people. The friends that Aang does have, he prizes. He was brought up in a non-traditional manner which lacked familial roles. Gyatso was still somewhat of a father figure to him, the closest thing Aang had to siblings were his peers whom he was raised alongside. Friendship is therefore the foremost bond for Aang, and it has taken on new meaning for him in the era which he has awakened in. His friends' moral support and belief in him has helped Aang to live up to his responsibility while lowering his stress. Katara's belief in particular was a very powerful drive for Aang due to the feelings he developed for her over the course of the journey. It helped that his friends were around the same age as Aang, as it allowed him to be himself and have fun instead of having to be the Avatar all the time. It was a bit of a double-edged sword, as they enabled each other's procrastination from time to time (particularly prior to the coming of Sozin's Comet). By alternating between playing around with his friends and making serious plans with them about the war or training alongside them, Aang was developing a balance within himself which Gyatso had similarly tried to nurture in the past. Aang's trust in others did fluctuate and is most easily seen through the evolution of his friendship with Zuko. Even though Zuko was the prince of the nation that killed his people, Aang initially saw a friend in Zuko, a shadow of one childhood friend long gone. Zuko repaid Aang's attempts at friendship with fire, which made him more hardened towards the idea and distrustful of Zuko, even when Zuko tried to join their group much later. Zuko's genuine reformation and the accompanying awkwardness managed to win them over, and Aang's attitude soon became more trusting again.

Aang also has a strong attachment to the remnants of his past life and is still quite familiar with past cultures that have been forgotten. He is very wistful to everything and especially everyone he has lost, so he holds onto all he has left very tightly. Disturbing some surviving element of the Air Nomads is an easy way to quickly upset and anger the Avatar. His bison Appa has been his inseparable companion since he was six, and together they were the only survivors of the old air tribe. Momo also has a special place in Aang's heart due to having lived at the Southern Air Temple and being a sign that not all life at the air temple was wiped out. He treasures both dearly, and their endangerment can push Aang to the edge as easily as that of his human friends. This was particularly evident after Appa was captured, and Aang had to face the possibility that he was gone forever. This caused Aang to become moody towards everyone around him and act with a mix of depression and raw anger. The incident also made him protective of Momo, to the point where he violently attacked a buzzard wasp in retaliation for trying to take it. Aang's zen lifestyle makes it generally very difficult for him to become actually angry. In addition to anger at those who endanger his friends and those who commit atrocities, he has also felt anger towards his self whenever he has failed, especially in the aftermath of his kinda-death at Azula's hands. Aang became angry not only at his own failure as the Avatar and the resulting shame, but also at the idea of hiding his identity and depriving the world of the much-needed hope that came from the Avatar's existence.

Aang also has fear and guilt connected with his untapped power. This is especially true for the Avatar State, where Aang has had no control over his actions in the past. The Avatar State is almost the opposite of Aang's pacifistic nature in that it is destructive and exhibits no emotion besides a vengeful wratch. In one case, he wiped out dozens of Fire Nation soldiers (including the mutton-chopped Admiral Zhao) while in this form. Katara's emotional connection to Aang has pulled him out of the state time and time again, and Aang's guilt towards his actions was also suppressed by Katara reminding him that he had no control over himself. Many of Aang's emotional problems were balanced during his training under Guru Pathik, who taught him how to unlock his chakras by releasing certain associated emotions. The one he had trouble with was forsaking his earthly attachments, which were his feelings for Katara. It was a struggle for Aang, especially since he felt like his attachment to her was what kept him going on his journey. Aang at first chose Katara over the completion of his chakra training, only to give his feelings up later on in order to attempt to save her from Azula and the Dai Li. His only known controlled Avatar State was over almost as soon as it began due to Azula's fatal lightning strike. Aang has not been known to attempt a controlled Avatar State since then. Aang and Katara's relationship has had some complications. Aang saw her as his "forever girl" and his strongest emotional pillar during the most trying months of his life, even if at the same time he was distraught by the idea that she did not feel the same way. He felt anxious and impatient about Katara's indecision from time to time, but he ultimately respected her decision to wait to think over her feelings.

He has become a happier person over the year since the war's end, with the world facing a new era of peace and his feelings for Katara finally being requited with two becoming oogie-inducing "sweeties". With the genocidal dictator out of the picture and the world generally moving towards peace, Aang has been able to enjoy his role as the Avatar and is eager to participate in even the most mundane activities such as helping colonies of people to move, always with a smile on his face. The only threat to this peace, both in the world and in Aang's mind, has come from Zuko, who managed to get Aang to promise to kill him if he ever became Ozai. Aang once more had that moral dilemma to work through, but in a more difficult way due to it being his duty to his friend, and Zuko's troubling behavior threatening to invoke the promise.

David "Gordo" Gordan | Lizzie Mcguire | Reserved | 2

[personal profile] whatevs 2012-03-07 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Gordo is a smart and sarcastic fourteen year old. He’s pretty normal compared to more magical and extraordinary things. He’s not a genius or a world famous anything. He’s just David Zephyr Gordon (but call him Gordo, please), a boy about to go to high school and trying to stay true to what he believes. Gordo is very much into being a non-conformist. It’s this that makes his peers think of him as a little weird, even his two best friends find him a little strange. When his peers were into mocha cappuccinos, he was into zen rock gardens. He hates fads and if there is one, he stays away from it. He doesn’t want to be ‘a part of the herd’, he wants to be himself. Yet he’s so into not being like everybody else that he is more likely to stop doing something he loves because it’s gotten popular. When the school gets into ratpack music and the style, he stops and forces himself to get into model WWII airplane flying. Even though he hates it. He learns his lesson, but he’s still very big into being a non-conformist.

Gordo’s smart, very smart. He’s allowed to skip eighth grade to go to high school. He prides himself on his intelligence and is always passionate about retaining his straight A’s. Everybody sees him as the smartest kid in class and Gordo doesn’t have a problem with that even though he may not appear as cool to other peers. He’s mature and because his parents are both psychologists, he knows how the human mind works. How life’s going to be. He’s rational and has the answers. When Lizzie gets mad at her mom for lying about something she said she’d do, but wouldn’t let Lizzie lie to get out of going to her Nana’s birthday party; Gordo just says “You need to give your mom a break. Being a grown-up isn’t easy either.” He thinks clearly and is pretty level-headed. People are going to think what they want and you can’t let that bother you.

But he’s still only fourteen. He still has his moments where he’s pretty unsure of himself. When the other boys in his class seem to be growing up, Gordo worries about when it’s time to become a man and stresses over having a bar mitzvah. When Gordo asks a girl to the dance and she turns him down because he’s short, he begins worrying about his height. It’s often shocking when Gordo shows cracks because he’s not the type to care about this stuff. Every time he does feel bad, Lizzie and Miranda tend to not know what to do. It’s usually them that worry about these things. Not Gordo. Gordo, though, is also very defensive about his intelligence. When he thinks his science teacher is giving him worse grades on purpose, he sets out to prove the teacher is treating him unfairly because to Gordo? He deserves the higher grades. When Lizzie turns out to be a better tutor to Ethan, Gordo gets angry and implies Lizzie and Miranda aren’t very smart. His intelligence is important to him because he puts a lot into school. It’s something he prides himself on.

Directing is a passion of Gordo’s and what he plans on doing with his life. But it’s also something he is willing to be reckless about. When a director takes an interest in Gordo for his documentary for his realistic view on the world, the director pushes Gordo to treat people rudely in exchange for helping Gordo get into the world of directing. While Gordo feels uncomfortable about it, he still does it until he realizes it’s alienating him from his best friends and puts a stop to it. When he gets a credit card, Gordo first doesn’t plan on using it until he gets an idea for a movie and decides to use his credit card as a budget. He doesn’t realize this was a dumb choice until his card gets rejected because he went overbalance. He snaps back from his bad decisions, but he’s a lot more willing to make them if it comes to his dream.

He’s also the type to not really voice when he feels ignored, which is a lot. He doesn’t stand out and even his own two best friends take him for granted at times. When he speaks about how he’s upset he got a B+ on a project, Lizzie doesn’t pay much attention and cares more about how everybody in their class seems to be dating. All Gordo sarcastically says is “Oh, it wasn’t like I was speaking to you or anything” when she doesn’t say anything. Even with his very apparent crush on Lizzie, he’s pushes her to ask out Ethan. He even helps her. He only gets irritated by the end of eighth grade and wants to desperately impress her at a murder mystery show, getting a little rude and stealing Lizzie’s clues. He wants to finally impress her and everybody. Kate says “He’s probably sick of being a doormat to everybody”. Gordo is very patient and will put up with generally being ignored, but not forever. It does irritate him. He’s just more likely to give you a sarcastic reply than right out admit it hurts him.

Personality:
"You can take the girl out the military, but you can't take the military out of the girl!"

Welch Vineyard sums up Ilia Silvestri the best with this statement, alluding to how much of Ilia's own character has been influenced by her identity as a soldier. She's an exemplary soldier and subordinate: law-abiding, mindful of rules and procedures, respectful of authority and highly disciplined— all of which contribute to her getting to where she is on the Calnus today in Star Ocean: First Departure. It's Ilia who constantly injects a sense of logic and questions any kneejerk actions that others can and may take. Take, for example, how she initially protests against Ronyx's intention to use the Time Gate to obtain the serum, for not only was use of the Time Gate an action liable for a court martial, they'd be engaging with the people of Roak and thus violating the Underdeveloped Planet Preservation Pact.

However, as further proved by how they went into the Time Gate anyway, Ilia can be a softie at times and allow for rules to bent. Within good reason, of course— jumping recklessly into things really isn't her style. In fact, even when Roddick and her were deposited at Kraat and needed to find the rest of the party, her first worry were her clothes and how she could blend in with the locals. No matter how rattled or displaced she may be, she remains steady and unshaken, just like the soldier that she is.

With her background in science (she is Head Science Officer on board the Calnus), it's no wonder that Ilia frowns upon more fantastical stories, preferring, instead, to believe that a scientific explanation exists. It is a belief that she clings to even in Roak where the legend of the Muah people as "gods" is popular and Symbology is rampant; both of which have not had any plausible scientific explanation on Earth prior to events in the game. She is, however, tactful enough to recognise that this may not be a popular opinion to hold in those times and keeps her mouth shut about the matter— at least, when dealing with the natives of that particular timeline.

This does not mean that she's willing to give up her opinions without a fight, however. She can and will argue her her case passionately (see: How she rants about the issue of the Muah people as gods to Ronyx) if she feels strongly against something, but she knows when to shut up and listen as well. Her scientific background also makes her highly observant and she's able to pick up tiny details such as how the fabric of Welch's clothing doesn't look like anything that can be made from material/technology on Earth or Roak.

With all being said about her "hard as a rock" (Ronyx's own words) soldier mannerisms, Ilia is nonetheless a very casual person, and engages others easily in conversation. She does most of the talking the first time she and Ronyx make contact with the Roak locals and succeeds in calming them down and making them listen to reason. However, in terms of outright diplomacy, Ronyx does better than her in engaging authority; Ilia has it easier speaking to the locals and the grassroots. Her sense of humour may help in this; she has a teasing side and can and will needle others for a joke though she is rarely malicious. She's calm and mature both in speech and mannerism, although this can slip if she's personally insulted (e.g. when Welch calls her old). She has quite a complex about her age, you see.

As a friend, Ilia comes across as a woman who's fairly reasonable and sensitive about the feelings of others. She's not a busybody and prefers to let people handle their own issues although she's always willing to provide a helping hand and honest opinions if need be. Ilia has a pretty high sense of self-esteem in most aspects (e.g. she actually prides herself on her sense of fashion), but she falls short in evaluating herself in the subject of love. She says it herself:

"Charms...? Oh, ewww! What are you talking about, MILLIE! Haha, my own charms!!!"

She is by no means unattractive, mind you, but she's self-deprecating to a fault when it comes to this. However, Ilia is also extremely transparent when it comes to the issue of relationships— when Welch teases her about Ronyx, whatever calm, mature front that she may have perfected simply falls apart and she ends up denying and blushing, not unlike a schoolgirl in love.

Strengths:
Taking her age and experience at the Earth Federation academy (it can be assumed that she did attend training there before becoming a military officer) into account, Ilia is actually very fit. She primarily uses hand-to-hand combat techniques when engaging in battles and prefers to use skills that utilise her fists (e.g. Avenging Fist, Palm of Destruction). Her constant training puts her at an advantage against normal non-combatants and she can probably take a few hits before she goes down.

Skills-wise, Ilia is the Calnus' Head Science Officer at the start of the game, indicating that she is quite intellectual. She's a fast thinker and can be a smooth talker when need be, as seen by how smoothly she lies her way out of answering a question about her (lack of) tail in-game. Putting people at ease comes easy enough for her; it is Ilia who speaks up to calm down Ronyx, Millie and Dorne when she and Ronyx appears on top Mt Metorx at the beginning of the game, after all. Her scientific background also makes her more observant; she is the first to mention that the fabric on Welch's clothing looks like nothing that Earth (in the future) nor Roak can create.

The nature of her work also helps shape her as someone who's honest, dependable and relaxed. Even when she throws off the timing of entering the Time Gate, she goes straight into damage control mode. She doesn't believe in harping too much over past mistakes...except those that she makes for romantic relationships, although that's a different issue altogether.
Weaknesses:
As skilled as Ilia may be in self-defense, she is nevertheless still human and limited by the extent of both human strength and stamina. She obviously isn't anywhere near the pinnacle of human strength, but she's definitely able to take more hits than say, Generic Villager 1. However, compared to the likes of Superman, she doesn't stand a chance.

Military training aside, though, Ilia isn't very much of a leader. Most of her screentime in the game has her following the rest of the party dutifully with no protests, and she gladly cedes any dealing with authority to both Roddick and Ronyx. This isn't to say that she has no leadership skills whatsoever (otherwise she would not be Head Science Officer), rather that she isn't the type to jump at the opportunity for leadership if she feels that there are other more fitting people to fill the spot.

She also has a childish streak that's actually rather easy to rouse— all it takes is for her age (also related: her looks due to her age) or her drinking to be brought into question. When these two things are challenged, Ilia will almost always never back down; take for example how Welch insults her for looking like a hag and she ends up in a contest to see how many guys they can pick up. She's not above petty childish arguing even if she's aware that it doesn't do her any favours.

Willow Rosenberg | Buffy the Vampire Slayer | Reserved

[personal profile] mynnymac 2012-03-07 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Willow is the character who changes possibly more than anyone else in the series. Her personality is in almost constant progression from season to season, and her experiences with Buffy and the other Scoobies have made her the woman she is today. Beginning the series as a shy, nerdy girl who questions her place in the Scooby Gang, Willow becomes not only a mature young woman, but an immensely powerful witch. And in spite of all that, the core of who she is remains the same: a light-hearted and compassionate person who cares for her friends practically more than herself, and is always striving to better herself. She is also a woman who struggles with her own sense of identity: Is she still the nerd who dressed like a child and was such an easy target in high school? Is the assertive and confident witch she’s become only a cover, a costume? Ultimately, her personality is interwoven in her usage of magic and her relationships.

Early on, Willow is timid and shy around others except those closest to her, and is considered by many, including herself, to be more or less unremarkable. She is a bit socially awkward, and has a tendency to ramble when nervous, especially if she realizes she just said something inappropriate to the situation and just goes with it anyway. And while she does possess a light sarcastic and suggestive sense of humor (though not to the degree of, say, Xander), she’ll often end up being the last person to get risqué jokes, song lyrics, etc. anyway. She is nonetheless happy to be of help to Buffy, offering her computer hacking, and later magical, skills to help fight the good fight, and shows kindness and loyalty to her friends.

Willow’s interest in witchcraft is, at least initially, not religious—it is simply a tool, an outlet for her inquisitiveness, and practically the same as hacking. And as is, perhaps, appropriate for someone with her intellect, she is ambitious with it: her first major spell is performing the Ritual of Restoration to return Angelus’ soul, late in season two. She shows a determination in performing this spell that someone who didn’t already know her well wouldn’t expect: She attempts it not once, but twice. And the second time (having been interrupted by vamps the first time), she is still in the hospital.

Willow doesn’t truly come into her own until meeting fellow witch Tara. After the two fall in love, they bring out the best in each other, and Willow gradually becomes more mature and assertive. However, it is when she’s with Tara that Willow begins using her magic for personal reasons rather than to help her friends: after Glory (temporarily) causes Tara to go insane, Willow lies to Buffy and goes off alone seeking revenge against the hell goddess. She is also unwilling to admit to misusing magic around her friends…proceeding to misuse it further by erasing Tara’s memory after they have a fight on the topic. She doesn’t want to control people, per se, but the situation: she wants her relationships to be happy and free of confrontation.

While magic represents much of the positive aspect of Willow’s life, it also continually hangs over her as a threat, and while it was once a source of great pride for her, it now also contributes to her insecurities. The truth is, saying Willow’s self-esteem is not in a good place would be an understatement, and the expectations others have placed on her makes her feel more pressured than they might guess. From early on she considers herself too much of a pushover compared to her friends, in spite of her contributions to the Scoobies. This isn’t helped when she finds out that she ripped Buffy from heaven after resurrecting her (instead of saving her from a hell dimension as they previously thought). What self-respect she does have is reinforced for Willow in Tara’s presence...though she also becomes more unstable whenever their relationship is strained. And after Tara’s abrupt death, Willow’s quiet, kind-hearted demeanor dissipates, and she snaps. Once she absorbs the texts of all the black arts books in the Magic Box, her appearance changes drastically and she becomes the aggressive “Dark Willow.” In this state she uses any means necessary to get revenge against Warren and his accomplices—threatening her friends’ lives without a second thought, even taking pleasure in the prospect of fighting and killing. It is then that she affirms her feelings about herself to Buffy—as nothing but an addict who was only worth anything when she was with Tara. After killing Warren, attempting to kill her best friend and very nearly destroying the world, it is only her other best friend, Xander, who is finally able to reach her and bring her back in touch with her humanity.

Her time immediately before arriving in Luceti has been spent in rehabilitation with Giles in England, and reintegration into life in Sunnydale. Having accepted that she is irrevocably connected to a massive power, she is still wary of using magic too much, fearing she’ll lose control and return to her darker self. She deeply regrets her actions after Tara’s death (from which she still hasn't quite moved on) and feels she deserved a harsher punishment than she received; when she meets Anya again after returning, she wants Anya to rip into her. However, she’s also aware of yet another “dark power rising in Sunnydale,” and hasn’t lost her desire to be there for Buffy when the fight comes to them, no matter how scared she may be.

Character

Name: Guide (known as 'Todd' to the Atlantis Expedition)
Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Gender: Male
Age: At least 10,000 years old.
Time Period: Post-Season 5
Wing Color: Pale gray-ish white
History: Stargate Wikia

Personality:

Note: Due to the fact Atlantis is a cancelled series, I will be lifting information from the Stargate Atlantis: Legacy novels for aspects of Guide's history and personality (including his 'Wraith name' of Guide). The novels themselves are of dubious canon status to the series, but are based on the original plans for the cancelled Season Six.

Guide is unique among the Wraith for simply being reasonable. By and large, Wraith can be cruel and brutal. They take pleasure in feeding off humans and show no signs of compassion or sympathy for their victims. To them, human are nothing more than a food source. Guide is different. It is unknown where this character trait came from, but he spent some time as a prisoner of the Genii. It was there he met John Shepherd of the Atlantis Expedition and the two of them escaped, not as friends, but as temporary allies. Yet despite that temporary alliance, he saw Atlantis as a useful ally when faced with a mutual goal, usually against a shared enemy. Although the humans were always wary of him, he would usually place himself at their mercy, within their own city, surrounded by armed guards.

Among humans he has actually built a rapport among them, to the extent he was usually trusted to interact around civilians, although usually only if there was someone to watch out for him. Although treated with suspicion at all time, Guide usually presented an amicable personality, kindly and considerate. He wasn't above a few jokes or sarcasm as well. One notable display of his 'wraith humor' being that he offered to shake hands on a bargain (which no human would want to do, since Wraith feed through the palms of their hands.) When insulted or when treated as being suspicious, he often will feign being hurt in an exaggerated and almost affectionate manner. Although he has no problem with feeding on humans, he also has no problem interacting with them as equals.

Not only that, but he demonstrates a great sense of honor that is not common among the Wraith or at least, is not something that is demonstrated to humans. When he makes a bargain, he will absolutely keep to it. However, he does have a penchant of forgetting to include 'small details' that might cause his allies to back out of a plan. These tiny complications greatly annoys his Earth allies, but he does them out of necessity, knowing that human morality is different from wraith morality and that certain measures must be taken for their mutual gain. However, he expects this trust to be absolutely returned to him. He does not take treachery lightly and when he is crossed, his comeuppance can be severe. Perceived treachery on the part of the humans was enough for him to break the tenuous alliance between his forces and those of Earth's.

The wraith as a species function as a collective and for the common good of their hive. As a result, in battle, Wraith are rarely shown to surrender peacefully. A favored tactic in battle is kamikaze, when conventional methods don't work. Although Guide is not quite so reckless, this sense of being part of a collective is reflected in his ambitions. Although he actively seeks power and control, his primary concern is the welfare of his own race. He is visibly upset when Teyla, disguised as a Queen, orders two Hives into battle with one another. Not merely because his own life is in jeopardy, but because she's using the opportunity to have the wraith kill one another. Likewise, he often acts in the best interest of his kind and their future, being willing to try a gene therapy that eliminates the Wraith's need to feed. Although he ponders at what purpose the Wraith would have if they did not feed, he also recognizes that his kind would benefit if they did not have to fight one another for access to 'feeding grounds'.

Despite his edges and the fact that his actions would make him evil by human standards, Guide stands out as being proof that his species is not inherently evil. He demonstrates an appreciation of the beauty of nature and the starry sky after his imprisonment. He genuinely cares for the lives of those uder his care. He will also honor his bargains, even at his own expense. After escaping imprisonment with John, he used the 'Gift of Life' to restore the life he had previously taken from him. It was an unnecessary gesture, as Guide did not need John to escape, but it reinforced his very strong sense of loyalty.

Although his loyalties will always be to himself and his own kind, he has developed a certain level of respect and even attachment to the humans he's met. It's possible this is merely a side effect of his long imprisonment (both with the Genii and later Atlantis), but he recognizes them for their abilities. He even has what might also be considered a friendship with John, though it is largely antagonistic from John's side. He recognizes them for his usefulness and has been careful not to reveal their location to other Wraith. In the post-season novels, it's revealed that even if his own life was in danger, he wouldn't kill John to save his own. This fact is something that has him concerned

In the novels, one important aspect to Guide's personality is that he has remained attached to his original Queen, to whom he was a close consort to. In Wraith society, this is generally the highest position a male can achieve. She was largely responsible for fostering his affinity for the sciences, even though it was not originally his role to do so. Though she is dead, he has never held true allegiance to any queen since then, even though Wraith in general seek to be ruled by one. As a result, he follows his own ambitions and allies with queens as it suits his needs. His large alliance currently exists under the pretense of having a queen that was actually an impostor set up by Guide's own machinations. He is very much a man who is in charge. Even when a prisoner, he has a way of 'owning' a room.

History: Copy-pasting it. Because do NOT GO TO THE WIKI, the colors will blind you.

Doyle was a sniper in the US Army, and was good friends with helicopter pilot Flynn. Doyle and Flynn were assigned to join the US-led NATO force of 7000 soldiers under Brigadier General Stone's command as they went to Britain to repopulate London.

28 Weeks Later

Doyle was positioned on a rooftop in District 1 along with the rest of the Delta Force snipers squad as part of the Isle's defense. He would scope out citizens that arrive on a train heading into District 1 and spy on them during the night.

Doyle is the only soldier to notice Tammy and Andy escape the safe zone and shortly after the two children are retrieved, a second outbreak of the Rage Virus occurs. As the Infection spreads out of control, Code Red is initialized and the snipers are given orders to kill all the citizens, infected or not. Doyle is forced to kill one his comrades when he is attacked by the Infected, and abandons his post shortly thereafter. He takes shelter inside a warehouse where he meets Major Scarlett Ross, Andy, Tammy, Sam, and two more civilians. While escaping, Doyle receives a message from Flynn, explaining that the military is preparing to firebomb (napalm) all of District 1, and they have four minutes to escape.

Doyle forgets to look for any sign of a sniper and the group is hit by friendly fire; two people are killed and Scarlett sustains a leg wound. Doyle orders Sam to run around the corner in a zig-zag pattern so he can get a shot at the sniper scoping them out. When Sam refuses, Andy runs out into the open to the other side, giving Doyle the chance to kill the sniper.

The remaining survivors escape District 1 via tunnelway, and head toward the rendezvous point, Regent's Park. While at the park, Doyle explains to Scarlett why he left his post, to which Scarlet responds she left hers because the cure to Rage Virus may lie within one of the children, making their lives more valuable than theirs. Doyle receives another transmission from Flynn, informing him that the Infected have escaped District 1 and are headed in their direction. They have less than 60 seconds to escape. Doyle leads the group across the field where he spots the approaching Infected. Flynn arrives and Doyle attempts to explain the importance of Tammy and Andy when a panicked Sam grabs one of the helicopter skids, causing Flynn to veer away from Doyle and the others.

Flynn attacks the Infected head-on with the rotor blades of his chopper, shaking Sam off his chopper's skid in the process and giving Doyle, Andy, Scarlett and Tammy a chance to escape the park. Doyle pauses to take out several Infected with his M4 before following after the others. Flynn tells Doyle to head for Wembley Stadium, the new rendezvous point and get rid of the civilians. By this point, Doyle has abandoned the Code Red objective and focuses on getting the others to safety. When the group is confronted by more Infected and a cloud of poisonous gas, they take shelter inside an abandoned van. The Infected are killed instantly by the gas, however the car fails to start. Doyle spots soldiers with NBC suits and flamethrowers in the rear-view mirror and instructs Scarlett not to take her foot off the clutch until he says so. In the process of starting the car by pushing it forward, Doyle is killed by the flamethrowers.

Personality: Doyle is a typical guy you'd find in the middle of a Beer Cooler Circle, making jokes, being dumb and good-hearted. Or something like that. A stand-up sort of guy to a degree, though he's not above making hard choices in his line of work; he was one to shake his head and do what he was told for a considerable period of time. That was the world they lived in: do your work, get your paycheck, life goes on. Sure, he'd be haunted by some of his work in the army, especially in his particular force, but that's not new to anyone who's been in the service long.

Despite that, he attempts to stay far from world or war-weary, keeping light and remaining surprisingly optimistic, even in the middle of an all-out struggle to keep humanity on the map. He and Flynn joke around quite a bit even with the seriousness of their jobs and the setting itself (though he'd probably not say a 'your mom' joke to just anyone; you're safe, Luceti). A street-smarts type, he has an arsenal of taught and self-learned skills under his sleeve, but it never overshadows the fact that he tries his damndest to keep on the moral side of things. He appreciates humor and dishes it out often, sometimes under the mask of complete snark or a maybe-too-sharp elbow prod. He's a lounger, but he knows when to cut that shit and take up arms and responsibility. His stubbornness is one of his big defining qualities, as he's even willing to disobey orders and deny those orders up until the very end, if he feels it's right.

He knows that things are beyond corruption: it's survival mode, and the government--or what's left of it, anyway--is willing to knock down whoever they can to keep things moving. And he gets it. But it sure as hell doesn't mean he's willing to follow. In that respect he can be a token sort of guy you'd expect in his position in a movie, wanting to essentially follow his heart over his head. He's resourceful and careful and he knows how to talk to people, especially in a serious situation. And although he's methodical and an overall good soldier--and despite being able to kill a person with ease--he's also selfless at times when it comes to the safety of civilian lives, especially if they hit a chord with him.

He strives well under pressure because if he didn't? Well, he wouldn't be a very good candidate for the Delta Forces, would he? Granted he still slips up from time to time, because he's a normal human who has a brain hiccup on occasion. Only in certain circumstances, human error has a price. The prime example of goofing under extreme stress is when he's trying to get the others out of the district before they napalm it: he leads them not realizing that a sniper ahead still kept his post, and two of the civilians are killed in the process. He beats himself up for these sorts of blunders, as his job's always been the one thing he's excelled at above all else.

He has a habit of peeping, too. Not that he always means to, but considering his job consists of watching people he keeps a sharp eye out and attempts to read people. He's spent a great portion of his life and job trying to understand movements and people's ticks and what-have-you, and in moments where silence is crucial he reads said quietness well.

And yeah, jokester-type guy. Don't fall asleep around him, because he'll probably draw things on your face. Gotta' be done, friend.

... Did we mention the sight of blood makes him queasy? Yeah, he's a sniper who gets queasy when he looks at blood. In the middle of a viral outbreak that involves gross amounts of blood. Kind of weird, huh.

Rhyme Bito | The World Ends With You | Reserved 2/3

[personal profile] forgetfulchime 2012-03-08 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:Rhyme is exactly as she seems when you first meet her: Sweet, kind and all together a great person to be around. Always wearing a smile on her face, she is a very optimistic person and gets along with just about anyone, short, tall, weird and normal.

“Haste makes waste”

This is practically a motto that Rhyme lives by. Unlike Beat, who likes to dive into things headfirst, Rhyme likes to take the time to think and assess the situation before running into it. Even if time is running out on something, she likes to know her facts are correct rather than make a mistake. Much like the time she tried to convince Beat they had to get the golden bat and not rush into something else. Because of this, this makes her seem like the more collected one, thought-wise, in the group.

A lot of how Rhyme turned out to be has to do with her brother, Beat. When they were alive, she loved him and looked up to him as a role model despite how their parents saw him. Because of this, she acts a bit more boyish than a normal girl would and even speaks and dresses in a more masculine way, hence why Beat and Rhyme wear almost identical clothing. Even after death, she remains loyal and loving to him, protecting the bell charm around her neck, an item she holds dear to her.

Although Rhyme has no memories of Beat as her brother, but her partner, she treats him just as she would if she knew who he was to her. In fact, she acts more like a mother than a sister to him a lot of the time, telling him things like “patience is a virtue” and “don’t run so fast or you’ll trip”. The reason she looks out for him so much is not only because he’s her partner, but because since the start of the Game, he’s always been there for her. Even when she was down about having nothing to live for in life, he encouraged her to keep moving forward and find her own dreams.

“Why come back to life if I’ve got nothing to live for?”

Upon entering the Game, Rhyme’s entry fee was all of her dreams, her ambitions and because of this, the spark in her life is gone. This itself tends to be a tender spot all on its own. When she listens to other people talk about their goals and dreams for their own futures, it can instantly bring a frown to her face. She knows she doesn’t have something to look forward to like they do and she isn’t afraid to admit that she doesn’t. But by all means, this doesn’t mean she won’t give up on finding her own dreams. Though at first she believed that getting a second chance at life would be pointless, after seeing how determined Beat was to reach his own goal to become a professional skateboarder, things changed. She uses peoples’, mainly Beat’s, upbeat attitudes about reaching their own dreams to inspire herself to find her own dream. So in a sense, she uses them like a crutch.

Strengths: Physical: Rhyme is strong enough, physically, to hold herself up in a battle against the noise.

Mental/Emotional: Rhyme is a cool and collected person. Living up to the saying ‘patience is a virtue’, she likes to take her time and not only enjoy the little things, but actually take the time to stop and think about the situation at hand. Out of the whole group, she is the more organized one thought wise.

Weaknesses: Physical: Although Rhyme is capable of holding up her own weight when fighting alongside Beat against noise, you have to remember that Rhyme is the smallest and youngest out of the others in the group. Fighting alone and actually inflicting damage on someone with only her bare hands, Rhyme has little chances of winning. She isn’t an athlete and she isn’t exactly muscular.

Mental/Emotional: As her entry fee to the Game, Rhyme has lost all passion for life; she no longer has any dreams or ambitions. Because of this, she relies on Beat’s and other peoples’ upbeat attitudes and determination to fulfill their own dreams to try and inspire herself to keep moving forward and one day find her own dreams.

Beat tends to be quite a big weakness when it comes down to it. Although she doesn’t remember him as her brother, she still feels the need to look out for him and care for him, especially since he was that one ‘stranger’ who has helped her out a lot. That being said, she will willingly throw herself in harm’s way to protect him and keep him safe without any hesitation.
