Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Willow Rosenberg | Buffy the Vampire Slayer | Reserved

[personal profile] mynnymac 2012-03-07 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Strengths:
Physical: Willow can’t do much in a physical fight, that being more Buffy’s department. However, she has been seen magically infusing her body with super strength as Dark Willow, in order to fight on par with Buffy. Otherwise, she’s fairly weak.

Mental: Extremely intelligent, Willow is initially the academic and computer wiz at Sunnydale High. In earlier seasons she uses her hacking skills to help the Scoobies while researching for their cases. After the death of Jenny Calendar, she takes over teaching her classes for the rest of the year, and she is one of two students (the other being Oz) who is selected for prospective employment by a high-end software company during Career Week. And though she ultimately decides to enroll at UC Sunnydale to stay with Buffy, she is also accepted at several prestigious universities.

In order to be of more help to the Scoobies, Willow begins dabbling in witchcraft and discovers she is quite skilled at it. Magic is her main strength that she continues to excel at throughout the series. When she goes after Glory in season five, she is able to actually harm the goddess before being defeated, something not even Buffy had been able to accomplish. And when Buffy goes catatonic after Glory kidnaps Dawn, Willow enters her best friend’s mind to bring her back to reality, which Giles remarks is extremely advanced. She would go on to resurrect Buffy herself in a harrowing ritual the following year. As Dark Willow she is seen healing Buffy’s gunshot wound, draining the magical energy from others, and flaying Warren Mears alive. And in the series finale, Willow activates Potential Slayers the world over, creating an army of Slayers and disrupting the traditional line of succession for good.

Emotional: Self-esteem issues aside, Willow is fairly emotionally stable. She can be very determined and has a definite stubborn streak, as seen when she decides to reattempt the Ritual of Restoration for Angel in spite of the fact that she is still very weak. And though her self-esteem is lacking, she makes up for it through her concern for her friends. For instance when Faith comes out of her coma in season four; Willow knows she wouldn't be of much use against the other Slayer, but she's obviously ready to fight her anyway to help Buffy. Of course, if she feels her friends deserve a good talking-to, she also won’t hesitate to give it, as seen in season three when Buffy returns to Sunnydale after leaving the Scoobies with no word.

Weaknesses:
Physical: At the end of the day, Willow is pretty much useless in a fight that doesn’t involve magic. She’s fit, but before she gets seriously into witchcraft, she helps Xander and Oz patrol in Buffy’s absence and, well, the results are pretty funny.

Mental: Willow does have an addictive personality, as seen in season six with her magic addiction—Buffy remarks on this, saying after Willow kills Warren that she now has a “taste for blood” and would definitely kill again. And at times she’ll “accidentally” cast spells simply by willing something into being: first after Oz leaves her, and she casts a spell that has the unintended effect of making everything she says come true. And even after she returns to Sunnydale in the beginning of season seven (i.e. when she should be more aware than ever the effect her powers can have), she can be careless with her abilities: she creates a situation where she can’t see or hear the Scoobies and they can’t see her in “Same Time, Same Place.” She accomplishes this simply by thinking while on the plane to America that she isn’t ready to face her friends yet—no ritual or incantation required.

Emotional: Willow suffers from a bit of self-loathing, seeing herself, at first, as the timid nerd who lets people walk all over her and is always the one who needs saving; and later, a junkie worth absolutely nothing without her lover, who only causes larger problems with her magic (ex. inadvertently taking Buffy out of heaven). She also shows difficulty with confrontations: As she grows in power and Tara begins showing concern that she might be abusing magic, she lies and covers up to make it seem like she doesn’t have a problem. In addition, when her relationship with Tara is in its earlier stages, Willow keeps Tara away from the Scoobies, not introducing her to Buffy and co. until much later. She explains this is because she wants to have something that is simply “hers,” so that she doesn’t have to share everything with them.

Samples (ALL samples must be set in Luceti-verse.)

First Person: Q&A, please!

Third Person:
She had been there for almost two weeks now.

It wasn’t as bad as she had thought at first, but she still couldn’t help but feel like she was floundering here. At the end of the day, there just wasn’t that much to do. She was trying to get to know people as best she could, and there were friends here, but…she needed a purpose. Guess I’ve been fighting evil too long, huh. She smiled as she quietly made her way out of the village. Of course, those evil scientist-types…the Malnosso…they pretty much qualified as evil in her book, but what could she do about them? At the moment, nothing, beyond learning more.

So the past two weeks had been spent getting acclimated to her new surroundings (the wings were a definite adjustment), meeting new people (she did have to admit the idea of bringing people in from so many different worlds was fascinating), and learning the ins and outs of life in Luceti. One of the things she learned, she had been completely unsurprised about: there were spirits here. Once she’d been told about that, she realized she could feel them.

She hadn’t performed any magic since she arrived; no real need had presented itself, and she had the suspicion that these mad scientists were maybe hoping she would do just that. Why else kidnap her, after all? So she had refrained. A sharp pang went through her heart as she thought that maybe Tara would have been proud of her. Right. Proud of you for plain ol’ stubbornness? Give me a break, me.

Finally, she found a place she liked, far from the buzz of the village; just a small clearing in the forest. It wasn’t where she had personally arrived, but she wondered if others hadn’t woken up with wings in this very spot. She sat down with her legs crossed, and closed her eyes. Deep breaths, Willow. Forget everything. She wasn’t going to work any magic, not now. She simply wanted to see if these spirits could be reached, to see what, if anything, they could teach her. Everything is connected.

Some time later, she was seen walking back into the village, a small smile on her face. Someone asked if she was okay; she probably looked a little dazed. She looked the man in the eyes and nodded, thanking him. For the first time, she felt she would be just fine.

Re: Q&A

1. What is most important to you? [Easy.] My friends—Buffy and Xander, and the other Scoobies—they’re more important to me than anything. I mean, this may sound cliché but, I really just want to help them any way I can. Especially now that I’ve…let them down, recently. And on that note, well, it’s really important that I not lose control again. I...really don't want to think about what I might do.

2. What would you call your greatest strength? Strength? No, no, I—I’m not a, a strong person. That isn’t me. I might have said my magic, once, but I’ve more than proven I can barely handle that. No, I’m not strong. Weak is pretty much the definition of Willow.

3. Name three of your most favorite memories. Hmm, only three? I have so many good ones! Okay, well, in no particular order, um…oh! The first time I saw Xander’s Snoopy Dance while watching Charlie Brown…God, how old were we?...well, anyway, it became a tradition.

Next, let’s see. When I was just starting to get into magic, I learned how to conceal zits using a glamour. The first time I did it successfully, I felt like such a rebel, like I’m so bad, I’m cheating and getting away with it. Dumb, right? But I was so proud of myself.

And third…playing with Miss Kitty Fantastico, with Tara. It's a pretty simple memory, but…well, I guess it just reminds me of when things between us were simpler.

4. What is your greatest regret? …Last year, I…I don’t even know where to begin. I hurt Tara, I lied to her, and all my friends. I was abusing magicks, and Tara left me…it was bad, really bad. And just when I thought things were better, when they were returning to normal, Tara was…was killed and…I did some really awful things. I flayed Warren, and I tried to kill Giles, and Dawn, and Buffy. God, if Xander hadn’t come up to that bluff when he did…I wouldn’t be here. Nothing would.

But you know, when I look back and think about it I just wish….I wish I could have saved her. We could have gone downstairs earlier, I could have…done something so that stupid bullet wouldn’t have…[Her voice breaks.] I’m sorry. Can’t cry during the interview, Willow. Okay. I’m fine. I…I’m fine.

5. How much do you value power? What is the limit of what you'd do to possess it? I tried that “power” thing once, not too long ago. Veiny and homicidal me, remember? And I went all the way with it, too: I tried to destroy the world. I’ve already been in that place where people value power too much; it’s a scary place.

But even now that I’m, well, me again, I still have this power, and I'm trying to learn as much about it as I can. It’s not going away any time soon, it’s a part of me. But a “limit” is very much what I have in mind, yeah. Not killing my friends would be the obvious one, but really, I just want to help them. The personal gain thing really doesn’t turn out well; take it from someone who knows.
