Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

David "Gordo" Gordan | Lizzie Mcguire | Reserved | 2

[personal profile] whatevs 2012-03-07 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Gordo is a smart and sarcastic fourteen year old. He’s pretty normal compared to more magical and extraordinary things. He’s not a genius or a world famous anything. He’s just David Zephyr Gordon (but call him Gordo, please), a boy about to go to high school and trying to stay true to what he believes. Gordo is very much into being a non-conformist. It’s this that makes his peers think of him as a little weird, even his two best friends find him a little strange. When his peers were into mocha cappuccinos, he was into zen rock gardens. He hates fads and if there is one, he stays away from it. He doesn’t want to be ‘a part of the herd’, he wants to be himself. Yet he’s so into not being like everybody else that he is more likely to stop doing something he loves because it’s gotten popular. When the school gets into ratpack music and the style, he stops and forces himself to get into model WWII airplane flying. Even though he hates it. He learns his lesson, but he’s still very big into being a non-conformist.

Gordo’s smart, very smart. He’s allowed to skip eighth grade to go to high school. He prides himself on his intelligence and is always passionate about retaining his straight A’s. Everybody sees him as the smartest kid in class and Gordo doesn’t have a problem with that even though he may not appear as cool to other peers. He’s mature and because his parents are both psychologists, he knows how the human mind works. How life’s going to be. He’s rational and has the answers. When Lizzie gets mad at her mom for lying about something she said she’d do, but wouldn’t let Lizzie lie to get out of going to her Nana’s birthday party; Gordo just says “You need to give your mom a break. Being a grown-up isn’t easy either.” He thinks clearly and is pretty level-headed. People are going to think what they want and you can’t let that bother you.

But he’s still only fourteen. He still has his moments where he’s pretty unsure of himself. When the other boys in his class seem to be growing up, Gordo worries about when it’s time to become a man and stresses over having a bar mitzvah. When Gordo asks a girl to the dance and she turns him down because he’s short, he begins worrying about his height. It’s often shocking when Gordo shows cracks because he’s not the type to care about this stuff. Every time he does feel bad, Lizzie and Miranda tend to not know what to do. It’s usually them that worry about these things. Not Gordo. Gordo, though, is also very defensive about his intelligence. When he thinks his science teacher is giving him worse grades on purpose, he sets out to prove the teacher is treating him unfairly because to Gordo? He deserves the higher grades. When Lizzie turns out to be a better tutor to Ethan, Gordo gets angry and implies Lizzie and Miranda aren’t very smart. His intelligence is important to him because he puts a lot into school. It’s something he prides himself on.

Directing is a passion of Gordo’s and what he plans on doing with his life. But it’s also something he is willing to be reckless about. When a director takes an interest in Gordo for his documentary for his realistic view on the world, the director pushes Gordo to treat people rudely in exchange for helping Gordo get into the world of directing. While Gordo feels uncomfortable about it, he still does it until he realizes it’s alienating him from his best friends and puts a stop to it. When he gets a credit card, Gordo first doesn’t plan on using it until he gets an idea for a movie and decides to use his credit card as a budget. He doesn’t realize this was a dumb choice until his card gets rejected because he went overbalance. He snaps back from his bad decisions, but he’s a lot more willing to make them if it comes to his dream.

He’s also the type to not really voice when he feels ignored, which is a lot. He doesn’t stand out and even his own two best friends take him for granted at times. When he speaks about how he’s upset he got a B+ on a project, Lizzie doesn’t pay much attention and cares more about how everybody in their class seems to be dating. All Gordo sarcastically says is “Oh, it wasn’t like I was speaking to you or anything” when she doesn’t say anything. Even with his very apparent crush on Lizzie, he’s pushes her to ask out Ethan. He even helps her. He only gets irritated by the end of eighth grade and wants to desperately impress her at a murder mystery show, getting a little rude and stealing Lizzie’s clues. He wants to finally impress her and everybody. Kate says “He’s probably sick of being a doormat to everybody”. Gordo is very patient and will put up with generally being ignored, but not forever. It does irritate him. He’s just more likely to give you a sarcastic reply than right out admit it hurts him.

Strengths:
Physical: Gordo does not have too many strengths physically. He’s short and not very athletic. The only thing he has going for him is that he’s healthy.

Mental/Emotional: Gordo is good at not caring what people think and being the rational one in the group. He’s kind of the rock to his two best friends, who are a lot more emotional than he is. He’s the one to dish out the advice and help you usually, thanks to his parents being psychologists. Also he’s very intelligent, actually being allowed to skip a grade. He’s not a genius, but he can keep up with adults and their intellect pretty well.

Weaknesses:

Physical: Like I said, Gordo is short and not athletic. He’s never chosen for teams and if it came to a fight? Gordo would be the first to lose. He’s just not a fighter and isn’t meant to be one.

Mental/Emotional: He’s fourteen and does have his insecurities. If he feels his intelligence is being challenged, he becomes defensive and a lot more irritable. He’s kind of a doormat and doesn’t say when things bother him until it comes out in a mess. Usually his friends catch onto him pretty quickly before he gets this bad, but when they don’t he can behave rudely. He’s patient, but he puts up with a lot way too often. Usually when he does have a bout of insecurity, it comes out of nowhere. Nobody knows when something will bother him and when something won’t.

First Person:

[voice]

Whoa, this is a camera. Inside a book? Awesome. Pretty cool I have to say. Oh. Right. I’m recording right now, aren’t I? Heh.

[He coughs, showing he’s a little uncomfortable about talking.]

So, everybody. How’s it going? Gordo here. Well, David, but yeah. Call me Gordo. I’ve figured out this isn’t a dream and there’s a lot of interesting things here. I guess the wings are pretty cool. Kind of girly if you ask me, but eh, I can deal. I’m just wondering…

Everything really is free? Like I can just go get my own apartment and I’m set? No rent? No bills? I know the guide says it and some people told me that! But I don’t know. It just seems weird not having to worry about money. It’s great and everything! I love free stuff, but yeah. I just want to be double sure before I go with that.

Third Person:
It was time to get an apartment, Gordo figured. He’d always been excited for when he could go out on his own and have his own place. He just hadn’t thought it would happen when he was this young still. He was about to go to high school, not college. Wasn’t having your own place something that happened after high school? Having his own space and somewhere that he could call his own kind of was a cool idea. And yet at the same time…

He’d always been excited about having his own place because it meant he could share it. He’d always imagined having his own place and having his friends over. He couldn’t do that. Lizzie wasn’t here and neither was Miranda. He was glad they were safe and he didn’t want them here. They’d be scared and he couldn’t imagine either of them handling it well. It was good they were back home, but it was still kind of lonely. He missed his parents too. They were his parents and like any other teenager, he wanted away from them a lot. Just not like this. He definitely missed them and he sighed, looking around.

“Geesh, I’m fourteen. I shouldn’t be worrying about my own place. Or being kidnapped with mad scientists wanting to do experiments on me,” he muttered quietly to himself, rolling his eyes. “It’s like I’m in a sci-fi movie.”

It sounded like something Tudgeman would like. Maybe if Tudgeman was here he’d have a better understanding about this situation. Wasn’t there a ton of stories like this? Tudgeman probably would have a much better idea about how to go about this and maybe find a way back home.

“Wow, you know you’re bad off when you have to rely on Tudgeman. Better go find a place before I start wishing Ethan or Kate was here.”
