Applications
PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!
Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!
PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!
Strengths and Weaknesses
Pyrokinesis: Liz' greatest strength is definitely her pyrokinesis. She's able to create and manipulate fire at will, can control how big the fires are, as well as where they originate. As far as the mundane goes, Liz often uses her powers to light cigarettes, to light up dark spaces, and so on. On a much larger scale, Liz' pyrokinesis has reduced buildings to smouldering rubble, has frequently been used to burn hoards of monsters alive, and has destroyed two of the Ogdru Hem. Liz has been able to use her abilities to send messages in the past, too. In Hollow Earth, Liz sought out Abe by projecting a flaming image of herself in his room, asking for him to come find her. However, Liz was only shown doing this once and it was a rather extreme situation (her soul was being used to power a giant machine at the time), and she hasn't done it again since. Still, it's probably something worth mentioning.
Physical: While Liz normally relies on her pyrokinesis in a fight, she's also a skilled hand-to-hand combatant. Liz has been occasionally been shown working out in her spare time, and in situations where she has been unable to use her fire, her combat skills have proven that she is still quite capable on her own. This was showcased a few times in the Monsters storyline, where she broke a man's jaw with one kick in one instance, and managed to overpower a couple with a cleaver and a shotgun in another, without using any weapons (or powers) of her own. Also, while it is connected with her pyrokinesis, it makes more sense to mention it here: Liz is fireproof, as she has never actually been burned after using her fire.
Mental: Thanks spending two years in an Agarthan temple, it has become much easier for Liz to organize her thoughts when she needs to focus, or remain calm and collected in extreme situations. When using her fire on a much larger scale, it requires a great deal of Liz' attention and concentration. To help deal with this, Liz has often resorted to repeating a personal mantra - The fire is not my enemy. It is a part of me. It is mine. - in order to help concentrate or to focus her power even more. She's used this mantra in several situations, the most memorable one being when she used it to help her focus on burning Sadu-Hem.
Weaknesses:
Physical: While Liz is a strong fighter, both with and without her pyrokinesis, she can still be overpowered. If caught by surprise, it isn't terribly difficult to apprehend her if one acts before she can make use of her fire. As far as physical strength goes, while she's certainly strong, she doesn't have super strength. If Liz were to go up against a mob of people (or monsters), someone with enhanced strength or durability without the use of her fire, or someone that was also fireproof, she wouldn't have much of a chance.
Mental: An unfortunate issue with Liz is that doesn't always think things through. When out in the field, Liz' main method of dealing with problems falls under the category of 'burn first, ask questions later.' She knows that fire isn't always the only solution to a problem, but it's usually the easiest one, and she knows that making things go 'boom' is what she's good for. However, this is rarely the best route to take. It may take care of opponents quickly, but Liz burning things without thinking has had big consequences before - like when several frog-monster tadpoles managed to fall into a lower level during one of the fires she started without much thought or consideration.
Emotional: Liz' pyrokinesis is also strongly tied to her emotions, and in her earlier days in the B.P.R.D., she often struggled to keep control of her powers and had a habit of losing control over them in stressful situations. While Liz has gained more control since then, it is still clear that Liz has a much more difficult time keeping control of her abilities when under stress. It usually takes a good deal of focus for Liz to control her pyrokinesis, but it doesn't do much good if her emotions are getting in the way of her concentration. This is a big concern in the canon point she’s being taken from, as Liz has been losing sleep thanks to Memnan Saa plaguing her dreams with visions of the apocalypse. It has been difficult for Liz to tell if what he's showing her is real or not, which has left her feeling miserable, lonely, exhausted, and she has also grown increasingly paranoid of her surroundings and the people around her, too. It’s gotten to the point where Liz isn’t sent out to go on missions anymore, out of fear that she might lose control again.
Beyond that, Liz' temper can change quite quickly at times, and not always for the better. When she gets upset, Liz usually closes herself off from others and becomes very withdrawn until she finds a way to pick herself back up, or forces her way through things. However, there are also times when Liz' attitude can go from sad and quiet to bristling and angry with very little provocation. Neither one is really better than the other, though. Liz struggles to connect with people when depressed (though she is starting to open up to Panya, it's still difficult), and she's much harder to reason with when angry and tends to lash out at people. She isn't always the most approachable person at the best of times, and this makes things even worse.
