Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. You may link to threads on the
trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered. HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

But beneath that, there is much more to Anko than meets the eye. While she may act the fool, she's also very intelligent, something most might be surprised to realize if they bothered to look past her outward actions and appearence. Orochimaru wouldn't have played mentor to anyone who was anything less, and giving that he taught her so much, forbidden techniques included, it only gives further credence to how under-appreciated this aspect of her is. She was his pupil as much as she was his guinea pig, and she absorbed all that he would teach her. He trusted her with the finer points of his research after they left Konoha, and was constantly preparing her to take on more and more as he molded her into a perfected student, and later, the first test subject to be successfully branded with the Curse of Heaven Seal.
Another thing to point out would be Anko's sense of loyalty. As Orochimaru's questionable activities were found out and he was forced to abandon his facilities within Konoha, Anko left with her teacher. She shared his exile for a number of years before his betrayal, continuing to study under his tutelage, trusting in him completely. It was only after he admittedly lost interest in her after being the only one out of ten original test subjects to survive his branding of the Curse of Heaven Seal, and the knowledge that she did not share in his desire for endless power, did Anko take her leave and return to Konoha. There she has remained, and served her village faithfully. She never forgot the kindness of the Third Hokage in accepting her back, despite Orochimaru's taint that would always tarnish her, and has since given her all in repaying that kindness in her unfailing devotion to her village.
Strengths:
Physical: Anko comes with all of the above-average combat skills that a Jounin possesses; accelerated speed, hand-to-hand combat training, weapon training (most notably for Anko, kunai and senbon) and quick reflexes.
Mental/Emotional: Anko's intelligence is one of her biggest strengths by far, even if it isn't flaunted as much as brute strength, or ignored all together for the immediate satisfaction of killing something dead, or at the very least, causing a significant amount of pain. She also seems to relish any sort of fear she can instill in the unwitting victim, such as she did with Naruto prior to the second stage of the Chuunin exam.
Special Abilities: Note: For sake of ease, abilities are listed in an English translation rather than their romaji counterparts.
- Hidden Shadow Snake Hands/Many Hidden Shadow Snake Hands: Pretty much what the name is. The ability to shoot a snake (or snakes) out from her sleeves (position of her choice. Orochimaru was known to expel them from his mouth as well), to attack someone from a distance.
- Summoning Jutsu (Snakes): Anko was the first of Orochimaru's subordinates to sign a blood contract with snakes that would allow her to summon and use them as she might need them, mostly in the aforementioned technique.
- Twin Snakes Mutual Death Jutsu: A forbidden jutsu, the most notable of them that she had learned from her mentor, and one she had nearly performed in an attempt to put a stop to Orochimaru back during the first Chuunin exam. It's a murder-suicide technique that will kill not only a target, but also the caster once performed. Once the seal has been made with the caster and the target's combined hands, snakes will slither out and strike both people, injecting them with a deadly venom to bring about an instant demise.
- Various Fire Release Jutsu: A staple with most Konoha ninja, the ability to concentrate super-heated chakra within the stomach and releasing it through their lungs and mouths. Anko in particular is shown using the Fire Release: Dragon Fire Jutsu; shooting off a large fireball that hurtles along lines of cord or anything similar towards a specific target.
Weaknesses:
Physical: By far, the biggest weakness for Anko is the Curse of Heaven Seal. While it is inactive for the most part, Orochimaru could activate the seal to subdue her (as seen during the first Chuunin exam), or even being in close range of her sensei can cause it to wake, bringing about tangible pain. It remains to be seen if Kabuto with Orochimaru's chakra and DNA has a similar effect, considering his current ploy of leeching away Orochimaru's chakra that still lingers within her seal.
Mental/Emotional: Even as her perseverance is a strength, it is still a sensitive subject, and one that can be manipulated. The stigma of being a subordinate under probably the greatest known traitor of Konoha is one that will follow Anko until the end of her days. It's a heavy burden, regardless of the typically cheerful facade that can be attributed to her. It's not something that she or her fellow shinobi can put aside, considering that nearly every techinque she knows and even right down to some of her mannerisms can be traced back to her sensei. No matter the smile on her face, it's hard to put aside the unease she can sense from others, or if there is any question of her loyalty from fellow shinobi.

Birds.
Scrunching up her nose and trying to squeeze her eyes shut against the bright sunlight, Anko groaned when faced with the fact that the cheerful birdsong wasn't so easily ignored. Irritation grew as she was forced to reckon with the waking world, the delightful haze of sleep falling away all too quickly.
But even as reality came pressing down upon her, the memories came fast and quick.
War.
Tracking.
Kabuto.
And then nothing.
Bolting up from her comfortable spot, Anko whirled about, looking this way and that, and feeling a sickening drop of her stomach as there was nothing familiar to suggest where she was. Senses primed and alert, she patted herself down, more than a little confused with the lack of any injuries, but far more so with the unfamiliar weight to her back. Twisting and turning, she tried to make out the anomaly, her eyes widening almost comically at the sight of feathers of all things!
"What the hell?!"
Seeking fingers stopped almost as quickly as they started when a sharp bite of pain came from the tentative tugging.
This...had to be someone's sick idea of a joke, right?
Well, she sure as hell wasn't laughing. And neither would the culprit be once she got her hands on them.
The vivid mental imagery of the unknown's torture and demise soothed her as she returned to the business of trying to figure out just where in the hell she was, and even better yet, how she got there.
So many unanswered questions, with no immediate answers in sight. It was a puzzle to be solved, and solve it she would. Wings and all.
And the silent promise that she made with herself, standing right there in the middle of nowhere, that there was someone who was going to have an up front and personal introduction with the business end of her fist.
Now that was something worth being woken up for.

There ain't nothing like sliding into a steamy hot springs after long mission. Aching good like you only can after something that pushes the limits; something frosty in your hand that could put down a horse and the satisfaction of knowing you did good. That, my friend, is what makes me happy.

3. Are you a brave person? Do you face your fears or run away from them?
Why run away when they'll come back to haunt ya? It's a lesson best learned early, and one to stick to.
Besides. Only real thing to be scared of is death, and everyone's gotta die someday anyway. Best to meet it head on and kick it in the teeth on your way out. Once I had my own hurdles, but ya live, learn, and move on.
4. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
[She's shuffling uncomfortably for a moment...]
Once there was someone, but I learned the hard way it's best not to put any one person up on a pedestal. But it's all good! Where before there was one, instead I've got an entire family in my village. There are ones ya like, some you don't. Ones to go get stupid with, and others that sometimes need a fist to the skull. In the end, we're all one and the same and we all look out for one another! Who needs just one person when you can have many!
5. What goals do you want to accomplish in your life?
I want to serve my Hokage to the very best of my capabilities for as long as I possibly can, and to live life with no regrets. That's the best that anyone can ever hope for.
And maybe...just maybe, I'd like for history to remember me for what I've done, rather than what I came from. If I keep pushing myself and working hard...I can hope.
