Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Orphen | Sorcerous Stabber Orphen

[personal profile] harmonia 2012-05-01 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Strengths: Though he might not look like it, Orphen is an incredibly powerful sorcerer. It’s almost like he has a spell for everything. Besides the typical elemental spells you’d expect him to have, he can create weapons and shields of energy, reflect magic, heal, teleport, unlock doors, and even fix things that are broken. His spellcasting is fast and powerful—most other sorcerers don’t stand a chance against him. Magic isn’t the only thing he was taught at the Tower of Fang, however. We see in flashbacks that he also learned martial arts and how to defend himself. As such, Orphen is strong and very quick on his feet. He can hold his own in a fight even without magic, it just happens to take care of things faster.

Despite his attitude and general appearance, Orphen isn’t really a bad guy. He values his friends and acquaintances, always helping them without a second thought, even if it’s an inconvenience. He never minds going out of his way for a longtime friend, like Stephanie. He is always helping people he doesn’t know, too, and sometimes, even those who are nothing but a pain. (He helps Volcan, for example, when he becomes sick after eating some suspicious mushrooms. Even though he’s a pain, he can’t stand the idea of leaving him to die.) He might not seem like the most reliable guy around, but he’d never leave someone in a bind. …well, not unless he put them there, anyway.

Orphen is stubborn and good luck trying to get him to quit something he’s already started. He is confident in himself, and anyone who thinks otherwise will have themselves being proven wrong by the sorcerer himself. He won’t have anyone tell him what he can or can’t do, and even if he’s told that something is impossible, it won’t discourage him from trying anyway. He’s told plenty of times that there’s nothing he can do about Azalie and that he should just give up on her, but he never does. What he did in the end to save her and Childman was something that he shouldn’t have been able to do, but he still did it, proving that he really is as great a sorcerer as they say.

Weaknesses: Given his habits, it’s not much of a surprise that Orphen tends to be disliked by others. His biggest problem is his mouth. Orphen is someone who always tells it like it is, never one to sugarcoat his words for the sake of stroking someone’s ego, and people usually hate him for it. He’s also incredibly sarcastic. He isn’t a bad person, but his attitude is enough to completely put people off. He’s impatient and doesn’t have much tolerance for playing around—he isn’t even willing to indulge a bunch of little kids in a mining town who want to see his magic.

Orphen doesn’t really look too friendly, either. When the group stops in a tourist town known for their hot springs, everyone in the town seems to avoid them, and Majic and Cleao have a conversation in which they try to understand why that might be. Cleao says Orphen dresses like a homeless person, has a coarse way of speaking that alarms strangers, and a very angry aura; Majic says he has kind of crazy eyes, and that people in the town probably ran away from him because they thought he was “a murderer or a rapist or something.” So not only is Orphen’s attitude bad, but the way he dresses and his general demeanor really don’t scream “super friendly and approachable guy right here.”

While Orphen is a powerful sorcerer, there are definitely restrictions on his magic. For one, his kind of magic is produced by the voice, and can only be used in places where the voice can be heard. On that note, his magic is also restricted by the effects of time. That means that if his voice cannot be heard, his magic will not work. (We see an example of this when he ends up swallowing a whole fish and gets a bone stuck in his mouth. He can’t speak because the bone is lodged in there and it hurts, so as a result, he can’t use his magic.) Similarly, if something moved faster than the speed of sound, his magic would be pretty useless on it as well. (Seen when trying to find ways to stop the lady that couldn’t stop running thanks to a cursed object. She ran so fast that his magic wasn’t enough to keep her in place.) There’s also stamina to take into account—using magic tires him out, so despite how powerful he is, excessive use is out of the question. In that case, even if his voice can be heard, his magic would be weak just because of how tired he is.
