Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Castiel || Supernatural || Reserved || DUN

Strengths:

PHYSICAL
Castiel is a super-powered Mary Sue of a character...when he's at full strength. Right now he's half-Fallen and also locked down in Luceti parameters, so he's not nearly what he could be. He's rocking the super strength thing and instantaneous movement -which is really just him flying- but obviously he can't go anywhere the Malnosso don't want him going. He heals up pretty quickly from really damaging wounds, and really the only way to kill him is with either an angel sword or holy fire, which I'll get into in the weaknesses section. Otherwise he's pretty indestructible, super strong (not like move the Earth strong but punch through a wall strong) and can move places instantaneously. Also he can OCCASIONALLY read minds and pasts and shit, can kind of traverse time (which will be nixed for Luceti because no), can make projections, can make huge burning light bursts and stuff and it's all kind of vague in the show and do a tiny bit of reality altering...kind of. In that he can move people around and stuff and he's kind of hax, but not only is he weak because of the Fall but he's also weak because of Luceti so there's really no reason for him to be using any of this.

MENTAL
Cas might be naive about human social interactions, but he's a super old being who's been around a long, long time. He has a lot of knowledge of a lot of things, he doesn't have any limits on what he can understand -by way of science and mathematics, and he demonstrates this by beginning to launch into an explanation of time travel with "[The limitations] can best be expressed as a series of partial differential equations" so Heaven doesn't work purely on magic. There's some understanding of physics and math as well, there's just never any need to get into it. Cas isn't the verbose type anyway.

EMOTIONAL
Most of Castiel's emotional strengths double as weaknesses, as most emotions are wont to do, but a few highlights are his sense of loyalty, his conviction and his ability to value the concept of free will as much as he does. Most people take it for granted, but Cas has lived a life where it's forbidden and has tasted freedom. He knows the difference between the two now.

Weaknesses:

PHYSICAL
Cas can be hurt by any number of things, especially now that he's weakened, but the two biggest ones that'll snuff him right out are angel swords and holy fire. If someone uses holy oil to make a ring around him and sets it aflame, he'll die if he crosses over the ring or touches the fire. He'll have to wait until someone puts it out or makes a bridge over the fire for him to cross safely. Also, angel swords; that is, every angel has their own personal weapon and it's pretty much the only other thing that can kill an angel. If someone were to disarm him and stab him with his own weapon, he can be seriously wounded and even killed outright. Nasty business.

Likewise, because he'll be adjusting to mortality very, very slowly, it's implied in the show that Cas is much weaker than he usually would be, so if he tries to use his mojo in a way that just isn't compatible with his new limitations -which he apparently likes to do- he'll keel right over and be out for days. It's not pretty.

MENTAL
There aren't a whole lot of mental weaknesses in his noggin, except for that he just doesn't get humanity sometimes. He's very cold, precise logic, which can be intimidating and alienate him from people who feel lots of shit. Someone can try to explain a moral or social dilemma to him and he can do anything from blow it off because it's so insignificant in the big picture to just stare blankly because he's so damn befuddled. It really depends on the issue.

EMOTIONAL
Whoo. Cas's emotional weaknesses.

Emotions were very strongly discouraged in the God squad. Namely that showing them could lead to demotions, reprimands and in more extreme cases, "re-education" which is basically implied torture until said angel understands again to whom he or she is loyal. Cas was re-educated himself, and comes back from being just on the verge of betraying Heaven to help Dean to going right back to his frosty self at the beginning of the season. It's pretty obvious that Castiel is scared of his fellow brothers, but basically gives them the finger anyway and does what he believes is right.

Doesn't make him any more adept at emotions though.

Now that he's Falling, he's so so so much more susceptible to feeling all these things he's never felt before. He's beginning to experience in more intensity everything from anger to fear to happiness, and sometimes he just doesn't know quite what to do with himself. He solves his problem by largely ignoring it or, in one very awkward display shortly after the time from when I'm bringing him, drinking down an entire liquor store in an effort to not feel what he's feeling. Cas doesn't cope well.

He's almost like a baby just figuring out how the world works, in a way, so while he still seems cold and logical on the outside, it's more his front that he puts on as he very gingerly feels out what exactly he's supposed to be doing. A lot of what Cas does is fumble around until he gets it right or gets it wrong or just doesn't get it at all, and it's very confusing and painful and like watching your own struggle through puberty all over again minus all the hormones, thank Christ.

Mostly, Castiel is a naive little mess when it comes to feels.

Samples

First Person:

Q&A PLEASE

Third Person:

It was strange to stand on a planet that Castiel couldn't navigate intuitively. Back on Earth, Castiel didn't even have to be physically present in a location to know what was there, how to get there, what the weather was like. He could simply dig a little deeper, tune in to what Dean would refer to as his 'angel sense' and just know. There was rain in southeast United States. Asia was temperate. Russia was cold. Typhoons were spinning out over the Pacific. Same-old, same-old. When Dean first discovered that ability of Castiel's he had a few fun minutes using him as a glorified weather channel, until Castiel grew bored of Dean's inane questions and left on his ever-progressing search for God, amulet in his fist.

He always went back, though.

Here, there's no angel sense. He felt deaf and blind, and a stab of panic shot right through his gut -Jimmy's gut, an approximation of a gut that didn't exactly exist, whatever. It didn't matter. He just needed to get his bearings the hard way. Hell was the same; look until you see what you're looking for.

Shaking off that vague sense of dread, Castiel walked through the village like he knew exactly where he was going, and in a sense he did. He was going everywhere, until he drew a mental map of what the place was like, and then he'd move on and go elsewhere. Not like he needed to eat or sleep...yet. But he'd never felt so far away from Heaven; he couldn't even hear the whispers of his brothers and sisters, distant but ever present.

He couldn't fly very far either. Something was keeping him contained. A very powerful demon, perhaps, or maybe even Lucifer himself. That would be just his luck, shoved into a bubble by Lucifer to keep him neatly out of the way while he fries Earth with Dean and Sam on it.

Castiel cupped Dean's amulet in his hands, glaring down at it as if it would burn hot if he poured enough ire into his gaze. Predictably, it didn't work, and he pocketed it again as he ducked into a nearby shop that boasted weapons of all varieties. He doubted it actually had all varieties, but mortals did love their hyperbole, and it was worth checking to see if there was anything of use.

1. What’s your opinion on your family, or how you were raised?
Most of my brothers are either confused or corrupt. We have very different opinions of what our Father has intended, for us and for Earth.

2. What is the most successful thing you’ve ever done?
I would say raising Dean from Hell, but that was just another order from Heaven. Rebelling would be my greatest success. It's an act of my own choosing.

3. What do you think of yourself? How do you value your own life?
I'm useful. It's enough for now.

[[ooc: Side note; Cas hasn't really grown enough to start looking at the more selfish aspects of humanity. It's not that he's suicidal or hates himself or anything like that, he just seems to lack survival instincts, I guess is a good way to put it. He sees something that needs to be done, does it, and if it puts his life in danger then whatever, it has to be done anyway.

With that, it doesn't give him a basis to really look for things like enjoyment, anything to make his life meaningful or fulfilling. It's almost as if he sees himself as a tool still, but he's working on it.]]

4. If you had a choice between feeling emotions or feeling nothing, what would you choose?
I think it would be easier if I felt nothing, but that isn't what I want.

5. Describe what the word 'justice' means to you.
The definition seems more subjective than it was before. I'm sure my death would be seen as justice to many of my brothers.

I imagine finding God and putting an end to the Apocalypse would feel like justice.
