Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. You may link to threads on the
trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered. HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

Being the strategist and staff officer of a mercenary company, Soren holds a lot of responsibility for one so young. However, he is a very smart man and uses his mind to the best of its ability. Using cold logic, he creates fantastic strategies for both the mercenary camp and the few armies they have been in, all of them coming out victoriously. He keeps the best interest of the company in mind, the job with the better opportunities and coin are more important than helping people or risking themselves. Even with this mindset, when given a command, he will follow it regardless of what he thinks, and makes strategies to Ike's wishes.
He is not afraid to speak his mind, even when it comes to the noble class and royalty. Though a lot of people frown upon his tongue, Ike finds that it's a great thing, saying that he can trust Soren about what he thinks of the situation without holding people on ceremony. His bluntness has caused him trouble as well as help Ike and the Greil mercenaries, reminding them that they were fighting a war and that anything and everything must be found out.
In the first game, Soren clearly hates the laguz, Ike having to calm him down after he insults and attacks an emissary of the Beast King. It mostly has to do with how he was raised, growing up in Gallia where the beast laguz come from and being shunned by them because of his brand. Soren tells Ike that it was more hurtful than all the abuse he had had from other beorcs, like an iceberg weighing inside of him. He doesn't get too close to beorc/humans either because of this. When he does talk to people, it is normally about strategy and supplies and is very rarely personal. Three years later, however, Soren has improved, and is no longer 'lost in his own little world' as Ranulf had put it. He even manages to speak with the laguz with more regard than he had previously. However, he is still his rude, blunt self. Surprisingly, he becomes one of the highest officers in the army due to Skirmir liking him for his intelligence and strategic abilities.
Soren shows great loyalty to Ike, calling him his one true friend. Having been the first person to treat him with kindness and to save him from starvation, Soren dedicated himself to finding the boy after he had left; even if he didn't remember who he was. When they finally found each other, Soren made sure to help Ike in anyway possible. Be it with explaining something, coming up with a strategy, or helping him hide from a wild Aimee, Soren would do almost anything for him. Even when met with Stefan, a fellow branded who tried to persuade him to join a colony, Soren refused to leave Ike. Even if his aging was already slowing down, he could not leave his best friend.
Although he is rather cold and rude, he somehow manages to also have some sort of humor. When discussing lowering prices 'for the good of the company' with Aimee, he tried to swoon her by calling her a true gem and someone more beautiful than the goddess herself. Another time with the same girl, he joked to Ike that she had called him Ikey-poo, teasing him a bit. Perhaps because of his upbringing, Soren dislikes food, this becoming apparent when Titania wonders if he would stop if he didn't have to eat. He seems to have an odd quirk that allows him to know exactly where he is no matter how often or how little he has been there. This could be due to his dragon blood

Strengths:Physical: Soren isn't much in terms of strength but he has endurance. Going into battles he can easily keep up with the majority of the group through all types of terrain. And since he is in a mercenary company and travels the world, he always goes with them so that means a lot of walking and running in some cases for long periods of time, Soren can handle those pretty well. He's also fast for a mage, being able to cast twice in many battles besides with swordsman who have a naturally higher speed. Most mages that you get can only cast one. What could be considering a strength a well is that he ages very slowly. Having dragon blood in his veins means he will age slower than all beorc, and poissibly even some laguz since his grandfather has been alive since the goddess has been on the earth, which was hundreds of hundreds of years ago.
Mental: Being the best strategist in all of Tellius, and one of the best sages, Soren is very smart for his age. He possesses a lot of magical power even when he was a child, which got an older sage to take him from his caretaker and for him to learn powerful magic for his age. He has one of the highest magic stats of all the mages, and it easily caps so he kicks many enemies down. As mentioned before, he also has this keen ability to remember exactly where he is at any given place,. Ike was surprised that he could tell where they had left off a search in a burnt forest. In Radiant Dawn, Soren showed off more of his strategic skills, being the only one that could help the laguz army that had only relied on strength rather than brain. After claiming many victories he gets the attention of the general and prince of Gallia, Skrimir, and gets in one of the most influential seats of the army. Being Branded, he can also sense other Branded, having sensed Micaiah's ancestry when they fought in a battle. When Soren classes up into a sage or an archsage, he is able to wield staves to heal so as well. He is able to use his magic in more than just his anima tome magic (fire, wind and lighnting).
Emotional: Stoic, is the best way to describe Soren. He does not let emotions affect him when making decisions, even if he himself does not like it. When given an order he will follow it, regardless of his opinions. When Ike told him that they would help Ranulf and the laguz army, Soren agreed to help them even if he did not like them.
Weaknesses:
Physical: Soren is quite weak, being a mage his strength is very low. Giving him a knife instead of a staff when he classes up, only helps deal maybe 1-2 damage to an enemy if he's lucky. He also appears to have a body that is much younger looking than what he is. He stopped aging around four years ago, his laguz blood kicking in making him age very slowly. So he's basically weaker then most people his age.
Mental: Always being too logical and too suspicious of people, Soren's mentality is a little off from most people. He doesn't trust people and regards most in pessimistic way, even when they show good intentions. When Zelgius from begnion showed up with reinforcements, Soren immediately believed that if they allowed them to help in any way other than back up, Begnion would claim Crimea's victory and the tale of the mercenary company would be swept under the rug.
Emotional: Soren's a basic wreck when other emotions come out. Because of his upbringing he doesn't really try to get close to people, fearing that if they knew of his mark and blood they would shun him. So he keeps to himself and doesn't try to be social. He even believed that Ike would leave him when he was trying him to find out what was wrong with him, claiming he had no one else to turn to if Ike didn't like him anymore. Though he was accepted by Ike, he still hasn't told anyone else about being Branded, and the only people who know are others who can sense the Branded. He held much of his emotions in check for so long from his childhood that when he finally tells Ike what had happened to him, he completely breaks down and cries in Ike's arms like a little kid.

This would've been useful when we needed to relay information during the war. Though I doubt they would've remained intact with Skirmir and the other su...laguz, let alone being used.
[He clears its throat quietly]
If anyone is listening to this I require some help. My name is Soren. I...was a resident of the continent of Tellius and was the staff officer of the known Greil Mercenaries. Myself, along with a companion, just traveled the Hatari dessert and, suddenly, I find myself here. Any information as to where I am or what...these wings are, would be very helpful.
[There's a small pause, as if he's wondering if he really should be asking.]
If anyone sees a blue haired swordsman by the name of Ike, please let me know. He's hard to miss.
[There's a click and the journal feed ends]
Soren never thought he would miss Tellius as much as he was now.
Of course, he hadn't minded leaving it behind. He would follow Ike wherever he would go. He didn't care how unfamiliar the terrain would be because there was always the most familiar person beside him enjoying it. But here, there was rarely a familiar thing and he wanted no part in it.
He fixed his hold on his wind tome and headed towards his destination. The magic book was one comfort he could have, having carried one for so long and not having one in a new place was a little unnerving. Even if there didn't seem to be a need for one, he was glad he found it in that item shop after a few days when he got his clothes. The sage did not want to look anymore like a heron laguz just because he had these wings now, white clothes did not have to help.
Wings. The wings were his biggest problem. When he first saw them his thoughts went immediately to his cursed blood and it somehow had...evolved into a more obvious form. His fears were eased slightly when he walked into town and everyone seemed to have a pair. Unless they were all part of the Branded or were new bird laguz, he believed that he was safe for now. Still, the wings made him uncomfortable and he did everything he could to ignore them .
Soren continued his walk to the library, wondering vaguely if he should merely just sleep there. There was no point in having a room where he was. He did not want to learn more about his room mates, without Ike or any necessity to, the sage spent most of his time learning what he could about this place and how to go back home. If he could go back home. He found it ironic actually. He and Ike left their world behind to find what was beyond the Hatari dessert, and Soren was the one who literally went to another world that was different then his own.
He stopped at the library's stairs and looked up. He'll find something today. Something that will get him home to his friend.
