Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Orphen | Sorcerous Stabber Orphen

[personal profile] harmonia 2012-05-01 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Generally regarded as an evil-looking, egomaniacal, badly dressed magician, Orphen is a much better person than he seems. He tends to come off as rude and unfriendly because of how honest he is, and people usually dislike him for it. He is incredibly impatient with little tolerance for silliness and stupidity, and he is not afraid to let someone know when they’re pissing him off (though it usually doesn’t take much to get on his nerves anyway). Just ask either of his traveling companions! Majic comments that even though Orphen can be mean, his powers as a sorcerer are incredible, and he just can’t help but look up to him. Aside from being powerful, he’s also pretty smart. He’s familiar with a lot of his world’s legends and lore, so it’s no wonder that Majic is interested in him even if he’s a jerk. He isn’t opposed to sharing stories and myths (and even showing them off if the opportunity presents itself), assuming that he’s in the right mood, that is.

But Orphen definitely isn’t a bad guy. In the first season, he is driven almost entirely by his desire to save his childhood friend Azalie from her unusual fate, and he never passes up an opportunity to help someone in trouble along the way. Even if he’s just passing through, he’s saved people from bandits, towns from being burnt to the ground, and girls from giant, evil dragons. Although he can be harsh, he isn’t cruel—he doesn’t blame people for things that aren’t their fault, and he’ll always give credit where credit is due. He values his friends and acquaintances deeply, even if he doesn’t always show it, likely because he’s so used to not having many in the first place. In regards to his own feelings, Orphen tends to keep a lot of things to himself, but he is certainly not dishonest. If he doesn’t admit to having something on his mind, the way he acts will probably show it well enough. He’s definitely the kind of guy that closes himself off and broods, though he’s gotten better about it these days.

While Orphen’s magical strength originally made him feel like something of an outcast when he was younger, you’d certainly never guess it now that he’s an adult. He’s not exactly a show-off, but Orphen is incredibly confident in himself and his abilities. (He also thinks he is one handsome devil!!) He never thinks about something being too difficult for him, he just does it. Even when he was told that he could not save both Childman and Azalie, that it would probably be the death of him, he didn’t give up. He just kept fighting anyway, and naturally, succeeded in the end. Although he complains a lot, he never gives up on anything.

He isn’t really the best master, though. Majic’s lessons happen only rarely, and Orphen isn’t the kind of person to give false praise over tiny accomplishments. He tells Majic that setting a piece of coal on fire isn’t real magic, and that he’ll compliment him when he actually does something worthy of praise. Orphen might be a jerk, but he keeps his word, so when his traveling companions really do something to be proud of or something that he can genuinely appreciate? He’ll be honest and tell them just how well they’ve done. He isn’t really encouraging, but he recognizes accomplishments.

Of course, when Orphen isn’t fighting giant evil dragons or vengeful sorcerers, he’s a pretty laidback guy. In fact, “laidback” is probably an understatement—he’s just plain lazy. He’s always telling his apprentice that he’ll teach him magic “later,” and in the manga, Orphen is notorious for his attitude upon waking up in the morning. (So notorious that people refer to him as the “morning terror” or “catastrophe of the dawn.”) He’d much rather sleep in really late than set off from town early in the morning, and if there’s an opportunity for free food, you can bet he’s going to pass up cooking in order to take advantage of that instead. Why do everything when you don’t have to do anything, right? With no goal in mind, he’s content to just sit back and relax—he doesn’t seem to have enough opportunities to do that back home.
