Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Strengths:

Physical: The greatest strength Viral has is exactly the thing that makes him not human. He’s a beastman, of combined feline and shark genetics, with highly acute senses and swift reaction time. His strength is such that he can bend the bars of a jail cell should he so choose, and his agility makes him a graceful and stunning fighter to observe. His teeth are like those of a shark; if one is pulled, another will come up behind it, and the feline nature of his hands and eyes combined with his manic grin when in the midst of battle make him frightening to look upon. Although unstated in canon, the creators of the series have mentioned that he is a beastman of combined feline and shark genetics. He was also the only survivor of a submarine crew, manned entirely by marine-based beastmen, indicating that he is likely a highly skilled swimmer with potentially an increased lung capacity—this can either be answered by his combined genetics or his athletic prowess.

As a combatant in his Gunman and on foot, he has shown favoritism toward bladed weapons and versatile kicks. Although he predominantly wields a cleaver while on foot, it can be argued that he has cross over skill with swords, including the ability to dual wield a pair, based upon the fact that his Enki in all forms tends toward twin blades and observations of Simon and Yoko behaving similar to what is described with their weapons both in and out of a gunman within context of the series.

Of note as well is his immortality. While we don’t know what the extent of his abilities, we do know that he survived the falling of Teppelin unscathed, and that stab wounds that go completely through his hands heal within seconds. Most of what we know has to be speculated upon, but with a healing factor that advanced it can be assumed that gruesome injuries can be recovered from and that poisons will be metabolized. Additionally, this immortality allows him to avoid the one thing he has come to dread—the comatose slumber that all beastmen are destined for due to cellular decay. As such, he doesn’t sleep.

Mental: Viral is a highly intelligent beastman with command experience and notable determination, with the wits to ask the questions that are unexpected for an artificial lifeform. He’s adaptable enough to handle almost any environment and any commander, and has the skills and instincts to survive in the wilderness for as long as needed—comfortably too. Over the years after Teppelin fell, he’s had to know basic mechanical skills to keep his Enkidudu running with minimal support. Though his mechanical skills were nothing special, they were enough.

Emotional: The most notable thing about Viral, aside from his physical prowess, is his loyalty and strength of will. Even after the fall of every single commander he was assigned to, Viral never gave up because of his frustrations. Though skewed, it can never be said that he was less than steadfast and true to his morals, even if they have changed over time as he adapted to new circumstances. The fact that he had the strength to adapt to the new regime, to work alone rather than bow to their wishes and be integrated or imprisoned is itself something that shows his character.

In spite of his love of the fight, and his pride, he has shown multiple times that he is willing to put his wishes aside if there is a greater benefit in his not accomplishing the task himself. During the final battle between General Adiane and Team Dai-Gurren, he willingly stepped down from the fight against his rival and would have done so even if he wasn’t ordered too. Adiane was fighting for revenge over the same General as he, Thymilph, and trusted her to complete his revenge for him.

It could be said that he loved her even, in a bizarre and twisted way. Her death was the only time he physically broke down in the series, and he let her take her frustrations out on him physically while remaining her loyal second in command. He never allowed emotions dominate his decisions, but the event was a turning point for him—he never started to question the reasoning behind their assignments before this, and never once cried before or after this event.

Additionally, he is nothing if not honorable. He doesn’t fight the ill, the old, the young, the wounded, or women that don’t attempt to fight him first. His refusal to slay Simon and a wounded Yoko is his one act of disobedience.
