Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. Personality: Ariel is very much what you'd expect from a teenaged girl. She wants to do what she wants and resents the ones who try to stop her. And then does what she wants anyway.

Now, that doesn't mean that she's spiteful. Really, she's quite kind, which is what one might expect from a Disney Princess. But she has flaws, ones that are found in just about every teenaged girl. She's a bit airheaded, and her attention can drift enough that she'll forget things that are important. This happens a few times in the movie: She forgets a big concert where she was supposed to debut her singing voice, she wanders off during Sebastian's song to her when Flounder tells her he found something, and while she's voiceless, she very nearly falls out of the coach she's riding in to stare at the wheels. It's a little rude, but her attention just gets caught easily, and if it's interesting, she'll abandon what she's doing to do this thing and probably forget the other thing until she's reminded of it.

Part of the reason for this is her sheer curiosity. The movie is basically all about this; she longs to learn of what's outside of her reach. Her curiosity, as a result, can lead her to dangerous things. She's adventurous and rebellious, knowingly disobeying rules to satiate that part of her that wants to know and just… wants. She's prone to making mistakes, and she's prone to hiding them too. When she forgets the concert, she tries to cover it up, though that's mostly to hide the fact that she was near the surface and talking to animals above the ocean. She's fascinated by the human world, one that's considered forbidden and dangerous. But how can something so dangerous create all the wonderful things she's found? She has an entire secret grotto filled to the brim with things people have lost in the ocean: silverware, tools, accessories (even… books and paintings…?), all kept hidden from those who'd judge her. For a while, only Flounder, her fish bff, knew about this. She knew that everyone else would either tease her, lecture her or, worst of all, tell her father. This does eventually happen, and his reaction, to destroy all of her collection, is the one thing that makes her cross the line.

For all her rule breaking, Ariel does know when too far is too far. When told that the sea witch Ursula could help her, she initially turns it down. She's even nervous, dropping her kind and curious nature to tell them to go away. But when she's even more tempted with thoughts of Eric, the prince she longs to be with, she pushes it all aside to take the risk. In a way, half of it is to fulfill her wishes, and half is to spite her dad. It's clear by the expression on her face as she leaves: head up and eyes closed. She's even aggressive with Sebastian, telling him to go tell her father since he's "good at that". Still, it shows that when pushed, she will go to great lengths. She was willing to just try to find Eric and spend time with him until her grotto was destroyed, and that fueled her to go to a dangerous monster for a magic spell. And when Ursula turns her dad into a polyp, she attacks her, even knowing that Ursula's holding the powerful trident. She's brave, even putting others in danger as a result. She brings Flounder to a ship where they're chased by a shark, and she leaps a horse and wagon over a drop off with Eric. She's… kind of unapologetic about these things, but at least she ensures their safety? While running from the shark she made sure that Flounder was ahead of her, even knowing that he's slower.

Just because she's brave and curious doesn't mean that she can't get discouraged. When she feels hopeless, she isn't afraid to cry. She'll likely hide from people though: the four times she does cry in the movie, she holds it in until she's either alone or with her most trusted companions. Usually, all anyone else will see will be a lip wibble before she runs/swims away. And without an idea of what to do next, Ariel can be lost and accept it. When Eric is about to marry the wrong girl, she doesn't try to fight for it, instead she runs to cry and sit there, accepting her loss, until Scuttle tells her that it's all a ploy. And when Triton orders her to stay in the sea, she swims away, knowing she can't fight against him. She's sixteen, she knows it, and also knows that there isn't a lot she can do at that age. She's just a girl, after all.

Those are a lot of negative things to touch upon, so let's move on to the good things. Ariel is kind, though the television show shows this more than other sources of media. Once, there's a merboy who starts hanging out with the wrong crowd, and while she doesn’t judge him, she does attempt and succeed to bring him back to the right side. There's even a creature who is said to be the bringer of bad luck, and she befriends it and protects it. She is friendly, and she'd never say no to someone who wants to be her friend, unless they are just obviously villains. She never trusted Ursula nor was kind to her, not once, even when Ursula gave her a sob story and gave her such a good offer. While Ariel did take the offer, she still was never kind to Ursula, nor her pets. And considering how far she'll go, it's easy to say that she'll do most anything for people she grows to care for.

While she is dissatisfied with life in the ocean, she is very easily pleased. As a mermaid, she smiles and laughs and plays along even during Sebastian's song, which is basically telling her to stay where she is. The prospect of exploring a sunken ship excites her, and she does take great enjoyment from singing. This is especially true when she's human: Anything and everything makes her smile and want to learn more about it. Bubbles, puppets, wheels, everything that moves can bring her fascination. It even shows when she's with people: When she's happy or grateful, she'll kiss their cheek in gratitude. Especially when she's voiceless, seeing how she can't say thank you. She'll even tease people she's friends with, voiceless or not.

She can be slightly naïve, but mostly just to things she doesn't know about in the first place. She believes Scuttle's stories, even when they seem to be completely unbelievable. A fork is used to brush people's hair and is called a dinglehopper, and a pipe is an instrument called a snarfblatt. Because of all this, she's a little… misinformed about human objects, and will likely remain so unless someone tells her otherwise. Nevertheless, she is very eager to learn, both about the human world and beyond it.


Strengths: Physically… none in particular, since she's just getting used to being human, thus she has no idea how to work her legs. As a mermaid, she's a powerful swimmer and has a beautiful voice, but she's… kind of without those at the moment. I imagine once she gets the hang of using her legs and swimming with them, she'll be quite a good swimmer. She's also quite beautiful, noticeably so, as Ursula tells her that she has a pretty face and Eric just about falls for her as soon as he sees her.

… Otherwise she has mad dinglehopper skillz. YOU TRY BRUSHING YOUR HAIR WITH A FORK.

But she makes up for these physical faults with other things. She's expressive, so much so that it's pretty easy to tell what she's feeling and what she wants just by looking at her and seeing her expressions. Even with her voice, it's very easy to tell what she's really feeling. This makes her an awful liar, as she'll dart her eyes and shift and just… be obvious, and she tends to stroke her own hair when nervous or sad. But this is a strength when she's without her voice, as day to day interactions would be hard otherwise.

She is brave, and there isn't a lot she wouldn't do for someone she cares for. Especially if she falls for someone – she risks turning into something she's not and possibly becoming a slave to someone just for a chance to be with them and love them. She faces danger to save someone, and stands up to people who might ridicule those who are less fortunate. And though she can't protect someone with strength alone, she will at least be there and provide a sense of comfort and companionship. She'd even have a strong word with the offender, if… she could speak.

While the most that Ariel knows about the human world is through observation and what Scuttle has told her, which… is very inaccurate at least, she's also a fast learner and remembers what she learns. Scuttle tells her what something is and she'll remember the name and what it does. Well. "The name" and "what it does". When there's something she wants to learn, she's very eager about it, and she'll soak up as much information as you can give her. She'd rather learn through observation and doing things herself, though, so she'll explore more than read.

She has the ability to adapt, too. When she arrives on the beach for the first time with human legs, she has a hard time using them, and yet it doesn't deter her. She still learns and seems to have fun learning, and even if it's hard, she'll still try until she gets it right. And she doesn't seem to be too overwhelmed by everything around her either. If anything, it just makes her more curious and enthralled by everything around her. While she never outright says that she isn't a part of that world (SEE WHAT I DID THERE), it's rather obvious by the way she acts around things. Being thrilled by a fork and using it as a hair brush, for example, and continuing to do so even when she got strange looks for it.

Weaknesses: With Ariel on two legs, she is hilariously physically weak. She doesn't have much strength in her legs, and once she learns how to use them, this will probably always be a fact. In theory, she should know how to swim since she's done it her whole life. But this was with one tail, a strong one at that, and so two legs that are rather weak make it hard for her to do something that ought to be basic for her. This is why any time she's in the water in the movie, she flails almost as if she doesn't know how to swim at all.

While Ariel is brave and curious, sometimes this can get her in a lot of trouble. It can get the best of her, even, as she'll explore something that's clearly dangerous just to see what's there. Sometimes she doesn't know the danger she puts others in as well, like making Flounder come with her to where a shark lurks. She'd never knowingly put them in danger unless she just really needed help, but even unintentionally, this could cause problems.

She does break rules, too, because her curiosity is just too big for her. Tell her not to go somewhere and she will likely go, just to see why she's not supposed to go. If something has been unexplored, then to Ariel, it's just asking to be discovered, because who knows what treasures could await there. Though she's human now, she likely won't stop collecting trinkets, nor will she back down on daring feats. As a human in the movie, she does quite a few stunts that could've gotten her and someone else injured. Of course, it turned out to be fun, but who knows what would've happened had it turned out otherwise.

And, of course, there's the fact that her knowledge of the human world is slim at best and inaccurate at least. This is mostly thanks to her seagull friend, who's really misinformed her. She will make mistakes and likely embarrass herself and others as a result of it. She grew up in the ocean, so not a lot of things will be as obvious to someone who knows what it's like to be a human all their lives. Once she learns more and gets used to things, though, she'll likely start to realize what things are wrong and set out to rediscover what they mean, eager for it all the while.

Last of all she is very, very much a teenager. She is rebellious and adventurous, prone to making mistakes and rash decisions. She's trying to find her place in the world, and she knows that it's not in the ocean. So sure of this she is that she'll defy her father, who only wishes the best for his daughter, to try over and over again to sneak up to the surface and learn more. And since she is at that teenaged age, it is hard for her to learn from her mistakes, as Triton tells her countless times not to go, and yet she goes anyway. Someday she will learn, but probably not under yelling or threats like her dad usually tries to go about things.

Personality: Aqua is a warrior and a good friend, but the two parts of her don't always overlap. For as strong and calm as Aqua is, she is also caring and a bit motherly when not on the battlefield; she's feminine AND tough. Aqua's friendly, but a more quiet and reserved person than someone like Ventus or Sora. She keeps most things to herself, preferring to think and analyze internally. Still, she makes friends easily and cares deeply for them. She's a sentimentalist, very mature and thoughtful, polite, a bit of a romantic, and clearly prefers to err on the side of caution. She often tries to send others away, usually Ven, for their safety. She's a very practical optimist; that's a very good way to describe her.

However, as much as she carries herself within being a warrior, it's surprising at times how much of herself she leaves behind and almost becomes like someone else. Sometimes Aqua the Friend and Aqua the Warrior quarrel internally. The Friend has unwavering belief in herself and her friends, but the Warrior has a strict moral code regarding light and darkness that even her closest friends are judged by. However, the Warrior and Friend are both keen to fix injustice, even for those she'd only just met.

Unfortunately, her strict moral code as the Warrior sometimes interferes with her as a Friend and confuses her. She was too quick to believe the rumors Maleficent told her that Terra was harming people and helping the darkness, despite openly denying even the remotest possibility that Terra could be capable of such a thing to Maleficent and Ventus both. She didn't even ask for more evidence or try to discern the circumstances of what occurred, or talk to Terra about it before expressing her doubts about him to his face. (Terra and Ventus understandably feel betrayed.) She quickly regrets this oddly impulsive action, quietly reflecting on her misstep. She knows better, but her worry and doubt temporarily overcame her. Ventus also comments that becoming a Master has gone to Aqua's head, that she's too obedient to following the orders given by Master Eraqus…despite the fact that both orders are reasonable, understandable, and appeal directly to Aqua's maternal side concerning both of her closest friends.

Though emotionally she functions as a much more sympathetic person while the Friend, like the Master she has been dubbed, her Warrior senses are always on alert and she tends to be sensitive to the auras of good and evil around her, moreso than others. She's smart and sharp, listens carefully and pays close attention to her surroundings in order to make logical deductions and proceed practically. She also works very hard to protect innocent people who might get involved in with darkness. Blessedly, she's also a very humble person. She never boasts about her power or about being a Master when Terra is not…in fact, she doesn't even refer to herself as a Master until the very end of the game, and to an enemy.

Being a caring and maternal sort, Aqua is often the first to comfort someone in distress, and she's typically very good about guessing in what way is best for each individual person. With Terra, she tends to try to pretend that nothing has happened, because that is what he prefers, but Ventus she reminds of their bonds as a trio and the familial love the three have for one another in order to restore his confidence.

Her more feminine side tends to come out regarding only her closest friends, Ventus and Aqua, and in the face of romantic situations.
