Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Amagasa | Original Character | 2/5

History: Amagasa’s world is basically a (sorta) normal Earth where All Myths Are True, to an extent, so things such as supernatural creatures actually exist. Generically called “demons” (which makes it confusing since there are also actual demons, but anyway), they primarily exist in a parallel realm of existence colloquially known as the “spirit world”, which overlaps with but generally remains unseen by and cannot directly affect the physical realm. While the boundary between the two realms was once weak, these days only a small fraction of the human population is able to properly interact with the spirit world. Amagasa is a tsukumogami, which are objects inhabited by spirits that gain sentience after reaching their 100th anniversary.

Amagasa was an oil paper umbrella made in Gifu City, during the late 1900s. He was bought by a young woman, who later passed him own to her own daughter, who remained his owner for a number of years -- he was there to watch her awkward courtship during her teenage years, and was also used as a decoration at her wedding. Of course, this ended when she one day forgot him on the train, and left alone until another passenger picked him up, this time a businessman. Who forgot him at a restaurant a few months later, where he was taken back by a waiter -- this became a pattern for a good chunk of his life, where his owners would forget him somewhere and he’d be picked up by somebody else. He was fortunate that his owners generally took care of him, or at least weren’t very careless with him.

Eventually, he was kept away as the popularity of traditional umbrellas began to wane to favour of more convenient Western umbrellas. His years in storage passed by quietly -- he felt little resentment, or had as much feeling as an umbrella could have anyway, and was more depressed than anything else to be honest. He wasn’t being used anymore, after all. Years later, while the family who owned him were cleaning out storage, he ended up being sold to an antique store by one of the grandchildren. As a very old umbrella he didn’t catch anyone’s interest enough to be sold again, but at that point he stopped minding and merely contented himself with watching any customers the store got.

Time went by. Eventually he turned 100 years old, and the lucky umbrella suddenly found that he had an actual body, of sorts -- not just the umbrella he originally was, but something more appropriately humanoid to interact with the world with. This acquiring of a second body also made him more acutely self-aware, which was...also pretty disorienting. Needless to say, it was incredibly awkward on his end; though the store owner could not see him, it felt very uncomfortable to remain in the shop when he could move around now and suddenly had a lot of things to think about, so within a few days of his “awakening” he picked up his umbrella self and left.

The modern world probably would have eaten him alive, as he was clueless about most things and had little understanding of how youkai society worked, making him easy prey for less savory characters -- and he was going to get ripped apart for unknowingly offending some local demons if he hadn’t been rescued by another tsukumogami, Menka. Menka was a much, much older tsukumogami (and a roll of cotton), and was a member of the tsukumogami support network, meant to aid other tsukumogami in adjusting to their newly acquired youkaihood and the modern world. Once it was made how blatantly obvious Amagasa had no damn idea what he was supposed to do, she took him under his wing and has been using him a clothes model ever since.

A year later they met another tsukumogami, a doll named Clarice, fresh out of gaining sentience and harbouring a deep resentment towards humans -- and would have probably went about exacting revenge if she wasn’t so trounced by the modern world. Menka also chose to take her under her wing, more to keep an eye on a potential troublemaker who would attract unwanted attention and keep her under control, if that was possible. And so Amagasa gained another friend!

And really his life hasn’t been all that interesting, right until he finds himself in Luceti.
