If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Name: Amagasa
Gender: Male
Age: 101, physically appears to be in late teens or early twenties.
Wing Color: Glaucous (bluish-grey)
Physical Appearance: Amagasa is rather tall and lanky with long limbs. He has black hair and a golden eye, the lack of the other one being concealed by an eye patch. Since he apparently didn’t seem to understand that people have two eyes for a reason. He wears a gakuran with a matching cap, and is almost always carrying an old blue paper umbrella along with him, with a crane design on it.
His PB is Kagenui Kurokichi from Monokuro Kitan.
Amagasa | Original Character | 2/5
Amagasa was an oil paper umbrella made in Gifu City, during the late 1900s. He was bought by a young woman, who later passed him own to her own daughter, who remained his owner for a number of years -- he was there to watch her awkward courtship during her teenage years, and was also used as a decoration at her wedding. Of course, this ended when she one day forgot him on the train, and left alone until another passenger picked him up, this time a businessman. Who forgot him at a restaurant a few months later, where he was taken back by a waiter -- this became a pattern for a good chunk of his life, where his owners would forget him somewhere and he’d be picked up by somebody else. He was fortunate that his owners generally took care of him, or at least weren’t very careless with him.
Eventually, he was kept away as the popularity of traditional umbrellas began to wane to favour of more convenient Western umbrellas. His years in storage passed by quietly -- he felt little resentment, or had as much feeling as an umbrella could have anyway, and was more depressed than anything else to be honest. He wasn’t being used anymore, after all. Years later, while the family who owned him were cleaning out storage, he ended up being sold to an antique store by one of the grandchildren. As a very old umbrella he didn’t catch anyone’s interest enough to be sold again, but at that point he stopped minding and merely contented himself with watching any customers the store got.
Time went by. Eventually he turned 100 years old, and the lucky umbrella suddenly found that he had an actual body, of sorts -- not just the umbrella he originally was, but something more appropriately humanoid to interact with the world with. This acquiring of a second body also made him more acutely self-aware, which was...also pretty disorienting. Needless to say, it was incredibly awkward on his end; though the store owner could not see him, it felt very uncomfortable to remain in the shop when he could move around now and suddenly had a lot of things to think about, so within a few days of his “awakening” he picked up his umbrella self and left.
The modern world probably would have eaten him alive, as he was clueless about most things and had little understanding of how youkai society worked, making him easy prey for less savory characters -- and he was going to get ripped apart for unknowingly offending some local demons if he hadn’t been rescued by another tsukumogami, Menka. Menka was a much, much older tsukumogami (and a roll of cotton), and was a member of the tsukumogami support network, meant to aid other tsukumogami in adjusting to their newly acquired youkaihood and the modern world. Once it was made how blatantly obvious Amagasa had no damn idea what he was supposed to do, she took him under his wing and has been using him a clothes model ever since.
A year later they met another tsukumogami, a doll named Clarice, fresh out of gaining sentience and harbouring a deep resentment towards humans -- and would have probably went about exacting revenge if she wasn’t so trounced by the modern world. Menka also chose to take her under her wing, more to keep an eye on a potential troublemaker who would attract unwanted attention and keep her under control, if that was possible. And so Amagasa gained another friend!
And really his life hasn’t been all that interesting, right until he finds himself in Luceti.
Amagasa | Original Character | 3/5
In a way, Amagasa is a strange mixture of young and old. Though over a hundred years old, this makes him very young for a youkai. He has seen many things by virtue of passing through many hands over his lifetime, but at the same comes off as a little naive and clueless because he has little actual experience -- in the end, he was only an observer. The modern world confuses him in a way that might remind you of an old man trying to come to grips with a computer, and he seems to be attracted to “traditional” past-times, like flowerviewing and tea ceremony, perhaps because he is a traditional object himself. Like a old man he reminisces about the “old days”, which are the years he was used the most often, and he uses words that would be considered old-fashioned by today’s standards -- it creates a weird dissonance with his appearance as a fairly young man.
More so than being “young” however, Amagasa is also an umbrella, and technically still is, which...certainly gives him an interesting view on the world. He was sensing the world despite lacking conventional sensory channels as an ordinary umbrella, and even then it wasn’t in the same way as a human would. He has no concept of taste, a limited concept of pain and body language, and...well, generally isn’t very good at acting human. He considers himself an “object” through and through. It’s not so much degrading to him as it simply is a fact of his existence, like how the sky is blue and grass is green. In a place like Luceti he will be even less inclined to try hiding it, since supernatural beings are pretty much normal and he’ll consider it no different from the spirit realm where youkai dwell in that sense. If they can believe they’re trapped in another world, they can believe he’s a sentient umbrella.
Unlike many tsukumogami who resent and despise humans for abandoning or throwing them away, Amagasa has no such feelings towards them -- though this is largely because he was never particularly ill-treated, and because of the numerous owners he’s had before. He believes humans are careless but ultimately mostly non-malicious beings, so changing between one owner to the next felt less like he was being abandoned and more simply life moving on. If anything, he finds humans to be interesting and maintains a healthy curiosity towards their lives, even if he just thinks they’re weird sometimes. He has a strong liking for trains and wants to learn cooking despite having no idea what food is supposed to taste like, since he was usually forgotten on the train or at restaurants.
Having spent many years unused and alone however has also left Amagasa as someone deeply introspective. As an umbrella who has gained sentience, and therefore is more than just an umbrella now, he feels lost in a modern world where paper umbrellas are more souvenirs and works of art, and because he can no longer say that his purpose is merely as a shield against the rain. Basically, he’s become a person without really understanding what that means for him, even though he still considers himself an umbrella. It’s pretty obvious that he’s trying to figure out what’s his new purpose and place in life. For this reason, he attempts to imitate humans and other youkai, hoping it will help him better understand what being a person is. He’s the sort of person to ponder the meaning of life and other such things, hoping to find an answer for himself.
Amagasa | Original Character | 4/5
Amagasa is a tsukumogami, which in his world’s terms means he’s essentially a lich. Amagasa has two bodies -- a humonoid form which is a representation of his spirit, and the original paper umbrella which is his “true” body. His human form is basically spiritual energy formed together to give itself a solid shape, and as such he doesn’t have an actual biology -- he has no real organs and mimics bodily functions based on what he knows about that. His “blood” is not actual blood, for example, just bits of energy that look like it. Since his humanoid body has no biology to it, he cannot be affected by physical ailments nor does he have to worry about physical needs.
Since he has two bodies, Amagasa cannot truly die if only his humanoid body is destroyed; he will respawn within a week. Similarly, injuries to this body will also regenerate slowly, with minor injuries healing over completely within a few hours to a more severe injuries taking three days or longer. On the other hand, destroying his umbrella will kill him instantly. For purposes of Luceti, deaths caused by removing the wings on his humanoid body or destroying his umbrella will count as “true” deaths and incur Death Penalties, while deaths via other methods will have him simply respawning a week or more later. If he doesn’t get his umbrella destroyed first in the meantime.
As a youkai he is overall somewhat stronger, faster and hardier than the average human, though compared to other supernatural creatures he’s actually on the weaker end of the scale. He also has two other abilities, the first of them being that as long as he’s holding onto his umbrella, it will be impervious to most forms of damage, barring fire, electricity and techniques specifically designed to harm spiritual creatures like demons and youkai. He can create rain that has a soothing, calming effect to those within its presence, however prolonged exposure will induce lethargy, melancholy and possibly depression. Under the powercap the area of the rain will be highly localized, at largest taking up an area equivalent to the village square.
While this largely does not apply to Luceti, Amagasa can be “contracted” by a human, a process which basically entails the contractee acting a supplementary energy tank to him so that he can maintain his form in the physical realm while still having access to his supernatural abilities, in exchange for providing services to them. Obviously there will be no such need for this in Luceti since there is no spirit realm and physical realm like in his world, and it is highly unlikely he will ever get contracted here.
Strengths: Most of what’s been mentioned in his abilities are strengths, so this will be a bit short!
Physically, he’s...an umbrella, and therefore technically not quite a living being. Though he has a humanoid body, he has no need for those nice things like eating or breathing to “live”, unlike actual fleshy people.
Amagasa is actually rather intelligent and surprisingly knowledgeable, by virtue of technically being an old man in terms of age. Admittedly, some of the stuff he knows is a little trivial. He’s also pretty open-minded and incredibly non-judgmental, since he is pretty mild-mannered and curious about the world.
He’s emotionally stable and...well, as mentioned earlier, pretty mellow! Amagasa is calm, if melancholic, and isn’t the type to flip out unless you give a damn good reason to, which you’ll be hardpressed to find.
Weaknesses:
He’s an umbrella. When his umbrella is not in his hands, it’s just an ordinary umbrella made out of wood and oil-coated paper, which means that it is easy to destroy (and thus kill him). Even disregarding that, any damage to his umbrella will be permanently reflected on his humanoid body, unless said damage can be repaired. Although he’s somewhat stronger than an average human, a well-trained one can easily match him, and most other supernatural beings will likely surpass his abilities as tsukumogami really aren’t very powerful in general. Though he has an innate respawn for deaths that would not incur a penalty, it’s still inconvenient and leaves him vulnerable since his spirit will remained confined to his umbrella, unable to do much else.
He also has zero depth perception, since he only has one eye and wouldn’t even know what having depth perception would be like. Similarly, his dulled sense of pain and heat and cold can actually work against him, since it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s not getting hurt from whatever’s causing them.
Mentally, Amagasa is old-fashioned and out-of-touch with the modern world! He tries to learn, god bless him, but the fact remains that he isn’t used to it and will remained confused by it for a while yet. And although he’s polite, he hasn’t had a lot of experience socializing, so he can sometimes be tactless or offensive without realizing it. He can also be rather naive thanks to said lack of actual experience.
Emotionally, Amagasa is very bad at emoting, with his general expression range being lineface. He’s not used to having a face, and since he also doesn’t tend to feel strongly there isn’t exactly much to express -- it can be hard trying to guess his feelings because of this. He doesn’t actually understand intense negative feelings like anger and hate, although he tries his best to be able to relate, since he hasn’t experienced something negative enough to induce that sort of feeling. If he were to somehow ever actually experience them for himself he probably wouldn’t be sure how to handle them and just repress them instead, which can be a bad thing.

First Person: Q&A, please!
Third Person: Amagasa was fairly certain he’s never been in a forest during winter time before. He’d never actually been in one before actually, though he knew what a forest looks like. He’d seen from the trains many times, after all. It was a bit strange to be in one now, when he last remembered being in the city. Surreal, even. A part of him wondered if it was an illusion by someone looking to play a prank, but the snow on the ground felt real enough, though he couldn’t say for sure whether or not it was actually cold enough to really be snow. And his pants, because Menka would never allow him to settle for something as plain looking as the ones he was wearing right now. Amagasa had very little fashion sense, but had a good idea of what the older lady liked to dress him and Clarice up in -- though he really didn’t see the appeal behind that. But he was not one to question her when she sounded like she knew what she was doing.
Ah, speaking of which, she’d probably be pretty upset if he somehow lost the clothes she made for him. It would be better to find it, because he wasn’t sure if he wanted to explain himself to her if or when he found her and Clarice again. At least he didn’t need to worry about himself, since the umbrella was right next to him when he woke up. To say that he would be anxious if he had somehow lost sight of himself would be an understatement. Animals would probably get curious if they saw an umbrella lying around, and...well, he didn’t really want to think about it.
But, yes! First thing he should do was to get out of the forest. Try to figure out where he was, go look for the other two. At the very least, he wouldn’t be impeded by the snow and his current state of shoelessness too much.
Q&A
Re: Q&A
Different species...? I don't think I treat them much differently. If I were to treat other youkai as any less important I'm pretty sure they'd get rather upset. [Since it's not like tsukumogami are very high on the totem pole.] Humans...they made me and all the other objects I know. I don't think I'm in any position to say they're less important.
2. What do you think of yourself? How do you value your own life?
I'm an umbrella. a very old one, even though all the others I've met would say I'm not much more than a babe. Even so, I am fortunate to have been granted such a quaint life. All I can do with it is to...live, I guess.
3. What makes you happy?
Flower-viewing. Trains. ...Things being treated well. [As he lists the things out he seems to have this sort of...glazed, distant look on his face. He's just thinking about the things that make him happy, really.]
4. If there is one thing about yourself that you could change, what would it be?
...It'd be nice if I could actually taste food. [Because eating looks like fun and he would like to cook but that is rather difficult when you can't taste anything.]
5. If you could be reborn as someone else, who would you be? Why?
...I honestly don't know? I'm rather happy the way I am. If I must, maybe as a...human? Or not as an umbrella. Maybe I'll better understand what being a "person" is like then. Though I think the whole thing about being reborn is that you forget your past life, so I wouldn't be able to compare anyway.
