Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

You may link to threads on the
trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered. HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the
luceti profile page.Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Physical
Kid is an extremely talented and strong martial artist. In fact, he follows a type of martial arts that is designed specifically for shinigami, including three special stances: Crime, Mad Crime, and Punishment. Kid’s skill as a martial artist is shown most frequently in his fights with Black Star, specifically their last fight when the two friends meet each other with near-killing intent, Black Star intent on proving his strength and Kid, willing to meet Black Star’s challenge and do him the honor of seeing it through. Kid defeats Black Star solidly, without the aid of either of their weapons, in a literally crushing defeat.
As a shinigami, Kid’s body is extremely resilient. Not only does he heal disturbingly quickly, but he’s not affected by the elements in the same way humans are – these elements include, heat, cold, and radiation.
And, yes, he is very, very strong.
Mental
Kid is extremely bright and very perceptive. He is very, very good at connecting all the pieces of a puzzle and seeing what other students do not see. In the show, he is the only student who perceives that his father’s actions are suspicious, and warns the others about the actions of the Academy. He can be focused and disciplined, as evidenced by the strength of his Soul Perception.
Emotional
When not throwing a fit over symmetry, Kid is very calm. He’s pleasant and chill when with friends, and shows concern for them, such as when he checks with Soul about Maka’s treatment of Crona. He forgives Black Star his challenge and knows that Tsubaki is coming to apologize for Black Star’s behavior before she says anything. He’s often times the would-be peacemaker between Maka and Black Star, showing incredible focus.
Special Powers
A meister and a shinigami, Kid has the ability to manipulate his soul and spiritual presence into weapons. Since his weapons are guns, this takes on the form of shooting compressions of his soul’s wavelength into someone else. He is, of course, unable to shoot without his guns. There are varying levels of attacks that can be discussed, but for the purpose of this application I’ll just focus on what special powers he has without the aid of his weapons:
The Lines of Sanzou: Those three funky lines on the top of Kid’s head? Yeah, it turns out they’re not just there to drive him crazy. When they connect, his abilities increase. Kid has no idea how to connect them on his own, in his timeline it hasn’t happened yet and only happens under extreme duress, but they’re basically a power upgrade. When the lines connect, the caliber of his weapons increases. To quote a wiki: The Lines of Sanzu seem to be directly linked to Death's own natural special abilities, as he was able to access some of his father's abilities after connecting one line. There also appears to be some direct connection to Death, as he displays visible signs of pain after the first connection occurred. Spirit's response at this point suggests that the connection of the lines - while technically beneficial to Kid - do not bode well for Death. Death however, sees the lines advancment as progress for his son. Kid immediately concludes that his father gave him Brew because of the power of the Lines of Sanzu, and resolves to meet (what he sees as) his father's expectations. Curiously, he shows no prior knowledge of the Lines' significance, while reacting very quickly to the changes they temporarily brought about.
Soul Perception: By focusing on an individual soul, a skilled Soul Perception practitioner can actually 'read' a soul and make accurate judgments about the person's characteristics, personality and Soul Wavelength. Knowing the Wavelength of a soul can allow a skilled meister to match or disrupt the opponent's Wavelength in or outside of combat, making it a valuable skill in analyzing the opponent.
Worth noting, even though his weapons aren’t here is the ease in which he is able to align his soul with not just one, but two weapons. This is an extremely difficult feat, requiring great strength, determination, and acceptance. It’s something that’s unique to Liz, Patty, and Kid and both the anime and manga point to their mutual admiration for each other as a contributing factor, although a large part of it is also Kid’s skill in controlling his soul.
Also, he can do some pretty rad moves on his flying skateboard, using it for offense and defense.
Weaknesses
Physical
Kid is by no means impervious to damage. Though he heals quickly, and is preternaturally fast and strong, he can be taken out of a fight. He’s been known to collapse, in fact, when his personal symmetry is compromised, such as at the end of his fight with Soul and Black Star after realizing Soul had managed to clip off some of his bangs, thus making his hair further unbalanced.
Mental
Kid, while bright, is exceptionally vulnerable to his obsession with symmetry. In the “Written Exam” episode, he can’t even take the test because he spends the entire period writing his name. I can’t get the “K” right! Damnit! I’m worthless! In fact, he once allowed Demon Sword Crona to escape because he was caught admiring a beautiful sunset. He’ll fall on the floor and start cursing himself if he does something he perceives as asymmetrical. He’ll become incapable of fighting if surrounded by too much mess, and if presented with something perfectly symmetrical be unable to harm it.
His obsession with order leads to him to the belief in certain moral absolutes as well. Kid is currently unwilling to consider or deal with the concept of something being morally gray, as evidenced in his conversation with Stein, when Kid was trying to discover his father’s motives in pursuing the magical tools.
In fact, his very mental acuteness can lead to misperceptions. Noticing some inconsistencies in his father’s behavior compared to what he knows of Academy tenets, he immediately begins to suspect his father, the one person he respects above all others and wants to emulate. This indicates a kind of paranoia that comes from seeing himself as a – or even perhaps, the – moral authority.
Emotional
Kid’s need to prove himself to his father – or even to prove himself to be worthy of being a death god and his father’s son – affects all of his motivations. In fits about symmetry, he often cries “I’m worthless” and “I’m not fit to be his son.”
While usually even-tempered, Kid is, in fact, ridiculously easy to anger. All someone needs to do is to destroy something symmetrical to earn his profound – and very genuine – disgust. If he perceives the destruction as deliberate, he will often meet out retribution for the act. Black Star uses this to get Kid to fight him, both consciously and unconsciously, and even Liz will use this tendency of rage in order to help Kid focus on what it is that he needs to fight instead of the chaos surrounding him, such as when he is confronted with Free – she’s able to get him to focus by pointing out that he has a ball and chain on his left foot, and not on his right.
Special Powers
Without his weapons amplifying his spiritual wavelength, Kid’s access to his powers is limited. He is still an agile fighter, still spiritually perceptive, but he will not be able to use his soul as a weapon.
Also, his Soul Perception is limited, as all Soul Perception is, by a particular cloaking technique of witches. This could be extended in Luceti – if someone has the ability to hide their soul, he may not be able to perceive it.
And again – he doesn’t know how to activate those lines on top of his head.
