Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Traveler | Journey [Personality, Strengths & Weaknesses]

[personal profile] nihongoing 2012-09-05 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Despite having no dialogue in the game and no concrete history, the traveler’s personality can be understood via the game dynamics itself. The traveler is brave even when alone as seen by the fact that it doesn’t appear to be frightened at waking up in the middle of a desert with no explanation. Instead, the traveler displays innate curiosity about its surroundings and a high level of trust in both inanimate and animate interactive objects. It sees a glowing mountain in the distance and wants to go in that direction because its curiosity drives it to know more. It sees a glittering symbol in the desert and moves toward it, wanting to know what it does. It sees a blank wall and calls to it, causing murals to appear and teach it about the world around it. Much like a child, the traveler isn’t afraid because it hasn’t learned fear, but it has an intimate relationship with curiosity and the thirst for knowledge.

As the traveler moves through its world, it learns more and more about the people that came before, the construction of its world and the nature of its own existence. The traveler doesn’t shirk from this, but moves onward toward the mountain, knowing that its destiny is there in the shining light. It isn’t afraid of what lays ahead, even after it meets the dragons in the underground area and is chased and harmed by them. It knows that hardship awaits it, but it moves forward because that is what it must do. Thus it can be seen that the traveler has both curiosity and a strong sense of duty. Also, the traveler can trek to the mountain more than once – each time reincarnated with its previous knowledge, gaining new stripes and glyphs on its cloak, leading other travelers toward the mountain where their destiny waits.

It is intelligent because it quickly learns that glyphs give it further flight, the ribbon-like creatures recharge its scarf that allows it to fly, and can solve simple puzzles that stand in its way toward its goal. However, the traveler has no written language, nor can it understand “human” speech. It communicates through musical calls and actions. When it is happy, it can chirp, jump, sing loudly, fly, draw pictures in the sand or snow, or run circles around whatever makes it happy. When it is curious, it chirps furiously at whatever it doesn’t understand. When it is frustrated or unhappy, it can trip on its own scarf and fall face first onto the ground, lying there for however long it feels necessary.

More than anything, though, the traveler craves companionship. When the traveler sees another like itself, it wants to be with them. Together the travelers can complete several tasks and, judging by the nature of their powers, they are a cooperative species. Without arms, they rely on the powers granted by the glowing glyphs and the proximity of their travel buddy to help them fly and learn more about their world. When it sees another, it chirps and calls like a song, trying to grab attention and its voice can cause sound ripples that affect the ground around it. When it meets the other person, overjoyed, the traveler often runs circles around its newfound friend, using its voice to power the other traveler’s scarf and keep its travel buddy afloat for longer than the scarf would normally allow.

The traveler doesn’t fight and, without arms, it’s unlikely that the traveler even can fight. It can run or hide from predators like the dragons, but it does not fight. The traveler is essentially pacifistic, curious, and childlike even with its intelligence. It is also reborn after each journey to the mountain, stuck in a cycle of life and rebirth that it does not seem to mind, showing that it has patience and a quiet resolve to continue its journey as long as it takes, as much as it takes, so long as it is needed.

Strengths:
Physical = The traveler is able to fly and fall great distances without injury. It can be hit by stone dragons and, while its scarf is lost (or eaten by the dragon), the traveler itself is able to pick up and carry on after a brief period of lying on the ground. It has no visible mouth and does not appear to need food or drink since there is none available in its world. The traveler subsists on power borrowed from the glowing symbols and the cloth creatures of its world in order to fly, but can run great distances without fatigue if no power is available to it.

Mental/Emotional = It is curious, intelligent, brave and tenacious. Once the traveler has realized its destiny, the traveler doesn’t shirk from it, instead moving through its world toward the glowing mountain lights without remorse. Its curiosity and trusting nature makes it quite personable and it desires company, cultivating a cooperative disposition. (see the personality section for examples)

Weaknesses:
The traveler is unable to speak, limiting its ability to interact efficiently with the other Luceti residents. It will not be able to understand what the other residents say to it because it learns via actions, not words. This will make integration into Luceti society reasonably difficult for the traveler. Also, the traveler, in order to access its ability to fly, needs the glowing symbols and cloth creatures of its world which may not be available in Luceti. It will experience loneliness since it will be the only traveler in Luceti for now and will be unable to follow its destiny, causing confusion for it.

As a side note, the traveler has never seen water either and it is unlikely that it would be able to swim.
