PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!
Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!
PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Name: Scorpius
Fandom: Farscape
Gender: Male
Age: Uh. At least 30-something? Given how long Sebaceans and Scarrans both live it probably is more
lol ages in this show...Time Period: Following Crais imploding his Command Carrier at the tail end of season 3
Wing Color: Black
History: legit
Personality: Scorpius is, first and foremost, a man who is utterly consumed with a need for vengeance. It informs almost all of his actions and defines his whole personality at this point: Scorpius hates the Scarran race and everything it stands for. He would see them dead, and basically everything he has done in his adult life has been to facilitate this end. While through the course of the series Scorpius goes out of his way to define this thirst for vengeance in many ways - altruistic, for the good of the galaxy, out of loyalty to the Peacekeepers, and many other ways, when the chips are down (as seen in the first issue of the Farscape Boom Comics) he is willing to create a new war if necessary to justify their destruction. He just really, really hates them (for relatively good reason) and it is his life's work to see them utterly destroyed.
This is not to say he is a single-minded individual though, far from it. Scorpius, at any given time will have dozens of plans and plots hanging in the winds. He is an incredibly intelligent and cunning individual - a scientist, a military leader, a technical genius, and basically everything in between. He can lie with a perfectly straight face, but more often than not, Scorpius tends to prefer to play both sides of an argument, or control all sides of a given situation, overwhelming his opponents with superior resources (gained through alliances, duplicity, or both) and outmaneuvering them. He's a smooth operator, for want of a better term, who handles all the angles and is able to charm and intimidate people with almost equal skill. While intelligent and powerful in general, Scorpius also tends to win through the use of a silver tongue.
Okay so, what makes him tick beyond that. In his own words, Scorpius is a "patient" man. He's willing to focus in On a specific thing and wait until the moment is right, using a long reaching plan (like, for example, his neutral clone chip). This does not mean, however, that he is complacent. Scorpius, in the series, is constantly in motion - setting in a new plan, a new scheme, making a new alliance, or studying new information. He might be patient, but he knows that his time is far from infinite (in the series nominally due to the fact that the Scarrans will invade Peacekeeper space and - he thinks - win) and thus wants to produce results by whatever means necessary. Despite showing some genuine affection here and there - Braca, Sikozu to an extent, and twistedly with Natira - for the most part, if it further his Great Goals (that is to say, destroying the Scarrans, albeit in the series until the end of Peacekeeper Wars that is generally translated as ensuring Sebacean dominance) basically everything is expendable to him if it no longer serves a purpose. (NOTE: this can and does include innocent bystanders)
Okay finally something of note beyond all this framework: From his appearance in season 1 through the end of Peacekeeper Wars, the main focus of Scorpius's attention is John Critchon. It's really not unfair at all to say that Scorpius is obsessed with John. It's not because of any skill he has or a vendetta per se, it's because John possesses the knowledge of how to control and make wormholes, which are both the most powerful source of transit and (theoretically) the most powerful weapon in existence. Scorpius has chased John all over Sebacean space, the Uncharted Territories, and pretty much everywhere else for the sake of that knowledge, often torturing him or his comrades when he gets the chance to do so. However, it's really not personal as of the canon point I am apping from (at least, not that personal - I would argue it becomes more personal from every point after it) he just really feels he needs that wormhole data, which is why through most of season 3 (as his neural clone was extracted with what he assumed was the complete data) Scorpius leaves John and co alone for the most part until he realizes the data he has is incomplete.
Scorpius's confrontation with John after he learns these facts really highlights his personality traits though. Not trusting John, but welcoming him to the research team on his terms, Scorpius tries to speed things up through telling John the specifics whys of his desire for the wormhole weapon, citing the Scarrans as being a threat to everyone. However, when all these attempts are not producing results fast enough - due to a woman named Grayza showing up and mucking up his timing - Scorpius reveals that he has in fact had the ultimate ace the entire time: he reveals that through obsessive star-charting he has located where Earth is, and while he admits it would take him decades to arrive at it, he is willing to go that far and destroy it (or, perhaps, the Scarrans would) if John does not cooperate. Ultimately, all these fail due to the insane plan John came up with as well as a sacrifice on the part of Crais and Talyn, but his plan is very, very bulletproof seeming until the very last moment. (which is typical of Scorpius's encounters with John and the crew of Moya)
Strengths:
- Though not nearly as tough as a proper Scarran, the Scarran parts of his biology afford Scorpius vastly superior strength to the average Sebacean, as he is shown to throw Crais around like a rag doll with his bare hands when he is provoked.
- It's unclear if this is a result of his thermal suit's material or his Scarran skin (more likely it is the former) but Scorpius has a distinct resistance to pulse weaponry, and is able to take several shots and still keep going. While his suit is rarely tested as compared to conventional weapons, it is most likely as strong or stronger than Kevlar to boot.
- Despite those two bits, however, Scorpius's true strength is his genius level intellect and incredible wit. Through the entire series Scorpius is often two steps ahead of everyone else and it is only through luck, insanity, or some combination of the two that he is ever truly defeated in the run of the show. He manipulates events and other characters, and often when his plans have "failed" he has still leaked something in to win in the end, such as when Grayza ousted him from power, he had Braca as an inside man and on the spot planted his first seeds of winning over Sikozu in the same bit. When John escaped his Gammak Base (blowing it up as well), Scorpius was able to put a neural clone of himself in John's head which would plague him the rest of the series. When he "killed" the neural clone to win John's trust, he actually made it dormant and set to activate to urge John to save his life if it was necessary. Basically, the guy is really smart and clever and all that. And patient.
- ...He also seems to be a surprisingly good shot with a pulse rifle. But this is a minor ability -while not afraid to get his hands dirty in any instance it's only really in season 4 (and Peacekeeper Wars) when he's totally out of his element where he takes to the battlefield personally. (albeit, in Luceti he would be in that situation so)
Weaknesses:
- His most direct and obvious weakness is his own biology. Scarrans thrive on heat (and produce it!) whereas Sebaceans when subjected to heat begin to shut down mentally. What this means is that Scorpius is eternally at war with his own biological make up, and in order to (comfortably) survive he's gone to great lengths: he has a thermal suit we never see him out of (presumably he could not safely leave it) and cooling rods which are inserted directly into his brain. These rods also seem to need to replaced ever few hours, or a series of negative effects happen: first he gets more irritable and violent as his Scarran part takes over, then he begins to think less clearly, followed by foaming at the mouth and projectile vomiting. After this, he eventually succumbs to heat delirium (in which he loses short term memory and experiences physical paralysis) and eventually would fall prey to the Living Death - which would throw him into a brain-dead coma.
- Emotionally, while he does inspire a unique loyalty in a select few (Braca, to a lesser extent Sikozu or Natira; perversely John), on the whole Scorpius is very distant for people. A part of this is how swank and, frankly, creepy he can be, but aside from this he is very slow to put trust in people, and even people he does "trust," he rarely does so without some ace up his sleeve. What this means is at the end of the day if his manipulations fail or he's pulled out of his element, he has very few allies, let alone friends. (That said, he is very rarely pulled entirely out of his element)
- It plays into his biology, but it is worth noting that he is half-Scarran and he does not seem to eat crystherium with any regularity. What this means is that the Scarran parts of his brain are incredibly simplistic and when he loses his temper, his cooling rods are failing him, or some combination of the two, he often thinks far less clearly. This is usually shown by using a deeper, "Scarran" voice as opposed to his usual smooth one.
- ...John? This totally counts. Scorpius's manipulations of John are many, but John's seemingly impossible defeats of Scorpius are many too. John's special brand of insanity makes him Scorpius's natural enemy in terms of their respective ability sets; besides this, the wormhole knowledge John has in his head Scorpius is willing to kill, steal, manipulate, torture, be tortured, betray everyone ever, and die for. What's more, Scorpius goes through the show with a rapidly changing opinion of John - in seasons 1 and 2 he spends most of his time underestimating him and in season 4, Peacekeeper Wars, and particularly the comics set after Peacekeeper Wars we see him vastly overestimating John's ability. From the point I am taking him from, he has just started on the overestimation cycle, which might affect his judgment he were to encounter someone who is a Madman Who Gets Results.

First Person:
Hello, I... would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Scorpius. [The voice is calm and collected - practiced and even] And I must confess, this world's principle is fascinating - to pull beings from all manner of realities only to lock them up like this must be an... interesting, study. How unfortunate that we must all be caught up in it.
[Private / 10% Unhackable]
This is how you would go about it, yes? Of course...
[Private / 25% Unhackable]
It's a simplistic system, really. Lacking in many ways... still. One must adapt to the environment.
[Private / 50% Unhackable]
Patience. I've long since learned it is extremely valuable.
[Private / 90% Unhackable]
This will do... for the time being. In any case, to anyone still listening - Brava. [There is a light hint of sarcasm there]
[Filtered to John Crichton / Broken Filter]
Hello John.
Ah... Not here after all. A pity. [There's a very frustrated sigh here. On one hand, it's relieving - on the other, he now can't make sure that the knowledge John has is safe. It was unsettling when he found something which was posted by John in the extreme backlog of these data collection units. Over a cycle ago - nothing since, of course, so it was a slim hope, but he couldn't help but cover his bases. So... here he was. On some other plane of existence, stuck, no wormholes and nothing of value.
Well, at first glance. Time will tell.]
Third Person: At first glance, Scorpius had concluded there was nothing of value for him to be found on this world. Oh, oh how wrong he had been, he now realized. The cautionary information on Shifting in the guide had lead him to believe they were a far more inexact version of the very wormhole information he'd recently lost - ergo, he would be better suited to simply return to his reality, find John Critchon, and use the wormhole weapon he would extract from him. But no... no. It was a rare thing for him to underestimate a process such as this so completely, but now that he has found some previous Malnosso posts on this network, not to mention those which were made by others...
"Shifting" was just the power he needed. All the power he needed. With a Shift-based weapon it was conceivably possible to bring all the Scarrans here, or erase them from existence. This was made even more true by the "sacrifice" that these "Third Party" individuals seemed to know how to practice. If he were to attain both of those sets of information...
Well, it might be inefficient to pursue both. A long term goal. No matter. He was standing attop one of the community buildings, looking down at all the humans - yes humans, how quaint - and other assorted beings still out at this time of night. No doubt, most of them could not clearly make him out at this distance, but he was able to see their every movement easily. And yet... despite the relative weakness of the senses in this population, a great many of them had fantastic abilities well beyond the scope of most species in his reality. Some of their natural talents, or perhaps acquired talents well surpassed those of the Scarrans, even. Useful allies, incredibly tiresome enemies.
Which is why, of course, they would be considered allies. After all, no Critchon, no Scarrans, no reason to make enemies among the population of this "village." His only enemies... And he looked now up at the "night sky" - those unfamiliar stars he was all but certain were an illusion for this barrier. His only enemies were those who were holding onto the information he now decided he would seek outside of this barrier.
