Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. You may link to threads on the
trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered. HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. Character
Name: Freyr
Fandom: Matantei Loki or Mythical Detective Loki (Specifically the first part of the manga series up through vol 7, though a small amount of the beginning of the second part of the series Matantei Loki Ragnarok will be included. This is not to be confused with the anime that is slightly different in events.)
Gender: Male
Age: Looks mid 20s, is really thousands and thousands.
Time Period: Vol 3 of Ragnarok after Loki plays the game of like with Utgard Loki.

Personality: Freyr is what most would call a ditz, in fact he and his sister are frequently referred to as the "stupid siblings" because they are so dingy most the time. However despite this Freyr somehow is capable of many great feats, he is considered a hero of the gods for a reason. So usually even if it might be in a fumbling sort of manner Freyr manages to succeed with his goals. However his goals in canon are not succeed. (Though his thieving are successful despite the fact he doesn't get far with this items, usually given them to Mayura before he escapes.) Mostly this is because his first goal is to keep Loki in Midgard, though he doesn't seem particularly interested in that so he doesn't take it seriously. The other is to win Mayura's heart, which Mayura doesn't seem to notice very well.
For the most part Freyr is a joke character, every so often he might say something mysterious and serious, or even look the part, but it never lasts. He's very easy going and self absorbed and doesn't pay a whole lot of attention to things he doesn't personally care about. (Though he may remember them somewhere down the line.)
We do get to see a slightly more serious and capable Freyr later in the series, but those chapters have not been translated and I do not know the circumstances so I won't mention what it means here. If I were to guess it's simply aspects that coincide with the fact he is capable when he wants to be and puts his mind to it. He is a hero and a great warrior after all.
Strengths: One of Freyr's strengths is in his ability to be optimistic and pursue his beliefs and desires without letting others get in his way. In fact no matter what other people say or do it won't change his mind once he's decided on something. His conviction is something to be admired in this respect. This is best illustrated in his pursuit of Mayura, who no matter what he doesn't give up on despite the fact she obviously doesn't think of him in a romantic way like he does of her.
He is also known for being rather skilled as a warrior and the best at Runes out of all the gods. Even Loki who is known for his skill with Runes states that Freyr surpasses him in that regard.
Freyr's imagination is also quite amazing and considering his "inventing" skill only works because of his imagination it's a great asset. Since his inventions do not work based on what they are made of but rather what they are intended to do this means the more creative Freyr was when making it the better it will work, as the only thing that allows them to function is the power of a god.
Freyr is immensely positive and rarely is held down for long. Even when he's feeling low it doesn't last long. Of course some of this could be the fact he seems to have an incredibly short attention span. Frequently he will change moods or abandon topics simply because Mayura walked by. In fact in vol 7 he decides to stay in Midgard, despite having planned to leave soon, simply because he saw Mayura and still wanted to pursue her.
Weaknesses: Freyr despite being considered a great warior and user of magic as well as inventor and other things, is not the brightest person around. It's debatable how much of this is true lack of intelligence and how much of it is severe lack of anything near common sense. However in the end he is slow to realize things, is incredibly oblivious and gets confused easily. Though despite this he seems to be one of the few gods on Midgard (out of Loki, Thor, Freya and Heimdall) to know something happened to Odin to change him. A good example of his lacking the ability to figure simple things out is a trick Loki set up once while he was acting like a phantom Thief. Loki put a tedybear in a boc with a mirror on one side so it would look like it was floating. Freyr thought this was something with magnets and was desperate to know how it was done. It also took him several meetings with Loki to realize that child Loki and adult Loki were the same Loki he was suppose to be finding.

First Person:
Freyr hadn't been expecting a vacation, Freyr has very important work on Midgard after all.
[Not that he had been very focused in that "important work" before.]
But Freyr doesn't mind! It's sort of fun, and very nice looking. The wings are also a nice touch, very fairytale, though they should do something more than sit there and be pretty. Like fly, or be used as a defensive shield. If they were bigger it would be better. In fact, now that Freyr thinks about it, he could make a pair of wings that served a better function. They would be massive! Allow the user to fly, defend against attack, shoot lasers, have a GPS, an LED screen, a quantum clock....
Yes! Inspiration! Freyr shall invent a pair of wings that are the best wings ever!
[Hopeless to try and talk him out of it now.]
Maybe Freyr will make more than one and share them with people who are interested.
Third Person:
When Freyr woke up in the forest he was very confused. In fact confused was probably an understatement for how he felt, he was beyond confused, he was completely lost. Of course he noticed right away that there was something different and wrong with him, not the wings, but he knew he did not feel right. He couldn't quite place it though, that feeling of wrongness that settled in the back of his mind. If he had thought about it more it probably would have come to him, his godhood was no longer there. His magic and power was now different than it was. But he didn't, instead he got distracted by the forest and animals and his surroundings.
"Freyr doesn't remember coming here, but it's a very pretty place," he was speaking to himself, but it sounded more like he was speaking to someone not there. Or perhaps he was just speaking to anyone who might be close by.
It was a while later before he even noticed the book, but he did notice it before walking away, however he noticed it before the wings.... At first he wasn't particularly interested, but it slowly nagged at him. Why was there a book there? What was in the book? Was this going to be like one of those fairy tales where you open the odd out of place thing and end up in a magical story land?
He paused staring at it for a moment, a serious expression on his face as if he were observing caution, but then he shrugged sat down and flipped it open. Nothing happened, he was partially disappointed.
"Freyr found someones journal?" he blinked a bit as he glanced over the page. It was only a few lines before he turned away from it and held it as far away as he could. "To pry into someones personal feelings! To read their dark secrets! Freyr shouldn't, it would be an invasion of privacy!" but it only took a moment for him to start reading it again. It wasn't written very well, it was like a bunch of people were using the book together. What a ridiculous journal. How would a diary like that get published later? No one would read it.
After a while he noticed that the first page was blank. Why would anyone make the first page blank? Maybe they wanted a title. Well since it seemed like a collaborative work Freyr could easily give a wonderful title, he just needed a pen....
Where were his pants? For that matter were where his clothes?
"Was Freyr violated without even knowing it!?" He shrieked. But in the next moment noticed the pants near by.
It would take a while for him to get used to things....

Another example of his over exaggerated romanticism is his falling in love with Mayura, Loki the main characters assistant, at first sight. He decides from this one off encounter that she is the perfect Japanese woman and from that moment on (despite learning her name and hearing it many times) calls her Yamato Nadeshiko. He is determined to steal her heart and marry her. He pretty much forgot everything else he was doing after this, which was pretty much one of the first things that happened after he was introduced.
Besides having ridiculous ideas of romanticism and defining his life as if he were living a play or was a character in a fictional novel Freyr is also pretty air headed. It's hard to say if he's outright stupid, because he is capable of some clever things (though perhaps creative is the more appropriate word for it), however lots of simple things confuse him, he is quick to distraction and seems to be incapable of taking anything very serious for very long. On the other hand he will take stupid things no one should seriously and can't let go of it. The only thing he does take legitimately serious is his sister Freya and her safety. But even then he has shown to forget about her and his worry about her frequently.
Originally Freyr teamed up with Heimdall who was ordered by Odin to put a Rune on Loki so he could not return to Asgard and pretty much make Loki's life hell and horrible. But this was all Heimdall's idea as there was a grudge between them. Odin also ordered Heimdall to deal with Loki. Freyr's only concern was the fact that Freya was said to be on Earth somewhere and potentially a target of Loki's. Worried that his precious sister would get corrupted by the trickster god he wanted to find her and save her before Loki could do something wrong.
In the end Freya is fine (and is in love with Loki so she doesn't like people attacking him), Freyr the moment he sees she's okay is fine with it and then carries on as usual. It was pretty much a "Oh hey there you are Freya, I'm glad you're okay! Now back to stalking Yamato Nadeshiko and being a Phantom Thief!" which sums up his general flow of personality pretty well.
There are a few moments later in the Ragnarok part of the series where he is shown to be more aware of Odin plans than everyone else, he seems to not agree with whatever Odin is up to, but follows his orders anyway. These are the moments where we really do see more than the fumbling fool.
On a day to day basis Freyr is pretty friendly and polite. He won't bother people if he thinks they are busy, he won't be intrusive (unless he's stealing something as a phantom thief), and he won't do things to upset people, at least willfully. (His personality however is one that has a tendency to irritate but he's not acting that way on purpose.) He values his word over everything else and is rather honest for someone who's decided to take a thief role.
