Applications
PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!
Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!
PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!
nagato yuki | suzumiya haruhi series | reserved | 2/3
❝It is difficult to convey in words. Discrepancies may arise during the transmission of date. Regardless, listen.❞
— Yuki Nagato, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
When people first meet Nagato, the obvious is for certain: she is not exactly an ordinary human. This isn't only because she is an "alien" - or a humanoid interface created by the Data Overmind - but also because, as Nagato says, there is an "absence of universally accepted personality traits."
But what exactly does this mean? Well, if you know the fact that Nagato's a humanoid interface created by the Data Overmind, then you might know that Nagato was actually created to have certain traits. This is only because her so-called head honcho believes that a stereotypical literary club members (which is what Nagato initially was in the beginning of the series) have to be a quiet, reserved, gloomy girl who simply remained in the corner reading books.
However, that cliché isn't all that there is to Nagato. Being a humanoid interface means that she has a job - and that job is to "observe Suzumiya Haruhi," because that girl may have the potential for autoevolution. Unlike Ryoko Asakura (her backup), who is peppy and cheery and actually disobeyed any commands, Nagato is pretty much obedient to her creator. And to Kyon, too, since, after all, he is the guy that Haruhi Suzumiya "chose".
In the light novels, Nagato is described multiple times as a doll, prop, or a piece of furniture that came with the clubroom. It's because Nagato's presence is barely there most of the time. Kyon states that her voice is practically easy to forget, which in turn means that Nagato too, is easily forgotten, left in the shadows.
The reason why the robot-like girl is easily forgotten (or at least, in Kyon's head) is because she doesn't speak or do much. She reads because that is what a Literary Club member is supposed to do. She follows Haruhi's orders because that is what a SOS Brigade member is supposed to do. She keeps her identity a secret because that is what a humanoid interface is supposed to do. Basically, she does what she's told and only says what is necessary. Most of the time, she gives one-word answers because it is unnecessary to give any opinion on the matter or waste time saying more than just that.
But it's because of this fact why she broke down and attempted to change the world to begin with. Because she wasn't allowed to express any emotion of anger - because she couldn't disobey orders. She had to suffer through Endless Eight over 15,000 times without saying or doing anything. She had to protect Kyon when something dangerous was about to happen.
However, even though Nagato is supposed to be emotionless - she does actually have human emotions. Of course, the humanoid interface does not know how to describe them and doesn’t explicitly understand them. In “Disappearance”, she calls emotions in general “errors” or “bugs”. Even in the beginning of the series, in “Melancholy”, Kyon states that Nagato would consider rational human thought as “noise” - if only because humans are not exactly rational creatures.
Speaking of human emotions, Nagato actually shows most of her joy and excitement when it comes do doing things on the computer. Kyon states that she actually has fun playing games, though this may not necessarily be true (mostly because the story is written in an objective first person point of view), but she does definitely seem a lot different when she's using the computer.
So basically, Nagato is a very unusually quiet girl who does show some emotion every once in a while. However, people have to get to know her very well in order to actually notice the slight changes that appear on Nagato's face. Mostly because those changes are very minute, small.
Strengths:
Physical:
• Nagato is difficult to defeat in hand-to-hand combat or in general. Being a humanoid interface means that she is practically a 'robot'. She can actually repair herself on her own. She has done this during "Melancholy", where she got stabbed by Asakura in the chest (which could be considered a fatal blow), but managed to survive it. And even speak while having the large stick in her chest.
• She hardly gets sick at all. The only reason why Nagato would get sick is because someone has sabotaged her link with the Data Overmind or with Nagato herself. This was explained in "Surprise" as well as the "Rampage".
• Nagato is an athlete, but not in the conventional sense. She uses quantum leaps and teleportation to be the second place runner during the athletic festival.
• In Endless Eight, it is proven that Nagato can hold her breath for long periods of time.
Mental:
• Nagato managed to withstand over 500+ years of repeating the same events over and over during Endless Eight. Of course, she does note that within each loop there were some slight changes, thought small.
• Her memory is excellent. Nagato remembers everything that occurs in Endless Eight, something that all the other brigade members do not recall. She actually remembers everything to the slightest detail. If you ask her to describe an event, she will most likely be ridiculously descriptive.
• Intelligent. Maybe too intelligent. She knows how to explain the concept of everything, even though it may be a little too complicated for certain people. She's pretty much scientific. She does explain her identity very well during "Melancholy", but the terms that she uses confuses Kyon because he's not as smart as she is.
Emotional:
• Nagato is practically calm, cool and collected. In "Disappearance", Koizumi says that she has a a "calm demeanor" and it is that what saved Kyon.
• Cares about
her friendsthe brigade. She would put her life on the line for them because they are 'important' to both her and her head honcho. But she mostly protects Kyon because he's the most important person in this series, deal with it.• A good liar. At least, when she has to. Though most of the time she just leaves things out that aren't necessary.
Weaknesses:
Physical:
• Nagato can get a cold - though it is rare. She has to be hacked into, which is difficult. So if there are any people who are techies (and ridiculously good techies) may be able to cause Nagato to have a cold.
• She's not as fast as Haruhi. We actually don't know if this is because Nagato was holding back or because she's actually not as fast as Haruhi is.
• The Data Overmind is practically in control of Nagato. Which means that they can decide whether or not Nagato stays on Earth, "dies", etcetera.
• Also, Nagato isn't as powerful as she was in "Disappearance", and her powers are limited.
Mental:
• Because of the stress that Haruhi has put Nagato through (and as well as the fact that she has to protect Kyon), Nagato's mental state forced her to change the world.
• Doesn't understand the concept of "emotions". She knows what they are, but she doesn't believe that they apply to her. She considers them as "errors" or "bugs".
Emotional:
• Has a lack of personality traits, as said in the beginning of Melancholy. Which pretty much means that she is unable to express herself in the way that she should be able to.
• She can snap, though she does it so calmly it's... scary.
