Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Re: Sally Donovan | Sherlock | Personality

[personal profile] cop_an_attitude 2012-03-01 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: While canon doesn’t provide an overabundance of information on Sally, her few appearances do make some things very clear. Sally respects the law and seeks to do good, as evidenced by her position as a police sergeant. She is willing to question or challenge authority if she sees reason to, but not without cause, and is very persistent; see The Reichenbach Fall when she persuades her superior officer to bring in his own friend for questioning in regards to a serious crime. She can become indignant when ordered to do something at the behest of someone she dislikes - in The Great Game, she’s told to take a blood sample in for testing because Sherlock, whom she deeply distrusts, wants it done, and is visibly annoyed. (This may also be because being made to leave the crime scene to perform a menial task is something she considers below her station as a sergeant and - seemingly - her boss’s second-in-command.) However, she does it anyway; she’s willing to uphold the law and trust in her boss’s orders despite her misgivings. Though Sally respects the law and her orders, she isn’t always a moral person. She takes pleasure in incriminating her enemy in a serious crime, and she slept with a married man at least once, knowing that he was already involved. However, she takes her job seriously and is bold and intelligent enough to have ascended the ranks of London PD. And ultimately, she cares about keeping people safe: on more than one occasion, she warns John away from Sherlock because she fears - within reason - that Sherlock is or may be a genuinely bad person, and she wants John to stay away from Sherlock for his own safety. She also displays genuine sympathy and concern for a pair of kidnapped children.

Re: Sally Donovan | Sherlock | Strengths

[personal profile] cop_an_attitude 2012-03-01 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Strengths: Sally has an iron will: she won’t back down from a man (Sherlock) she considers to be a dangerous psychopath, and even goes so far as to casually taunt him. When it seems that Sherlock has committed a serious crime, she manages to convince her boss to take him in for questioning, even though he considers Sherlock a friend. She is a skilled policewoman, as evidenced by the fact that she’s a sergeant - and seemingly her boss’s second-in-command - at around age thirty, and though she was ultimately incorrect, she made several sound deductions about an intricate case based on the information presented in The Reichenbach Fall. Sally is determined to uphold the law, but she also cares about other people as human beings: she shows concern for the safety and well-being of others, though she takes care to remain detached, probably for professional reasons. She also seems deeply sympathetic and stricken when she comes across a pair of sick, abducted children. She’s good at reading people she doesn’t know very well: in The Reichenbach Fall, when someone taunts John, Sally seems to automatically understand that the remark had been past John’s limit, and looks to John in shocked understanding that he is about to overreact.

Re: Sally Donovan | Sherlock | Weaknesses

[personal profile] cop_an_attitude 2012-03-01 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Weaknesses: Sally is given to jealousy and has a vengeful streak. Sherlock is a genius and quite rude, and tends to make people feel both inferior and insulted; Sally is callous toward him, and ultimately takes a few details and runs away with them a bit when incriminating him in a serious crime. Her evidence was justifiable, but she takes the time to gloat over it with great pride and alacrity. She takes pleasure in insulting and degrading people she doesn’t like, if she thinks they deserve it, and while she does seem embarrassed and guilty upon being discovered, she did conduct an affair with a married man. Sally can also be insubordinate in manner if not in action: she’s visibly put out when her boss asks something of her in The Great Game.

First Person: Oi! What's this, then? I'm Sergeant Sally Donovan of London PD and if this is some sort of practical joke, I'll have you know I'm in no mood for nonsense. Whovever did this, I'll have you arrested for harassment of an officer, but if you come forward now, I'll save us both the trouble and let you off without jail time, yeah? Just explain to me where the hell I am and...and I'll...

Where am I, really? I'd love to know, but if the state of things in this part of town is anything like it is back in London, I'll get a straight answer sometime after I'm dead.

I really don't appreciate waking up in the woods in clothes that aren’t mine and knowing it isn't my fault, you know. Someone is going to answer for this!

Third Person: Sally woke up in the woods with a pounding headache and no idea how she’d gotten there, which hadn’t happened since she’d been seventeen.

Confused, a little thirsty, and harboring the horrible suspicion that she was late for work, Sally propped herself into a sitting position and looked around. Her surroundings were wooded and pleasant and all-around totally unthreatening, but the sense of foreboding wouldn’t go away, probably because she was supposed to be in bed at her house - and what on earth was she wearing? Sally had never owned a loose-fitting white dress in her life. Alarmed, now, Sally clambered to her feet and scanned her surroundings with her most critical and penetrating eye.

There. Her clothes; her proper clothes. Sally scrambled at them, pulling on her trousers and cursing quietly at the buttons of her shirt, because she was entirely certain this wasn’t meant to be happening. She was meant to be at home, groggily eating cereal and brushing her hair and finding clean knickers because she hadn’t done the laundry for a month due to all the overtime she’d been putting in and not being in a bloody forest--

Keep calm, Sally, she told herself, keep calm. There had to be - there was always - an explanation. She’d be drugged. She’d gotten so drunk, somehow, that she’d forgotten the previous day. She’d been knocked about the head. She was dreaming.

Most of Sally’s consciousness was voting for dreaming, on the off chance that hoping as hard as possible would make any difference.

Sally fingered her badge, having found it in her shirt pocket - comforting, if useless in this environment - and then gripped it hard, squeezing her eyes shut to decide her next course of action.

She heard water, somewhere off to the west. They always told you to follow the water in nature documentaries, right?

Still a bit dizzy with shock, Sally pulled herself together and followed the sound of the stream.
