Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Re: Red | Pokemon Special | Reserved

[personal profile] bravefighter 2012-03-01 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: "Pokemon Trainer. Someone who spends his life with, trusts, and is trusted by his Pokemon." A phrase that was nearly long forgotten, Blaine suddenly remembered it when he saw Red, with his Pokemon. It's not a trait most trainers are shown with, but it was quickly revealed in Red's actions. He trusts his Pokemon, and in return, they trust him. It doesn't stop with just Pokemon either. Red is a very trusting individual in general, and it's shown fairly often. Even if he's left with a former enemy, and forced to work together with them, he'll trust them still. He even trusts a suspicious character when they first meet, believing that she isn't up to anything evil.

Red was given the title "Fighter" from Professor Oak. This is due to the fact of his instinctual fighting style, which is described in the series as Red being "Born with a sense for battle." He's very quick on his feet, and quick to think, while he's battling. Towards the end of the Red/Blue/Green arc, Professor Oak mentions that Red and Green compliment each other. They exchanged some battle traits, since when Red starts out, he's very brash while battling. It's shown later that he becomes very level headed and calm while he battles, or even in most situations, when before he would act without thinking. Green's influence over him eventually secured the fact that Red actually backed his instinctual battling style with his intellect, and hence made his battling style increase tenfold.

While battling, he has a few other quirks, as well. He's very determined and focused when he's fighting, and even if there's not a chance of winning, he chooses to continue to fight. Even with no chances, he's always relatively calm and level-headed about it, and hence, can make a comeback. Another thing about his battling style is that he always plays fair, even if someone doesn't. Giovanni knocks out one of his Pokemon, and then gives himself a handicap, but Red decided to take that handicap too, stating how he wanted to make it a fair fight. Against any adversary, he likes the battle to be even. He even states how there's no fun in fighting an enemy that's weakened. Despite all this, he takes after Green, and knows his limits with battling. So even if there's no chance of winning, if he thinks there's a chance, he'll take it. This is shown in his final battle with Giovanni, where he doesn't stop trying. Deoxys even remarks, "You just keep going. You never gave up. Not even when you're driven into a corner or injured all over!" He just never gives up or gives in, no matter the circumstances.

As a kid, he was a lot more forward about his abilities. He brags, boasts, and shows off to anyone that will listen. As he starts to get older, however, he starts to get more modest, and even awkward about his abilities. It's not that he thinks lowly of his abilities, though, but that there's no real point in showing off. The only way to determine how strong someone truly is is to battle them and find out yourself, after all, so he decides to follow that state of being. Something that never changes though, is his feelings about his friends. No matter what, he's always looking out for their well-being. As a result, he doesn't stand for his friends being wronged, shown when he jumps off the handle about Blue not being able to meet her parents, going after the person who caused it to happen. Though, as soon as something about relationships or girls pops up, he gets fairly embarrassed. That's also something that changed from his childhood, where he was always trying to impress and show off around girls.

A basic synopsis of Red would be that he's happy-go-lucky, optimistic, and sociable. He makes friends fairly easily, and keeps them around easily. He's also a very reliable and dependable person, almost always getting what he says he's going to do done. Another trait about him is that he's very heroic, even going on a seemingly self-sacrificial mission at the end of Fire Red/Leaf Green to help a town from a crashing airship, that he had to steer away. He sent Yellow and Mewtwo off the ship, though, not wanting them to get hurt.

Strengths: Red has a typical level of physical, mental, and emotional strength for a human. There's not much different about him being a human, other than his ability to take a bunch of hits and still keep going. He's had his back smashed by a rock and he was still able to keep going, but that's just a protagonist power.

Combat wise, he's the best battler of the Pokedex Holders, Green being second closest to him. He's constantly shown as the best of them, battling wise, and was the Champion of the Kanto Pokemon League, for a bit. He even passes his Gym Aptitude Test with more than enough time.

Though, just because he's the battler, that doesn't mean he's great at fighting on his own. He can throw a punch and the like, but he mainly fights with his Pokemon! The three Pokemon he's going to be bringing with him are Poli the Poliwrath, Saur the Venusaur, and Pika the Pikachu. They are the Pokemon that have been with him the longest, and they went through the most together.

All of his Pokemon have very handy moves, as well. The Pokemon in Special are a bit different than the games, though, and seem to know all of their moves, instead of just four. Poli has Water Gun, Ice Beam, Seismic Toss, DoubleSlap, Double Team, Focus Punch, and Mind Reader. The main move he seems to use, even outside of battle, is Ice Beam. He uses it to cross a river on his bike, lay traps, and various other things. Despite Poli being a water Pokemon, he can't surf on it, though, and will most likely just use him as a flotation device if necessary.

Saur was the Pokemon that Professor Oak gave him, and was his first Pokemon other than Poli. Saur has plenty of moves, as well. Vine Whip, Solar Beam, Poison and Sleep Powder, Leech Seed, Razor Leaf, Cut, and Sweet Scent. The main move that is used is Frenzy Plant, though. Frenzy Plant is Saur's ultimate attack, and is extremely powerful.

Pika is Red's iconic Pokemon. He's shown with it often, just like Red from gameverse, and Ash from the anime. As a result, Pikachu is one of his strongest Pokemon. Its moveset is Thundershock, Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Toxic, Substitute, Surf, Bide, Rage, Iron Tail, and finally Volt Tackle. Volt Tackle is Pika's ultimate attack, and the strongest of his moves, just like Saur's Frenzy Plant. Pika is probably used in battle the most, despite it not being the highest level, and is used in almost all the final battles.

Weaknesses: Red is just a normal human being. As a result, he has the normal weaknesses a human have, physically mentally and emotionally. Anything that is normally fatal to a human is fatal to Red. He can't magically stop bullets and the like. He gets hurt just like every other human does, with less of a fatality rate because of being a protagonist. There's not much different there at all.

The only notable sign of weakness that he showed was in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc. When Lorelei froze his wrists and ankles, it left major harm on his joints. He struggled to move his wrists and ankles, to the point that it was painful. Something as simple as water could aggravate the injury, and cause his legs to go out from under him. This is shown in his Gym Aptitude Test, when the enemy floods the battle zone and causes Red to fall on one knee. As a result of this handicap, he felt as if he wasn't suited to become a Gym Leader, and rejected his acceptance. This weakness was already fixed by the end of the arc, however, when he went to Mt. Silver and rested in the hot springs there.

Another thing that could technically be listed as a weakness would be how protective he is of his friends. A lot of the time, if his friends are in danger, or were hurt in some way, he jumps straight into the fray. This can be either a good or bad thing. When Green was fighting Koga, Red ran straight into the room and right into a trap. So this seems bad, if he's brash and doesn't think when his friends are in danger, but it also caused enough of a distraction for Green to get a hit in on Koga. The other time this happens is when Blue didn't get to meet her parents, and when Red finds out who caused this to happen, he rushes into the fight without a second thought. This causes him to get nearly hit by an explosion. In that moment, it feels like it would be a weakness. He doesn't tend to think when it comes to his friends in danger.

Samples (ALL samples must be set in Luceti-verse.)

First Person:

[Waking up in a weird place? Check.

Waking up with only pants on? Check.]

What the heck is going on? [Red sat up scratching at the back of his head, taking a glance around. Well, at least his clothes are right there. And... huh? A book... He picks it up, flipping through it.] I mean, all of this is really weird, but... Jeez.

[Well. Time to change back into his clothes! Swapping out those pants, putting on his socks and shoes, before--] --Hey! Where the heck are my pokeballs?!

[That is definitely not cool. He's glances around, panicked, before--] Okay, I just gotta think... How'd I manage to get here? [He couldn't remember anything odd, anyway. Or anyone that would take his clothes off like that.] Man... none of this is making any sense.

[Okay, next plan! Time to get dressed fully. Putting on that undershi-- whoa what.]

Wh... What's on my back... ? [Reaching back, and-- Oh god. Feathers... ?] H-Huh?! What happened?! Why do I have-- [Flutter flutter...] wings...

[Okay. No shirt for now. First thing's first, we are looking for our pokemon and some god damn answers. Hat on means adventure mode begins!] Okay! Time to figure out what's going on in this place!

[Or, well...] ... As soon as I figure out which way to go, anyway...

[... Hmm...]

Whatever, let's just go this way! [Off in a random direction! With his shirt and vest in hand.]

Third Person: Wandering around this place wasn't too bad, once Red got used to it. It was somewhat peaceful, and reminded him a bit of Viridian City. A small town, surrounded by a forest. It wasn't quite the same, but it still gave him a calming feeling of nostalgia every time he passed through. It was the closest thing to anything like home, and it was always relaxing. He would often take walks through here, either looking for a challenge, or just to walk.

The battle dome was good for challenges, after all, and the other Pokedex holders that were here were also good for practicing. Even if he was searching for challengers, he always knew where to find one. It was just a force of habit. There were so many challengers back home, even after he stopped being the Champion, so it was just a normal part of life for him. That habit was hard to break, and he always expected for someone to just appear and challenge him. Eyes lock, and the battle would usually begin. It wasn't the same here.

In fact, it really was just relaxing here. To take a line from someone else, "Nothing amazing happens here." Or, well, that wasn't always correct. There were experiments, and various other things that were common occurrences, but there was plenty of off time. Even when he discovered he had these wings, it wasn't too big of a deal. Well, it was, but it was quickly gotten over. He was more focused on finding his Pokemon, when he first arrived. His friends, his partners, his family. They were the most important thing, that he had to find. Once he did, that was about it! Finding the other Dex holders was also an excellent surprise. Hence, life here wasn't so bad. He had everything he needed, after all, and there wasn't that many conflicts here.

It was peaceful.

I'll take Q&A for 300, Alex Kyo.

1. What would you call your greatest strength? My greatest strength... ? Well, uh... Battling! It's what I'm best at, anyway!

2. Name three of your most favorite memories. My three favorite memories, huh? Well... one of them is definitely when I found Poli! Ever since then, we've been inseparable. I think seein' Mew for the first time is up there, too! Man, that was neat. Another one has gotta be me winning the League Tournament! That battle against Green was a blast.

3. Do you have a dream, or something you want to accomplish? What is it? To fill up the Pokedex! That, and maybe run a gym someday. My wrists are better now, so I think I could do it. I just gotta wait for an opening.

4. What is more important: friendship or power? Friendship, without a doubt! Even if you have power, it doesn't mean you won't be lonely.

5. What's your opinion on species unlike your own? Do you treat them the same, or differently? Are they less important than your own kind or on equal standing? Huh? Like how do I treat my Pokemon... ? Well... just as well as I treat anyone else! They're my friends, after all. Why would I wanna treat them any differently than that? They're definitely as important as anyone else!

6. You're on the magnet train which is heading west at 120 MPH from Saffron City. At what time does it SUDDENLY CRASH INTO THE BRICK WALL SOMEONE PLACED ON THE TRACK?! That sounds awfully familiar... Suddenly, a Snorlax blocks the train!!

7. So, Red, how do you feel about Yellow? I mean, really, really feel. Let's be honest, just you and me, total bros here. H-Hey, what kinda question is this... ?
