Applications
PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!
Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!
PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!
White | Pokemon Black and White (gameverse) | Reserved
Name: White (a renamable protagonist, but for the sake of delicious IC confusion, I'll be calling her White)
Fandom: Pokemon Black and White (gameverse)
Gender: Female
Age: 14, headcanon/based on assumed Special age
Time Period: Post-game, with the assumption she's done basically everything there is to do in-game, including the Battle Subway
Wing Color: A very pristine and glossy white, of the type that looks pretty and refractive in the sunlight
History: The article on game!Hilda, and the article on Black and White, which should summarize the game and the player's role in it when combined. If I need to include any fill-in-the-blanks headcanon, let me know, and I shall write up a more thorough recap!
Personality: (Worth noting that White is a silent protagonist -- which, in turn, makes her a bit of a canon OC with some pasted-on traits from the game. While her history is the same, her personality is almost completely up to interpretation, and my particular adaptation of her didn't change the core plot of the game or the actions she took to participate, simply the things she may have thought and felt about it.)
Sometimes, fate is a cruel and dangerous mistress to be playing around with, but generally not for White. She's always plunged into important matters headfirst, without hesitation -- while not downright reckless and not beyond thinking before she acts, she is assertive and capable, a very motivated and in-control individual who will occasionally go to great, sometimes ridiculous lengths to accomplish her goals. Her emotions are strong, and she feels incredibly deeply at all times -- when she is depressed, it is a deep, black depression; when she is enthusiastic, it is a sincere, passionate enthusiasm. She is a girl who does things with all her heart, and harbors few regrets about her actions. With her friends, if they can't stand the spotlight and aren't prepared to stand by her no matter what seemingly impossible nightmares may lie in her future, then they are generally encouraged to back out ASAP, and she won't lie to anyone about this, either.
Unafraid to speak her mind and confident in her abilities, White often comes across as an independent woman who doesn't bother with second thoughts or self-doubts. She's almost always honest and straightforward with her words, which the people she surrounds herself with seem to respect along with her emotional tenacity. It's hard not to be friends with her; unless someone makes a particular effort to get in her way or antagonize her, she will reach out to them with a warm regard, despite any lack of basis for doing so. With the sole exception of Ghetsis, for whom she has a very strong dislike because that jackass crossed the line twenty times over, she seems naturally comfortable around people, even going so far as to be concerned about total strangers. It turns out she's very sensitive to the feelings of others, and compassionate to what is quite probably a fault in some way. With people like Ghetsis, however, she seems to have difficulty letting things go, least of all a grudge against someone who has wronged her, personally or impersonally. It was not a slowly-formed, knee-jerk first impression, however, and let it be known she's not above making people who have crossed her pay, if she deems it necessary.
At the same time, White, Bianca, and Cheren have a very open and honest relationship, and can seem more like a trio of siblings than mere childhood friends, sometimes bickering with each other and sometimes protective of one another. She's also extremely fond of N, whom she respects and admires but also feels inexplicably responsible for and wants to support. The passion she applies to her Pokemon training is especially unusual; she tries to give each of her Pokemon individual attention and make sure none of them feel left out, and trusts them with perhaps more things than she would trust to even Bianca and Cheren. She takes it very hard when she can't help others, and often refuses to give up on them, to just let things die; one can imagine how hurt she must be when others around her, the people she cares about, have problems that can't be solved. In life in general, trust is very important to White, and she likes to keep her friends on equal footing with her as much as possible (except, of course, when it comes to Pokemon battling, as Cheren has found the hard way). In the same vein, if someone is beginning to wear her normally-durable trust thin or never earned it to begin with, it's not uncommon for her to start getting suspicious of them for one reason or another.
She isn't quite as intellectual as some of her friends (N and Cheren, specifically), but when she actually uses what she learns, she's a force to be reckoned with. White is by no means ditzy or dumb, and indeed likes to learn new things; although she tends to think with her heart over her head more often than not and can be stubborn and difficult to budge from one set decision, her choices are made completely without regret or second thought. She has moments revealing a more introspective and curious side of herself, showing that she actually thinks quite a lot and has some startling insight, especially in regard to human nature and behavior; she simply appears to prefer bonding with others heart-to-heart than impressing them with her dazzling wit. Her strength is not in intellect, no, but rather in adaptation, with which she can enter into gym leader matches and come out little worse for wear after catching onto the strategy and patterns of the opponent, to pick up the knack of something after only a short period of experience, and to adjust to new situations. In addition to these talents, White has a nearly magnetic personality, making it hard for people to truly dislike her -- assuming, of course, she's not getting in the way of their evil deeds or anything.
White has a sense of humor and an odd love of mischief that presents itself occasionally, too. She's not above fooling around with friends in the least dignified way possible, and doesn't mind being silly with her best friends, at that. To her, there's no better way of being at ease and unguarded, just enjoying life. Usually, the teasing is very tame, though; she doesn't mind getting mildly physical (in fact, she tends to be quite touchy-feely with people she trusts), and isn't all that hesitant about using any femininity to rile anyone up, though it does not come up often. Romance in general is an almost sacred topic to her, even so; though she's pretty feminine in most ways, even in her zeal and drive to always do better than before, there's a part of her that adamantly refuses to judge people by gender like that or try to take advantage of it, and so she tries to view her friends as people, not as a male-this or a female-that. This is true of her Pokemon, as well, for she views them all on the same level as humans, a viewpoint only reinforced by her adventures in Unova.
White is unswervingly loyal and dedicated to her cause, and sometimes seems more like a force of nature than a mere human. In short, everything about her is warm, not cold, and that can often be an understatement. (If she ever goes cold, even for a moment, that means something is very, very wrong, and she will probably fuck your shit up in half a second if you don't act fast.) Though she is sometimes afraid of things greater than her that she feels she cannot handle or overcome, however rare those are, she covers for it by hiding behind cheer and unyielding determination. And truly, she appears to be very open and friendly on the surface, but this may not be entirely the case. When you watch White in action, she doesn't seem very relenting at all... but that's because there's another level to her. She likes everyone to think that she shares everything and has no secrets -- "what you see is what you get", that's the impression people get from White, of course, and it's always been that way. But inside there's a deeper layer, a more thoughtful layer, where she understands everything and wants to help people. She has a strong natural defense: instead of pushing everybody away so that they can't touch her innermost core, she seems to prefer to make friends with everybody, so that they all THINK they know her really well, while keeping that core, that little pearl of who she really is hidden. She is still innately honest, sometimes blunt, but is still able to hide her more insightful side impressively well. Even if she does not tell the whole truth, which is not actually all that uncommon as opposed to the worst alternative (lying outright), it can be difficult for her to live with the guilt of not being completely truthful with those who she's supposed to trust with everything. In the end, White is a good person, though -- she doesn't like hurting others, but can unintentionally wind up becoming the guilty party anyway by poor, miscalculated wording in high-emotion situations, or concealing something from someone else in an attempt to protect them.
Strengths:
+ Has drive and determination on par with the fieriest of shounen protagonists; might as well BE a shounen protagonist, if a significantly less dense one
+ Good at adapting to changes in environment and in circumstances, and can battle and think on the fly with that skill as well
+ Honest, forthright, and unwilling to lie; very friendly and emotionally tenacious
+ A compassionate, caring girl who would go out of her way to befriend anyone crossing her path who needed it
+ Basic survival skills, though it's all learned through trial and error over time
Weaknesses:
- Thinks with her heart over her head by default; a bit less of an intellect than Cheren or N, though by no means stupid or incapable of intelligent lines of thought
- That compassion mentioned above can make her a bit of a bleeding heart who can't stand to not help out sometimes, even when she shouldn't get involved
- Occasionally straightforward to the point of bluntness, sometimes even at precisely the wrong moment
- Has one or two moral and emotional struggles she still contends with; primarily, the issue of confining Pokemon in capsules from a different angle that N introduced to her, and a somewhat similar problem to what Cheren also encountered in her purpose of traveling and training
- Usually pretty good about this, but she can be a little inflexible regarding certain opinions differing from hers at times, if only internally; mostly involving how people train and care for their Pokemon, and their human friends to boot
