Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

nofancydos: (Intense Ho-oh action)

Green Oak | Pokemon Special | Reserved

[personal profile] nofancydos 2012-03-01 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Strengths:
Physically, he's surprisingly tough for a human being, which is common of most professional Pokémon trainers. He doesn't have physical strength so much as extreme physical resilience. He will hop onto the backs of his Pokémon in battle to help in his perception in battle.

He's very well trained to be very attuned to battle. He can use any and all of his senses to predict the enemy's movement, said to "read their mind", and is able to function when a sense is taken away. (1, 2, 3)

He's a quick thinker, and a tactical planner. His approach to a fight is very calculating and precise. (1)

He knows when he's outmatched. (1)

He never panics or cracks under pressure, and is always able to form a plan of action in an emergency or when he's seemingly trapped and helpless. (1, 2)

He's considered attractive and has a pretty good reputation. Much to his chagrin. (1, 2)

He's stubborn as all hell and never gives up.

Weaknesses:
He has no physical weaknesses notable for a human being, but he is still merely human.

He's not good at acting from his gut, often thinking and over-thinking in battle, for better or worse. He tends to fail in fighting against an enemy that fights by the seat of their pants or otherwise don't plan their own movements.

He keeps himself emotionally distant and objective, in most situations, which can be a detriment to Pokémon battling. Though Red curbed this through development, he still is rather ruthless. (1)

He's stubborn as all hell and never gives up.

First Person: Q&A
Third Person:
Though his introduction into Luceti was a relatively quiet and non-issue one, he was never the type to sit back and live a mundane lifestyle. He got anxious. Antsy. And the obvious solution, of course, was to begin training his Pokémon and himself again. There was just one problem he seemed to keep having. He couldn't find a place to train.

Green obviously knew better than to have his Pokémon running through town, but with severe verbal warning of a monstrous god-wolf in the forest, protecting it from harm, he didn't want to disrespect what could conceivably be a legendary Pokémon. At least, that's how Silver seemed to treat it. After noticing that he was being followed, he wasn't entirely keen on venturing the forest simply to train. But another thing Silver suggested, from some time back, was the Battle Dome. And it certainly was an interesting piece of equipment. But in the end, it wasn't enough. A simulation wasn't as good as the real thing.

Under the chilly, spring air at dawn, his gaze turned towards the rising figure in the distance. A grin spread across his face, as he made a decision. He'd go to the mountain to train. At the very least, that made his plan for the day a lot less aimless. With a plan in mind, Green's stride was more confident as he went to the stores, collecting supplies for his journey. He was careful to fill his bag with only the necessities, from rations for himself and his Pokémon to a couple of simple tools like a compass and map. He was set to leave, and had to return to House 11 for at least one change of clothes.

What he hadn't expected were, of course, people wanting to tag along. Oh, at first, it was fine. It was just Silver, after all. And he couldn't really leave Yellow shirking her duties in training. But somehow, it snowballed - soon, Gold had to come along, and even Falkner was thinking about it. And... and even Mewtwo was coming along! Green was left wondering how on earth he rallied up a caravan of people to travel into the mountains with him for Pokémon training.

But he found the right opportunity, not too long afterwards. As they were getting ready, Green went ahead without them, training in blissful solitude for several comfortable weeks.

Q&A
1. Who is the most important person in your life? Why?
My grandfather. There's a lot of honor in being an Oak, and it was for him that I started training.
2. How do you think you perform in a crisis?
It depends on what "crisis" means. I can handle any situation I get myself into.
3. Did you have a hero or a special role model while growing up? Describe them.
...My grandpa. He used to be a very powerful trainer, himself. I wouldn't call my former teacher, Chuck, a role model exactly. But I do respect him.
4. How much do you value power? What is the limit of what you'd do to possess it?
Power is important. But it's something to work hard towards, not to just take. That defeats the purpose of working towards it.
5. What's your opinion on species unlike your own? Do you treat them the same, or differently? Are they less important than your own kind or on equal standing?
You're talking about Pokémon? They're worth respect, because they have a strength in them that we count on every day.
6. So how much hair gel do you go through every morning to get your hair like that?
I don't spend much time on my hair.
7. So what are your dreams for the future? Do they involve become a professor and losing all credibility as a trainer? That's what Gary Oak did.
Daisy has been working to take over grandpa's business. It'd make me a waste of time and space to try and get involved.

Strengths:
-As a whole, his Pokémon are quite a bit like Green: all too serious, devoted to training, and independent thinkers. But unlike their trainer, they are very obedient and tend not to be trouble-makers on their own. They're well-trained enough to be left alone to work at the Gym, which is otherwise completely unheard of for trained Pokémon. Green's typical lineups have very excellent type coverage, and have a unique skill that makes them worth Green's time and effort.

-Scizor has been with Green since he was very young. Though extremely dangerous, it is as calm and cool-headed as its Trainer, perhaps resembling Green the most out of any of his Pokémon, as Aitaro and Poli resemble Gold and Red respectively. All things considered, for its species, Scizor is quite Docile.

-Charizard is a lot more energetic and Bold than most of Green's Pokémon. It's a little more aggressive, and a little more daring. Under Red's care, it is probably quite a reckless fighter, requiring Green's tutelage to keep it in check.

-Rhydon is a very Mild-mannered and obedient Pokémon, making it ideal for what Green was using it for: reading and learning that magnificent bastard Giovanni's book.

-Green uses his "sight" to combat multiple threats, including Agatha and Chuck, two of his most difficult and personal battles. His stubbornness worked in his favor in those battles, as well as his ability to emotionally detach himself to avoid acting reckless. His tactical precision is apparent when he fights both with and against Koga, who is himself a master of subtlety.

His lack of guttural, raw energy and passion is what keeps him on the sidelines while Red leads the charge. What he does instead is create the plan for Red to follow, and provide support, conceding to him when he knows that Red's the one who needs to take the wheel. "Know your limits", he said at the very beginning.
