Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Samples

First Person:  I shall require your finest sampling of Q&A

Third Person:
The first thing Harry noticed was that he wasn't at his apartment.
Of course not. My apartment was destroyed.
He struggled for a moment to remember where he'd gone to sleep, then finally his mind hit upon the Carpenter household.
This wasn't the Carpenter household. This wasn't any household. This was a... restaurant?
He sat up. Not a restaurant. A bar. He was in a booth at a bar. Not Mac's, either. The crowd around him was sort of boistrous, and...
Everybody has wings.
He reached around to his shoulder, and yes, he had them too. He sighed. That settled that. Clearly there'd been a clerical error and somebody had sent him to heaven after he died.
For a moment, he considered the possibility of simply finding the person in charge and lambasting them for managing Heaven as poorly as they had Earth. Of course, that would likely lead to the rectification of said error, and after the month he'd had, Hell was the last thing he wanted to deal with.
Finally, he decided to just listen to the sane, reasonable part of his mind. There were lots of explanations. The wings were probably fake. Some sort of themed costume party, maybe somebody had spiked his drink.
He reached back and felt the wings again. Feather, muscle, skin. Almost like the real thing. He was sort of impressed as he grasped a wing and attempted to tug it off.
He climbed into his seat, checking the table to make sure his head hadn't bled on it when he hit the corner as he fell. There wasn't, thankfully.
Note to self: Don't do that.
The pain, fortunately, was only slightly agonizing, and he was used to dealing with that by now. He was, however, receiving stares- not disturbed or alarmed, apparently, but concerned, which sort of surprised him.
I guess strangers just show up without shirts, try to pull their wings off, and smack their heads off of tables during the resulting spasms of pain often around here.
After a shrug and a half smile as if to say, 'who knows?' Harry stood up and went to the door, a hand moving down to hitch up his pants. They didn't fit properly. He could only assume it was meant to be humiliating.
When he got outside, it was incredibly cold, and he didn't have shoes or socks on. It was going to be a long walk to the nearest clothing store.
You've been taking arctic-cold showers your entire adult life and you're going to complain about a little barefoot walk in the park?
Having so chastised himself, he started walking toward what he hoped was the center of town.

Re: Q&A

1. If you could have any power what would it be?

Well, I dunno. Power is a mixed bag. Any power has a bad side, it comes with catches, restrictions, or consequences.

Which I guess means the best power to have would be to determine how much power I should seek out to help people without taking too much.

2. Do you have any regrets? If so, what are they?

I lost count somewhere in the realm of two or three billion. I regret Susan being turned into a vampire, I regret not being able to save Elaine from Justin sooner, I regret killing Justin, I regret not being able to save Morgan, I regret grabbing that damn coin instead of just grabbing little Harry away, I regret bringing Michael out to that island to get injured, I regret not catching Molly before she started casting black magic.

I regret not being there when my daughter was born.

... A lot of regrets, yes.

3. Do you have any fears? What are they? Why are you scared of them?

Biggest fear? Well, I dunno, spiders are pretty creepy. And clowns. What's up with those guys, man, what healthy person does that?

... I fear losing people. I fear being powerless to help them. I couldn't help Susan, couldn't help Michael, couldn't help Molly. I'm terrified of who I'll fail to help next.

4. What is your most valuable possession?

My car got blown up, my apartment got blown up, my net worth is somewhere in the realm of a rubber band, some pocket lint, and a few twinkie wrappers, and my office was destroyed. The valuable things in my possession- the Swords, for instance- don't belong to me. All I have are my magical tools, which can be replaced, and my mother's pentacle.

And my friends.

5. What is the most difficult thing you've ever done?

Tough question. Bringing my best friend's terrified teenaged daughter to a trial that was more likely than not to end in her being beheaded, that's certainly up there. Letting go after Susan was half-turned, moving on with my life, that was rough. Fighting a primordial spirit of evil. Seeing it with the True Sight. Killing a Faerie Queen who just wanted to help people, holding her as she died. Looking at Molly's victims. Watching the strongest woman I know have her power utterly robbed from her by the White King.

... Hell's bells, listen to me whine. Apparently the hardest thing I've ever had to do is shut up and deal with it? I dunno. This is me, shutting up.
