If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Re: Temperance Brennan | Reserved
To combat emotions, Temperance attempts to distance herself from everything around her – being very hesitant in relationships and in love. Between her turbulent past (parents leaving on Christmas Day, foster care, etc.) and still turbulent present (solving murders and discovering that her parents left to protect them from murderers they once new, etc), Brennan has a huge number of unresolved issues. She becomes very analytical of everything around her – to the point where she almost does come across as a sociopath, emotionless and devoid of basic human feelings. It is more of a coping mechanism rather than anything else – a way to cope with her life and a way to help her in a work. As a forensic anthropologist, Dr. Brennnan’s job is to use the bones and undistinguishable remains of the dead to identify the cadaver.
But a job like that forensic anthropology can be emotionally toiling, especially given the fact that she herself believes that she connects more with bones than actual people. She can “read” them and understand their lives better than the living people around her. Furthermore, as a result of working with the FBI, she has gotten out into the field more and more – and sees and deals with more than previously. That said, she does strive to connect with people. With the lack of a proper family growing up, she’s formed her own among her co-workers. But even then, she falters in proper societal interaction. And psychology, in her opinion, will never, ever be a hard science.
She comes across as blunt and matter-of-factual. It is not an attempt to be cruel, but mostly done because she does not know better unless someone (usually Booth) tells her otherwise. The world is very black and white to Brennan. She sees things at face value and does not feel the need to confirm to societal conformities. The world is one entire anthropological study to her and she feels no qualms in admitting to such. Because of this, she’ll ask inappropriate questions and make inappropriate statements. A part of this also comes from her desire to explain everything to those around her and quantify the world in scientific understanding. If there is no evidence of something, it cannot possibly exist. And you should never leap to conclusions. But the more time she has spent working at the Jeffersonian with Booth, the more time she has started to confront the shades of grey. She sees it in some of the cases she assists in solving, in accepting that a family does not just have to be a biological unit, in still caring for Zach despite the crimes he committed in helping a serial killer, and especially in setting herself up as a scapegoat to ensure her father’s success in his court case.
Still, she has made strides in personal communication. She now makes statements such as “I want to say the right thing, but I don’t know what it is,” indicative of her attempts to make strides to relate to her friends better. Usually, she goes to Angela or Booth for help in these matters. In addition, she has improved at knowing when to remain silent in certain situations, such as contradicting Booth’s faith when within a church – a skill taught to her yet again by her partner and her best friend. Still, a good 90% of the time, she still cannot help but correct someone.
If Brennan has faith in anyone or anything, it would be in her personal trust of Seeley Booth. Booth is her partner, a man she was sexually attracted to upon their first meeting and a man she both lets in more than anyone else and yet pushes away all at the same time. They make an excellent team, as both have often noted amongst themselves, Booth’s intuition balancing Brennan’s scientific analysis. Despite their differences, they are truly a case of opposites attracting: forming a strong friendship by the end of the first season that deepens into love. But Brennan needs Booth in her life perhaps a little too much. She cannot admit to herself – or anyone else – how she feels and denies the prospect of Booth being interested in her. It’s safer that way: so longer as she does not take a chance on Booth as something more than a friend and partner, she will not lose him.
As an expert in her field, Bones can be very controlling. Things have to be done her way and she does not appreciate interference. She also needs to be able to protect herself; she takes various martial arts classes and will quickly react if someone touches her without her permission. Brennan also has a thing for guns, probably also relating to the need to protect herself. While she considers life sacred, she will willingly shoot someone to protect herself or those important in her life – or even on occasion shoot rats or dogs to protect her evidence, making her somewhat trigger happy.
She does not appreciate newspapers and what she considers a sensationalism of crimes. If it’s not found within the pages of Journal of Forensic Anthropology – or, really, any text book of any sort – it’s not that important. Bones does not get most pop culture references, especially anything that would occur after her parents left. She’s been noted to watch old movies with her father as a child and that is where most of her entertainment knowledge comes from. She does like music, however, and tends to dance between being culturally relativistic and utterly closed minded. Religion and faith, for example, are absolutes in her mind: there is no evidence to support “myths” in the bible or the existence of god, but in a subject matter like sexual taboos, she can be very much the open to understanding of why a person or culture would engage in certain activities – subjects, in general, that do not cause her to question.
To date, Temperance remains a bestselling author, writing fictional novels of a forensic anthropologist, and very good at juggling both parts of her professional life. But by the end of season five, the accumulation of all the evils she had witnessed begin to really wear her down. She wants a break from dealing with murder every day. In addition, she needs space from Booth. Specifically, this need of space results from a session with Sweets causes Booth to rethink their relationship and suggest taking a chance. Brennan is unable to cope with taking such a chance and even argues that Booth needs to be protected from someone like her – unable to share in his open heart. When an opportunity arises to lead research in the Maluku Islands on Homo florensis and archaic Homo sapien interactions, she seizes it.
When she comes back from Indonesia, she comes back more equipped to handle herself around Booth. But Booth comes back with a girlfriend, who Brennan proceeds to befriend. It does hurt her to see that Booth has moved on, but she's grown enough maturity wise to understand that it was a possibility. About a month or so prior to the point in which I would like to bring her from, the Jeffersonian is handed a murder case with a victim who is remarkably similar in personality and life to Brennan. She sees herself in that woman and undergoes a self evaluation of what she's achieved with her life. It reaches the point in which she tells Booth she regrets pushing him away and that she does want to be with him, even if it is too late now. Ultimately, it plants the seeds she needs in herself to move on as well. As long as Booth as with Hannah, she needs to find her own happiness and contentment with life.
While she's still easily dismissive of contrary beliefs to her own, and brutally honest, she's more willing to listen when people point out to her what she's doing. She's really trying to live life now, developing her own unique sense of humor and attempting to make (what are often really bad) jokes. Work is still the most important thing to her, but seeing her friends start families and grow around her makes her realize there's something more to it. She really is seeking to understand the world now and be a part of it, rather than just let it pass her by.
Strengths: Brennan has a very high level of intelligence. It has been inferred in canon a couple of times that she is a genius, capable of understanding complex academia (albeit, not so much emotions). Brennan is considered one of the foremost forensic anthropologists of her time and capable of “reading” bones as one would typically interpret more mundane objects. Not only can she identify the type of bone, but she can typically determine basic characteristics of the individual, how he/she died and lived, and any health problems that may have occurred.
Weaknesses: Emotions make Brennan more uncomfortable than anything else. Even though by this point in canon, she is trying to come to terms with allowing herself to feel – being less impervious to events around her – it’s not easy for her. Especially given that she’s spent most of her adult life trying not to allow emotions to influence her life. Brennan prefers being rational to a fault. Social interaction is another weakness, something she is definitely not good at. Likewise, she has trouble accepting change.
She’s also deeply afraid of being abandoned by the people she loves. Being left by her parents and brother at age fifteen left a huge impact on Brennan. The time spent in foster care following did not help. In Brennan’s eyes, the people she gets close to will ultimately leave her. It’s shown again and again that this fear dictates a number of her decisions, especially in regards to her relationship with Booth.
Re: Temperance Brennan | Reserved
First Person: As a forensic anthropologist, I have made it my life’s work to possess a thorough, if not perfect, understanding of the human skeleton. While the evolution of wings is not specific to the avian class, it is not at all common to hominid development. I know of no case in which any wing like structure has been reported as a vestigial growth, nor should there be.
To be succinct: the bones currently protruding from my back are impossible.
I do not know where I am, or if my “arrival” to this town is even legitimate. While I do not recall ever having such vivid or ridiculous dreams, I do not know how else to explain my current predicament.
However… whether this is a dream or… or something else entirely, I refuse to jump to any conclusions. Examination of this journal has shown previous use of it as some sort of communication device. While I am unsure how much time has passed since the last entry and my arrival, I believe it is safe to presume that it will remain an excellent source of answers.
And I currently have many questions.
Third Person: For the hundredth time since her arrival, Brennan found herself standing between a dual mirror set up. It had been relatively simplistic to construct and provided the easiest scrutiny of her newly found wings. Although she fully acknowledged that it would be easier to seek volunteers amongst the other townspeople, the alteration to her own fundamental skeletal structure took precedent.
Though she was loathe to admit, the wings bothered her on an emotional level she was not ready to explore. Bones told the truth in a way people did not. She understood them in a way she did not - could not understand people. Plastic surgery was something Brennan would never consider. Her own visceral structure had been altered against her will. The thought plagued her – no matter how much she tried not to think of it.
But while it was easy to push aside past traumas – her parents’ abandonment, being kidnapped multiple times, the time spent buried alive – the wings were an ever present reminder of her current situation.
She reached back to run her fingers along the top of her left wing, feeling the edge of one of the two extra humeri her body now possessed. Brennan watched as her reflection portrayed the action, brown feathers momentarily crushed by probing fingers. It made her shiver but her wings no longer hurt as they did the day she arrived in the town.
And she was still no closer to determining whether this really was some strange dream than she was that first day.
Brennan shook her head as she walked away from the mirrors to fetch her notebook – a journal kept separately from the one she utilized for communication. It possessed all the facts she had been able to determine about the wings so far, specifically utilizing her own as the main foci of her study. She pulled the pen out from the notebook and then took a seat at her desk to begin to write the latest day’s notes.
It was, at least, something to focus on until she either woke up or left.
