Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Strengths:

Physical:

Naoki is exceptionally strong and focuses on both brute force and magical abilities, given his techniques. Things like Freikugel and Gaea's Rage are exceptionally powerful, but are related to the strength stat, so he has made sure to keep that high combined with his Magatama. Same goes for magic, as he prefers to keep himself balanced offensively, using his Magatama for defensive purposes too, making him more of a tank unit, accurate and able to withstand damage since raising magic not only raises attack magic, but his magical defense as well (does not cover weaknesses). He has faced down many legendary demons and angels, even Metatron, who he was able to kill with his fellow demons. He was even able to keep up with normal demons and the devil hunter, Dante from Devil May Cry, in a fight. Certain Magatama can also alter his stats, making up for some weaknesses and giving him new strengths, like making him able to absorb fire and other elements. And his abilities seem to be able to evolve depending on his Magatama, creating stronger techniques. Depending on the foe and the set-up he has, he could probably take on a boss demon alone, especially if they are at a weaker level. One of his most devastating attacks is Gaea's Rage, an area attack that can tear up the ground with energy, and unleash it onto his enemy with devastating results.

Naoki can summon demons to aid him, special demons that have a place in some form of history of mythology, like Cu Chulainn, or even religious, like Metatron. Many others as well, like Beelzebub, Lilith, Pixie, Cerberus, Tengou Kurama, Lilim, Futomimi, Black Frost, and even Dante from Devil May Cry (though for this game, he would naturally not be able to summon Dante or Futomimi since they are technically appable characters). He also has 8 set skills: Null Mind (nullifies any assault on the mind, like panic, confusion, charm, or anything that can distort his head in any way, or even morph his body; this doesn't include venomous attacks), Gaea's Rage (a radial blast that literally tears up the ground beneath him with tremendous force and against all foes near him for devastating power), Spiral Viper (an optic blast that deals heavy damage to one foe), Null Death (nullify instant-Death spells), Lightning Storm (a lightning spell that hits foes at random with heavy elec element hits), Glacial Blast (summons ice to strike at foes; has a potential to freeze their bodies and reduce their defenses to zero, leading to critical hits and nullifying strengths, unless they are immune to ice, as this spell won't work at all), Diarahan (a spell that heals the user to full health), and Endure (no matter the attack, Naoki can survive with the barest of life energy, but this can't be used constantly).

Mental:

He is smart, using not only his abilities to create a victory against sometimes hopeless foes, but as well as his demons, creating a demon army that is balanced enough to resist foes' attacks, hit their weaknesses, and otherwise be prepared for a situation he himself is not fully prepped for. Moreover, he is capable of using items to also tip the balance in his favor, study and memorize the strengths and weaknesses of his foes to deal the most effective damage and how to fight effectively without formal training. Not only that, but he is clearly intelligent enough to decipher the weaknesses and strengths of each of his foes' Reasons as explained in the personality. He understands the strengths and weaknesses of each one.

Hikawa's might bring about peace, bringing people together for one reason for existence, but at the same time, that would kill everyone's personality, the things that make them unique. They'd be unified, sure, and no chaos would be caused, but if that which makes them is gone, what is the point of living?

Isamu's Reason makes no sense because when it was created, it wasn't brought about by one person alone, so Naoki's own actions proved that it was impossible and hypocritical.

And Chiaki's reason is complete chaos, wanting only the strongest to survive and rise, but the problem lies in that. In only to be the strongest, that would create massive amounts of rage and fear, and distrust, a world filled with the strongest person always living in the fear of their demise, and the world be in darkness. It would be the Conception except it's a scenario that is beyond worse.

Even the neutral path, freedom, has its flaws, as it was humans that caused this mess in the first place. There is distrust because of that and more caution as a result. This a strength because he understands all of this and can thus understand complex morality questions.

Emotional:

He can push aside those feelings long enough to get the job done. Those demons have personalities he probably could get attached to, have their own feelings, and he can ignore them for the greater goal, fuse them, and create even more incredible demons that can help him, or fusion fodder so they can be used, trained, and then fused to create the most powerful demons through fusion. And since he is also willing to kill his friends, he can push those emotions aside as well, not so much as shedding a single tear despite every time he was betrayed or saw someone he knew die.

Weaknesses:

Physical:

He isn't invincible like his Digital Devil Saga self (near invincible anyway). While building his defense and attack stats, it has made his luck and agility stat suffer. He's not incredibly fast unless his stats are boosted with spells. Moreover, he naturally can't last long if a whole gang of demons manages to hit his weakness again and again, if they are strong. Weaknesses for instance could be hit about twice a turn for all demons, so by hitting that weakness, they stun him, and can use it again, dealing double damage and less time for him to react, let alone survive the damage. If someone knows all of his weaknesses and can counter his strengths, they have him beat. Moreover, while he can endure a lot, someone with his power could barely survive a fall from the top of an extremely tall building, and it has put him in the red. Speaking of which, people can tell he is weak if his tattoos glow red when he is near death. Also, the Magatama limit the number of moves he has, so without his demons, he cannot be the most variable combatant. For instance, the game only allows for 8 set skills, aside from the skills brought by the Magatama, like resistances. There's the potential to be as strong as his DDS self since he has taken down Metatron, the strongest angel in the SMT universe, but that's no doubt going to take some training and new Magatama; Naoki doesn't have the Masakados Magatama yet. Weaknesses also vary with Magatama, and changing them seems to take more time, so in battle, it might become a disadvantage this way, since he is not allowed to do this in the game. Plus, Naoki can only summon 3 demons at a time, not all of them.

Mental:

He is still a 17 year old who is about to graduate, not attending college or military, and relies solely on experience. He has a lot of it in terms of fights, yes, but those fights were set with fighting as a team unit, so he doesn't have much experience solo. And he has no formal training in martial arts or true sorcery, so the more experienced would clearly have an advantage in a fight if they decide to fight him. Take out the demons, you limit the combat capabilities.

Emotional:

As explained in the personality section, Naoki is still suffering mentally. He is still a kid, and while the game doesn't show it, it needs to be remembered that he is a silent protagonist, and a silent protagonist's actions are rarely if ever shown. It's clear he wasn't able to get over things like shock so easily, as he had the opportunity to face his friends and kill them each time they gained power and went evil, yet never took that. It's also because they were more powerful than him at that state, sure, but the game doesn't really show that much emotion, so it has to be digged up by players. It should be noted however that when he tries to get the Tower of Kagutsuchi up, he has gotten the resolve to do that, but it has most likely crippled his mind on that, the lack of faith in humans, so he'll be less likely to trust anything that is human, as it has been demons that were the most trustful. Friendships forged might help him put him back on the right path though. That said, it is easy to play against those emotions unless it pushes him too far. In the game, it didn't really seem to matter though as he was dead-set on killing his friends. It might be possible to get him fixated on growing stronger as well, given that most times, you have to grind in the game and find ways of gaining power.
