Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Nala | The Lion King | Reserved | ii

[personal profile] pinned_ya 2012-01-04 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Since they were cubs, Nala was friends with Simba, a male cub who was the prince of Pride Rock. She was spunky and full of energy and sass. She was also not above calling Simba out when he said that they were going to go to the watering hole because there was nothing special about the watering hole, but quickly realizing that he wasn't actually planning on going there. Like Simba, she was curious of the world around her and more than happy to explore it, even if she was not supposed too. She points out to Simba that they could get in big trouble if someone knew that they were in the elephant graveyard, but the manner in which she states it isn't at all like she is worried about it.

As an adult, many of the traits that Nala had as a cub are still there. She is clearly intelligent and thinks outside of the box, planning- just like she has when they had 'ditched the dodo' Zazu. Instead of remaining at Pride Rock to linger in the desolation, Nala set out in search of food from other sources as well as aid. Her first appearance after the time-skip shows the change. She has clearly grown, just like Simba, and has become a fierce hunter. She stalks Pumba through the grass and is all business when she goes to attack him. Nala was serious in her fight when Simba sought to intervene, and even though Simba was a full-grown lion, Nala still managed to pin him under her.

Even though life has been hard on her since the death of Mufasa and the supposed death of Simba, she still holds that courageous and fearless spirit. Yet she also still has that softer side. While her intent was to kill Pumba for food, once she learns that he is a friend of Simba's, she goes no further despite fact that they are part of a lion's food chain.

Nala also has a strong sense of right and wrong. Even though she is happy beyond words to find Simba alive, she isn't a pushover. She didn't understand his 'no worries' attitude and made sure that he knew about it. She has no qualms about yelling at him, using that sharp tongue of hers, or forcing him to confront the truth even if he doesn't want too. For Nala, Simba is the rightful King and Scar is just an impostor on the throne. No matter how many times Simba says that Scar is King and that he isn't, Nala won't let it rest. Nala is not happy or satisfied with those answers though. Even if he is technically King, she doesn't hold back in berating him for being stupid.

She can be quick to anger, especially when it deals with something that she puts her belief in. She is stubborn, not being cowed or pushed aside and keeps burrowing for the truth. Nala has tenacity, not willing to allow failure to succeed. Yet, despite the fact that her words can be harsh at times, she never says them to be spiteful and they tend to be the truth- direct and in your face. For her, it is not just about Simba taking the throne because she wants him too, but instead she knows that he has too. Without him, the future of Pride Rock would have bee a dark one as all ready things had gone from bad to worse under Scar.

Nala though is also kind and warm, social when it is the time to be. She tenderly tells Simba that she missed him, giving him an affectionate nuzzle and even later a lick on the cheek. She clearly makes a good mother, being kind and gentle with her daughter, as is shown later from the canon point I am taking her from. She recognizes that their daughter takes after both Simba and herself, but doesn't feel the urge to watch her every second and hover above her. The sassiness from her childhood can still be seen even in her adult self, as she repeats the line from their childhood about danger when they go to take back Pride Rock.

Over all, Nala is an intelligent lioness who sticks to her ideals and doesn't back down. She is a fearless adult who has no qualms about making her point known. Nala is a competent hunter but also has a warm and spunky side to her as well.

Strengths:
When it comes to physical attributes, Nala is a lioness, which means a hunter. It is the females who go out and get the food. She is shown to be quick and agile, with sharp teeth and fierce claws. She stalks Pumba and would have gotten him, had Simba not stepped in. She also likely has good endurance as she did chase after Pumba and then held her own against Simba in the fight that followed.

Mentally, Nala is someone who sticks to her beliefs and ideals, even when someone else doesn’t. A case in point is with Simba. He is King, the rightful one, even if he doesn’t want to acknowledge it, and Nala cannot understand why he acted the way that he did when she met him. She is also an intelligent lioness. As cubs, it was Nala’s plan that got rid of Zazu, even if Simba took the credit for it. She also knows that there is little left in the Pride Lands and she goes off looking for help and for food.

Emotionally, her strength lays in her courage and in her compassion. From what we see, it is Nala that set off to seek aid, something that would have taken courage- to leave behind the place she was born and look for help from outside places.

Weaknesses:
Physically, although Nala is a hunter and while later in the movies she is shown to hold her own against Vitani, at the same time, her strength only goes so far. Against an enemy that is stronger or bigger than herself, she would likely run into trouble. She is also only a lion, so the only powers she has are any that your typical lion would have.

Mentally, although she does stay true to who she is, at times this can be abrupt and in your face. She doesn't always stop and think, but at times just acts and says things. She tells Simba that she is disappointed in him as he is not the lion that she remembers nor does she understand the attitude he has taken. She can tell that he is holding something back, but to her, the main thing is that he is King, and that is that.

Emotionally, she has been shown to lose her temper. When she tries to talk to Simba about everything, they end up getting heated and exchanging words. When Simba says that she is starting to found like his father, Nala snaps that at least one of them is. Although she knows that there are things that he isn't telling her, she pushes. It isn't until after the fight that she tries again, most softly this time, to get Simba to open up, and just gets angry again when he yet again rebukes her.

Samples (ALL samples must be set in Luceti-verse.)

First Person:
[voice]

What is this thing…? I don’t understand. I know it’s not a dream, but I still can’t make sense of any of this.

[A sniffing noise can be heard: once, twice, three times. Then silence falls. The voice is that of a female, and clearly one who is confused judging by the tone she uses. Nor does she appear to realize that she can be heard.

Another sniff, followed by that appears to be a tap with her paw. A further moment of silence that is only interrupted by the sound of crumpling foliage as Nala seats herself before the device.]

It’s not alive, and it doesn’t smell like food. It doesn’t even taste like food. Yet, someone left it here… The same someone who took me from Pride Rock? It’s not like- Wait, does that mean-
uh, hello? [Sounding a bit sheepish. After all, she could very well be talking to nothing, but it wouldn’t be the strangest thing to happen to her today.] Can someone hear this? Simba? I don’t suppose- no, why would he. My name is Nala, and I’m looking for a place called Pride Rock. It’s in the Pride Lands… although I’m not exactly too sure which direction it is in… If anyone can hear this, could you help a lioness out? I was in the middle of something and I’d like to get back.

Third Person:
She drew in a breath, registering the smell of leaves and bark, and slowly opened her eyes. It took Nala a moment to realize that the sight before her was both real and not what she recalled. Several times did she blink, yet the setting before her did not change. Wariness set over her as she became alert, rising to four paws as she cast her head back and forth. Yet that action only brought more questions as when Nala glanced over her shoulder, she could not help but furrow her brows in confusion.

"Wings?" The word was stated in a slow manner, as if getting used to the taste of it. After all, she was a lioness, not a bird, and a lioness did not have wings. It had to be a dream, but she also knew it wasn't a dream- at least not a dream like any she had had before. It was too real to be anything but wakefulness, but she still gave herself a little nip on the shoulder. A small jolt of pain registered, but she did not wake. It seemed that she could not explain why there were wings, but they were there and she wasn't dreaming.

Turning away from the tawny additions, her face turned toward the landscape before her. New scents greeted her nostrils, strange and foreign, but at the same time holding the familiarity that was nature. It was different from the jungle where she had found Simba, but it was more alike to that than to Pride Rock.

Pride Rock...

"Simba... Kiara!" With a start she jerked her head back and forth, trying to get a familiar scent, but no, none registered. She felt the panic rise within her. Had something happened to either of them? Try as she might, Nala could not recall anything about it. The last thing she recalled was presenting their daughter to all the kingdom, and then... Then nothing- or rather nothing that explained what was going on and where she was. Nala wasn't the sort to fall to pieces though. There had to be some sort of explanation and she was a lioness.

Like the huntress she was, Nala moved through the forest, yet she felt out of place in a world of greens. For a time she paced through the trees, seeking any sign of those she knew, and eventually the forest started to thin. If she could find another animal to speak with, they perhaps could help her figure out where she was and how to return home.

Soon, a dirt path revealed itself, slowly growing wider and more worn, carrying with it more new smells. She still moved forward, not willing to give up. Answers would be found. Yet, when the trees suddenly gave way to a sprawling valley before Nala, it only brought more questions.

Strange stone structures greeted her, things she had never seen before. Eyes wide yet still alert, she could only spent several minutes staring. Just where was she, and what had happened? Finding a spot in which she could observe from, Nala crouched amongst the grasses, eyes never leaving the sights before her. She couldn't explain what it was but that didn't mean she couldn't come to understand, and for the longest time she did just that- watching, observing, taking every little detail that she could in.
