Applications
PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!
Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!
PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!
Samples: 3rd person
It took him a moment to stand up, as he certainly didn't remember falling asleep in such a place. It wasn't so much to gather his wit as it was to analyze his surroundings and try to detect any threat. The occasional chirping bird and the sound of running water were all he heard. After a moment, he sat up, noting the pain on his back even before he realized he was not wearing his own clothes. It wasn't unbearable, but even he would not call it dull. Reaching back, Mihawk made a quiet noise of surprise as he touched feathers - and felt a slight spike of pain. He pulled back, looking over his shoulder to find the offending wings now attached to his back. His expression didn't change much, but only because he controlled the spasm of irritation before it could manifest itself. He didn't know why anyone would give him wings, of all things, but he decided not to tamper with them for the time being.
A cursory glance around presented an unfamiliar clearing in an unfamiliar forest. The dip between his eyebrows became just the tiniest bit more noticeable. Nonetheless, Mihawk remained relatively calm, focusing his energy on solving the mystery at hand, rather than useless panic. He didn't do panic, really, it didn't suit him at all. His eyes fell on a book and a pile of neatly folded clothes - his own, or a very close facsimile. Eyes narrowed, he reached for them, fingering the familiar fabric in silence. They felt familiar enough, but as he studied them carefully, he noticed someone had gone ahead and cut holes on them to fit his new wings. He pursed his lips, not sure if he should find the gesture amusing or infuriating, and instead deciding to withhold judgment just yet. It wouldn't do to be rash, when every part of the situation seemed so suspicious and out of his control.
He hated things out of his control.
He examined each article with a critical eye: his hat, his coat, his shirt, his pants, his sash, his boots, even his underwear. It was all there. Mihawk took a moment to consider his options and the implications of his actions, before he stood up and carefully dressed himself again. He winced, minutely and almost too fast to be seen, when the fabric of his shirt brushed the base of one of the wings. At least, he told himself, putting on the coat with even more care, he knew the things were definitely attached to his back. It was strange, the sensation of having two extra limbs, he felt hyper aware of them, now that they had been brought to his attention. He thought, almost cynically, that he would have to compensate his balance in a fighting stance. It was an amusing little thought to entertain, as he placed the hat on his head and then brushed down the front of his clothes, feeling marginally more in control of the situation.
Unfortunately, the familiarity of his own attire did nothing to counter the fact he had been trying to ignore until he could deal with it properly: his swords were gone. Both Kogatana and Yoru were very obviously missing and their loss felt acutely like the loss of a limb. A pair of wings were a cheap trade off for his beloved blades, not to mention, it has been many years since he last found himself weaponless. Even so, he refused to let the anger and frustration boil over, though it was a considerable effort at this point.
He picked up the book instead.
Things got more interesting afterwards, enough for him to concentrate on something other than the intense, visceral dislike he felt for whoever had brought him here. At the very least, he reasoned, it seemed he wouldn't be bored for the foreseeable future.
