Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Samples

First Person: Could I please request a Q&A to be answered. Thanks

Third Person:

“Ngh....” He groaned as consciousness began to filter back, bringing with it a pounding in his skull, not to mention a thousand other, smaller pains making themselves known all across his body at the same time. Concussion? Maybe. It certainly felt it could be one. He hated concussions.

Full consciousness returned, taking with it any hope he had of not remembering what had happened. The sudden recall made his head spin. The Tesseract. Loki. The Helicarrier. Natasha and well, that explained why he felt like he'd been steamrollered. For once he was glad that she didn't pull her punches.

Wait... Loki... He paused, going absolutely still as he pushed at the edges of his consciousness, testing. He remembered the feeling of blue fire wrapping around his mind, shoving something else into his head, twisting him, making him something else. The memory sent a roll of nausea through him and he realised that he was trembling, shivering even, like that one time he'd been drugged and coming down off it had damn near killed him.

He waited until the trembling subsided, taking slow, deep breaths because if he started to panic now then he wasn't sure that he was going to be able to drag himself together. Finally he opened his eyes slowly, expecting the cold metal and harsh light of a holding cell or maybe the med bay if he was lucky. What he saw then, really made no sense at all.

He closed his eyes again, dropping his head back down against the ground. Another thing that couldn't be real. He was not lying on the ground and he was definitely not looking up at stars and trees. He took another breath and tried again, because he was nothing if not stubborn. Unfortunately turned out that his surroundings were just as stubborn and were refusing to make any sense at all.

He pushed himself slowly up onto his elbows, noting his state of dress. Not naked which was a step up from some missions, but no shirt, no bow and no-one in sight either. “Natasha?” he called out, deciding that the risk was worth it if things would start making any sense.

There was no response and he finally sat up fully, looking around himself warily. A wood. He was sitting in the dirt in a clearing in the middle of a wood. He knew that his life was strange but it usually made some kind of sense in context. No-one had been here recently that he could see either. No tracks, no signs of life except him. He wasn't drugged that he could tell and it was all very lucid for a hallucination. A wave of dizziness overtook him as he stood, forcing him to close his eyes for a moment, head pounding, until it subsided. It was only then that he noticed the odd and unfamiliar weight on his back. He wasn't wearing a backpack or anything else with straps, but it was throwing off his balance a little, just enough for him to notice. With some trepidation, he reached back, twisting to see what was there.

His eyes widened at the glimpse and the feeling of feathers beneath his fingers.

“Okay, now I know she hit me too hard.”

1. Do you consider yourself to be special in any way? Explain.
Have you seen me shooting?

But seriously... I'm not a super soldier or a genius scientist or a... a god. I'm a sniper. A good one. I have a particular set of skills, one that not a lot of people have. But I guess in the end, I'm only special as long as my aim is true. Otherwise I'm just any other guy with a bow.

2. Have you ever been cruel to someone? Do you regret it? If you haven't - would you be cruel, and would you regret?
Hasn't everyone? People are cruel all the time. I'd say it's human nature except I've met people who weren't human and they were cruel too. Look, a lot of how I make my living is by killing people. I've probably killed people who don't deserve it. Do I regret it? I... regret that I wasn't aiming at a better target. I regret when people die who don't have to. But... I keep doing it so I don't know.

3. Do you care about other people, or would you rather not deal with them?
I'm not gonna leave someone to die if there's any way to prevent it, if that's what you're asking, but people complicate things. They get in the way, they make bad calls. They're distracting. Things'd be a lot easier if I didn't have to deal with them all the time.

4. Describe a weakness of yours and how you might overcome it.
Well, I guess I've been told I talk too much over the comms during missions. Maybe some kind of gag?

5. Describe what the word 'justice' means to you.
Justice is a pretty vague concept. I guess I just hope that what I'm doing hurts people less than leaving things as they are. Sometimes that means people have to die. So I suppose... giving someone the ending that they've earned. And one day it'll be me on the other end of it.
