This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!
PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Re: Lirael | Old Kingdom trilogy
This is paired with what seems to be a natural inclination towards self-pity and depression. It is mentioned that she has contemplated suicide many times, and on her fourteenth birthday she actually decides to throw herself from the highest point in the dwelling place of the Clayr. She does not actually go through with it, but she gets as far as to the place itself before she changes her mind faced with the reality of actually killing herself.
Her entire sense of self is based around things that she is not rather than the things that she is. She doesn't look like the other Clayr, who are typically tan and blond, and so she doesn't think of herself as attractive. She is an exceptionally gifted Charter Mage but since the gift that matters most among the Clayr is the sight she doesn't really think of it as an equally great accomplishment. Anything she achieves is forever overshadowed by the fact that she does not have the only thing that to her mind matters.
Connected to this is her strong urge to feel like she belongs somewhere, which is also why having the Sight matters so much to her. She wants to feels part of something, she doesn't want to stand out and be the odd one, she wants to be just like everyone around her. When she cannot blend in by being like everyone else she still attempts invisibility by staying away from the others as much as possible, and only speaking when she absolutely has to.
She has a curious and adventurous side to her that is spurred on and nurtured by her companion the Disreputable Dog. Together they explore the great library of the Clayr and enter levels that should be locked to them but that Lirael manages to open up because of previously mentioned gift for Charter Magic. The pursuit of knowledge is something that becomes very important to Lirael, partly because she craves intellectual challenges but also because it distracts her from thinking about that which she still does not have. The Sight.
A deeper truth lies hidden under all her want to be a true Daughter of the Clayr, however, and that is the fact that life on the glacier was actually stifling her. She's not really the kind of person who is meant to lead a quiet life in one place that she hardly ever leaves, but her longing to be a part of the community and her conviction that being a Clayr is the best thing there is, and the only thing she wants, prevents her from actually admitting this to herself.
Despite having a tendency to despair, Lirael still has a strong sense of responsibility and doesn't shrink from setting right what she's done, for example when she happens to unleash a dangerous Free Magic creature in the library and ends up fighting and binding it after having spent a lot of time researching what it is and how to defeat it. In the end she also is fully prepared to go to her own death to stop Orannis the Destroyer from escaping. She might not always actively seek responsibility out but if it is given to her she will own up to it and do the best that she can to take care of whatever task is at hand.
She's not especially romantic, always having put the thought of such things off because other things seemed to her more important to achieve, as always first and foremost gaining the sight. While part of her does think it's a pleasant thought that perhaps one day someone could take a shine to her that she might like in turn, but it's not really all that important to her and not something she even dreams or fantasizes all that much about. She's not entirely disinterested, but it's certainly not high on her list of priorities.
Lirael is a lot stronger than she herself knows, though as the books progress she does start to realize that there is more to her than she has spent her life thinking, and that perhaps if she allows herself to be honest she doesn't actually want the life of a Daughter of the Clayr as such. What she wants is to have a place, to belong and be accepted, but she isn't really the kind of person who would be happy living in a glacier and every now and again catching a glimpse of the future.
She needs to explore and learn, and while she might not be a fighter exactly by nature, she still does not back down if a fight is hers to fight.
She's a little withdrawn and prefers to communicate via written notes because of the strong sense of disconnect she feels to other Clayr. She talks all the more with the Dog, and it is stated in canon that she often feels more comfortable around animals than people. If someone would manage to get under her emotional barriers she would probably talk as much with them as she does with the Dog. And once she does establish that kind of bond with someone, they become incredibly important to her.
Re: Lirael | Old Kingdom trilogy
Physical : All Abhorsens have a sense of musicality and rhythm, it's essential to be able to use the bells.
She is said to have learned to be all right with a bow and arrows by shooting rats in the library.
Mental: She is hightly intelligent, and a very gifted Charter Mage, something that is shown over and over in canon. For example the fact that she figures out how to unlock doors that she's not actually allowed to open in the library. She can enter Death and there she can use her ability as a Remembrancer to see into the past. Later on she also starts to learn about how to fight the dead with bells and magic as the Abhorsen-in-waiting.
Emotional: The delight she takes in discovering and learning things, and the strong love she feels for her companion the Dog. She really is a very loving and loyal person, if you just take the time to get to know her and make her come out of her shell.
Weaknesses:
Physical: Lirael says herself when she is sent away from the Clayr that she's not very good with a sword,
Mental: She is sometimes blind to her own merits and can't think of herself as attractive or her own gifts as worth as much as that of the sight. She's used to thinking about herself as inadequate even if she does take some pride in her accomplishments. Same with
Emotional: Lirael is very starved for affection and has a strong wish to have somewhere to belong. She is somewhat prone to depression and thoughts of suicide, though this is something that tends to recede when she has a task to lose herself in. Her low self-esteem would probably hold her back a lot more if she didn't have the Dog to make her get over herself and move on to new adventures, so to speak. She's also very guarded, reluctant to let people get close at the same time as she desperately wants them to be.

First Person: http://trainingwings.dreamwidth.org/15671.html?thread=817975#cmt817975
Third Person: The house of the Abhorsen had very comfortable beds, and none of them had tree roots that poked one in the side. Still, Lirael only shifted a little, curling up further as her wings tightened around her like a cocoon, new muscles moving and pulling at her back in strange and unfamiliar ways.
It was that more than anything else that woke her up. That unfamiliar tug and the ache that accompanied it.
She opened up her eyes, just a cautious crack that was immediately shut again as sunlight stung unprepared pupils. Still, even that brief fraction of time had been enough to tell her that she was not in the same place as where she'd fallen asleep.
But how was this possible? Who or what could penetrate the home that had kept Abhorsens safe for generations?
She reached to push whatever was covering her aside, and her eyes shot open despite the bright light when her fingers connected with feathers. Bright red and blue feathers like nothing she had ever seen on a bird. Like the painted paperwings that could be made to fly with Charter magic.
She scrambles to her feet, mind refusing the realization beating at it from all sides.
Wings, somehow wings had been attached to her back.
Her panic made the new apendages flap wildly, as if she was a bird trying to take flight, but of course nothing happened. Tacking wings onto something that was never meant to fly isn't going to give it the ability to. At least not without being aided by the Charter.
The Charter.
The wings stilled as the next terrifying realization hit. She couldn't feel the Charter. It just wasn't there. Neither was the sense of Death. It was just... blank. Was she in Ancelstierre? Was that what it felt like to be there? It was by far the most frightening think she had ever experienced. This relatively tranquil moment in a beautiful forest was like an icy fist squeezing her heart, freezing her lungs solid. She couldn't breathe.
”Dog?”
A pathetic squeak.
”Dog!”
A better effort, though her voice cracked and broke. But she was given no answer, the forest remained eerily quiet around her.
The one thing that might have calmed her would have been the presense of her friend. The Dog always seemed to know more than she let on about things, and perhaps she could have told Lirael something about what had happened. Perhaps it all somehow fit into the mission she was on.
But no such comfort was given. The forest remained eerily quiet, and it was suddenly all more than her already strained mind could bear.
So she did what many hunted creatures do when they have been caught and nothing else is left to be done.
She screamed.
