PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!
Crow | Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon | Reserved (2/3)
At first glance, Crow seems like a proud kind of individual with his "in-your-face" attitude and being prone to acting like a jerk to people he doesn't know yet. He's rather rude and mean-spirited to nearly everyone he first comes across, a real brat to have to deal with that doesn't seem to be capable of acting his age or knowing what common courtesy or politeness is--if he doesn't like your face, then he's not afraid to tell you so right to your face, and if he wants something, he wants it now. He can be demanding, insulting, or just downright hard to get along with at first, which would probably make any sane person wonder why on earth anyone, let alone someone as sweet and kind as Seto, would ever want to be friends with a guy like that.
Well the thing is, a lot of that bratty attitude of his? Some of it is genuine and will probably throw people off that don't have the patience to figure out that the rest of it is part of an act. You see, it's something he learned from a book he read about pirates, characters that have practically become role models for him. In this book, "Pirate Isle", it tells the story of a pirate boy who is able to befriend another boy despite his antagonistic behavior. Since having read this book, Crow has seemingly based his life and personality around this character, to become someone as cool as the pirate in the book, hence why he sometimes comes across as territorial or hostile even towards people he actually likes. Everything he does seems to be in an effort to imitate a pirate, whether it's simply in his attitude, or by actually causing trouble for others. And just like a pirate, and the bird he gets his name from, he has an attraction to shiny objects or other things of value, so you'd best keep a hold on your precious jewelry, otherwise it'll be gone faster than you can blink.
As such, even though he's mean, Crow is still a likeable person. He's energetic and cheerful despite his bad attitude, always cart-wheeling or flipping around with his circus-like acrobatics to get from place to place rather than just normally walking at times. He prefers to live in a way that is considered fun and exciting, and if things get boring, well, he'll always try to liven the mood up...even if it usually just causes trouble or involves stealing things and making people chase after him. Everything is like a game to him, and at the end of the day it's all in good sport to write rude messages on the walls and get some poor kid to chase and follow him all the way to the top of a ferris wheel in a game of tag, so there's no need to apologize for it too much as long as it's all in good fun.
There's an initial wariness to strangers of course, but once he gets to know you a little better and he finds you interesting, Crow can actually be pretty friendly towards you. Sure, he'll still be his energetic and aggravating self at times, but he will treat you kindly and value the friends that he has, having previously lived in a world that had little to no people to make any friendships with. He doesn't necessarily seek out companionship actively, but he dearly appreciates it with the few people he'll allow or ever get it from. Occasionally, he can be a little naive though when it comes to relationships with people, due to the fact that much of his knowledge of things (like his attitude in life) was something he adopted from his favorite book or other sources he found. Crow also has a few odd ideas about friendship, such as how friends give each other gifts and that friends are supposed to kiss each other too...or so he claims, anyway. But even if he doesn't know something, he'll at least make the effort to find out more about it, if it also gives him something to flaunt as well in addition to his awesome abilities.
Never letting anything get him down, the only sore spot he seems to have at times is the fact that he's a robot, and that despite his human appearance, he does not actually have any humanity to speak of rather than his own individuality. His origins are vague, even to him, due to having no memory of his "childhood" and only a photograph as a clue to figuring out that part of his past. It's his most important possession, and in a way, he sees an importance in things like memories, which can sometimes make him seem a little bitter and jealous of humans. Sure, he often pokes fun at people for being "typical humans" and all, but...now knowing what exactly he is, it's still kind of hard at times to think about things like "being able to feel" or "not being able to do things like cry" or other stuff like that. However, he won't let it keep him down for too long thanks to having good friends like Seto to remind him that it doesn't matter if he's human or not. Even if he may not be human, Crow is still Crow, and knows that he likes himself and that he still cares about the friends he has.
Strengths:
→ Physical: For a guy living in a post-apocalyptic world, Crow's been in pretty good shape. This mostly has to do with the fact that he's an android, so he can take care of himself well enough when it comes to surviving in difficult environments. He's quite speedy and flexible, and is capable of performing many acrobatic feats, such as running along edges, cartwheels and flips, or standing on his hands. He can do these for long extended periods of time without getting tired at all, and he can even jump much higher than any normal human can, reaching the top of tall buildings and structures with little to no problems at all. And he never has to worry too much about getting injured either, since his body has been built quite durably and he can even walk away from falling off of ferris wheels without so much as a scratch. His body appears to be very durable enough to survive nearly any damage it takes, possibly being the only way to truly damage him badly enough would be break something of his off through a strong enough force, and if he was to actually engage in a fight with someone, he'd probably be able to punch or kick them hard enough to possibly break bones if he's not careful.
→ Mental: Crow is actually an intelligent person--granted, it's artificial intelligence, but still intelligence none the less. Despite outward appearances and attitude, Crow actually likes books and will take the time to read whatever books he finds. Through this, Crow integrates things he learns from books into his memory and picks up on things from what he studies and observes, making him a very fast learner. Granted, sometimes he picks up on less than accurate information, but he still remembers things he learns well enough and can read and possibly understand any book you give him to look at. (Provided the book is entertaining, of course) Also, due to being a robot, this means he's possibly unaffected by things like mind-reading or mind-control or what have you that involves messing with the brainwaves of humans since, well, he's not human. You'd have to find some other way of messing with him than using those kinds of methods.
→ Emotional: Since he was built around the time of Glass Cage, it's possible that the reason Crow has such human-like emotions was that they were experimenting with making robots that could become as close to human as possible, being able to empathize with them and look and feel human, almost like a doll. Hence why he's so expressive and energetic, and can in fact be happy, sad, angry, or whatever else despite not being human. He also does his very best to never let anything get him down--he prefers "cheer" over "despair", and despite his occasionally cocky or bratty attitude, he can be kind when it comes to helping to try to cheer up a friend when they're down. To him, it doesn't matter if the world is ending (or has already ended in his case): as long as he's still having fun and can walk with his head held high, then everything will be fine.
Weaknesses:
→ Physical: Even though he's got some cool tricks up his sleeve as an android, the downside is that this means he ends up missing out on human luxuries. He probably doesn't have that much in the way of a sense of taste, smell, or touch, and as far as things such as sleeping goes, his would likely be the equivalent of a "sleep mode" setting rather than sleeping like a normal human would. Even his acrobatic skills as an android aren't that perfect--every once in a while if he's not paying enough attention, his balance might be off and he could be prone to slipping or falling over. Also, his battery life isn't something that normally lasts forever, so it's something he'll have to keep an eye on while he's here. If something was to happen to his battery or if he was somehow completely drained of power, it would cause him to shut down until a new battery can be found and replaced. When his battery is running out, his motor skills begin to shut down, followed by eyesight, then eventually speech and thought, his voice regressing back to speaking with a monotonous robotic tone before finally shutting off.
→ Mental: Despite Crow having "artificial intelligence" and the capabilities of becoming a hell of a lot smarter than most humans, there's still some slight problems. For one, Crow's memory doesn't extend back very far despite having been "alive" for quite some time. This is due to how Crow's memories of his "childhood" are missing and he can't remember anything that was going on around the time of Glass Cage or who his creator is, so if you try to ask him about that, you're out of luck, and it's quite possible that those memories have been permanently deleted and he's never getting them back. Secondly, his brain works more like a human's in that he doesn't actually know "everything" or has been programmed to know certain things like how Seto's friend Personal Frame was--he has to learn things through experience like everyone else does and despite how many books he may have read, there are still things he doesn't know about it, which can set him up for gullibility if someone was able to tell a convincing enough lie about something to him. Theoretically, he could possibly be reprogrammed if someone tech-savvy enough tried to, but he'd probably rather be dead again before letting someone try that.
→ Emotional: Crow is quite emotive, but sometimes he has trouble expressing his emotions well...at least, physically, that is. He's not used to things like hugs or the like and would undoubtedly be a little awkward at first if it's with a person he's not too intimate with. (Not to mention he has strange ideas of what friends apparently do with each other, but I digress) One of the most notable things as well is that due to being an android, Crow can't actually do things like blush when embarrassed or even cry when sad. While he's proud of the fact that he's "never cried a day in his life", he has also occasionally expressed some distaste or mild jealousy towards humans for being able to do so. This may or may not be due to how seeing other people cry possibly reminds me of his own inhumanity, something he resents just a little. Insulting his robotic nature is probably a sure-fire way to piss him off...then again, insulting him in general would probably do that anyway, since he tends to act rather mean-spirited towards people when the mood strikes him.
