HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Character
Name: Yamame Kurodani
Fandom: Touhou Project
Gender: Female
Age: Unknown, but probably measured in centuries
Time Period: Post Touhou 12.5: Double Spoiler
Wing Color: Dark brown, with yellow markings.
History:
Yamame Kurodani is a tsuchi-gumo, a spider youkai with powers of deception and plague. Because of her horrible powers, she and many other especially feared youkai were banished and sealed away in the underworld that was Hell at the time, where they settled to create the Ancient City of the hated youkai and lived in relative peace for many centuries (as peaceful as it can get when the city is full of fight-happy oni, anyway). For the next several centuries, Yamame lived in the Ancient City with the other hated youkai, and learned about parties and fighting and liquor and the ways of civilized creatures from them. When it got cold in the Ancient City and it was hard to find parties to warm herself at, Yamame migrated to the areas of the Underworld closer to the surface lands of Gensokyo so she could stay warm, and became familiar with the youkai stationed there to prevent escape or intrusion.
It was while she was in this area, not very long ago, that Yamame encountered two strange human girls, who were entering the Underworld in search of the source of a mysterious geyser. These girls attempted to bully Yamame, but she only fought with them a little bit before giving them directions to the Ancient City, where the oni Yuugi gave them more help.
And that was that, at least for the while.
Even more recently, two more intruders from Gensokyo's surface arrived, a couple of tengu who had been inspired by the tales of the human girls and were now competing to write stories about the forgotten youkai of Ancient Hell, among others. To these, Yamame gave a trickier fight along with their pictures and interviews, to remind them of why the hated youkai had been sealed away.
For the most part, however, Yamame has been content with her place in the Underworld, and not pestered the youkai or humans of Gensokyo's surface any unless they came to her for a battle.
Personality:
Unlike many youkai in Gensokyo, and vastly different from the common perception of spiders, Yamame Kurodani is a friendly, cheerful, sociable youkai and quite fond of humans. She doesn't seem to mind that she was exiled to the underworld for her terrible powers of disease. She never uses her powers to inflict disease without cause, and if forced to do so will favor diseases that bother someone only for a few days and have no lingering effects, rather than life-threatening diseases. She often takes a form as nearly human as possible to avoid frightening others, though her fashion tastes in her human-like form tend to resemble the appearance of her spider shape.
Yamame likes spellcard battles for many reasons. One is that fighting is fun for youkai, and she's very fond of having fun. Another is that it provides her an easy way to show others, especially humans, that even though she's a spider youkai, she doesn't mean them any harm, since the spellcard battle rules prevent lasting harm to either party. Thirdly, each spellcard is typically designed by its user and can reflect their interests and powers, so spellcard battles can be a good opportunity to learn about one another.
Yamame enjoys parties as an opportunity to and meet new people, and spellcard battles as a way of getting to know them. If she is aware of a party or a festival, she is likely to invite herself and anyone or everyone she meets, and possibly doesn't realize that this mightn't be polite, or if she does know she doesn't really care. This probably reflects her social life in the Ancient City of former Hell, which is largely inhabited by party-loving, rude, roughhousing oni.
Attending parties is also a good way to stay out of the cold. As a spider, Yamame is terribly susceptible to cold and will do anything she can to avoid being out in cold weather, including traveling to warmer areas as quickly as possible, finding a party to crash, or inviting herself into someone's home (or just hiding in their walls, in true spider fashion) and using her powers to make them sick enough to keep the house warm. Being a youkai, she doesn't realize this is a mean thing to do, or just doesn't care.
Yamame Kurodani | Touhou Project | Unreserved | Part 2
Physical: Yamame's natural form is a large brown-and-yellow spider, roughly resembling Argiope bruennichi. Her bite is painful, but not lethal, and she can spin webs. In the shape of a human-like girl, she has the approximate physical abilities of a healthy, athletic human, and her webs extend from somewhere beneath her skirt (no peeking!). She can hang upside down, but it's more difficult in her human shape because she's heavier.
Powers: Yamame Kurodani is a tsuchi-gumo, a spider youkai. As part of her youkai nature, she has powers of illusion and shapeshifting, and like everybody in Gensokyo she can fly and cast spells for spellcard combat. Her greatest and signature power, however, is her command of disease, which she herself refuses to use without cause. It is possible that she can not only inflict diseases but also dispel them, but whether this is true is unknown (mentioned by Grimoire of Marisa, actually, so it may be canon).
Spellcards: The power reduction of Luceti has reduced the power and danger of all Yamame's spellcards to Easy. Anybody who keeps their wits about them can probably avoid these spellcards.
Trap Sign - Capture Web: Yamame spreads sticky strands of webbing in all directions to trap enemies. It is a fairly slow spell and not overly difficult to evade.
Miasma Sign - Filled Miasma: Yamame fills the area around her with diseased miasma, then scatters it to infect enemies. This is a quicker and more random spell than Capture Web, but Yamame usually loads the miasma with a relatively harmless disease, so the worst her opponent gets is a little nausea, a sore throat, or a case of the sniffles.
Small Thread - Kandata's Rope: Yamame shoots a continuous string of webbing at a single enemy to snare them. The string bounces off nearby obstacles, so she can catch them with the ricochet as well as the shot itself. Severing the string is a good countertechnique. *This spellcard is from Double Spoiler and doesn't have difficulty settings per se; I'm using the first form of the card as "Easy", compared to the later difficulties which add speed, strange angles, and bullets spawning from the points where the string bounces off something.
Mental: Because of her powers, Yamame knows a lot about sickness and health, and if she weren't so careless, she would actually be a pretty good doctor. She also knows a lot about other arthropods from having to correct misidentifications, and a baffling amount of modern knowledge, culture, and trivia for someone who is not only from the magical (and low-tech) kingdom of Gensokyo, but has been sealed in former Hell for an untold number of centuries.
Emotional: Once one gets to know her, Yamame is cheerful, sociable, and very helpful to others. She takes surprises in stride very well, and almost always looks on the bright side of situations.
Weaknesses: (Physical, mental and emotional; PLEASE PROVIDE CANON EXAMPLES) True canon for Touhou is scarce. Much of what is in this section is widespread fanon, or extrapolated from her behavior in game.
Physical: Yamame is not very tough defensively, and not very agile. She has no tolerance for cold weather and cannot generate her own body heat, so she has to find someplace warm whenever it gets cold. As a spider, she can be threatened by large shoes or insecticide.
Powers: Yamame's shapeshifting and illusions can be identified and even seen through by anybody with extrasensory powers, or even by normal people with good intuition (Reimu's powers are not sensory, but she could tell right away that Yamame was an arthropod of some sort and not human). Animals can smell what she is, and most aren't thrilled with the thought of a human-sized spider. She also hates to use her disease powers without cause, because of how dangerous they are; if she uses them at all, she will usually pick a temporary disease that doesn't have any long-term effects, like the common cold or chicken pox. Lastly, her normally spectacular spellcards have been checked by the power reduction over Luceti, rendering them easy to avoid.
Mental: Yamame can be a scatterbrain if the subject is not directly relevant to her and her interests. In particular, she has little understanding of manners, especially the part where attending parties without permission from the person having the party is rude, and so is inviting friends without permission. Living in the Underworld also means that she doesn't know much about current events on the world's surface-- for all she knows, Luceti is still part of Gensokyo.
Emotional: Yamame is unintentionally very scary to others, since she can evoke the fear of spiders and the fear of disease. Because of her optimism and good nature, she can be oblivious to the dislike or fear others have towards her, or to her lack of manners offending someone and making her unwelcome.
Yamame Kurodani | Touhou Project | Unreserved | Part 3
First Person:
Hello, hello! Look at all the humans here! I'm Yamame, from the Underworld, and I'm so happy to meet all of you! I promise not to make you so sick you die, so let's be friends!
Am I going to be in trouble for leaving the Underworld, even though it was an accident? I wasn't trying to escape, honest! I know Parsee is going to be jealous to me for going to the surface without her, even though it was an accident.
How did I get here, anyway? And, where is "here"?
Ooh, are there going to be any parties? Are there any parties happening now? I'm going to find a party before I go back to the Underworld! Is that okay?
Third Person:
Somewhere in the forests near Luceti, there is a spider. A spider who is in the shape of a pretty blonde girl, sitting up with a confused look, which gradually turns to delight at the sunlight drifting through treetops. There are no animals around-- what animal would be anywhere near a spider the size of a human?
"Wow," she says to no one in particular. "It's been so long since I've seen sunlight!"
A moment later, the confusion returns. She wasn't ever supposed to leave former Hell, and she certainly doesn't remember trying to. What happened? Did she get drunk at a party again, and somehow end up outside?
Well, she isn't supposed to be here, so she'd better try to get back.
As the spider girl gets to her feet, she stumbles and winces in pain from her back.
"Ow! What's that? Am I injured?"
Being able to take human shape is nice for things like looking over one's own shoulder-- her natural form just doesn't have the flexibility that internal bone structures give.
"Hey, these are new!" she says to herself. She pokes one of the feathery wings with her hand, winces as the source of the pain is confirmed, then shrugs. "I'll have to ask someone about those. First I wake up on the surface, and now I have wings. And the wrong dress. How drunk must I have been for this to happen?"
But she isn't hung over this time. How weird. At least it means she will be able to find her way back underground okay, right? And won't she have a story to tell the other hated youkai! They'll be so jealous!
After looking around the area for several minutes, the spider determines that wherever she is, it isn't near the dark blowhole into Hell. She's going to need to find someone to help her find out where she is, and then find out which way to the geyser.
That's okay. She's helped others lots of times before, so now that she needs help to go home, good karma will be in her favor, right?
And maybe she'll even find a party to go to before she goes home! Won't that be nice?
Humming cheerfully, the spider youkai sets off in search of civilization.
Mun info because I wrote this when LJ was still hosting Luceti
