Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

Personality: Brooke calls himself the gentleman skeleton and tries to be polite and courteous, yet fails miserably at it. He's almost always seen wearing a suit and drinking tea (even at very strange moments with the tea) lending to his 'gentlemanly' appearance. When we first meet Brooke, Luffy, Nami, and Sanji encounter him on his ship. Brooke says to Nami that he is simply astounded by her beauty, and asks if he might please see her panties, this of course earning him a kick to the head. His laugh is a cheery Yohohoho! And he's almost ALWAYS cracking jokes about how he's already dead such as, “You sure are a beauty to my eyes, although as a skeleton I don't have any eyes, Yohohoho!” Brooke is a bit of a pervert as is evidenced by the fact that whenever he sees a girl he asks if he can see her panties. Except in the case of mermaids who don't wear panties... he just asked Cammie if he coud borrow some money. In fact Brooke even had a nosebleed at the thought of the fact that Mermaids don't wear panties, despite the fact that he doesn't have blood, and that would mean that a mermaid has... a tail. To his credit, he does actually ask instead of looking without permission, but after 50 years of no contact with really any human beings, his social skills were shot to hell... that and some of his sanity.

As a bard he likes to try to lighten the mood and act as comic relief at times with all his jokes and his skeletal smile. He has a firm belief that the best way to make people happy or smile, is through music, and good humor. As such, he will often sing songs and make horrible, and occasionally funny jokes. Brooke also is quite the ironic fellow contradicting himself on many things, such as saying he believes a man should have patience and be polite while waiting for dinner. He would then shout out two seconds later “Come on! Hurry up with dinner I'm staaaaaarrrving!!” Brooke is ironically terrified of undead like zombies, ghosts, and even skeletons, even though he is one now. And to further his impoliteness, he will often fart in public, quite loudly, but he would always say “Excuse me” afterwords. All theses ironies and contradictions of himself, are part of his way of being humorous, and almost every action he ever takes is to try to make someone laugh, or be happy.

As part of the Rumbar pirates, their motto was that they could make even a crying child laugh and smile, and so Brooke lives that motto to the fullest. He's happiest when he's trying to make others happy, and will try his hardest to make people smile... Even if that means making a complete fool out of himself. While Brooke is almost always trying to be cheerful, he does have a very dark and slightly tortured past. This past affects him heavily, and as much as his jokes and lighthearted attitude are to cheer people up, he's also trying to cheer himself up. He watched as his closest friends died one by one around him, until he too eventually died only coming back to life after a year of his soul wandering around lost. Then he spent a good 50 years trapped on a ship going nowhere with only the corpses of his old friends to keep him company. He had taken over as Captain when his former captain became ill, and a small part of him may blame himself for the deaths of his companions, as he was supposed to try to protect them as their captain. Whether or not this is the case, Brooke has a small aversion to taking on roles of leadership anymore because of that.

Still he had one goal in mind that kept him going through all of this, and that was that he had a friend waiting for him to return one day to fulfill his promise. Brooke takes promises very seriously because of this, especially promises he makes to friends. He even knew that his friend might not have been waiting for him all those years, and may had even forgotten him, but he pushed himself to carry on if there was even the smallest chance he'd still be waiting. His friend was a baby whale named Laboon, and Brooke grew quite the fondness for whales afterwords, as they would always remind Brooke of Laboon who he hasn't seen in many years. Having already died himself, and watched his closest friends of the past die as well, he is much more keenly aware of what it is like. He will always try his hardest to protect those he cares about from suffering a similar fate ever again, even if it means sacrificing his own life.

Strengths: Devil Fruit: With his devil fruit powers, Brooke is able to actually be alive despite the fact that he is a skeleton. He's also learned to use these powers for more than simply keeping himself alive. He can use the essence of the underworld to enhance his sword fighting with an icy aura. He learned that it wasn't his body that was keeping him alive anymore, but his soul, and as such he can lose his head, and simply put it back on. (Same goes for other extremities) Lastly, he also learned how to use his devil fruit to exit his body, and wonder around as just a soul.

Being a Skeleton: These particular abilities are more innate in nature as they do not necessarily require the use of his devil fruit. Being extremely lightweight, and highly energetic, Brooke knows how to run on water, jump much higher than the average superhuman, and can move at amazing speeds, without all that weight weighing him down. He can also restore his wounds and energy with milk, because being just bones, calcium does wonders for him. Being just bones, also makes him highly resistant to damage. Despite not having any muscle tissue he is also capable of growing stronger through exercise and training.

Music: Brooke knows how to play any instrument, but specializes in the violin, piano, and his own voice. He's also capable of writing his own songs and does so to help a bunch of cultists during the time he was separated from Luffy. His music has the power to strengthen allies, and hinder foes, like many mythological bards. Examples of these, are when he combines his violin and sword together to put his foes to sleep, or when he plays music to hypnotize his foes in the new fishman island arc.

Sword Fighting: Brooke is a capable sword fighter, specializing in fencing, and speedy surprise attacks. His level of sword fighting is not quite on par with his crew member Zoro, as music is his first and foremost specialty, but that does not mean he can't hold his own against capable sword fighters. Clear examples of this are his sword fighting capabilities against the zombies of thriller bark, and when he fights the new fishman pirates.

Friendliness: Brooke is actually quite good at making friends despite his oddities and the fact that he looks like an unholy abomination. With his cheery personality, always cracking jokes, and his love of meeting new people, he often can amass quite a number of friends in strange places.
