Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Eiko Carol | Final Fantasy IX | Personality

[personal profile] tiearibbon 2012-07-06 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
If you asked Eiko what she was like, she'd probably tell you all about how she's a wonderful lady and a a perfectly independent adult in her own right. If you asked someone else? The words "bossy", "loud", and "pushy" (very much so) first of all would probably come to mind. Eiko is all of those things, and some might find her a bit annoying at times because of this.

Eiko's very straightforward. She's not afraid to state what's on her mind or tell it like it is. And she does not hold back. She doesn't hesitate to call Lani an "old hag", Mikoto a "bimbo", and she openly describes Tot as "bookish" as well as other things. Even to a point of listing out the traits that supposedly makes the old man a nerdy type!

She six and acts her age for the most part, but that doesn't mean she's completely helpless. In fact, Eiko will be very happy to inform you that she's an adult and can take care of herself just fine! Which is actually true in some aspects: Eiko is very capable of taking care of herself if she has to, and she can take charge when the situation calls for it.

Deep down, though, it helps to remember that she is still six years old. For all the tough display she puts on in front of Zidane and co., she still acts her age at times. A good example of this is when the village's jewel is stolen--she's very visibly upset over it. Zidane picks up on this and tells her it's alright to cry, yet Eiko denies it afterwards. She's also very apprehensive about breaking any of her grandfather's promises or the village's customs, to a point she asks Zidane if it's okay for her to leave the village, despite not yet being of age to do so.

She's spent most of her life living in Madain Sari as effectively one of the last summoners, and she does feel loneliness over this--no matter how many times she'll deny it. This is why she's very friendly to Dagger when she learns of another survivor, despite Dagger technically being a romantic rival to Zidane's affections. Dagger is another summoner, just like her. Someone to relate to. And deep down, Eiko just doesn't want to be alone anymore.

Eiko Carol | Final Fantasy IX | strengths/weaknesses

[personal profile] tiearibbon 2012-07-06 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Strengths:

Physical
Not... much in this aspect. She can fight with a flute or staff if she has to, but she doesn't possess much of a punch. She's only six, after all. Her eidolons, on the other hand, can surprisingly pack some punch (literally in one case)! This however isn't applicable in Luceti, which means we're back to square one.

But Eiko does know a variety of white magic, which is still applicable within Luceti! Her magic centers mostly around healing and defensive spells, but she does know a few offensive ones as well.

Mental
Eiko possesses a summoner's horn, which allows her to communicate with eidolons and wild animals. Granted, the former wouldn't actually be applicable. I'm not sure if the latter would be either, given that animals in Luceti seem to already possess the ability to speak. (?)

For her age, she knows a lot about her tribe's customs and she's very much happy enough to explain them to anyone curious about them. She's very knowledgeable about summon magic and related traditions, and she does do her best to uphold them when you first meet her. Of course, her loneliness beat that out, so she does end up breaking some anyway to aid Zidane and co.

She is also surprisingly capable of taking charge if she has to. This is something not only seen in the storyline but the game's own mechanics itself: If Zidane is not present in the party, Eiko is usually the next in line to become party leader. That's right, it isn't Steiner, who's a knights' captain and debatedly a full-grown man. It isn't Freya, who's perfectly an adult in her own right. It's your team's token kid and summoner, and for what it counts she actually does a pretty good job at it. In fact, this was what Eiko was doing before being taken to Luceti. While Zidane's team was off getting something for Kuja in Oeilvert, Eiko was busy trying to lead the rest of the team out of there.

Emotional
Emotionally, Eiko handles herself very well despite being the last of her kind. A year after her grandfather passess away, and she's taking care of herself well enough with moogles for company. She still feels a little bit lonely at times, but she's hardly the type to get outright depressed over her situation.

And for all she can yell and get mad at someone, she also lets go just as easily. Unless you've done something seriously bad, Eiko's not really the type to hold a grudge for long, if ever.

Another emotional strength is the ability to enter "Trance," which in Eiko's case allows her to cast white magic consecutively. Usually she can cast two spells at once in this case. It does very little for her physical strength, but it is a useful strength in its own right.
Weaknesses:

Physical
Yeah, the downsides of being pint-sized: she's tiny. Physically, she's as squishy a mage as you get in battle and outside of it as well. Being small means she's also easy to pick up. For example, Lani grabs with no problems whatsoever. And Zorn & Thorn do the same as well later on, when she's kidnapped by them. She'll definitely throw enough of a fuss if she's grabbed, but she also can't do much once she is taken.

Mental
Eiko also doesn't always practice what she preaches. Such as when she tells Vivi to be honest with himself, versus her own conflict of keeping her promise to her grandfather. This isn't to say she's a hypocrite, though, because she does very well believe in what she says. It's more like even Eiko doesn't always know what to do at times.

Eiko's spent most of her life living in Madain Sari, with nothing but moogles for company and a collection of plays written by Shakesphere Lord Avon. This, as a result, has given her a... curious view of how certain things work, especially romantic things. So, sometimes her logic is kind of interesting, especially when you look at how she pursues Zidane.

Emotional
Bossy, bossy, did I say Eiko was bossy? Because she's kind of is! She's also a bit of a brat. She bosses Vivi around like it's no one's business, she doesn't hold any words back if she's mad enough (e.g. Calling Mikoto a "bimbo"), and believe me: she can easily get mad at times. Really mad. But she also lets it go just as easily, unless she has a good enough reason not to.

It should help to remember that for all her claims of being an adult, she is still only six. And she does act like it at times. A good example of this is her conflict over upholding her grandpa's promise of not leaving the village until she's sixteen versus her own inner loneliness. She outright asks Zidane if it's okay for her to break her promise and leave the village--something a kid would likely do when unsure.

She does not want to be alone anymore. This is why she latches onto both Zidane and later on Dagger, when she learns of another survivor. She really hates being alone, which is why her desire to keep traveling with Zidane and his friends wins out over keeping her promise to her grandfather.

Eiko Carol | Final Fantasy IX | Samples

[personal profile] tiearibbon 2012-07-06 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Samples

First Person: Here is a [community profile] trainingwings thread! I'm not sure if that's long enough but if not? I'll go ahead and request a Q&A.

Third Person: When you wake up not only without your normal attire, but with a weird dress and an even weirder new pair of wings? That's strange enough! Eiko wasn't going to deny that; that was weird for sure. But more importantly--when you wake up hanging off a tree branch in some far-off neck of the woods?

That is unfortunately how Eiko Carol is spending her first day in Luceti so far, and she is none too pleased about this. Not only does she get left behind, she gets grabbed by two weird jesters, and this is where they stick her?

This is either some sinister plot going on, or someone's idea of a very bad joke. Eiko has her money on the latter, personally. Seriously, who would kidnap someone just to stick wings on their back, then leave them, well... hanging? If that's supposed to be a sinister plan, then it's a very bad one.

Well, it couldn't always be bad. She still had to have Mog somewhere! With a hopeful look, Eiko quickly checks around her dress, patting around where there might be pockets to see if there's any sign of her friend.

No luck. Mog was nowhere to be found. Well, that's just great. Not only is she stuck out here in the woods, but she's stuck out here alone. And Eiko really didn't feel good about that. Frustrated, she flails around even more, the branch bobbing up and down as she did.

"Ugh, I can't believe this. I'm stuck out here by myself, and those weirdos just had to take my clothes and stick wings on my back! If I die out here, Mog, don't think I won't come back somehow! You hear me?! I'm serious when I say I'll haunt you forever!"

Ugh, this is hopeless. She knows Mog can't hear her out here, but it doesn't change the fact she feels utterly frustrated over being stuck like this. For now, though, all she could do is hope there's someone else nearby who can help her out of this. If this branch doesn't snap first, that is. That would hurt for sure!
