Applications
PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!
Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!
PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

PHYSICAL: Tyria has armor. Lots of armor. She usually doesn’t wear it unless she’s in battle or has work to do with her Tower, but when she’s got it on, it’s fairly plain to see that she’s not going to be easily overtaken. It also helps that, as a Reyvateil, she has access to song magic (which is ... pretty much normal magic, activated through song and/or hymmnos). Being a Reyvateil Origin makes that song magic even stronger, and makes her a pretty heavy hitter.
In a sense, she could also be considered a "physical distraction". In Ar Tonelico Qoga there is a system known as "Purging", in which the Reyvateil currently in battle will "purge" herself of whatever she's wearing up to three times. I swear it's not nearly as perverted as it sounds. ... I think. Actually, I can't defend that for Finnel or Saki (but there's no nudity, thank god), but this is Tyria, and her "final purge level" is not anywhere near as bad as theirs. Thankfully. Anyway, the sense from this is that the more skin a Reyvateil exposes, the more energy they can absorb/process. So, I suppose you could say aside from the obvious "what on earth is that girl doing" distraction she could "physically" provide, she also has five levels of power: the first, in which she is in her full armor and has a weak attack; the second, in which she is in her full armor but is no longer wearing her helmet and has a mid-level attack; the third, in which she loses most of her armor and has a mid-to-high level attack; the fourth, in which she loses all of her armor and has a high level attack; and the fifth, in which the player gets to play a little press-X-at-the-right-time musical beat minigame thing, Tyria uses an extremely powerful laser attack, and regains all her armor.
So, in short, she's a pretty tough customer,
MENTAL: She’s a smart one, and knows loads about specific technologies -- the VR-21 being a chief subject she's proud about knowing (according to her, she was the only one who could use it 700 years ago, and is still the only one who knows how it use it in the time period AT3 takes place in). She does also know a fair bit about general computer technology, although what she's used to is most likely far more advanced than what Luceti has available. She also has a vast wealth of knowledge about the world she's from -- more than almost anyone in it could ever boast.
Aside from those sorts of things, she analyzes situations quickly and efficiently, and can very easily give a solution or suggestion for which path to choose next. She also makes decisions very quickly, for better or worse.
... And as a glutton, she also knows quite a bit about good foods. This may or may not be considered a strength for some people, however.
EMOTIONAL: Tyria’s seen some pretty traumatizing things, but has still managed to keep on marching on. Even knowing that saving the world would most likely end in her demise, she still pushes through and completes the task she was created for. Her seeming emotional distance may also be considered a strength in some cases, as she doesn’t take a lot of things too personally or allows herself to get too emotionally attached to things.
Tyria also does a marvelous job at keeping her cool during stressful or otherwise dangerous situations. Even with the rest of the group around her panicking or otherwise shouting out the usual "What's happening?!" phrases that tend to pop up in dangerous situations, Tyria will be analyzing and taking control of the situation, often sharply reminding the rest of the group of the matter at hand. For example, when Ayatane transforms into a dragon, everyone else seemed paralyzed with "how did he do that" -- Tyria was the one to snap them out of it by telling them they had to fight ("Don't just stand there! Do you want to be sent to Heaven forever?!").
Weaknesses:
PHYSICAL: Without her armor, Tyria’s a skinny little thing who could easily be knocked around. She has little physical strength, and is likely out of shape (in one group chat session, she runs out of breath while climbing her own Tower, and is the only one to do so). Her song magic, while powerful, also leaves her extremely vulnerable. In order for it to be used to its fullest potential, she’d need to be protected, and even then, she’d need to be given enough time to charge her attack so that it’d be powerful enough to make a good enough impact. Having an enemy simply step on the magic rune that surrounds her while she’s singing is enough to make it impossible for her to use her magic, and would leave her to simply stand there and take a beating. It doesn’t help that it also drains her stamina while they’re standing on it, on top of that.
In short, in order for her to fight at all, she’d need someone to be there to defend her. She’d be stuck shooting off very weak song magic or just flat out stuck otherwise.
MENTAL: For starters, when you first meet Tyria, she’s spouting nonsense. This later ends up being a bit of a character quirk of hers to occasionally say strange phrases seemingly out of nowhere, or talk about how much she wants to eat fried bread, but she does actually have a few memory problems, which are heavily attributed to her past and solved by completing her Binary Field. Due to an incident in which someone she admired greatly committed suicide in front of her while she was singing, Tyria could only remember the beginning part of the song. This was said to be “impossible” by both Katene and Hikari Gojo, as there were methods to reboot the song so that it could be remembered fully. However, in Tyria’s case, this was literally a memory problem, likely caused by her repressing the memory out of shock, and those methods could not be used on her. Aoto had to enter her Binary Field, see that incident unfold in front of him in her memory, “play” through it again and change a few things to make the scenario play out differently, and only then could she manage to remember the rest of the song.
... Also, when it comes to her tech knowledge, it's mostly routed in knowledge of technology from her world only, specifically of the VR-21 and her Tower -- both of which may as well be super-super computers (hell, her Tower is run by Harvestasha XP and Harvestasha Vista, both of which are "mainframes/operating systems"). That's not to say she'd blank out if someone set a laptop in front of her, but her knowledge is so specified that it may as well be useless in a place like Luceti.
EMOTIONAL: Even though I listed it as a strength, Tyria's emotional distance could also easily be seen as a weakness. She can come off as disinterested in situations, or even as if she isn't taking them seriously -- even situations that involve herself or her own well-being. There are several times where party members thought (or in one case, even scolded) she wasn't taking the situation at hand seriously enough, prompting her to have to flat out say that she was, despite what they originally thought.
However, even with her detached attitude, she does have some weak spots, once she regains her memory. For example, she has no desire to talk about any friends she used to have before she became a Tower. Also, Kurogane is still someone she has large amounts of respect and love for, and she can get rather heated when the topic turns to him, if it's not about how much she cares for him. As with her friends, she doesn't seem to enjoy talking about him very much, either -- after all, he was someone who worked very closely with her and influenced her desire to become a Tower by a very large amount. He will likely always be a weak spot for her due to that.
