Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

FANDOM CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our fandom applications.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Re: Request and Q&A

Personality, Extended: Syre is a very analytical, opportunistic individual, constantly weighing the odds to see how a situation will benefit her; this may make her appear reluctant to act, or even cowardly. She very strongly dislikes taking any sort of unnecessary risk, and if she cannot accomplish a task without some larger consequence befalling her, she will abandon it. However, most of her retreats are temporary; on most occasions, she revisits the problem from a new perspective, after she's found a way to compensate for whatever the potential loss will be.

When it comes to dealing with people she doesn't know, Syre's interactions will vary based on how she views them. If they are timid, she will be gentle and calming; if they are outgoing, she acts confident and energetic. She does this in order to put herself into a position where she can better manipulate an individual, since, from her experience, she knows that most people will more eagerly follow the words of someone similar to themselves. When she is around people she commands or trusts, however, she hides herself a little less; while still very secretive when it comes to her work, she lets her usual cold, distanced attitude come through, instead of the manufactured 'mask' of emotion she wears for the general populace.

Though she spent a lot of time working by herself (or, perhaps, because she spent so much time by herself), deep within Syre is the desire to be accepted, to be loved – a desire to replace the family that she had lost so many years ago. The rest of her feels that she can never let these desires bother her because she is a woman of power, however, since worrying about small things like family and love will not doubt lower people's opinions of her – thus she tucks those needs away, into the corners of her mind.

1. Do you consider yourself to be special in any way? Explain.
I don't. I've managed to get quite a way in the Imperial Army, but... that's something anyone can do, given time and effort. [Though she is quite sure that most people would fall quite short in the 'effort' department.]

The only thing that I've done that could be even a little special would probably be my research papers for the Alchemist's Guild on the subject of the body's healing processes and ways to replicate it, [a lot of that research was saved for her own perusal, rather than the nation as a whole, however] but, again, someone else would have come across such knowledge eventually. [She very much doubts that would happen, however.]

2. What is your biggest flaw?
What manner of question is this? That isn't something you just ask.

[There's a moment of quiet before she clears her throat.]

I suppose, if I've had to think about it... I get rather obsessive with my work sometimes. I've locked myself into my study before, just so that I could have enough peace and quiet to work on my latest paper. [...for thirty-six hours, on and off, with a canteen within reach in case she got thirsty, and enough parchment to fill a book – but they don't need to know that.] And there are times when I can be a bit... not “dense”, exactly, but... hm.

What I'm trying to say is, “I have a habit of tuning out things that don't really relate to me, so sometimes I need people to repeat parts of their speech.” I was trying to find a word that fit that. [Especially since outright saying “I could not care any less about things that don't interest me, and am only associating with them for what they know” would probably get herself on quite a few people's bad sides.]

3. Do you care about other people, or would you rather not deal with them?
[Part of her does. A small, quiet part. But these people don't need to know – they are strangers to her, and they could be foreign spies, and whatever sentiment she shows will lead others to portray her as weak and vulnerable–]

[She takes a breath, clearing her head, before she finally gets on to answering the question.]

Not particularly. I care for others in Ecliptia as much as any person in service to their homeland would care about their own – but, outside of that, I much prefer being alone. Things are easier to manage that way.

[She has much less to worry about that way.]

4. What is the most successful thing you’ve ever done?
A bit similar to the first question, really. It would have to be either my enrollment in the Imperial Army, or having my papers published via the guild. Outside of that, nothing else comes to mind.

5. Share your most beloved memory.

[Who are these people? And what makes them think that they can just ask her about things like this?!]

[Still, it's not wise to keep this person – her interviewer, her interrogator, whatever they may be – waiting. With a heavy sigh, she glances down at the floor, and at the tips of her red boots, as she replies in a considerably less-confident voice.]

I was 15 years old, visiting home on leave from the Academy. My parents had taken me to the market – to the small store where they bought their books, parchment, and ink. Mother was good friends with the shop-keeper, I remember.

[Her eyes close, the memory playing in her head as though it had happened yesterday.]

I was looking at a book on one of the tables. “The Origin of Sellesian Species”, first edition – written nearly 200 years ago by one of the founders of the Alchemist's Guild. While Mother and Father were gathering their usual supplies, I had taken a seat near the bookshelves and began to read.

I don't know how long I was sitting there for, but I remember looking up just as we were about to leave the store. As I was putting the book back, I remember Father speaking.

“Don't leave your book here. It'd be a shame if you lost it so soon after buying it.”

… “My” book. I hadn't even realized that they had gotten it for me. It was such an expensive tome – it was two-hundred-and-fifteen silver, if I remember right.

And it was mine.

… It was the last thing I ever received from them.

[She opens her eyes again, looking up with an angered expression, tears welling in her eyes. Her voice is back to its usual volume, irritation clear in her tone.]

I believe that is sufficient enough.
