Applications

PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!

Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.

If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.

The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.

Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

Confused? HERE is a quick explanation of how to fill out our OC applications.

You may link to threads on the [community profile] trainingwings community for your first person samples, as long as the thread in question is no older than three months. The thread or post must still have at least ten lines of dialog from your character to be considered.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.

If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the [community profile] luceti profile page.

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!

A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.

Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Personality: When you first meet Noel the first thing you might notice about him is his confident demeanor. He holds himself well and he knows that he's good at what he does. Once he starts something he never gives up. The easiest way to explain this characteristic of his personality is by his adventures with Serah. He took up his journey in order to return Serah to her sister and to change his unfortunate future. Noel never stops to doubt himself and he always carries himself forward. Confidence is one of his key features. That doesn't mean he is arrogant by any means. Noel worked hard to be strong and he knows that he is rather strong for his age. Lightning entrusted him with the task of returning Serah to her and he agreed to uphold it with all his might. Noel isn't just talk. He acts based on his words and he'll do everything in his power to make it a reality.

Noel has some trouble conveying his feelings in words. That doesn't necessarily mean that words are his only means of expressing emotion. Even if Noel doesn't know how to explain his emotions, he doesn't always have to say it. When Noel met Snow for the first time he was visibly angry at Snow. Serah could notice that fact on her own. It isn't an exaggeration to say that Noel wears his heart on his sleeve. It's easy to tell if he's troubled by something. He's very expressive and honest to his own feelings. Honesty is one of Noel's stronger qualities. He's always honest to himself and he doesn't go out of his way to lie about things. Whenever he was questioned by NORA or Serah he would honestly speak the truth. He thinks that lying puts you in a worse position and you'll only get in trouble that way.

The fact that Noel realizes that there are consequences to your actions makes him mature. Another instance of Noel being mature was when he saw the Giant Flan in the Sunleth Waterscape. He could tell it was too strong for him to fight head on, so he used strategics and ran away. Unlike Snow, Noel doesn't charge ahead into battle and he is very cautious about that sort of thing. It also helps that Noel is an experienced hunter and he isn't reckless. He’s perceptive about his surroundings and he can tell when things are out of place. In New Bodhum, Noel could spot abnormalities in Serah’s mirror which lead to the discovery of an artefact relics.

Seeing so many people makes Noel happy because he knew it was possible for him to make his dream into a reality. He demonstrates general interest in culture and city landscapes. Noel appreciates the hard work of others and mankind as a whole. When he reached Academia he was excited to see so many things built and people living there. He thinks that it’s okay to dream as long as someone else helps you hold up the ideal. As long as people want something to happen with all their heart he believes it’ll come true. Noel constantly reassures Serah with this during their travels.

Towards children, Noel is a bit more gentle than usual. He tries to be kind to Serah’s students. A child from her class stole something from her, but he didn’t immediately yell at him. Noel tries to be reasonable with others. He normally has good intentions in mind for everyone. If your name isn’t Snow Villiers he’ll try his best to be well mannered. The reason why Noel hates Snow so much is because Snow thinks he can protect everyone when in reality he’s only hurting himself and others around him. Noel dislikes that type of "hot headed" attitude because he thinks Snow is just fantasizing about heroism and he leaves people behind in the process of it. Noel hates Snow, but he also understands his motives and morals.

A person that's worth mentioning is Noel's grandmother. She was born on Gran Pulse and died at the age of 50. When he was growing up his grandmother spoiled him and he quickly grew attached to her. Whenever the subject of his grandmother is brought up he sounds grateful to have had her in his life. In all he regretted his actions and thought he could learn more from other people if he had paid more attention to them.

It isn't very easy for Noel to talk about his past. A certain points he's even reluctant to tell Serah about his experiences. For him his past is filled with pain and regret, but he doesn't think poorly of it. He doesn't consider his experiences a waste and he always looks forward to learning new things. Noel's a person who'll think about the positive and negative sides to things. He isn't narrow minded and doesn't see things in black and white. Serah explained her life style to Noel and he didn't think her experiences were all bad. There was time for her to grow as a family with NORA and she's had students to accompany her during her time there. He cherishes the people he meets and it shows when he sees the NORA gang and Serah hanging around together in New Bodhum. In short Noel's the kind of person who tries to make every moment count.

In all, Noel's speech pattern is very informal. He never uses anything complicated and he isn't stiff when he talks to people. He is a deep thinker and his thoughts take more precedence over his words. Up front, Noel presents himself as a straightforward person. He usually says what he means and he can be a little too blunt. Despite that aspect of him, he does realize that it could be hurtful to other people. Being too direct can be a bad thing. At times he can be easily misunderstood.

His relationships with Caius Ballad and Paddra Nsu-Yeul are vital for Noel's overall development as a character. Yeul was the seeress and Noel only wished for her happiness. In their village: Caius, Noel, and Yeul were the only ones left alive and because of this Yeul often got lonely. This is the reason why Noel wanted to see a world with more people in it. Noel's desire to see more people was so strong that a gate opened for him and allowed him to travel through the void beyond. He worries over people often and he does a lot for their sake. Serah notices this fact about him when she collapses from exhaustion in the Augusta Tower.

An interesting fact about Noel is that he has a disregard for rules and authority. When someone wants to succeed as the next Guardian they have to kill the previous one to prove their strength. He wanted to fight Caius, but not kill him. Noel even tells Caius that he wouldn't follow stiff rules if it would make people unhappy. He cares about the happiness of those around him. On Yeul's birthday he wanted to please her by giving her a large feast. Despite his age, he's very experienced and mature.

Strengths:

Physical:
When Noel was growing up he trained to be a guardian. That goes without saying Noel is pretty strong. He can handle a fight on his own and he actively enjoys battle. Fighting is something he does a lot of. He can take on various monsters such as dragons and unusual beasts of many sizes. His fighting style consists of him utilizing two swords. (One of them is long and the other one is shorter for so it could have a different purpose, such as stabbing.) Noel originally picked up the sword so he could fight Caius. Caius himself uses one heavy sword in battle. In order to defeat that Noel took it upon himself to use two. His fighting style is rather simplistic, but effective. He prefers to fight people head on and there are no tricks to his style. Noel has the strongest attack status of the whole party. Noel's sufficient in casting powerful magic. His role as ravager allows him to use basic elements such as fire, water, thunder and ice in battle. Unlike the others who had to become L'cie for that power, casting magic comes more naturally for him.

Mental: After coming through the Historia Crux, time travel became one of his areas of expertise. Worlds being pulled together and overlapping aren’t unusual for him to say the least. Noel’s interested in things that don’t belong in certain places because to him those are considered paradoxes. For the most part Noel is curious about the world around him. He often questions why things are placed in certain areas and he pays attention to little details trying to theorize around them. Sometimes he’ll assume that another force is at work or things just happen because they do. His theories have strong basis to them and he doesn’t say them without reason. Noel often theorized with Hope and Alyssa about abnormalities and discrepancies in surrounding areas. When he went to visit the Bresha Ruins he thought about a lot of "what if" scenarios.

Emotional: He does have a few leadership qualities. In New Bodhum a meteorite attacked the village and Noel was quick to sense danger. He could prioritize the situation accordingly and advised Serah to talk to him later. On top of that he took Lebreau into a safe and secure location without anyone prompting him to do so. In a scenario of crisis, Noel can hold himself calmly and he doesn't lose his sense of judgement. His experience as a hunter affected that part of his personality.

Weaknesses:

Physical: Noel is a human. He can die if he's wounded badly and there are other people in his canon that are stronger than him. While comparing him to Lightning, Noel is clearly the weaker one. By Final Fantasy XIII-2 Lightning is capable of fighting off armies and that isn't something Noel is capable of doing on his own. He doesn't have an infinite supply of stamina and he can get tired during battle.

Mental: When Noel entered the time gate to reach Valhalla, he lost some of his memories. One of the things he can't remember is how Yeul died. His displaced memories confuse him and sometimes it'll stop him from accomplishing what's important. It's also important to note that he's very ignorant of how technology works. In the Augusta Tower he couldn't operate the console and had Serah do it for him. Then he outright tells her that machinery is was too fancy for his tastes and he has no idea what's going on inside of them. This will make it difficult for him to deal with those kinds of situations. Noel is a more practical and simple person. In his world there wasn’t much time for fun recreational activities, so he isn't knowledgeable in that subject. Serah compares Mog to something you’d find in an amusement park. Noel responds by saying he doesn’t know what an amusement park is because of his living circumstances. In that regard he’s much like Fang and Vanille because the three of them were born on Gran Pulse without much time for self-enjoyment.

Emotional: Something you should know about Noel is that he came from place where hunting was a norm and people were scarce in numbers. Noel was the last person born. When he was growing up he watched everyone around him die due to various causes. It isn't very surprising to say that Noel's still emotionally wounded from all of his losses. By the time he reaches the Sunleth Waterscape with Serah he tells her that he couldn't love someone and be apart from them for so long. It's evident that he has a hard time dealing with the fact people can leave from your life at any moment. Coming from a world lack of people makes it harder for him to talk to people as well. People normally don't trust Noel at first. For most people, it's unbelievable to think that in another world humans died off one by one. He understands that much and he isn't oblivious to it. In fact Noel will try to make the situation better by explaining things slowly and carefully. An example of this was when Gadot thought Noel was in New Bodhum to cause trouble for NORA and Serah.

First Person:Q & A please!

Third Person
: In the distance Noel could see a large forest. Trees of many sizes stood before him. A vast forest expanded further than he could see. He tapped his fingers together for a moment and then shifted into a position where he could fold his arms together. Where exactly did he end up? Noel gave himself some time to think. He wasn't in any rush. He had all the time he needed. That was something he was sure of. With access to the Historia Crux, he didn't need to worry about time. He had a means of going back and forth through the timeline. Or so he thought.

"Is this the Archylte Steppe from another time? Hm....I think someone is trying to mess around here."

The grassy areas remind him of it, but he didn't remember there being so many trees. How much time has passed by? He couldn't remember exactly what happen and his face slipped into an expression that said he was irritated. One thing Noel was positive about was that he sure he had used the artefact to get to Academia 400 AF. Maybe he miscalculated somewhere. Oh well. There isn't any need for him to rush. Just because he couldn't get to Valhalla right away didn't mean that this journey wouldn't be interesting. Noel can learn something here. There was also a possibility that Lightning may be watching from Valhalla. After all she was the one who told him that she could see everything from there. It was only a matter of time before he could reach his goal.

A world with people in it.

Noel was hopeful for the future and he thought he could change things here and now. There were many things that were unclear to him from his subjectivity, but that didn't stop him from going forward. It was worrisome how Serah wasn't anywhere near him at the moment. Due to a long series of events she eventually became his travel companion. The two of them both wanted to change the future into something better.

"Standing around won't solve anything."

answers!

[personal profile] prayers 2012-05-15 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
1. What's one thing you hope to achieve in the future?

To return Serah to her sister, Lightning. That was the task she gave to me and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure she gets there safely.

2. If you were to become some other creature (ANY kind: monster, supernatural, or even just a house pet!) what would you pick?

Really?

[Was this question serious? Either way he'll give it a moment of consideration.]

If you were to ask me that, well.  I wouldn't mind being a cat. When they're taken care of by someone they can become members of the family too.

3. Is there anything about yourself that you could never share with anyone, no matter how important they are to you?

There is. [A low frustrated sigh. Noel worried if that may have came off as rude. That wasn't his intention by any means. In contrast to how blunt he was earlier, the next part's more soft spoken to make up for his blunder.] It's mostly personal things.  [A pause.] Personal things not everyone needs to know.

[There was a reason for his frustration. It's difficult for him to bring the topic of his past out in the open. He couldn't protect Yeul. Not on his own. The moment Caius decided to leave them it was over.
No matter how important this person was to him, talking about it was never easy. ]

4. Are you a team player?

Sometimes I help other people. Sometimes other people help me. There's no way I could have gotten here on my own. The answer would be yeah. I am.

5. What is the first thing of your life that you remember? Alternatively, what is the memory you hold most dear or important?

While I was growing up, my grandmother taught me everything I needed to know about the world. There was a lot for me to learn. About Gran Pulse and it's history.

That's about as far back as I can remember.
