PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!
Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!
PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!

Name: Dimitri Allen
Fandom: Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Gender: Male
Age: Forty
Time Period: After the events of the game.
Wing Color: Slate grey
History: Layton wiki page.
Personality: First and foremost Dimitri is a scientist. He puts a lot of hard work into his research, formulating theories and testing them again and again until he manages to succeed. His main project, of course, is the creation of a time machine. Ten years prior to the events of the game this leads to disaster (the woman he loves, Claire, is seemingly killed in an explosion when pressured to test the prototype of said time machine) and it is after this that his character begins to undergo massive transformations. While he is still a very factual and determined man, he strays from pure science in favor of doing all that he can in order to bring back Claire. Instead of continuing his experiments and research on his own, Dimitri begins to adopt other personas in order to facilitate this goal. Most notably he begins to impersonate Professor Hershel Layton, taking on this guise and rising to power as a criminal overlord. In this way he's able to attain money for resources and also kidnaps many other scientists and engineers to force them to work on a new time machine that will allow him to go back and prevent the accident. Everything he does is for Claire. To this end he abandons both his morality and his career.
It is made clear that he does not personally work on this new machine when it is revealed that Clive, his partner in crime, has instead been having the scientists build a massive mechanized fortress. Dimitri is appalled to learn of this, realizing he has been tricked and abandoning his previous grudges against the real Layton. When he realizes furthermore that his original time machine ten years ago had been successful, and Claire had just been sent forward to what was now the present, he is able to speak with her and attain some closure before the instability of her existence in that time causes her to vanish. Only then is he wiling to let his goal rest, realizing it was never something that Claire wanted.
On the whole Dimitri is a well-educated, suave gentleman, remaining calm and cool whether he's acting villainous or not. He makes plans long in advance is only seen to be challenged intellectually by the likes of Professor Layton and Clive. He is also very patient, playing the part of the false Layton for years all for the sake of one plan. Adding to this patience is how unflappable he is. Even when -- after seemingly trapping Layton -- Layton manages to escape and outsmart him, he remains calm, going so far as appearing to admire the other's methods and cunning.
The way he thinks is very logical: he identifies something that he wants to do or sees as necessary and then develops a plan to see it through. When Layton tries to convince him that what he is doing is wrong he shoots down the other's ideas, refusing to listen and sticking to what he believes.
His way of speaking often lends itself to a flourish of the dramatic and his vocabulary is as impressive as would be expected of a man of his stature and education.

Emotionally, as said before, he remains quite calm under intense stress and is also extremely loyal to the people he cares about (read: Claire).
Weaknesses: On the other hand, maybe he cares TOO much about Claire. After all, this devotion caused him to turn a completely blind eye to everyone and everything else, even common sense in some cases (because some of what I've said already should probably sound a little mad-scientist-y to a sane person). Also, the fact that Dimitri spends years fooling other people but never realizes that Clive has been fooling him all along suggests a little naivety on his part.
Mentally, same with the naivety mentioned before. It is possible to outsmart him. His brain is that of a scientist, not a schemer, so while he's booksmart it doesn't necessarily mean he's totally streetsmart. Physically, once again, he has no special strengths of any kind and that could get him into trouble if he picks fights with the wrong people.

First Person: I wasn't sure what to make of this place at first and I still can't say I've arrived at any one particular conclusion. Such a variety of people in the same predicament as myself! Though that is something I count amongst the upsides. There are so many things to study, so many to observe… and yet the methods with which to gather data here are cruder than expected. It seems clear that we ourselves are part of some experiment, what with… ahh, these recent biological additions. These journals, as well, are quite advanced. They hint at technologies previously unknown in my world, though hardly out of the grasp of a determined mind. To be able to communicate with others here, however, and compile any data they've also gleaned is more than I could ask for. We must always keep our eyes and minds open. Inactivity, after all, benefits no one.
Third Person: It was cold. That was his first thought, above all others. In moments he realized that this was less attributable to the temperature of the air around him and more to his state of dress… or undress, more accurately. His hat, scarf, jacket, and shirt were all missing, along with his shoes. Even the pants clothing him now were unfamiliar.
Dimitri's hand fumbled blindly for a moment or two, gaining purchase against a worn stump as he pushed himself up into a sitting position. There was little to occupy his vision when compared with the busy streets of London to which he was so accustomed. Leaves scattered on the ground around him, trees located sparsely here and there whilst clustered much more densely in the distance. Also something that appeared to be a building below, largely obscured thanks to the unevenness of the terrain. It was there that he'd have to start searching for a few answers; for Dimitri there seemed to be no benefit to panicking, and so he simply forced himself not to. The quickening of his heart rate, now that he couldn't control, but waking up somewhere so completely unfamiliar was suitably nerve-wracking and thus deserving of such.
Only once Dimitri had actually stood did he become aware of two very important things. One was the itch and discomfort in his back. The second was the very slight pain in the smallest toe of his left foot, caused by brushing against that had been resting beside him. He bent down to retrieve it, firstly, examining the small object and drawing few deductions initially.
Next… were those wings. Because that's certainly what they were, right? It was difficult for him to see them so he instead took advantage of inspecting his shadow, able to make out the shape quite easily this way.
All he could hope for were answers in that house below.
