Applications
PLEASE USE THE NEW APPLICATION POST!
Please be aware that apps are only open from the 1st (12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time) to the 7th (11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time) of any given month. This means that as of 12:01 AM, the 1st, apps are open and that as of 11:59 PM the 7th, they are closed. If you post an application after that time, it will be deleted and ignored. Please pay attention to the application times and the status at the top of this page!
PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE APPLYING! Especially the last few, as they establish what characters can or cannot be accepted.
If you want to canon-update your character, you must re-apply for said character with the relevant changes (history, personality, strengths and weaknesses, etc). For re-apps and canon updates, samples must be rewritten; we do not accept recycled samples.
The old application posts can be found on Livejournal, using the Applications tag.
Here's the application. Copy and paste the text box info into a comment and fill it out. You must apply with the following format, otherwise your application will not be accepted.

HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!
History, Part 1
A Sellesian year is 440 days, split into 8 months of 55 days apiece. Each month is split into 5 and a half weeks, each of which is 10 days (with the exception of the last/first week of a month, depending). A Sellesian day is 36 Earth hours long.
To sum it up: a Sellesian year is a little less than two Earth years long, so things like birthdays/anniversaries/holidays are more spaced out in Sellesian time.
The planet is home to twelve different nations, each having its own distinct cultures. Syre's home nation, Ecliptia, is very conservative in terms of their beliefs, and the ruling powers prefer to keep immigration and outside trading to a minimum. As such, many Ecliptians are wary of, and sometimes hostile towards, anything that comes from outside the country.
Syre, unfortunately, is one of the hostile ones, though it isn't entirely her fault... ]
Syre was born on the 15th day of the 7th month in the year 1210 AU, in the small border village of Aleisan, to a family of dedicated alchemists, consisting of her mother, Alena, her father, Segmand, and her two brothers, Derrin and Matthas.
As a child, she would watch her parents work, and listen as they discussed ways to apply their research for the greater good; as soon as she learned how to write, she would bring charcoal and parchment along, scribbling down things as they caught her attention. When they were out of the house, she would bring her “notes” to her brothers, who would then explain to her (as best they could) what it was their parents did: as alchemists, they would perform various experiments, and report their findings to the local branch of the Alchemist's Guild, which then sent the gathered information to the Imperial Alchemical Academy, located in the capital city of Kyrae.
Though she didn't quite get the point, Syre was quick to run back to her mother and state that she wanted to 'help with the important stuff'. Alena and Segmand slowly introduced the young Syre to their work, often simplifying things so that she could chime in – as well as a little girl could, in any case. Though she would often miss the point of her parents' more lengthy explanations, it was clear to them that Syre was clearly interested in alchemy; as a result, Alena brought Syre to Kyrae on one of her trips, and enrolled her into the Academy as a present for her 13th birthday.
Being away from home was something strange; Syre was unsure of how to act at first, and she felt horribly alone. In order to keep her mind off of her homesickness, she poured all of her attention into her studies, and quickly made herself known among her peers; students that were sessions ahead of her would ask for tutoring, and she would take it upon herself to ensure that the younger students were properly learning their material.
That didn't mean that she ignored her family, of course; she would send them all letters throughout the year, detailing all of the work she had done and keeping them posted on her grades. Occasionally, they would visit her at the Academy, bringing her favorite books for her to read, or a few sweets to enjoy -- little tastes of home that managed to ease her heartache.
In her second and third years of her academic career, she began to teach the first-year classes alongside her professors, supplementing the material with information she reviewed in her free time. With a somewhat more lenient schedule (due to her “independent work”), she would return home in the breaks between sessions.
