Age: Unknown, she is at least 200 years old as she was shown to be active in the 1800s. Physically she resembles someone in their early teen.

History:
Several hundred years before the beginning of the series, Mina's mother was killed during a war between the various warring vampire clans. As a result of this conflict, Mina was forced to become queen of the vampires and take on the responsibility of continuing the vampire race by someday conceiving an heir. To make sure of this fact, the heads of the three clans that emerged victorious in the prior war, Ivanovic, Rozenmen, and Lei, required Mina be exposed to a so-called "purity test" to make sure she remained a virgin and her ability to bear a child sometime in the future, as pure blooded vampires such as Mina can only give birth once in their lifetime.
Years of being alone as queen eventually takes it's toll on Mina, who slowly becomes increasingly depressed and begins to think she has nothing to live for. This changes when she meets the son of her servant Beowulf's son, and her future knight, Akira just after the child's birth. Seeing the innocent child grow-up gives Mina some hope for the future. The pair reunite on the day of Mina's purity test some years later, when after the test Akira finds the vampire princess crying in a field of flowers. Thinking that she had been hurt in someway, Akira promises to protect Mina from then on.
We next see princess Mina in the present day, as she works to open her Vampire Bund, a place for vampires to live in peace without fear of persecution. At the same time, Akira's 17th birthday finally arrives, as this was the day his father promised that the young boy would become Mina's servant. With Akira in tow, Mina attempts to expose her bund, and the existence of vampires in general to the outside world. In doing so she exposes herself to a mountain of naysayers, which prompts Mina to hold a press conference to answer such claims. At this event a reporter, who had been turned into a vampire upon coming to the bund, attempts to detonate a bomb hidden within her chest to kill the princess. Akira Mina's adviser Vera manage to find this out in time and destroy the offending vampire while Akira disposes of the bomb in a shaft that leads deep within the bund's core. For his actions Akira is given the title of knight officelly.
With the truth about vampires out in the open, Mina attempts to craft a normal life of-sorts for herself and enrolls at the same high school as Akira.
This leads to problems, as the student council president hates the vampires presence within the school. However, as it stands, Mina had founded the school years before to eventually serve as a place that young vampires and humans could mingle. This leads a rouge group of vampires to kidnap the president without consulting Mina first. Though Mina seems to think the problem has solved itself, she goes about about with other concerns, such as getting the bill passed that would make the Bund an independent state. As the current prime minister was against the bill and refused to change his stance, Mina resorts to dirty tactics and kidnaps the prime minister's grandson and has one of her maids bite him. Using the child as a part of a trade, Mina gets the prime minister to pull his block of the bill in question in exchange for the safe return of his son.
This issues splits Akira and Mina's relationship in two as the young man begins to question if he can trust his princess. This leads Akira to rally his fellow students against the vampires that had invaded the school by walling themselves up in the campus' chapel until the next day when they would call an outdoors assembly to determine who was a vampire or not. During the night, a group of vampires ,led by the recently turned student council president, attack the chapel while Akira was away looking for weapons.
Mina catches wind of this plan and goes personally to end things. After arguing with the vampire in charge, the son of one of her advisers, Mina sparks a fight with him and in the end kills the rouge vampire. After the fight, Mina laments the fact that no one understands her, as seen by those claiming their scheming in her name, and attacks Akira, who had recently returned with weapons in hand. The pair fight in their true forms, Akira being a werewolf and Mina taking her adult form. Eventually, the conflict breaks apart a large portion of the chapel's roof, which would have crushed Mina if Akira had not defended her small frame with his own body. Seeing that Akira truly loved and care for her, Mina embraces him and realizes the truth of their relationship.
After a few weeks of peace, and Mina bonding with Akira's friend Yuki, her life is once more thrown into conflict as a vampire named Hysterica attacks one night. Being the one in charge of the group that had previously attacked the chapel and turned the president into a vampire, Hysterica claims to be working for a much larger group bent on bringing down everything Mina had worked so hard for. Her plan goes as follows: by using a group of vampires as bomb-carriers, she would blow up a series of buildings in order to break any trust Mina had curried with the public of Japan. After much planning, Mina attempts to stop this plot by luring Hysterica into a place where she could not signal her bombs to explode. After a prolonged fight, Mina manages to beat back her enemy until she brings the president into a perilous situation, which stalls Mina greatly. Mina answers this challenge by changing into her winged form and saving the girl which allows her foe a moment to regain her balance. Hysterica, knowing that Mina's adult form was of great interest to her masters, attempts to call those in charge to spread the news. This moment of distraction allows Mina to signal the president, whom she had regained control of by overwriting her master via a injection of her own DNA, to impale Hysterica with a sharp object. After the fight, Mina allows the president to work in her residence as a maid, as the young girl has no where else to go.
Awhile later, Mina is given the news that the heads of the three major vampire clans would soon be at her door for another purity test. However, this simple visit soon turns into much more, as the three clan heads had struck a wager in which each of them would sic an assassin on Akira and the man whose champion was alive at the end of the conflict would finally take Mina as his bride. Akira first finds this out when a shapeshifting vampire, who was acting on behalf of Ivanovic, takes Mina's form and try to pry information regarding the princess' true form. The pair fight back and forth for awhile before an exhausted Akira kills the vampire for imitating Mina's form. The fight then goes back and forth between Akira, a pair of twin vampires, an a man dressed in a sentai-styled set of power armor. During the conflict Akira is aided by a police officer named Seji Hama and the Fangless of the lower Bund, who direct him to the lowest level of the Bund in order to give him more ground to fight on and regain his strength.
Back in her throne room, Mina sees that Akira has a chance of winning the contest and throws her own bet into the mix. In short, she states that if Akira wins the contest, the three clan heads must leave her alone until such time she decides to marry. Meanwhile, back in the recesses of the Bund, Akira finds himself in an strange place painted to look like Mina's home in Romania. A man calling himself AB, who is seemingly the writer Ambrose Bierce, tells Akira that this place was built to be the princess' personal sanctuary. In a bit, the twin assassins catch up with Akira and force him into a fight once more. Realizing how their attacks work, each twin can swap places with the other instantly, Akira finally defeats the pair. The power armor wearing combatant them reveals himself to be Seji Hama, who had helped Akira earlier. However, rather the fight Akira, who was on the verge of death due to an arm injury, Seji surrenders on the basis that Akira had already won as he was fighting for the girl he loved.
When news of this reaches Mina and the others, the three clan heads attempt to attack Mina, who fights back by invoking a weapon that would flood the room with sunlight and kill everyone within. Rather then risking their own death, the clan heads back down and leave for the time being. Afterwords, Mina reunites with her beloved Akira and renew their promise from years ago to always be together.
Following the contest's end, and Mina regaining control over whom she will choose to marry in the future, the integration of the vampires into human society continues as several of the young fangless join Mina and friends in school. With the world in relative safety, Mina returns to matters of running the bund and bonding with Akira, Yuki, and her other friends.
One night, while holding a slumber party at Yuki's apartment, Akira's old partner, Angel, makes an appearance as the newest member of Mina's personal guard, which at first sparks a rather intense fit of jealously in the princess when she learns that Angel and Akira had slept together during a training mission. This fit is quickly quelled when Mina learns that Angel is in fact male and that it is simply Beowulf, the group both Akira and Angel are part of, tradition to partner with another member of the earth clan as part of the ritual bonding rites every werewolf must take part in.
On her way home from the part, Mina begins to feel odd and eventually falls under the sway of something known as the “Sleep of Death”, a coma-like state in which a vampire falls unconscious for a period of time to recover energy. However, this is not a normal state of sleep as it is revealed that a small nanomachine had infected Mina's mind and was recording her thoughts while shutting down the rest of her body. Much fretting is made over the incident, as Mina nearly died, and it is revealed that the machines were made my Mina's own servants earlier and that someone stole and modified them to act in the manner that caused Mina's collapse. When Mina awakens, following images of her beloved Akira back to the world of the living, Yuki had been arrested for having been charged of infecting Mina in the first place. Mina, knowing her friend would never do such a thing, clears Yuki of all charges made against her.
Following the “sleep of death” incident, Mina orders a Bund-wide blood test in order to find if any of her citizens had been infected by the so called “Pied Piper”, as the nano-machines had come to be known. During one of these tests Akira and Angel are attacked by an incredibly strong man wearing a ragged cloak and little else. Following the fight, Mina requests Akira tell her everything he knows of the killer's identity, a subject the young werewolf had been quiet about thus far. As Akira refuses to give out such information, the conversation breaks down, with Mina finally yelling “What do I mean to you?!” at her beloved. Akira responds that she is his queen, which leads Mina to request he give up the information on these grounds. Akira nearly speaks up on the subject, but not before Mina's emotions get the best of her and she storms out of the room in a fit of anger and depression.
Meanwhile, Angel had set out to lure the would-be killer into the open and confirm his identity for himself. Angel is badly hurt in the attack but is able to confirm the stalker's identity and allow Mina to bring him in for questioning. As it turns out, the rouge werewolf was in fact a boy named Sanin that had been on the same training mission as Angel and Akira were two years ago. Angel then gives Mina the whole story of what happened on that mission, Sanin had gotten into a fight with the other boy on the mission, whose name was Graham, which forced Akira to kill Graham and left Sanin missing since. The Bund's doctor then confirms that Sanin's aggression was caused by mixture of one of Graham's fangs being driven directly into his brain in the fight and the fact that someone had injected him with a type of medication that forced the user into a powerful rage.
Shortly afterwords, a “Pied Piper” infected vampire disables the Bund's security system, allowing for Sanin to escape. Unable to do anything else for his poor friend, Akira is forced into a fight with Sanin that ends when Akira forces his old friend into his human form and then kills him out of mercy. Afterwords, Akira and Mina visit Sanin's grave where Mina asks Akira that if she was ever to become in a condition like Sanin's that she'd like her beloved to kill her. Akira, says he would never do such a thing, as he would hate to loose another person close to him. He then goes on to explain that the reason that he never told Mina about the incident with Graham was that he was sure that she would think he was a monster and not the innocent boy she knew from years ago. In the end, both Mina and Akira break down crying and apologize to each other for the things they said.

Personality: Being the Queen of all Vampires, Mina is quite regal in most public regards. As queen she seems to other to be a supremely confident young girl who is always on top of things and will do anything to keep her subjects under control. These facts have made Mina appear as a somewhat a dark figure to those who do not know her personally. This is largely because the public rarely sees Mina's true self and know her only as immensely confident girl who can make speeches and leads press conferences in front of large groups of people without so much much as breaking a sweat. Outwardly, this facet of Mina's being can also make the young princess come across as a bit cold and calculating to an almost sinister degree.
This is best exemplified by Mina's tendency to do what is best for her kingdom and public with little regard to the morals behind any given action. The best example of this can be seen in an incident in which she directed one of her servants to kidnap the grandson of the Prime Minister of Japan and use him as a bargaining tool in getting the Japanese Diet to pass the bill that would allow her kingdom autonomy from the Japanese government. Though she eventually cured the boy before he became a vampire and returned him home safe and sound. Mina carried out such an act without a second thought, revealing the lengths she will go through in order to attain her goals.
As a queen, Mina possess an array of servants and guardians. From her various advisers to the Earth Clan, an elite group of knights consisting entirely of werewolves, Mina's retinue is rather large. However, she treats each group of servants differently, and tends to be rather cold and political with most of them. However, those closest to her, including her lover Akira and adviser Vera, who had served Mina's mother in the past, Mina considers to be her friends and treats them with warmth and kindness. Keeping such a large group of underlings has a dark side as well as some noble vampires that live under Mina’s rule often use their status as justification to do things in the name of the queen. An example of this can be seen when a rouge group of Vampires attack a human school and do so in Mina's name. Mina's reaction to this incident was to find the leader of the attack and kill him, which serves an another example of the more extreme actions Mina is willing to put into play in the name of maintaining control of her kingdom and people.
In private, Mina’s personality is markedly different than that of her public persona. While still a confident and strong girl, Mina relies heavily on those around her to keep afloat. In particular her primary servant and lover interest Akira is probably the most important person in Mina’s life and she would do anything to be with and protect him if the need arose. This is due to the fact that Akira was the first person who connected with Mina as a person rather then as a queen. Mina is fiercely protective to those she holds dear, such as Akira, and will often become jealous if someone she loves greatly shows attention to another person. An example of this jealously can be seen early in the series when Mina snapped at Yuki, Akira's friend and former crush, for showing interest in Akira. This may be due to the fact that, besides her servants and the various aristocratic hangers-on that come with being a queen, Mina has few friends and once remarked that no one around her really understood her true self. These feelings were powerful enough that Mina doubted even Akira's trust and her and only ended after Akira fought Mina over the matter and used his own body as a shield to protect her.
Mina’s fierce devotion to her friends can also be seen in an instance where she went through extraordinary measures to rescue her school’s student body president whom had been turned into a vampire as a result of a group of vampire’s working in her name but without her consent. In trying to right the wrong Mina frees the girl from her cruel master and eventually offers her a position working under herself as a maid as the president had no where else to go. Mina also was eventually able to get over her jealously of Yuki and make friends with her on the basis of their mutual affection for Akira.
It is also worth noting that Mina has something of a complex when it comes to the gap between her physical age, which appears to be around 12-13, and her actual age, which is well over 700. This conflict often leaves her half way between worlds, despite having the obligations of a queen and head of state, she is unable to have a real, adult, relationship with Akira due to her size and body structure. We see this both upon her first meeting with Akira on his 17th birthday, in which she comments that it is unlikely he finds a girl of her appearance attractive, and later when she bemoans the fact that it is unlikely that she will ever be able to have any kind of sexual relations with her love.
Mina’s view of the noble vampires that serve her is actually quite low, she seems to believe most of them are constantly scheming against her, a fact she is correct in assuming, even while they have sworn to protect her. She places most of her trust in regards to her personal protection in a group known as the Earth Clan, which is a ancient blood line of Werewolves who have protected the Tepes family for centuries. While disfavoring the corrupt Vampire nobility, Mina’s main concern lies with the common vampire who is merely trying to make their way in the world. This was her entire reason for building her Kingdom, or Bund, outside of Tokyo. To give them a chance to live without fear of persecution or violence from the outside or even, in the case of the Fangless, a minority group which rejects drinking blood and have their fangs removed, from within the vampire community. She also hopes that one day humans and vampires will be able to set aside their differences and live in peace.
Strengths: Mina is often shown to be a popular ruler who cares deeply for her people and would do anything for their sake. The fact that she created the Vampire Bund in order to pave the way for safe relations between humans and vampires alone shows the breadth of what she will go through in the name of bettering vampire-kind. She also provides free housing, food, and other supplies to anyone living within the bund. That being said, she will also do rather devious things to remove threats that get in the way of her plans. This is best seen in the fact that she kidnapped the grandson of a politician who opposed the Bund's construction and used him as a bargaining tool to get what she wanted.
She also does her best to curb the more negative emotions involved in being a vampire, including drinking synthetic blood and avoiding the excess many vampires indulge in, in the name of providing a good example for her fellow vampires to emulate. She also cares deeply for those who are powerless and down trodden, as seen in her treatment of the fangless, a group of vampires who remove their fangs to live a more human life, for whom she built an entire section of the bund devoted to living space for them.
Power-wise Mina is much the same as any vampire in her world in that she is much stronger and faster then a normal human being and is capable of limited flight. As the Queen of All Vampires, all vampires in her world have an in-borne trait that causes them to carry out direct orders from the Tepes family without question. Because of her own ideals Mina only invokes this power in moments of extreme peril, such as when she ordered Yuzuru, a young vampire in her care, to kill his girlfriend, who was under mind control at the moment, in order to prevent her from causing the Bund's powersupply from going out of control.
Mina is also capable of transforming into an adult version of herself that possess greater physical prowess then her normal, child-like, form. This form is something of a secret to all but her most trusted friends and advisers.
Weaknesses: Mina has had over the course of the manga various issues trusting others. This came about because, for most of her centuries long life, she had been alone save for her various advisers and bodyguards. As a result she began to think that no one around her truly understood her plight as a ruler and woman, a thought that depressed her for quite sometime. Her lack of trust in others began to get slightly better as she met Akira, whom she loves and trusts more then anyone in the world, and began to make other friends. Though even she had issues with Akira as well, as their relationship was sometime fragile early in canon as they both sought to define just what they meant to one another.
When it comes to matters of national importance, Mina is something of a pragmatist. She has no issues sacrificing small numbers of people for the greater good. The above mentioned example concerning Yuzuru illustrates this point well, as does the fact that ordered vast numbers of her own followers who had been infected with a virus that caused them to go mad to be shot and the corpses burned in order to prevent the infection from spreading to the rest of the bund.
Mina also possess many of the weaknesses that go along with being a vampire. For example, she will burst into flames if exposed to direct natural sunlight and any direct damage, such as by a stake or other pointed object, to her heart will causes her to turn to ash as well.

First Person:
Before my entrance here causes a panic I would like to clarify a few things about my existence. First, and foremost, I am a vampire, the blood sucking creatures of the night some of you may know from mythology. For those not familiar with my kind, we are immortal creatures who drink the blood of human beings in order to survive. However, that does not mean I will be any kind of threat to the human population of this place. Rather, I have actually sworn off consuming the blood of humans directly. Such a base act has long been an obstacle between friendly relations between vampires and humans and to partake in it myself would be nothing more then a grand hypocrisy. I will instead partake in blood in any alternate ways that may present themselves, whether they be consuming the blood of animals or procuring an artificial source of sustenance. Now that this is all out of the way, I hope we all may get along in the near future.
Third Person:
Mina sighed gently as she the sun finally crossed the horizon and marked the end of yet another day in this strange place. Indeed, she had tested whether or not the sun here would turn her pale flesh to ash and, much to her plight, within minutes her body began to smolder, giving the tiny vampire cause to dash back inside before her life met a premature end in fire and flames. It seemed even in another world she could not escape the weaknesses that had held in her kind in check for so very long.
But more then that, it meant that she was bound to move about only in the darkest hours of night when most slept comfortably in their beds. It was a curse to be bound to the night as her kind was, but she would overcome as she always had and held resolute that she could not be the only person bound to the night in one way or another. If they existed, she would find them. She had learned when constructing her bund that those of similar interest eventually found one another or, failing that, eventually became sick of their own isolation and proclaimed to the world at large their desire to seek the company of those who shared their plight. One problem was solved , or at least a plan made to solve it, one last thing still lay heavy on her mind.
As the moon rose through the heavens, Mina's mind settled promptly oh the bitter juice that kept all of her kind alive. Even here she would need blood to survive and not finding it would mean certain death. She would never resort to drinking the blood of those around her, her morals would simply never allow it. Without the artificial blood supply that kept the Bund running, she may have to resort to preying upon animals until another alternative could be found. Such action was rather messy and primal, but it was far superior to breaking the bond with mankind she hard worked so hard to build and maintain for all these years. But that was enough idle thought for one night, Mina silently swore to herself as she dressed to leave her home. Her body ached for the taste of blood, and there was much to be done to sate that urge.

That is a simple question, what matters most to be is the safety and security of the Bund and those under my rule. I created the Bund so that they may live in peace without the constant fear that they may be persecuted by those who fear them or killed simply because they are different. It is my dream that by removing such stigma from the vampire populace that we may one day live on equal terms with human beings, that is why I work as hard as I do.
2. Is it better to have loved and lost, or to have never loved at all?
As I see it, love is like water, necessary for life in an turbulent world. For us vampires, who live an eternal life fraught with more violence and hedonism then most humans can even imagine, if we cannot find something to center our emotions we will be dragged under by the current of eternity and eventually succumb to our own endless desires. I firmly believe love is such a valuable element, even if one had lost a love the experience gives hope that such a feeling may be found again in the future. To have never experienced it at all... That would simply be a shame.
3. How do you think you perform in a crisis?
As Queen of the Vampires I know all to well how how hard it can be to make the right decisions when everything lay on the line. However, I would like to think that I have remained calm and collected even under the most extreme of circumstance, such as when my Bund was invaded by a rather undesirable element. Though sacrifices had to be made, including those very dear to my heart, we were able to come through in the end with a minimal amount of casualties. So yes, I do believe I preform quite well in a crisis.
4. If you could be reborn as someone else, who would you be? Why?
If I were to be reincarnated as another, I do think I would like to be someone like my dear friend Yuki. To be a normal human girl, surrounded by friends and bound only by the pressures of high school, and free of the curse of vampirism that I carry forevermore, sounds like quite the pleasant existence. I also wish, just once, to spend an entire day under the sun. To feel its warmth against my skin without fear of turning to ash is a wish I will carry till the day in which I finally am rend from this world once and for all.
5. Describe your most beloved memory.
It was a sunny day years ago, I was crying alone in my family's garden after a particularly horrid event when a young boy happened upon me. He asked if my stomach hurt, ever blunt as he was, and offered me his hand. We spent the rest of that fateful day together, and though we had met more then a few times before that. It was that day when I finally knew that Akira was my destiny. So long as he was at my side, I could walk the dark path set before me without fear of succumbing to I. No matter how long I may live, that day will exist forever in my memory as the happiest I have ever been.
