Name: Dawn Fandom: Pokemon Gender: Female Age: Unstated, I go with 16. Time Period: After conquering the Battle Frontier. Wing Color: Light grey-blue. History: All hail Bulbapedia! Personality: Despite her behavior as Professor Rowan's assistant if Lucas is the player character, Dawn as the PC is a different character, shaped by different experiences and with different motivations guiding her along.
Dawn is, in many ways, the classic heroine figure; She's clever, determined, kind, friendly and courageous. When she meets someone she's earnest, treating them as a friend whether they think of her as one yet or not. When faced with even the most stubborn Pokemon Dawn is doggedly determined to prove herself to them and to any human that sees her; It's this sincerity that gradually wins her Pokemon over and makes them into a tight-knit team that would tackle anything put before them. There is little in the world she cherishes more than her friends and can put up with a lot from them (just look at what she deals with from Barry, constant fining and runnings into!), and would do almost anything to help them in any way she can. Like one would expect from someone that's so friendly, she's also very compassionate. Cruelty in any form is something Dawn can never abide by, and she treats both people and Pokemon with respect and kindness.
While many people would likely call her naive, that's not strictly true. Over the course of her adventure she's seen a lot of things that aren't exactly butterflies and sunshine, and found out things that wouldn't fail to make anyone a little sad. Rather than be skeptical because of these things, however, Dawn chooses to remain true to her nature and be optimistic. It's because of this mix of forgiving and bright-siding that she feels people deserve a chance to prove they've changed for the better, no matter what they've done in the past; She was content to let the remnants of Team Galactic pick up the pieces and move on because Saturn said he wanted to remake the team into something better. Still, there's a very childish side of her she's never quite grown out of. She's enthusiastic about anything she decides to do, often to the point where she doesn't think of, or care about, the reasons she shouldn't do it or why she could fail, and only becomes all the more determined to accomplish her goals as time passes; Very little can deter her from a course of action once she's on it or heading for it. Knowing the dangers or obstacles she'll face along the way just makes Dawn more determined to overcome and surpass them all. This isn't always a healthy trait to have, of course; Very few people would ever consider charging into the Distortion World after a shadowy monster through a world-warping rift a safe or sane course of action, but she did anyway. She might not admit it, but she enjoys the adrenaline rush of doing crazy, dangerous things.
It's important to note that Dawn wants to do the right thing in her own eyes, whether it means getting involved in rescuing a Pokemon or a little girl's father or backtracking to the nearest town to heal her Pokemon. It doesn't sit well with her to stand idly by while there's something she can do to help anyone or anything in need of help (whether they ask for help or not), and her own safety means little in these situations. Threats to her person? Haha! Recognition and reward means little in the face of knowing she did right, and being praised for it is admittedly a little embarrassing! She only did what anyone would have done, right? Several characters (such as Cyrus and Cynthia) have commented on her kind heart, and it's not a hard thing to notice. Helping out means as much to her as her own personal aims, and this heroine finds it just as rewarding in a different sort of way. It's also worthy of notice that Dawn isn't afraid to break the law to follow her moral code. Investigating Team Galactic, and thwarting them, required a few instances of breaking and entering, and she'd happily do it again if she felt it was necessary.
People that fight her probably aren't expecting what they get, either. Conquering the Pokemon League is a prestigious feat only accomplished by the best of the best, and there's a good reason Dawn was able to earn the title of Pokemon Champion; For all her sweet and kind disposition, Dawn is pretty dang good at strategics and can be a powerful opponent. She's never had a formal education (the only school in Sinnoh is in Jubilife, and she goes there for the first time when she starts her training journey), but she's learned what she can and has a surprising knowledge on some subjects and is always interested in learning more about virtually everything (it also helps that she's a quick learner). Dawn makes up for her lack of book learning with the ability to think fast on her feet, and taking care of herself on her journey has helped her mature and learn responsibility.
For all her natural good-person-ness, Dawn isn't infallible. If she doesn't realize something is wrong, she won't try and right it, and she won't always recognize a Bad Thing when she sees it; It took her a few meetings to finally see that something about Cyrus was off, and even then she didn't expect to see he was the leader of Team Galactic! While she isn't impatient to the same level as Barry, delays and waiting around make her eager to get going and she can get caught up in the excitement of very bad ideas to the point of going through with them. There's a decidedly vain side present in her; Her hairstyle certainly takes effort to get right and anyone who wears a miniskirt to go traveling the region probably isn't doing so for the most practical reasons. Not even experiencing the difficulties have gotten her to change her attire because she can be bullheadedly stubborn to a fault and won't always admit she's wrong or had a bad idea. Insulting or mocking her friends is a fast way to getting her angry, and she's not terribly good at hiding when she's mad.
All in all, Dawn is a teenage girl with a heroic streak that's miles wide. She loves adventure and getting to know people and Pokemon, and while her life hasn't been the simplest, safest, or even the most stable, she wouldn't have it any other way.
