Ewan | Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (part 2)

Character

Name: Ewan
Fandom: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Time Period: After the death of Queen Ismaire
Wing Color: Tan

History: Ewan's first memory is of his older sister smiling and telling him they'd be all right. The second child born to poor commoners in Jehanna's streets, he grew up clinging to her cloaks and watching her dance for strangers who tossed coins at her feet. Even when her soles hurt and bled and blistered, Tethys still smiled. They came to rely on each other for everything, even when Tethys joined with a group of mercenaries led by a man named Gerik.

When he grew older, Ewan was discovered by Saleh, a sage living in the Caer Pelyn mountain range. Saleh and his grandmother took Ewan in, and shortly afterwards Saleh noticed the boy's potential for magic. Though clumsy and overeager at first, Ewan proved to be an eager pupil and despite his propensity for trouble, Saleh continued to teach him everything he knew.

Some years later, Grado suddenly started a war. The monsters of the old legends began to pop up, and suddenly Ewan found himself involved in the whole mess when his mentor went off to rescue the young dragon girl he'd been guarding. Fortunately, he'd honed his skills by then and was able to assist Princess Eirika and the rest of the party.

Their travels eventually brought them to Jehanna, Ewan's old home. But alas, even the barest hint of a happy homecoming wasn't in the cards; Grado general Callaech not only destroyed the Sacred Stone, but killed the beautiful Queen Ismaire in cold blood and burned down the palace. With nowhere else to go, the army fled into the desert, where more Grado troops awaited them.

Personality: Cheerful and mischevious with a zest for life, Ewan wants to know and learn as much as he can about the world, especially magic. He's a bit of a trickster, fond of riddles and brain-teasers; his friend Ross is one of his favorite targets for these things, and his other friend and possible crush Amelia is the target of his more "naughty" jokes.

Despite being the younger sibling, he can be pretty protective of his sister, largely as a result of her being the only family he had for so long. Tethys is very popular with the men of the army, and he knows what they're after. Since he can't exactly stop them, he'll settle for pranking the men; a frog in the boots or a half-shaved moustache or too much pepper in their stew.

He's very reverent of his mentor, practically worships the ground Saleh walks on and holds him up as the golden standard for all practicioners of magic. Having never known his father, Saleh is the closest thing he's ever had even though Ewan has never technically seen him as such.

Tethys is also very important to him, despite his constant teasing and causing her trouble. One of his reasons for wanting to get better with his magic is so that he can protect her and look after her, like she always did for him when they were younger.

Strengths:: Ewan is bright and cheery with a real zest for life and an optimistic outlook. He prefers to look on the bright side of things and focus on the fun side of life. He tries to keep everyone laughing, or at least on their toes.

He's eager to learn and quite intelligent, with a strong talent for magic to boot and generally optimistic. His desire to do his very best keeps him trying no matter what; even if he fails or makes a mistake, he doesn't dwell on it for very long.

While still a novice mage, he's already a sure hand with a Thunder spell and is getting better. He's fast, he's sure-footed and his strikes never miss; even though he has a long way to go until he catches up to his teacher, he's strong and handy to have on your side in a fight.

Weaknesses: Ewan's curiosity and zest for life come with the unfortunate side effect of recklessness. He's known for leaping before he looks, seldom thinking about the consequences of his actions and just doing what he thinks is best or the most fun.

He favors "making things fun" a bit too much at times, often needing to be reminded to take things a little more seriously. His tricks are never malicious, but they're often pretty bothersome to those around him.

Physically, while he's capable of dealing damage, he's not the strongest when it comes to taking blows. He focuses too much on attacking rather than defensive capabilities, and this has put his life in danger more than once.

Samples

First Person: Hey, this isn't the desert...did Grado give up? That's not like them, though. What if it's a trap?! What if there's monsters coming, and-

Hey...where's everyone else? This doesn't look like Magvel at all! Where's my clothes? Hey, what's with my back? It feels weird, like-

-oh! Oh, neato! Wings! Hey, I wonder if I can fly now, like a human pegasus! Up up, and away! ...I said, up up, and away! ...huh. Maybe they need magic to work. I should look around and see if there's anyone I can ask about that!

Third Person: Ewan crumpled the letter and tossed it over his shoulder for what seemed like the millionth time that day. You can't send mail home from here, he remembered. He wished he could, though, there was so much he wanted to tell them! People from all kinds of different places, those weird creatures with their own magic powers (Pokemon, he remembered them being called), the buildings, the forest. Plus, everything in the shops was free! What could be better?

But even better than letters, he wished they could just be here. Amelia would love the Pokemon, he thought. Ross might get a kick out of them, too, or at least the battle dome. Tethys would find a big audience for her dances...and some of the technology here was astounding! If Uncle Dozla could see it all, he'd go wild with joy that...well, some of their ideas had become the real thing.

But then, he'd remember they were back on Magvel, fighting a war, and he'd worry. How did the people here know time actually stopped in his world while he was here? What if they were being attacked by more and more Grado soldiers at this very moment?

The only thing he could do was hope they were safe.
