Strengths: Physical : All Abhorsens have a sense of musicality and rhythm, it's essential to be able to use the bells. She is said to have learned to be all right with a bow and arrows by shooting rats in the library.
Mental: She is hightly intelligent, and a very gifted Charter Mage, something that is shown over and over in canon. For example the fact that she figures out how to unlock doors that she's not actually allowed to open in the library. She can enter Death and there she can use her ability as a Remembrancer to see into the past. Later on she also starts to learn about how to fight the dead with bells and magic as the Abhorsen-in-waiting.
Emotional: The delight she takes in discovering and learning things, and the strong love she feels for her companion the Dog. She really is a very loving and loyal person, if you just take the time to get to know her and make her come out of her shell.
Weaknesses: Physical: Lirael says herself when she is sent away from the Clayr that she's not very good with a sword,
Mental: She is sometimes blind to her own merits and can't think of herself as attractive or her own gifts as worth as much as that of the sight. She's used to thinking about herself as inadequate even if she does take some pride in her accomplishments. Same with
Emotional: Lirael is very starved for affection and has a strong wish to have somewhere to belong. She is somewhat prone to depression and thoughts of suicide, though this is something that tends to recede when she has a task to lose herself in. Her low self-esteem would probably hold her back a lot more if she didn't have the Dog to make her get over herself and move on to new adventures, so to speak. She's also very guarded, reluctant to let people get close at the same time as she desperately wants them to be.
