tenerezza: anime (Relieved)

Personality: A kind and gentle soul, Susanne wishes for nothing more than the safety of her family and peace for their kingdom. Although Duke Fabre kept Luke at a distance due to knowing he would die for Kimlasca's "prosperity", Susanne was likely kept in the dark about this considering her fragile health and allowed to grow closer to him. Luke confided to her that he had made a bet with Guy about becoming someone worthy of his servant's loyalty.

As a member of nobility, Susanne is not expected to perform many tasks or carry out duties outside of her home, and thus spends a great deal of time worrying about her son. It was at her insistence that Luke began to keep a diary in case he lost his memories again. She is probably also accustomed to solitude, seeing as how her husband is frequently away and she spends a good deal of time in bed, with only servants for company. It may be for this reason that Susanne readily welcomes Luke's friends despite them being a motley crew.

Perhaps due to wars and what happened with the Cecille family, Susanne hates seeing families forced to fight their loved ones. She also values kindness and understanding far above things like honor or lineage.

Susanne isn't entirely serious though; by the time Luke returns for a third allowance to buy back his textbooks, she proposes he clean the manor as a joke, hinting at hidden playfulness.

Strengths:

Susanne's greatest assets are her capacity for love and her forgiving nature. Even when her only son is whisked away, she readily accepts Tear's apology without judgement. This is reinforced when she keeps the maid's mistake a secret for Luke so long as he promises to have more trust in her. Later on Susanne reassures Luke that both she and her husband consider him a member of House Fabre and his being a replica does not change that.

She can be quite sharp, as she was able to tell Luke felt out of place after the manor learned he was a replica. She also caught on to the maid's mistake of selling Luke's school books when he starts offering to do favors such as massaging her shoulders or cooking a meal for her. Also, as half-sister to the king and wife of a duke, Susanne would be well-informed of political situations, possibly even offering her own input from time to time.

Susanne won't give up easily: she doesn't allow her illness to affect her outlook on life and she refuses the idea of building Luke and Asch a grave even after both disappear at Eldrant, believing they will return.

Weaknesses:

The details of Susanne's illness are never fully explained in any of her canon's various forms, though Luke noted to Tear that she was frail to begin with and thus prone to collapsing under duress. Her health is maintained in part through a medicine made of Rugnican death caps, a type of mushroom grown in St. Binah but only found wild in a secluded area appropriately named Mushroom Road. While not in immediate danger without it, the medicine helps Susanne's overall mental and physical well-being.

On the flip side of her caring nature, Susanne can be a bit too giving at times, offering Luke enormous sums of allowance for even the most trivial tasks. (30,000 and 200,000 gald for a massage?!) In this way she is perhaps a bit out of touch with how parenting should work and is in need of advice from Guy on what an acceptable amount would be.

While not materialistic as shown above, she is used to living a life of comfort with all the luxuries being royalty affords. It's easy to imagine she would struggle at first without her servants much like Luke did, though possibly to a greater extent.
