Yun // Suikoden III // Reserved

Strengths: Physically, Yun doesn’t have much in strengths beyond being a fit and healthy young girl. She’s average when it comes to strength or speed when compared to her highly athletic sisters. Her true strengths lie elsewhere.

Mentally, she is bright and alert and displays an immense understanding of life and death and various other deep topics. As a Grasslander of Alma Kinan, she already had a close connection to the spirits, but as a shaman, her communication with them is much more open and direct (not that it made them all that much clearer) and has taught her a lot about the way the world works, while her ability as a seer has tempered her to act wise far beyond her years; she has been relied on by her village to guide their path and has been the one who pushes people far older than herself into motion before. The ultimate example of all of this is when she, a twelve year old girl, is the one consoling a grown and war-hardened knight when it is Yun, not the knight, who is leaving to die, and explaining why what she does is for the greater good, even if it will make a few people sad. Also, I will note here that her abilities most likely fit into this part: her ability to communicate with spirits (as well as animals and plants to some extent, as noted by Kidd’s notes on her in-game) and her ability to see the past, future, and likely instances of the present.

Emotionally, Yun is pretty dang strong. She’s calm, steady, and patient, even under duress. She was able to accept the end of her life with her only regret being that she did not have at least one more day to be with someone, but nothing else. Then there’s a general lack of fear or anxiety that might riddle the average life; she grew up knowing exactly where her life was going and never had to worry about or fear any unexpected surprises. Admittedly, this made things somewhat dull, but what can you do?

Weaknesses: As mentioned before, Yun is average for a girl her age when it comes to feats of strength. As a shaman, learning to hunt and shoot an arrow and all of that wasn’t a big concern for her, so she never became as athletic as the other women of Alma Kinan. Besides, she’s twelve.

Mentally and emotionally, though, doesn’t have quite as many weaknesses; her mind is her strongest card to play and she’s fairly adept at controlling her emotions. There is a disconnect between how she lived and how normal people live, though. She may know a lot about spirits and fate and mystical whatever you may have, things like the overall functions of the world, but the details of day-to-day life of, say, a regular kid? It’s unlikely she’s ever done things like build a snowman or play a game of hide-and-seek. In addition to that, the greatest hurdle she has ahead of her would be living again rather than some failing from within her canon. She was never supposed to live on past a certain point, up to which she knew quite a lot about what was going to happen to her. An unforeseen extension would be the first real surprise she’s encountered and that’s a jarring introduction into the world of uncertainty.
