Re: Marceline | Adventure Time | Reserved

Strengths:

Physical: Marceline is stronger than an average human, being able to toss around Finn with ease, and she is also able to carry multiple people (and wolves in some cases) while flying. She has some experience with combat due to her love of getting into fights, but she does not know a wide range of hand-to-hand moves aside from some themed ones such as a "vampire kick" (which appears to be a normal flying kick, as performed by a vampire). Marceline otherwise has a variety of special powers which are primarily rooted in being a vampire. She is capable of freely floating in the air. Like most types of vampires, she can bite others, and she has exceptionally powerful jaws. However, Marceline's teeth only suck up the color red in general, so she does not need to suck blood and prefers not to. She can also turn invisible. Once, she also fired a pair of red beams from her hands that temporarily made Finn's arms twist around themselves, and she also once used a type of necromancy to revive all the skeletons in a graveyard. Marceline has exhibited some shape shifting powers and can change her body into various textures, one of the most commonly used being a furry wolf. Marceline has also been able to change size with her transformations, with one shape being a giant dark octopus-like creature with pulsating tentacles. While these forms do increase her strength to an extent, there are otherwise no powers gained by these forms, which are usually assumed to intimidate or scare others. One more commonly used form which reflects her vampiric heritage is that of a winged bat, and she is able to transform into this form at multiple sizes.

Mental: She's a pretty crafty vampire queen. She's great at lying and tricking others, and she is also good at hiding her own feelings and intentions most of the time. A thousand years of living have also made her generally knowledgeable about both the world she lives in and the Nightosphere it is connected to. Additionally, she is very used to things both weird and disturbing, so she can keep her cool in most bizarre situations.

Emotional: Marceline is capable of caring for her friends, it's just hard for her to show it. And she will angrily deny it when it is pointed out. One notable example is the events of "What Was Missing", where she helped Finn, Jake, Bubblegum and Beemo after a Door Lord stole valuable possessions from everyone. It wasn't until the end that it turned out nothing was stolen from Marceline, and when Finn pointed out that she only wanted to hang out with them, she denied it while trying to scare them off by making herself giant. Despite her forays into friendship, she is used to being independent for the most part for living a hundred years.

Weaknesses:

Physical: Marceline's primary weakness is direct sunlight, exposure to which will cause her body to begin burning up. This has happened in several episodes (most vividly in "Henchman"), and during these instances she is usually rendered powerless on the ground while boils form all over her body. These wounds will recover once she is out of the light. Marceline usually must don a large sunhat and/or an umbrella to properly protect her from the sun; she still will experience a tolerable amount of pain which she finds exhilarating. One other known weakness is that vampires are ineffective against ghosts, a weakness which Marceline has likened to a "rock-paper-scissors type thing". She also appears to have a weakness for traditional vampire-killing instruments such as garlic and a stake.

Mental: There are limits to her knowledge, especially since Marceline doesn't seem to have undergone any formal education. Some of the scientific jargon that Princess Bubblegum spews, even those related to music, can go over her head. Although she is a skilled bass player, she also doesn't seem to know many technical terms and was confused once by what a "quaver" is. She also doesn't think that clearly at times, when she is either really caught up in a prank or when she is really angry at someone. In one case, she spent an entire episode trolling Finn, and although it was done in her version of a friendly manner, Jake was concerned for his friend and ultimately tried performing a sneak staking on Marceline. She was only saved by her and Finn doing some quick thinking together to fool Jake.

Emotional: She has some insecurities associated with her friendships. In many cases, she will doubt whether her friends really care for her. Additionally, although Marceline is usually good at maintaining her pranks, they can sometimes get out of hand and endanger others. In those cases, Marceline will own up as much as she can. One prank ended with Marceline's old ghost friends trying to kill Finn and Jake. Although Marceline came to help them, she was only able to apologize due to being weak against ghosts. They were only saved by the ghosts wanting to watch Finn and Jake's Heat Signature movie. It also typically takes Marceline some time to fully trust strangers. Marceline can also become violent or generally difficult when her buttons are pushed - usually involving her father, her ex boyfriend or some of Princess Bubblegum's former attitude towards her (especially her occasional judgmental behavior). She has gotten better about keeping her temper in check. At the same time, she also likes to keep her problems private, covering them by acting casual and/or cruel. She is always reluctant to accept others' help and often feels like there is no one whom she can truly relate to.

First Person: (Please make this a total of ten complete sentences or longer; a complete sentence contains at least one subject, one object and one verb. This sentence count does not include action text, though you may include action as well. We count spoken dialogue only.)

[Marceline hooks up a bass guitar while facing the journal's camera. She smiles and talks as she strums the bass as a background for her words.]

Luceti, huh? I've been to places with dumber names. I've gotta say, this is a pretty weird place so far. I was walking throughout town all day, looking through every house with an open window, and I've never seen so many humans around before. Not a single candy person or anything! Too bad, I'm pretty hungry right now. For red stuff. Oh yeah, I'm a vampire. You can call me Marceline. The Vampire Queen. Don't worry, I don't bite. ...Unless I'm really bored.

[Her face turns demonic as she hits one last slow chord, hisses and kills the video feed.]

Third Person:

The first thing Marceline saw when she awoke was her own jet black hair, which was currently blanketing her face. She groaned at the prospect of waking up and dealing with another day, especially since she could tell from the irritating sound of chirping birds that it had to be pretty early in the morning. What kind of party was she at last night? She found herself drawing a blank, which meant it had to have been something really algebraic. That, or she must have eaten some bad tomatoes.

After this moment of bored contemplation, she slowly parted her hair from her eyes and sat up, seeing a canopy of leaves above her head. Looking down only clarified that she was resting on a tree branch. She found this odd, as it was more comfortable than most tree branches she that she had fallen asleep on. It didn't seem to be a tree she recognized, either - definitely not the home of those dorks. Marceline then looked down at herself and realized what she was wearing. This was the first sign that something was irregular; there wasn’t anything like this plain number in her extensive wardrobe.

Marceline stood up, which jostled the tree branch. She could hold her balance just fine, but she felt something else fall from the branch and hit the ground with a thud. Marceline peered down over the side of the branch and saw it was a book that had fallen. She lightly floated down to the ground and wrapped her hands around the book. Not her diary... "What have we here?" she asked herself with a diabolical flair. She sat herself down in the shade of the tree and eagerly began flipping her way through the book. The faces within all looked promising. “Losers, losers, everywhere. Who to mess with first?”
