HERE is a word-counting tool to check your 3rd person samples.
If a mod does not accept your app right away, please be patient. We all have our own personal and busy lives to attend to, and there might be a period of time when it might take us days to get to the applications. There is also the possibility that we do not know the canon you are applying for, and we need time to study it. So please be patient and we will work as fast as we can to get you an answer. If it has been a week with no word, please feel free to message Akai (guynophobic), Masamune (masamune3x), or Emily (spark memories) on AIM, or email them at their respective email addresses found in the

Note: Applications are not always processed in the order they are received, due to the way they are divvied up between the moderators. If your application has been skipped, do not fret. Another mod will be getting to it soon enough. Additionally, you now have ONE WEEK to complete revision requests and Q&A's. You will be reminded of this deadline three days before it's up. After that week has passed, your application will no longer be considered for the current round. We apologize, but please be patient with us!
A note for applying here on Dreamwidth: Due to the character count limit being higher on DW, it might be tempting to toss the whole thing in one comment and leave it. However, we ask that you split the application up into at least two comments- the first containing your player information and (if you want) basic character info, the rest in another comment (or more, if you wish). This is to avoid having entire applications spanning the page and making it huge.
Splitting them up will make it easier for mods to process the applications. Thank you!
Rudy Roughnight | Wild ARMs Alter Code: F | Reserved
The world of Filgaia, once thriving and filled with green, is one that is slowly dying as time goes by. A long time ago, a great war started up when Filgaia was suddenly invaded by demons from a distant planet. Humans, Elw, and the Guardians all banded together to fight against the demons, and eventually came out as victors as the war came to an end. There was no longer the threat of invasion; however, the war left great deal of damage to the planet in the aftermath.
Over the course of a thousand years, the Guardians' power waned and Filgaia gradually became a wasteland. Many relics from the war, such as ARMs (Ancient Relic Machines) and the Golems, are left scattered as a grim reminder of its past. In particular, during the war, one type of weapon displayed such frightening power that all models were destroyed immediately afterward, with the prototype being sealed away in an underwater facility to be forgotten by history.
Until one day Zepet Roughnight -- a wanderer as well as researcher -- happened across the facility, and discovered an artificial life-form within. The tiny life, with the physical appearance of a small child, displayed an unusual knack for handling ARMs, as well as incredible strength -- both much beyond a normal person's capabilities. But what baffled the researcher most of all was that it could feel physical as well as emotional pain. This realization stunned Zepet, which made him wonder: why would someone create a weapon with the capabilities of feeling emotion? Furthermore, if this weapon could feel pain... then couldn't it also learn compassion?
Zepet decided to take the child under his wing and teach it about the world outside. From then on it was no longer considered a weapon, but as Zepet's adopted grandson, Rudy Roughnight. Zepet taught Rudy many things: handling ARMs and how it relates to the heart; strength as well as what it means to have it; most important of all, kindness as well as the will to help others over oneself.
But as Rudy grew up, he began to realize he wasn't like the other children. As a child, he often had difficulty fitting in with children his age. He was considered an outcast -- his orphaned background as well as unusual strength frightened many and they avoided him as a result. It... well, needless to say it didn't do a whole lot good for him emotionally, as he grew reluctant to truly open up to others out of fear of rejection. Even though Rudy realized he was different, he never understood why, as he grew up unaware of the circumstances behind his origin. As a result Rudy would often look to Zepet during those times, finding comfort in the old man's kindly words. Essentially, it is through those experiences as well as Zepet's lessons that Rudy learned the meaning of hardship. And it is these traits that shaped him from a mere weapon into a human being with a heart, albeit artificial in creation.
The two kept drifting from place to place, until one day tragedy struck. Zepet had suffered wounds during their journey and later passed away. The sudden loss of Zepet deeply shook Rudy, as his grandfather was the only one he could truly open up to. It was then he was once again alone in the world.
Afterwards, Rudy buried Zepet and then continued wandering by himself. During that time, he would often take on odd jobs to make his living, and he soon ended up in Surf Village working as a ranch hand. While it is unknown exactly how long Rudy stayed in Surf, it's apparent most of the villagers took a liking to the young wanderer, despite the fact he was an outsider.
But one day, a child wanders into the abandoned Berry Cave in search of medicinal herbs for his ailing father. As there is a village ban on going into the cave, this concerns the mayor; however, in the end he decides to wait until the matter is discussed this with the village. The mayor, wanting this to be kept secret until then, warns Rudy not to rush in and "play hero"; Rudy ignores the warning and heads off on his own rescue the child, the reasoning being that he's not from the village and isn't bound by their law. That, and he isn't the type to sit by when he knows something is wrong.
After he saves the child and collects the herbs, a huge earthquake shakes through the area -- the effects felt from miles away. They soon reunite with the villagers, but are then suddenly attacked by a powerful monster lurking within the abandoned cave. Rudy defeats it with the help of his ARM... but his wielding of one scares the villagers even more than the monster itself. Originally ARMs were a power that belonged to the demons, and it is this reasoning that leads the villagers to blame Rudy for the entire disaster. For his efforts in saving the child and the village, Rudy is immediately banished from Surf Village. Which... also didn't do a whole lot good for his self-esteem.
Rudy makes his way to the kingdom of Adlehyde and soon ends up working for Emma Hetfield, during which he meets Jack Van Burace and Cecilia Adlehyde. After completing it, all three of them part ways. However, it's only a brief parting, as not too long after the trio are unexpectedly reunited when Adlehyde is suddenly attacked by demons.
With the death of their King and the royal heirloom -- the Teardrop -- surrendered; Adlehyde is left in ruins. Cecilia resolves to set out and recover the Teardrop. Naturally, Rudy and Jack agree to help and the three of them set out on a quest to... well, save Filgaia. And all that good stuff. During this journey, they meet all sorts of different characters of the good, bad, and the highly dubious variety.
Eventually the mother of all demons, aptly named Mother, is revived and is later defeated thanks to the main team's efforts (as well as those of Mother's very own backstabbing subordinates). Despite the loss of their leader, this does not put a stop to Zeikfried and the rest of the Quarter Knights' plans. And so, the trio's journey is not yet over and they continue to search for ways to put a stop to the demons' plans.
Way later on, the trio confront Zeikfried inside the Gate Generator, after which Zeikfried tries to take them down with him by causing a black hole right then and there. Rudy charges in and tries to chuck him into the black hole, but Zeik isn't too amused with Rudy's idea. So in a last ditch effort, he ensnares Rudy's arm with a cable and tries to drag Rudy in with him. As the cable is impossible to cut or shoot off, Rudy is left with little choice but to shoot his own arm off instead.
Rudy losing his arm was a big shock to everyone involved, but even more startling was finding something no one expected: Rudy is not human. It's revealed to the party that Rudy is a Holmcross: an artificial creation that is human in appearance, except is made of living metal not unlike the demons themselves. The Holmcross was meant to be a weapon, one that could perfectly synchronize with ARMs. However, instead of being the perfect weapon, the Holmcross turned out to be a vicious killing machine. It's because of that, the Elw are hesitant to help Jack and Cecilia when they visit the Elw Dimension to search for a way to help Rudy.
After some serious convincing from his sister, the Elw, Vassim, agrees to reconstruct a new arm for Rudy. After gathering the necessary materials, the surgery is a success. However, a week passed and Rudy refused to wake up, unable to truly come to terms with his origin. This sudden realization about himself caused him to retreat inwardly into his memories of Zepet, and along the way ended up attracting a Dream Demon leeching of said memories. Needless to say, that didn't help matters. It took Cecilia and a fight vs. said demon in the center of his unconsciousness to pull him out of it, but it's what allows him to finally accept that part of himself. Too bad he didn't remember exactly what Cecilia did for him, though.
So! All's well, everyone's happy, and there's a world to save. So Rudy heads back to Filgaia with Jack and Cecilia, and soon after finds that Emma wants build them a plane. Awesome, right? Except it needs a couple Gemini Circuits first before it's actually useful and doesn't crash and kill everything dead. Too bad Rudy wakes up in Luceti before that happens...
